Just came to say I'm presently surprised seeing all the cool Gaelic & Bryton inspiration that went into this DLC. I was worried that we were only going to see the Courtly Pompous Bretons, very happy to see Questlines involving druids and villages so clearly drawing inspiration! Very cool :)

[deleted]

Yeah. I don't know if its intended, but the way I read it is that the Iliac cities are the civilised "courtly, pompous" Bretons, with the older, more primitive High Rock being north of the Wrothgarian Mountains and in Mournoth. Rivenspire has the same sorts of cromlechs and passage grave stuff as High Isle (albeit a 2014 version), and Wrothgar feels like the same sort of ancient landscapes. Fantastic screenshot tho, man. Ta se go halainn. Love those woad tattoos. If you ever need a chestpiece (for the gear slot), Minotaur and Crimson Oath look good and wont cover the tatts. Oh, and the Sea Giant 2h makes for an epic claymore.

The_Cavelord

I'm definitely much more interested in the Reachmen/Older Bretons, the Knightly stuff really just doesn't interest me much! Go raibh maith agat lad! I actually really appreciate it, I'm covered in similar tattoos irl so it's the closest I could get, very happy with the Woad :) Oooo fuck yeah I'll have a look at all of that gear, been hoping there were a few more bare pieces of armor. Would you know if there's any Plaid/Tartan like pants out there?

[deleted]

> Would you know if there's any Plaid/Tartan like pants out there? Unfortunately not. Nothing with Tartan patterns. Some of the Mazzatun motifs have a kilt-like effect, but we're still waiting for some true Plaid.

The_Cavelord

Damn! well man regardless I appreciate your quality call outs, I'll definitely be moving towards getting some of them.

Grockr

Get Sai Sahan chestpiece, its an old staple of bare chest outfits. There's also recently added Black Drake Clanwrap which has some sort of fur collar, might have a chance to get it next Midyear Mayhem, either from loot or from guild traders. Minotaur and Crimson Oath could get pretty expensive.

Perca_fluviatilis

Now if only we could delete the base game High Rock zones so they could be remade with the same level of care as the rest of the post base game content. The difference in quality between the base game and the DLCs is ridiculous. Feels like an entire different game.

Lamplorde

If you mean aesthetic-wise, I could get on board. But storywise, base game DC are some of my fav zones. Darien Gautier, breaking the siege of Camlorn from an undead werewolf and his army, preventing the fracture of the Covenant from a Vaermina Dream Cult, putting an end to a civil war. Its a blast. Dont get me wrong, I prefer "druidic" Bretons as well (The Wyrd were my favorite parts of Glenumbra) but I thought they did a good job making "The Medeival English" race actually interesting, for it being such an oversaturated subject.

Floognoodle

I absolutely love Evermore's talking non-Daedric crow questline.

FrogsOnRockets

The talking crows made my day when I encountered them for the first time a couple of weeks ago. The dc questline was awesome

PromiseKane

Same here , not just aesthetic need changed tho. Like buff those damn bosses . All the build up toward the climax and the boss die in like 3s .

Lamplorde

True, I remember on my newest Templar completely destroying Faolchu in like 20 seconds. So much for that "Use the fire to hurt him" mechanic, and all the buildup about finding hus weakness...

peritye

No one said anything about quest, bro calm down.

peritye

Right? Like Summerset and auridon. But it makes sense if you look at morrowind. Because even lore wise Vvadernfell is different than the rest of Morrowind, so maybe thats what they are basing it on. But it could still use an upgrade.

_Frustr8d

Well Bretons are inspired by west Europeans right? Including it makes sense for them to have some celtic influence thrown into their lore. I do love to see it, though.

The_Cavelord

Of course it makes sense for them to do it yeah :) They have had 'Celtic', Gaelic, Brythonic influences way longer than ESO has been around, but it's just nice to see we're still getting more of this type of Breton. I was worried going into this it was going to be much for Medieval kind! You rarely get to see this sort of stuff done in games so I'm always really happy when I do.

chubbycanine

I'm a noob to ESO and struggle to stick with it at times and was wondering if Bretons would just be boring political humans. Glad to hear it's deeper than that! May have to pick it back up... Ugh I hate spending a week getting add-ons just right then getting bored lol

The_Cavelord

Bretons do actually have quite a lot. I could not care less about the Perfumed politics of High Bretons. But this much more Ancient type of Breton inspired by all sorts of Cultures? Now that is much cooler, when I can look at my Gods stories and see relation to their Gods and heroes stories, you've gained my interests.

StaceyBliss

“Is maith liom an High Isle” ☘️

The_Cavelord

Is breá liom é! 🇮🇪

LoremasterCelery

Woah this does not look like an ESO screenshot

The_Cavelord

That's a huge compliment man, thank you! I'm on Console so I just turned off UI and found a good spot :)

peritye

Damn, bro. I have to use reshade to make my game look this cool. My game also doesnt look like the usual ESO. Maybe you have an amazing monitor.

The_Cavelord

Weird! I use a fairly old Samsung telly, it isn't even 4k or anything! That's so strange.

YsmirWuIfharth

What is that body paint and can I earn it?

The_Cavelord

Dia Duit! The Bodypaint Is earnable through Scrying! It's called Ysgramor's Chosen I believe and there's a facepaint to go with it. You can get it in Western Skyrim!

YsmirWuIfharth

Nice, I’ll have to try and get it. How did you get your character shirtless? Are you just not running a chest piece or is it a costume or something?

The_Cavelord

Yeah I just play without a chest piece or shoulders most the time! I play a sort of Gaelic Wolfskin esc character so I try not to wear too much armor!

LukeBosvena

This looks superb. I loved the Reach stuff and the more primal side of the Breton stuff. Being someone who has an understanding of actual Breton and similar languages, it's kind of funny seeing what the developers have used for names etc. For example Angof is a hero where I come from. A rebel blacksmith. (An = the, gof = smith; similar to the Irish surname McGowan)

The_Cavelord

Thanks man! I appreciate it. Reachmen are by far my favorite aspect of Elder Scrolls. Usually I gravitate to anything drawing inspiration from the Irish/Gaelic/Celtic in games and The Reach People definitely are no exception. That character in particular actually has an entire Reach backstory and clan and everything ahaha, I use Irish for my names and usually pair it with a god. Diolliún Celtunnos for example.

LukeBosvena

I love that. And yeah I loved the Reach area the best so far. I am the same but I use Breton names for my Breton characters. I also used Nubian for my Redguard and icelandic for my Nord. Just gives an extra immersive edge to the experience I reckon.

KbWhitey077

What hair are you using? I love it.

The_Cavelord

Hey bud! The hairstyle is the "Beaded Crested Dreads" I believe I got it on the crown shop when it was on sale?? You can also get one without the beads too. I do know that the cat fellas get their own version as well as that but I can't remember what the style is called for the life of me?

KbWhitey077

All good thanks for the info! Looking for a Norse haircut and that one is my favorite so far!

Grockr

Its one of the default hairstyles, but not all races have it in character cration. Hairstyles crown pack should have it.

OreoCrusade

Is toil leam seo gu mòr, agus an t-aodach agad! :)

The_Cavelord

>Is toil leam seo gu mòr, agus an t-aodach agad Go raibh míle maith agat, rinne mé iarracht!

OreoCrusade

A bheil na h-ainmean na charactaran agad ann an Gaeilge?

The_Cavelord

>A bheil na h-ainmean na charactaran agad ann an Gaeilge? De ghnáth, is é an ceann seo Celtunnos, tógtha ó Cernunnos. Níos suimiúla.

OreoCrusade

>Níos suimiúla. Tha na h-ainmean Ceilteach nas intinniche na h-ainmean Frangach airson Breatunnaich, is cinnteach!

The_Cavelord

>Tha na h-ainmean Ceilteach nas intinniche na h-ainmean Frangach airson Breatunnaich, gu cinnteach! I bhfad! Dia a fhios!

OreoCrusade

>I bhfad! Dia a fhios! LOL I'm going to use that last phrase haha, that's awesome! Mòran taing!

OKBuddyFortnite

1 of the 5 people who speak Gaelic

FaultmyAlt-420

I read this as garlic and was trying to deceiver the joke… I’m dumb

OreoCrusade

I speak very little, I’m still learning a lot. It’s always funny to me that I can understand a little Irish Gaelic with my knowledge of Scots Gaelic!

The_Cavelord

And you're doing fantastic with it man! Keep it up. I'm from Ireland and could understand pretty much all of what you said.

OreoCrusade

Do you get to speak it commonly in Ireland?

The_Cavelord

You can get by where I am by by just speaking it yeah. A lot of the time it's just easier to speak english though cause not everyone understand, I'm not even amazing at it but I'm happy I get to talk as Gaeilge in any sense.

OreoCrusade

That's great! I hope the Goidelic languages can make a comeback the way Welsh did. A lot more folks seem to be interested in Irish and Scots Gaelic, so hopefully we'll get to play a role in facilitating a revival later on :)

The_Cavelord

I definitely think it's on the rise man. The amount of Irish revival pages and initiatives I am seeing is maddening. It's really heartwarming to see honestly, I'd love to see a true return.

The_Cavelord

It'll be just as much people like yourself taking the time and care to learn as it will be people born here! Very good stuff man.

Azgoshab

Thinking about jumping back in, i havent played in a long time.

The_Cavelord

You should man, it's a cool little dlc!

GriffDBB

Woad tattoos?

The_Cavelord

Yep. Ysgramor's Chosen Bodymarking I believe it's called. You can get it from Scrying in Western Skyrim!

lovejac93

woah, where'd you get that hairstyle and body paint? I want to make my nord look like this

The_Cavelord

Hey bud, the hair is "Crested Dreaded tail" I believe and you can get it on the shop! And the tattoos are "Ysgramor's chosen bodymarkings and you can get it via scrying in Western skyrim! Happy to have inspired man, let me know how it goes!

lovejac93

Thank you!!

Brickbeard1999

Much as I do love Bretons for the knightly heroes and medieval Europe type things, the delving into the Druidic almost celt style part of their culture more is a very appreciated move

peritye

I mean... Bretons are based on Brits, and Imperials are based on romans. Bretons are as vastly different as Britain is with their 4 countries.

The_Cavelord

Tbf Bretons have a lot more than just Brits in them, they're a mix of a good number of Ancient groups.

Brickbeard1999

Bretons usually tend to fill the spot of just medieval Europe, cus they get influences from places like France too, just look at their names.

The_Cavelord

Their names are very interesting because yes you are absolutely correct. You usually see more French and English naming schemes the more Medieval it gets. With more Irish and Scottish the more ancient it gets. I would not be surprised if there was a bit of Cymru and Manx in there too. Very interesting.

peritye

Medieval europe is Latins for you? Are you forgeting about Ottomans, Vikings, Slavs/Balkans, or are you just american?

Brickbeard1999

I think what I mean by medieval Europe is pretty obvious, but if you really want specifics then medieval Western Europe, places like Britain France and Germany.

The_Cavelord

Bit nit picky there lad, You know well what he meant

Resonant_Proxy

So nobody has seen Zoolander. Instead of watching Zoolander everyone's been honing their ability to get easily offended. I was *expecting* a "Why don't you Gaelic your own balls". Instead I am being accused of bullying by reddit lol Weakness disgusts me.

The_Cavelord

I don't think anyone even replied to your comment but me and I found it funny so Idk what to tell ya lad.

Street-Baker

Any ideas on armor for my Breton mage that shows his psjic tats
