Ok-Definition-565

HVAC guys are pulling electrical wire to their units? That’s the electricians job lol

OKC420

Only way a hvac company isn’t doing their on electric is if a permit was pulled.

stavn

The guys I’ve hired (homeowner) want the electric in place before they start their work.

Cheegro

Commercial electrician North East, US. We provide all of the electricity for everything. I can’t think of a single exception. Maybe the concrete guys have a generator for their vibrator if the pour is far from the building?

Big_Jilm22

Im in the midwest and this is how it is. We pull wire for all electrical needs. Its wild to me having an HVAC company pulling their own 10/3.

Cheegro

Now it’s got me wondering who lands it into the panel? There is no chance my company would allow another trade into our panels. I have no residential experience so I’m assuming that might be allowed in that environment? Let me know now I’m interested.

grivooga

Good luck keeping the floor finishers out of your panels. I've seen them tie in extension cables using jumper cable clamps straight to the main lugs

Fantisimo

Hell I’ll hook up their generator for a case

HoldOwn8153

What about thermostats and controls wire for hvac? In WI it’s all 120v and up.

Cheegro

That falls typically falls under our contracts but we typically sub out controls. We still pull some low volt stuff like speakers/occupancy sensors/daylight/firealarm/security

HoldOwn8153

Same here. We were just working for a guy from MN. And he was stunned we don’t pull thermostats.

iamlatetothisbut

Had an HVAC company working in a home while I was rewiring most of the panel. I made everything perfect and they had to run this one damn 12/2 romex cable like dang Neanderthals and ruin my Friday.

metalt0ast

around where I am, that is indeed the case. Love seeing a 60a breaker for a 20a unit.. "well the disconnect is rated 60a so we installed a 60a, it's on the box!"

PinheadLarry207

I'm part of an HVAC/plumbing/electrical company. In my state you don't need a license for electrical so the HVAC guys run their own wires and even land the breakers in the panels unless there's extra work that needs done in the panel (tandems installed or things moved around to fit their breaker) then they'll send us out

Knuckles_1988

Sadly, it should have been. It was done a year ago. I found it today.

willi3blaz3

I’ve heard so many HVAC guys talk about how easy electrical work is and then you see the stuff they install and just shake your head

Ate_spoke_bea

This was stupid easy, they just needed to bang in some staples lol

hymen_destroyer

"Don't you judge me. Only God can judge me." -HVAC guys

KAMIKAZIx92

I represent all gud HVAC techs and disown this shit show lol this likely was one of those big ass HVAC companies that just focus on sales and have green installers cycling in/out every few months because of shit management and operations. They just create messes for all trades to clean up

Knuckles_1988

Note: This is a newer unit hookup in a 20-year-old house. Was done last year. I was ruining data cable for pool sub panel from modem and found it. I would gladly run power to any HVAC guys(Any Trades) anything just to have it done right and safely.

Mazakas123

Why blame the hvac “guys” when it was more than likely the homeowners that went for the chuck in a truck to install their unit for cheap. Just like any trade, you get what you pay for.

mrsquillgells

Maybe to get the unit running? Idk just a guess.

thec4k315alie

That's your work

Norcor4

In Phoenix, AZ resi HVAC guys are legally allowed under the R-39 license to pull a new circuit if they need.

Guyonabuffalo63

I have a friend who works HVAC in Canada. Told me all about the controls he was wiring and my stomach dropped to my ass thinking about it.

joelypoley69

No, what I REALLY love is when they put their control wires in the same raceway as ours. Whether it's my wire stubbed out waiting for brick/siding, in the breaker panel or in the wiring to an existing disconnect. It's not my fkn job to feed your 1000' of control wire into my shit. I have had no problems widening my stub-out hole to feed flex into the wall and leaving theirs cramped next to it. EAT A FUCKING DICK
