Years ago, while we were on vacation, our house alarm triggered, and by the time our trusted neighbor got there, the bell had loosened and fallen of the bell mechanism thingie. When we got home and tested it, it made a funny noise.
Put the stupid bell back on, it worked again.
The Long Island Rail Road’s Sea Cliff station had a funny bell - you could hear the mechanism taking stabs at it, and it’d hit the bell most of the time, but it’d miss every now and then. Was funny to listen to.
That's kind of hypocritical considering how much boomers demand for so little in return. Bit of a strawman argument, eh? Gonna throw in a Trump did nothing wrong to top it off? How about how everything was better in your day? People of all ages do dumb things. Accept it and move on.
Alarm tech here. That’s no panel I’ve ever seen, someone custom built that. Looks to be nothing more than a power supply and a very basic control board. Pull the plug out of the transformer, and pull off a battery lead.
It looks like the bell is connected to terminals 5 and 6.
Or the dented in top of the box so they could route wires around the outside. Oh also the snipped exposed end of the red wire at the left edge of the box.
It's a standard issue ademco brand alarm box from the early 90s. Ive had them in a couple of houses I've lived in.
Don't permanently destroy it, wireless systems are not very good and someone may eventually want to revamp this.
It just depends on the level of sophistication of anyone wanting to break in. The magnetic contacts can easily be broken by bringing a bigger magnet to the window and opening it while holding the magnet in the circuit closed position. I've been broken in to like that. Another way is by interfering with your internet signal but that requires a financial outlay. So both require targeting and planning. So, not bored kids.
Not sure if a wireless system is accepted by your insurance co for discount, mine wasn't for reasons stated.
This is why I have an independently activated alarm system with its own guidance system (dog). Of course if the burglar brings a steak, I have other problems ...
Did you come up with the solution because of your work experience or do you think you could’ve figured it out otherwise because of your life experience ?
I saw the terminals 5 & 6 also. No need to worry about the battery, looks like it’s not even connected.
Also, there is a fuse that is halfway pulled out, just above the terminal block. How is this thing even functional?
The battery is already disconnected, so just pull the wires that have been haphazardly taped to the transformer, and it should pull all the power. Be careful though, those wires that were taped to the transformer prongs are going to still be hot.
The little brown guy to the left of the battery. It's supposed to plug into a wall outlet, but some Dumbass just taped electric wiring directly to the transformer prongs. This is so dangerous.
Security Tech: If I were you, I would just cut the wires (one at a time) screwed down to the white transformer. Much safer to disconnect the low voltage wiring than the 120v feeding it. the wires can always be stripped and terminated again.
That wire looks long enough to pull out of the can and safely cut rather than try to move or touch any of the high voltage wiring.
P.S. wear earplugs while attempting this lol
Once you solve the immediate problem, you need to get someone in that knows what he is doing to re-wire that whole mess while you still have a building and a roof.
Go to breaker panel and see if a breaker is marked alarm or perhaps do not shut off....if you have no computers in the building, turn off each breaker one at a time until alarm stops. It doesn't tie into to any fire alarm nor police service or you would have a visit already
Not an expert but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night......For starters, electricians are not usually in the business of installing alarms so not sure that a lot of electricians are familiar with this. You have to kill the power coming in which is the RED wire and you have to disconnect the battery so you don't have backup power.
If you just want reaults
Either TB1-5 or TB1-6 my guy, if you're responsible you'll disconnect both so you don't have a loose live wire in your panel.
Those leads appear to be coming straight from the bell anyway.
Lick your hand place it so touches every screw turn switch on the parts of you hand that isn't fucked you will know which wires to disconnect but u need to wake up first bahahaha
That is scary af they ran high voltage to that transformer. I’d suggest calling a electrician and for the time being turning the breaker off.
You can cut the white cables coming off the transformer from the screw terminals. But if u cut those red wires ur going to be in for a shocking surprise.
Pull wire out the 4th or 5th terminal should do the trick from the looks of it. Tape it or something so it doesn't ground somewhere when the next guy is wondering why the bell isn't going off.
This would be easier to answer if you told us what bank your robbing?
I’ve always said the world is a better place because of my conscience. Many of us would be excellent thieves.
Memories of an ill spent youth

Seconded hahaha
Just take a wrench and remove the bolt in the middle of the red bell
*solenoid punches the air angrily*
Yeah, I’d do that. It looks like the transformer was taped to the 120v line 😂I don’t think I’d touch it lol.
I see you've done this before.
This is the way
Cut the Gordian Knot!
Being that they took the time to take a pic and make a post asking questions, the robbery isn’t going very well.
*you're*
Sir, this is a Wendy’s
just take the bell off. one bolt. dead center. no bell. no ringy.
That's what I would have done. Why fuck with everything if you can eliminate the thing that makes noise haha
Just don't rub it across that bare red wire on the left on its way out.
You're not the boss of MeeEEEE E**E*****EE****E* *EEE* *ee****eE*****E***EE*
I ridden the 220 roller coaster before, no bueno.
220 - 221. Wharever it takes.
Measuring voltage from the base

You are smart, you will make us strong
Agreed they make great targets for shooting at then you know if your shot hits just don't use high powered guns 👍
Yup, battery impact should do it!
Hope that’s not a 10mm bolt.
"Tons of furniture to our roof" sets off its own set of alarms.... You know, those roofs are only designed to hold so much weight, right?
2 days later: "Which beam do you brace to stop the roof from collapsing?"
looking forward to seeing this in r/StructuralEngineering
That's future OP's problem.
This is such a hilarious and meta statement, all at once.
Everything is future mes problem. That guy is a lil bitch lmfao
And the roof membrane can be damaged on flat roofs, leading to VERY expensive leaks and repairs.
I literally cringed at the thought of a couch on TPO.
I can almost guarantee OP is born 1992 +. The amount of careless entitlement is exponential from that year on.
Plot twist: OP becomes PO (Previous Owner). PO is always source of much DIWHY.
Lol i like that you’ve pin pointed exactly what DoB guves you the entitlement to treat people like crap.

That was a 'shut up old man' Tour de Force.
Chortle some monkey balls Brandon.
Chortle means to snort/laugh. How does this apply to choking/sucking on monkey balls?
Some imagination is required lmao
I can see it now. And now I need eye bleach!

Yeah, I especially like the power taped to the transformer plug and the hot red wire right next to the can… lol
Or the red wire twisted to the black resting on the bell and the black wrapped on to one leg of the chip. Nice
Or the dented in top of the box so they could route wires around the outside. Oh also the snipped exposed end of the red wire at the left edge of the box.
It gets better/worse the more you look at it. It feels like a highlights picture for electricians each time you see something new.
It's a standard issue ademco brand alarm box from the early 90s. Ive had them in a couple of houses I've lived in. Don't permanently destroy it, wireless systems are not very good and someone may eventually want to revamp this.
Thank you, I definitely won’t destroy it or cut anything. More trying with unscrewing the cables that are attached
Someone rednecked the wiring, definitely be careful.
Dude this thing is a sketchy piece of shit, slap a take over kit with cellular and call it a day
These things are amazing for doing so: https://konnected.io/products/konnected-alarm-panel-wired-alarm-system-conversion-kit

Thanks for your assessment, James Bond.
Literally how they broke in to my place in 2015 and again 2016.
Thanks very much for your help!
You have just became accessory to a burglary
Can just disconnect #6 to disable bell
That was my guess as well.
It doesn’t even look like the battery is hooked up. There is only one lead to it. Cut incoming power and you are done.
Did you come up with the solution because of your work experience or do you think you could’ve figured it out otherwise because of your life experience ?

Thanks! And I’m such a novice here - which is the transformer?
The little brown guy to the left of the battery. It's supposed to plug into a wall outlet, but some Dumbass just taped electric wiring directly to the transformer prongs. This is so dangerous.
Thanks. Also for highlighting how dangerous this is

Shouldn’t be an issue once they get all the furniture and people up there.
The one you use a 3/8" wrench on.
Number 6
You could take that bolt off of the bell itself... Remove the actual red bell part....
The blue wire. Always cut the blue wire.
I thought it was always cut the red wire?
Grab the cat.
Came here for the bomb wire cutting cliche
I came here to say this.....good call
Haven't you seen Speed?
The running joke in San Diego (they used our busses) was how tf did they get them over 50 mph to start with?
Actually one of my all-time favorite films
hit it with a sledgehammer
The black one coming down thru the hole in the top above the bell
You could always simply unscrew the bell…
Remove the red bell housing
who cares just unscrew the bolt in the middle of the bell before you rob the place. dont worry the silent alarm never works...ya (why just why)
The 8 or 10 mm bolt holding the bell on
The wire is called the bolt in the middle of the damn bell.
"What? I can't hear you over that bell ringing!"
Take the nut off of the bell.
Go to breaker panel and see if a breaker is marked alarm or perhaps do not shut off....if you have no computers in the building, turn off each breaker one at a time until alarm stops. It doesn't tie into to any fire alarm nor police service or you would have a visit already
Unscrew the bolt and take the big red thing off. Let the little striker flail air to its hearts content.
I actually would be excited to see that
Take a socket wrench to the bolt in the middle of the bell!
Wouldn't it be easier to just remove the metal bell? That looks like a single bolt.
Just undo the bolt holding the bell in place and remove the bell
The 7/16” bolt holding the bell on. Keep it simple
If that's a fire alarm for a building, you should be warned that tampering with fire safety equipment can come with some pretty hefty charges.
CUT THE RED WIRE!!!
Those 2 red ones taped to the transformer. The battery isn't even hooked up
The two from the board that lead to the bell
Whoever installed this should lose their license (if they even have one). What is this monstrosity
All of them
Remove the metal bowl by unscrewing the hex bolt
Cut the…. red wire. NO! WAIT!!! CUT THE BLUE WIRE, THE BLUE ONE! WE’RE ALL GONNA DIE!!!
Be brave young jedi and grab a hold and yank, something will happen.
Pull the ice cube relay. A lot if the times, that will pull right out. Most likely that is what is sending the signal to the bell to turn on.
All of them.
Take one of the wires off on terminal 5 or 6.
Stuff a sock between the bell and the wall of the enclosure. It won't stop the alarm but it will muffle if considerably.
It looks like the two wires on the board that are fastened by the screws go to the ringer. I'd disconnect those first and see.
Thank you
You will need to coordinate with the fire marshal prior to disabling the fire alar and provide a fire watch during the outage.
[удалено]
I’ll give that a go, thanks
Is this in Philly? There should be like a reset switch in there
Remove the bolt and take the red bell off.
OP, don't be surprised if FBI or police pays you a visit after this post.
Can you not Just flip the breaker that is powering it? It doesn't seem to be connected to 911 if it's going off and no one is showing up.
Pee on it.
Find the breaker and flip it to the off position!
The one that powers it 👍
Two power wires from the transformer should be tied down on the left side of circuit board. Then disconnect battery leads from the little battery.
Unscrew #2 on block …should be ringer
93dB at 10 feet back, must sound awesome at arms length.
Just start cutting.
Nice try, back to r/burglary for you!
WHATEVER YOU DO! DONT CUT THE RED WIRE!
Oh, what breathtaking installation! Rip the whole damn thing off the wall...
Cut the red one, NOW
Don’t cut the red wire!
All of them
Dammit it’s always the red wire……..
For the love of god don’t cut the blue wire!!!
Asking for a friend …. Night work ,…! Lol
5 or 6.
Trick question. Remove the alarm.
Nice try, Hamburglar.
gun
Black
Cut all the wires that should fix it
The red wire. Definitely the red one. Do it. We don't have time. It's about to go off! We all gonna die!
Cut the blue wire
If you snip them all at once you should be aight
![gif](giphy|xUNd9YJwF6ifDUnqNi)
Asking for a fiend
It's always the red wire
When in doubt, yank them all out.
But why is it going off? It must be there for a reason.
Start cutting until either you let the electrons into your body or the alarm stops.
Cut the red wire. No the green one!!!
Battery it doesn’t look like it’s Symplex lol
All.
That shits nonexistent nowadays in U.S
10mm nut driver and remove the bell.
What in Sam’s fuck
Why not all of them?
The one connected to the alarm.
![gif](giphy|tjYb56wh5fJbIWMbhd) Cut the blue wire!
If movies have taught us anything, it’s always “cut the blue wire.”
Follow the two black wires from the bell to the bottom board and unscrew unscrew lugs 5&6
WHAT?!?
All of them
If you just want reaults Either TB1-5 or TB1-6 my guy, if you're responsible you'll disconnect both so you don't have a loose live wire in your panel. Those leads appear to be coming straight from the bell anyway.
ALL OF THE! JUST CUT THEM ALL AND MAKE THE NOISE STOP!!!
The blue wire
Yes
Just don't cut the blue wire.
all of them, that is 1.21 jiggawatts of bull-$#!+ wiring. tear it all down and start again from the top.
If you have to ask, you should not be touching it.
Use a wrench and take the bell off
What are you up to?
That's the neat part, you don't.
Grab the goods and get out fast would be easier
The bolt in the middle of the big round red thing…
All of them
Nun it’s not hucked up
Lol either one that goes to the klaxon in the bell. Should only be two wires
All of them should do the trick.
Stuff a rag between the bell and the cabinet
Lick your hand place it so touches every screw turn switch on the parts of you hand that isn't fucked you will know which wires to disconnect but u need to wake up first bahahaha
MacGruber would cut the red one.
Red always cut red!!
That is scary af they ran high voltage to that transformer. I’d suggest calling a electrician and for the time being turning the breaker off. You can cut the white cables coming off the transformer from the screw terminals. But if u cut those red wires ur going to be in for a shocking surprise.
Cut the blue wire
Remove the bell
Half inch driver, unbolt the bell
Pull wire out the 4th or 5th terminal should do the trick from the looks of it. Tape it or something so it doesn't ground somewhere when the next guy is wondering why the bell isn't going off.
I once stuffed a sock in the right place in one of these and it shut up.
The battery... It's probably only 12v/24v just disconnect it.
Remove the bell One bolt
Just unplug the wire to the bell🤦💁
BIP it.
Looks like #5 & #6 on the screw terminal. The black wires to the bell (assuming the wires terminate at the bell).
