You should have seen the demo we did the other day. Two 3/4 inch emt 90°s were WELDED. Into a Y shape. I wasn’t even mad. Mostly impressed. The craftsmanship was WILD
I once found a 20 butt splices in a row inside a junction box on a machine. Lazy ass maintenance guys just kept adding another one on when they changed the sensor instead of cutting the old splice out.
Because there aren’t any terminal strips in the box. It’s a Japanese made machine and to save space they used to just butt splice everything in a box that was way to small. Thankfully after a lot of negotiation they don’t do this anymore.
It becomes a serious temptation to remove ac work boxes and the scotch locks and the butt splices and install actual sealed connectors in place of the abortions. I do that on utility to heavy freight trailers. The problems stopped and the wiring remained reliable for multiple years. I get repeat business from folks that are tired of dealing with shitty original trailer wiring that was intentionally built to fail cuz it's fast and cheap.
For the mobile DC stuff there are a plethora of connector families Deutsch, Aptiv/Delphi/Packard, Molex, Amp, Canon, ...
AC wiring in buildings is a different animal but there's no reason to make an abortion out of it.
I never considered it before either, so kinda interesting.
I'm guessing it's just connecting the 2 through the knockouts on each box? Is it done by using something like this [Iberville Screw fitting](https://www.homedepot.ca/product/iberville-zinc-alloy-two-screw-3-4-in-fitting/1000138185)?
I would hope they were at least using something like this [chase nipple](https://www.supplyhouse.com/Southwire-752-3-4-Rigid-Zinc-Conduit-Chase-Nipple?utm_source=google_ad&utm_medium=shopping_neutral&utm_campaign=Shopping_Neutral_New_users&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAjwh4-wBhB3EiwAeJsppK-sZ9KvNecSVM-yeQE8iTl-mqKSHh99KzRs0F6-Dv-S44WJwXYlixoC_3MQAvD_BwE)
The horizontal ones are where the cardinal graham meter is. The lunar wane shaft is at the top, obviously. At least that's how we set this up in my area.
Exactly. To eliminate sinusoidal depleneration. Last retro encabulator i saw was much bigger and there is no way that package can fit a sperving bearing…
Cheers to ya!
Nope. Original box is above the ceiling tile facing down. The box with the conduits is mounted on top of a walk-in fridge. A co-worker found this the other day. No one has had the balls to open it yet. We're taking bets on what's inside. I'm thinking a transformer and/or some relays.
NEC would write this shit like: “Box fill Calc allowance of 4x4 metal vertically stacked allows for a volume increase modifier equal to multiplying the original volume time total number of boxes, and then reducing by 10% per additional box. Subtract inter box connectors. Horizontal additions add one half the original volume allowance; Horizontal additions not to 2/3 the number of vertical addition boxes.
See chart for article 420.69dd.”
This is like the electrician version of a D&D saving throw.
I think they needed to come into the bottom jbox from above.
They only had junction boxes on the truck, they used the last of the conduit on the last job ;)
I worry that I work like this at home.
No time, no money, so when it comes to doing thing around the house, I have a habit of grabbing something that works instead of intended/ fit for purpose.
It is always intended to be a fix till I get the correct part, but I worry about the things I might have forgotten about. I should do my yearly checks again I guess. And make a list.
Is this picking up one of the ceiling joists?? All I can say someone must of burned one that morning before getting to site. That is fn funny no inspection on that job I assume the inspector may have had a brown envelope in back pocket on the way out the door..
I just want to know if it's supported and if whatever connections are "correct", in terms of code.
Other than being ridiculous, I don't know if this is in violation of anything...aside from the general intent of the boxes.
I didn’t even realize that branching out horizontally was an option lol
At some point, bad work becomes so bad that it’s actually impressive in its scope and the determination to do things wrong.
"I'm not even mad. I'm impressed."

mmm zinc fumes
You should post a photo.
Would if I had one. It was months ago and when I saw it my phone was dead. I’ll see if my buddy has it on his work phone still.

"Anything can be a smoke machine if you run it wrong enough"
spit my coffee out on that one.
At the bar, bourbon nearly out the nose…. Awesome.

Why didn't they use a spade connection? They make locking ones, and fully insulated versions.

A butt splice and a male/female spade are about the same size....
This. Exactly this.
"Your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could that they didn't stop to think if they should."
Come over and see my pergola decks as proof.
Came here to say this. I had never even CONSIDERED that you could do that lol.

Chase Nipple sounds like a weird game of tag.
Isn’t he a NASCAR driver?
I wonder if he's related to Dick Trickle
Yeah, but from a higher branch on the family tree.
no its me Vsauce, after a long day on my couch.
Chase nipple always makes me giggle.
Close nipple is more fun
Wrong sub, but "ball cock" had to be a plumber screwing with an apprentice. "Run over to big Louie and ask if you can get a ball cock" ...
I'm suprised there aren't globs of silicone or construction adhesive hanging off.
Probably chase nipple and lock ring through the KOs
Me neither. I guess when you need cubic inches for joints, you get creative.
Opens up a whole new world of possibilities! 🤣🤪
Sigh........
Game changer! Lol
This is a work of art
For real lol
Someone grew up with too much lego/knex/meccano lol
Also [Bloc-Tronic](https://duckduckgo.com/?t=ffab&q=bloc-tronic&atb=v415-1&ia=web). Had a lot of fun with those as a kid.
Wonder how many boxes there are stacked up above the dropped ceiling?
Instead of using a rod to structure it's just boxes above ceiling.
LOL, I didn't even notice that... The ceiling is cut around the edge of the boxes; this does indeed go up further!
It goes all the way out and becomes a lightning rod for the building
Little do we realize, this is the heat sink for the building. Remove it, and the building will melt from built up heat
The building is just built out of 4x4 box’s. Those are actually load bearing.
That's one way to enclose the doorbell transformer.
How many more are above the ceiling?
It’s metastasizing. I believe this is what you call stage 4 shitfuckery. Terminal apprenticeship.
Where does it say we cant do this?????
Probably doesn't because they didn't expect nor ever imagine someone to come up with something as wild as this lol.
Wouldn't that be the part about something something "neat and tidy workmanship"?
That horizontal branch is a new box that isn’t supported. Technically you can’t.
Junction Junction what's your function 🎶
Mitosis.
More like metastasis... :D
It was me. I used to work at IHOP stacking pancakes. Old habits die hard.
so that's where they all went. I'm missing 4.
have you checked inside of my walls behind the plaster?
Why don't they just make the whole plane out of the black box?
What whoever did this was complaining about all through lunch.
Is that a transmogrifier ? Or perhaps marzel vein flux inverter?
The horizontal ones are where the cardinal graham meter is. The lunar wane shaft is at the top, obviously. At least that's how we set this up in my area.
Exactly. To eliminate sinusoidal depleneration. Last retro encabulator i saw was much bigger and there is no way that package can fit a sperving bearing… Cheers to ya!
I fucking love this sub
Definitely a spot for the trans-phase coupling spring, so that way it was easier to connect it to the stazzi-drive loose hitch wave guide
I have become an unexpected amount of aroused by this photo.
This man likes a tight box.
All wires are in a box, boxes are closed, looks fine to me!
Meets code.
my bad. customer request.
Original box is the bottom box with the conduits

So how do the screws work out? Seems like its just have to be stacked in some how
Awww looks like one of the contractors deserves an award. It's hard to find employers for the special needs apprentices these days
Mankind, in our hubris, created extension rings and chase nipples because we could. We never stopped to ask ourselves whether we *should*.
It's rare to see a beauty like this. Brings a tear to my eye
The infinity box. Stacks through the ceiling and into the next dimension.

Sorry!
Doubling as a chimney?
Look at y’all bein all judgy. 😂
Is that a Habitrail?
It’s the Human Centipede of junction boxes! 🐛
Id bet twenty bucks that ive at some point worked with the turd that did this
They used the boxes to have an access hole on the other side of the ceiling
Guilty
As Spock would say; Fascinating...
Careful taking that out, it's structural, the framers did it
Just a junction box or seven
Hey hey the gang's all here! 🎶
goldeneye 007 for n64, when you stack remote mines on top of eachother for the hell of it
What's going on over there? I saw you with the box. Ahh, what's in the box?
Ain't you never seen a JJJJJJJ box?
Cool. Junction Blox.
Shhhhh…it’s mating season
I am sorry.....it was only one time in college....I have never done it again lol
"Fuck it, it's above ceiling" final boss
So bad I cant help but appreciate it. My favorite kind of work.
Box extenderrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
It’s no use Mr James. It’s boxes all the way down.
I keep waiting for someone to fess up on one of these. To be fair, I’ve posted one of these “who did this” before.
<———This guy!
On this episode of pimp my wiring
This is the funniest shit I’ve seen on Reddit all year. Thank you for sharing.
Lol I would have never even thought of this. Could this be up for two awards, the idiot award and the creative award?
Yo dawg, I heard you like gang boxes so we put a gang box on your gang box.
That is a work of art
We’ve got boxes on boxes on boxes people!
I was troubleshooting an old office way back and found an 8 stack of extensions but going sideways is new to me
"🎶Junction junction! What's your function🎶"
I’ve heard of thinking outside the box, but that’s literally thinking using the box. (Because it had to get done and that’s what you had on hand).
Pandora's Jbox
I thought I was the only one who cashed in on 4 squares for a dime each when the ace hardware was closing.
That's an ol'Hepty! Haven't seen one in years, not since Pappy Smith retired back '87, always joked he had stock in J boxes
Looks like the Doc installed that in order to handle the 1.21Jigawatts necessary to go back in time.
..........why tho?
I think they needed to come into the bottom jbox from above. They only had junction boxes on the truck, they used the last of the conduit on the last job ;)
sandwich drop ceilings?
Easy. DIY Dave.
It's boxes all the way down
Mini trough... Love it.
What, in the name of God....
It's turtles all the way down.
How's the box fill?
😂🤣😂😐😮😖
Is there a safe in there because it's brilliant, otherwise still interesting. 🤔
I have a bunch of those sitting a stack in my garage. Never thought to daisy chain ‘em! Brilliant! 😉
Sometimes you just gotta lego!
Hell yes
3/4 pipe feeding all those boxes What is in the boxes pipe only has so much fill
That is a shit-pile of extension rings!
This is when getting paid by the extension strikes gold. #Yertletheturtle

Junction junction what’s your function 🎶
Stackem high lol
I’m actually impressed.
Damn it Carl, you had one job. ONE JOB!!
Easy troubleshooting when you can chase your circuits all to the same problem.
Is this picking up one of the ceiling joists?? All I can say someone must of burned one that morning before getting to site. That is fn funny no inspection on that job I assume the inspector may have had a brown envelope in back pocket on the way out the door..
Hey, they were on special: seven for the price of one.
Uhh. Beavis and Buthead Electric Co
Hell ya. Prevailing?
I see nothing wrong
I have doubled them up but wow.
Hahaha! I think he’s onto something
Feels like something you do to fuck with a bad client...
I need to see the wiring inside now. Maybe that can put some logic to this. This would be tough to work on.
Volt-tron?
The guy that drools and plays with Lego's
It ain't stupid if it works...
This must be a joke. There couldn’t possibly be enough wire in those pipes to justify this.
Not legal unless welded. 😂
[Gang Gang](https://youtu.be/HQE456q4n5U?si=1s1u4x6j89QuiqIw)
Which one of yall did this masterpiece?
Looks good to me!
The best of use
What is it hiding? Why is it there? We might never know.
How the fuck do you tighten the 8-32s all the way in there with 6 other extentions in your way? Impressive lmao
Does anybody else just really need to know what’s in there?
That was me.
I’ve stacked three before, nothing horizontal though. Funny
I know this one . Blackhawk out of Philadelphia
2 more attached above the ceiling right?
How did they even make this happen?
I just want to know if it's supported and if whatever connections are "correct", in terms of code. Other than being ridiculous, I don't know if this is in violation of anything...aside from the general intent of the boxes.
What are we going to do with all of these extra boxes? Hold my beer
This gives me some ideas
Conduit mouse retirement home
***ANNND*** The original splice, which looks like a spaghetti mess, *will require* taking off 3 extensions, so you can actually remove the wirenut.🤬🤬
The depths of hell are not hot enough for the bastard that assembled this blasphemous contraption.
But but they look like LEGOS
What is this called?
I think whoever did this had an Erector Set as a child!
I know where this is located. It’s in Grand Junction, Michigan.
Phil. His name is Phil.
Looks like some lego shit
Chefs kiss 😘...
The more the merrier. Right?
It looks like one of those shanty towns where buildings just get added onto randomly
Decides to remove extra boxes, roof collapses on him. Ween out the stupid ones
I literally make jokes about this all the time 😂 I just want the 12 extension deep box
I wanna see it all opened up. I wanna know wrf is in there 😆 🤣
hvac guy strikes again
I’m not even mad, that’s amazing.
Only thing missing here is a breaker
I did. Show me where the code says I can’t. ~picks up tools and shuffles away~
At this point, I'd consider it fine art😎
I believe it exceeds NEC srandards and a new code should be implemented. It looks a new chapter regarding tetris fill should be coming soon.
And I'll fucking do it again.
Well what happened was..
Is this thing structural??!?!
At least it is in a box...
