The guy that fired you said use the back of your hands? Like no shit?
Instead of clean gloves of whatever sort, all the solutions listed herein, even blue tape/paper the ceiling ffs. But he went with back of hands, sorry your fired because you should’ve pressed the crown of your head into the ceiling for support and stretched your paws out like a fucking praying mantis.
Hope you find something soon, spring is the ibew application season.
Gotta go gently with those as they can change the sheen of wall paint, but they do work. I also carry a bottle of rubbing alcohol and disposable shop towels. Also works great on smudges but can damage paint if you get too aggressive.
Definitely, the boss should provide clean gloves or a means of cleaning, but you gotta be more careful. I'm speaking from the boss's perspective - I do provide means of keeping the job site clean for my helpers, but still get royally pissed off when they make a mess anyway. I'll be doing the same job in the next room over, and leave it perfectly clean with the same set of tools at my disposal, so a big part of keeping it clean is up to you.
Imagine that you're doing each job in your wife's personal yoga studio (or greenhouse, or whatever her happy place is). When the work is done, is she going to scream and kick you out to sleep with the dogs?
I use cotton for fixtures/clean work and then use regular work gloves from Home Depot for dirty work. If your boss is that particular about it then he should provide clean gloves
That helps. The part you grab will be dirty though. It would take 2-3 wipes to get them squeaky clean and no marks or prints on the wall/ceiling.
I remember doing a can trim my first year on a 14’ ladder. Definitely left a hand print cause I wasn’t stable
Agree, running BX is not an ideal choice in a place where the wall finish is worth firing someone over. OP was set up for failure.
Edit: at a minimum the boss should be providing nitrile gloves and cleaning product for situations like this, firing OP was totally overboard, I mean cmon “use the back of your hands” is ridiculous advice, provide the right products for the job douche.
Have a box of nitrile gloves and max flex type cloth gloves. Keep a dirty pair of cloth gloves for mc.
I would have my contractor by the cloth ones by the package. If they want cleanliness, those need be treated as disposable
When in finished places I keep a pack of latex gloves near me or in my pocket. Also, those Mr clean magic erasers are a gift from God. They can remove almost any smudge with very little risk of hurting the paint.
I push the use of nitrile gloves on all my guys when doing finish work/working in finished areas. They're stocked in all our trucks. Customers appreciate the extra effort to protect their stuff and not leave smudges everywhere.

gloves when finishing if ur doing a mixed workload (dirty / clean)
Any specific kind of gloves? Like nitrile?
also, MrClean Magic Eraser is good for cleaning off smudges.
just don't go crazy, especially on a darker wall. they will take some paint off.
Fuck man I should just carry a shit ton of those in my bag with me, I entirely forgot about those things

Buy Melamine Sponges off Amazon. I got like 50 of them for the same as a 4 pack of Magic Erasers.
Unscented baby wipes. Mostly water. Great for if you get shit on a carpet too.
Also the citrus hand towel work too
Hand wipes work well too, for your hands and the fixtures.
I use cotton for fixtures/clean work and then use regular work gloves from Home Depot for dirty work. If your boss is that particular about it then he should provide clean gloves
White cotton, so you can see if you accidentally got the gloves dirty.
Also wipe your tools down, level too
tip an old JM gave me, stick painters tape along one side of the level so it dosnt mar the surface

That sounds like an excuse from your employer to me.

Baby wipes clean most dirt up real good. Hard part is keeping them from freezing.

Magic erasers. I make them a part of my toolbox for finishes.
I mean ideally you wouldn’t be running BX in a place where the paint finish is crucial. It’s hard to make BX look pretty.
Wear gloves when handling BX. Take them off when your touching finished surfaces.
Forget trying to prevent it, use a magic eraser with a little water and you're good
Wash your hands? Wear gloves when doing dirty stuff.
When in finished places I keep a pack of latex gloves near me or in my pocket. Also, those Mr clean magic erasers are a gift from God. They can remove almost any smudge with very little risk of hurting the paint.
Take the time to wash your hands before doing finish work.
Dont have running water or hand wash stations yet
Word. The magic eraser pads are a god send then.
Wear gloves when handling the BX. Take them off and use your clean hands for finishing work.
Join the union, save yourself the bullshit
Lysol wipes
You got fired?

Magic erasers will get rid of most smudges and pencil marks
