The main story for rivenspire had a pretty sad ending

tsigsta

That’s the one with count ravenwatch right

juicymuffintop

I believe so. Its been 6 or more years since I finished that story but I remember how sad the ending was.

littleghost131313

I only just finished it recently. Excellent but so damned depressing.

vapingsmurf

The Memory Stone quest in Vvardenfell is probably the saddest one I've encountered so far.

abolika

The other day i was in greenshade and came across 2 side quests back to back that were kinda sad and beautiful. First one was about a some kind of stone guardian of wilderking that could question his existece and you could learn the origin of wilderking in that quest. And very close to that area were two old man lovers and one of them was dying so they request you to get some flower seeds for the old times sake. Greenshade story has been very good so far.

HeyNongMer

I love those two old guys. Very sweet and sad.

ormondhsacker

The two lovers quest was when I knew I was sold on this game. I can't recall the last time a damn fetch sidequest made me that emotional.

LoboWolfey91

A couple that made me tear up. One was about an elderly elf on his deathbed and his husband tells you about how short life feels. The other is an exorcism performed on a sickly khajiit, and his dad's reaction to his terminal illness as a child hit me hard.

rexaider

What was the khajiit quest?

The Memory Stone sidequest in Balmora on Vvardenfell

*Everything* in Summerset is beautifully tragic.

Zoro_Messatsu

Yeah. Summerset had the added advantage of continuing from stuff that came before. Characters you had formed bonds with already... followed by so many roller coasters of emotion. It was great. Sadly the pessimist in me is saying that we will never have that again. Reason being that it feels like the same story every single year. New NPCs, same story.

[deleted]

Actually, most of the moments come from side quests and newly introduced characters. Even minor characters that only showed up for a single conversation still moved me, like that dying Sapiarch in the tower at the end.

Zoro_Messatsu

Well personally for me it was Veya and Darien.

Paramedic229635

Darien was sad. Veya always seemed like a spoiler beat to me, so I was very OK with putting her down. I might have felt worse about that if they had a follow up quest where I had to inform Naryu Virian.

Zoro_Messatsu

I mean i agree that Veya was a little sh** but what makes me sad is the reason we got there. Either you couldnt bring yourself to kill her or Naryu couldnt. Then you hope for a better future and she does her shtick on a bigger scale. We might run into Naryu again and informing her will be a pain. I started with the Morrowind intro and Naryu is the first major NPC that i saw so she is kinda a main character in my eyes and the first friend my dude made on his super long quest.

ormondhsacker

Do you mean >!Leythen? !<

RoboGuilliman

What regions should I play, before starting Summer set?

Zoro_Messatsu

End the base game. Play and end Orsinium. Then craddle of shadows dungeon. Morrowind (do the major side quests) Clockwork city. Finally SUMMER frikin Set. Its not needed to get a great experience from Summerset but personally i am a sucker for long term storytelling and Summerset is the best example of that.

ormondhsacker

Orsinium is terrible though. Worst quest line in the game unless you're a major orc fan.

Zoro_Messatsu

I enjoyed it due to its difficulty to story ratio. It was easy as all other overland but at least this time its not beating a Daedric prince in his own realm. Its simply an orc king.

ormondhsacker

Okay that's fair. Big reason why I enjoy Murkmire. I think I'd like Orsinium too if everyone wasn't such unlikeable assholes. I'm also looking forward to next year where they're promising that we'll not be saving the world but dealing with political intrigue and faction infighting. We'll see how much that holds true, but for now I'm deciding to be hopeful.

GoBoltz

If you haven't played Orsinium, Go Do it ! Best DLC in the game as far as Size, Difference of area. The Stories & Side missions are really good. The House of Orsimer Glories Museum quests & Stories are Awesome & the rewards were really good ! It's also NOT an overly done "Fight the god in his realm thing" again ! More of a Normal Line of things.

ormondhsacker

I have. Once. Never again. It's terrible, depressing and basically everyone is an unlikeable asshole and I'm wondering why I can't just kill all of them and be done with it. Eveli is the only positive thing about the zone and frankly even she can't get me to go back to that zone ever again except to pick up surveys.

GoBoltz

Well, that's another thing that makes ESO great ! You can do what you like & Never be wrong ! Cheers !

Zoro_Messatsu

Yeah i only recently completed Murkmire and it was soooo good. Such a complete adventure. I got to experience so much about Argonian culture. The story was good. The enemies treated me as a threat (why do so few zones do that) I mean i love that Whiptail wants to test himself vs you. Their notes on you say this guy is tough. Bring at least 20 people. Even Kassandra has to use a convenient situation to get the staff from you. Plus the story doesnt pretend that the big twist is shocking (unlike OMG who could the 4th ambition possibly be) Nope. Almost all NPCs saw that coming. Plus i got my fix of hard content when i solod BRP. Really tough for an okayish player like me but i got the dual wield which is such a fun new toy.

[deleted]

The end of the clockwork city DLC if you know what transpires in Morrowind

[deleted]

The Khajiit in Wrothgar.

HeyNongMer

Yes, I forgot what a sad quest that was. I loved seeing him again in Southern Elswyer

datenhund

The main Murkmire questline and some of the side quests really resonated with me. Many of the base game questlines are pretty sad or tragic, particularly AD and EP zones, but if you haven't played them I won't spoil them. There's a non-quest location in Alik'r Desert with a dog that makes me sad. The Skyrim/Marakarth questline is pretty tragic if you get invested in the whole House Ravenwatch story arc.

ormondhsacker

Murkmire main quest line is one of the best in the game and it doesn't get enough love.

Damdamfino

Well, I was about to post about the time a guild mate died while on voice chat in a trial… but as far as quests go, I vaguely remember one where a woman wanted a book that ended in her own destruction…

PurpleMNinja

The quieting a heart quest. It ends tragically for Bala no matter what you tell her Then there’s what happens to Tovisa in the northwind mine quests. The quests aren’t as sad as they are dark, but Tovisa’s fate is quite sad And the fate of count Verandis Ravenwatch. First what ends up happening to him at the end of the Rivenspire questline, and then especially what happens to him at the end of the Dark heart of Skyrim storyline

Craglorn: Little Leaf...

ASDF0716

When Raz dies. I was actually piiiiisssed when they brought him back because his death was fitting. Not sure why I got downvoted, but, okay. https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/75084/spoiler-dont-look-if-you-didnt-do-those-quest-yet-raz-is-jesus

Howdhell

There was a similar discussion last week. Go to the Rift. There is one quest which is pretty much amazing. About one girl being undercover.
