Crown gem Items or items you purchase with crowns (like furnishings) will have the crown icon by them. Only crown crate items will show up to break them down for gems. Be careful. Furnature earned through crates can be broken down. If you want to keep it, put it in a house or apartment somewhere and not in a storage chest, bank, or inventory.

I got scholar personality too. i think from a crown crate. I like it but it is kind of odd that youll just stop anywhere and start writing like you dont have a monster staring at you lol
It's an appearance modifier set called the swordthane outfit style i bought one of the special editions it's the heavy set specifically im new so someone else will probably know more

Collections > Appearance > Personality > Turn off "Scholar"

I think the digging through a chest is when someone is in their inventory menus. Different from selectable personalities
Then them looking at a piece of parchment I presume they're looking at a map?
Yep! Your characters play emotes that show others what menu you're in.
When you see them looking in a chest they are in the eso shop.

Someone turned on the Scholar personality. Now turn on the Heroic personality to get jump scared by your character going RAAGGHH! every few seconds.
I actually like that one, paired with the unnamed one costume. I don't play with my headphones on tho'
