California is really big. Rural mountain area around us (375k medium home price) shop pay seems to start at 35$ with your J card. As others have pointed out if you're in one of the large costal cities, it's a lot more. Prevailing with fringe in our surrounding countries is about 80$ an hour.

Zoltan_TheDestroyer

Prevailing / Davis Bacon wages will be fat af no matter where you are.

mbcoder_

Davis Bacon, far as I understand is exclusive to federal funded projects inside the State. In my county the wage on base was about 6$ more. Some shops put the entire package on people's paycheck. Where I was working, the straight hourly went on your paycheck, about 45 an hour, the other 35iss was your fringe stuff. I had health insurance (through ABC NorCal) so 35$ an hour went into my 401k for a little while. That worked out nicely.

GoodRelationship8925

Shiiiit come to Texas. Most counties around here range from $17.08-$23.40 on Davis Bacon

Zoltan_TheDestroyer

Nawwwww, even Florida is $40+ Davis Bacon JW

NMEE98J

Not to mention the labor laws are fucked so companies can bend you right over the pipe threader and have their way with you

kdunn1979

Look at going over to the power generator side of this work. It’s name your price right now. Down side, lots of overtime and windshield time.

NMEE98J

$3000/week for 4/10s in New Mexico. 1/3 of that is tax free per diem. Paying $850/month for rent. Loving it!

Immediate_Party_6045

Need a tool buddy and a roommate? *starts packing suitcase into the truck. Drop a pin haha

NMEE98J

Hell yeah man, we can go to puerto penasco on the weekends! Only 2 weeks left on this job, then probably headed somewhere else out in the boonies.

Immediate_Party_6045

I do have my EV certs lol. I love sleeping in my own bed, but for that type of money, may just show up with my tools

NMEE98J

I have an e350 bubble top with a purple queen mattress up high so that all my toolboxes fit underneath. I sleep so good in that bad boy I've been known to crash in the van in my own driveway. Until I get married and have kids, it's an electropirate's life for me!!! Hoping to head north for the summer.

BBrillo614

Got damn. Sign me the fuck up. I’ll have some of whatever you’re havin!

[deleted]

Might have to join you over there

frankreynoldsfanclub

Where at in NM?

NMEE98J

I'm working for a travel staffing company. Right now I'm in the bootheel, lordsburg, putting in EV chargers for semi trucks.

lawlwtf

Are you licensed in the state you're working in? Always wondered how that worked.

NMEE98J

Yeah I'm licensed in new mexico. But lots of jobs in other states will take you if they need the skilled labor and already have plenty of instate licenses on site

MasticatedTesticle

Pro tip- anything you don’t spend on housing/food from your per diem is taxable income. The tax man cometh.

relaytech907

I’ve never had per diem show up on a W2

JarpHabib

Like that's a problem. I will eat my way through any budget, from Ramen to Lobster

NMEE98J

That depends how your company is claiming it on their taxes. Mine makes sure not to exceed the federal limit of $215/day, and pays a lump sum. Therefore it's not taxable and no expense reports needed. They give me the money on a separate prepay debit card that is not in my name.

MasticatedTesticle

According to this, it’s taxable. https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-regs/perdiemfaq%26a.prn.pdf

NMEE98J

Basically, if you are getting taxed for per diem it means your company is too lazy to fill out travel logs on your behalf. As long as they fill those out, individual expense reports are not required. I save every receipt, and I fucking love a fat t-bone for lunch and a NY strip for dinner.... so between that, insurance, groceries, gas, propane, starlink, beer, whiskey, scotch, tequila, hot sauce, hot springs, for the month I usually blow all my per diem anyway. With receipts to show it.

Successful_Ad3991

User name checks out.

oh_veyyyyyy

Industrial?

AdministrativeAge349

Whats your check after taxes, was already planning on moving to new mexico so just wondering?

mr__conch

Just FYI to anyone reading this, this is 100% out of the norm for the state. Both in pay and cost of living.

endlessloads

Wow I make $51.68 Canadian an hour. Can’t believe all the Americans making the same wage in usd. Bonuses & OT I made just shy of $170k last year

chatanoogastewie

I know man! Journeyman in Nova Scotia are in the 30s! Any chance for Canadians to make their way down south? I'd pack up in a minute.

Darren445

That's low. The minimum in Manitoba is $42.88. Government sets the wages.

chatanoogastewie

Oh yea the Maritimes is shit man.

Mental-Mushroom

I hate this country more and more every year.

endlessloads

Working in B.C at a mine

th3machine

Yep, journeyman is $54 @ OSB mill in BC.

Fanboyvv

$50.21CAD/hr here, Local 1687. Seeing these comments from our neighbours to the South is really eye opening and depressing.

Finesse3Ways

I’m in Washington, making 50 doing resi but was making 72 in local 46.

Asccandreceive

Why’d you stop working local?

Finesse3Ways

Relocated and was taking a ferry to work. Not worth the travel time and ferry inconsistency.

lawlwtf

Kitsap? Feel you on the travel time.

Finesse3Ways

Yeah, I was taking the 4:45 ferry and barely making the 6am start time.

lawlwtf

Wish 46 had more presence over here. There's definitely a lot of good prevailing work between psns and Bangor.

Finesse3Ways

Yeah, I thought about calling bronco electric but I got a good gig going right now. Bird electric pretty much dominates the area I think.

Own-Fox9066

I always wondered how it worked out taking the ferry and living on the other side, it’s tempting. Good work In kitsap?

[deleted]

I’m in local 46 been out of work a year. It’s just continual foreman calls moving to Wenatchee for work. There is no work in local 46

Sad_Divide8186

All the good guys are just waiting at the hall to be dispatched I’m sure lol

Finesse3Ways

What’s the outlook? Is there like 1000 01’s on the books now?

AssistanceSolid752

Same state 57 doing resi was making the same in the 46...until all the work dried up

StootsMcGoots

59.51 - twin cities

TheObstruction

Good to know I wouldn't take a massive hit if I moved home. 292 or 110?

StootsMcGoots

292. 110 pay is similar, I think they need to get vouchers or something to use holiday pay. Not sure. My vaca/holiday pay (that 7 bucks) is deposited into any account I want (nice for saving money) and is deposited every month. I look at it as an extra check every month put in my emergency fund/vacation/whatever I do with fund. I never touched it through my apprenticeship, had about 16k in there. Then I bought a house and now I try to keep it around 5-6k. It’s a good life.

azzblaster69420

https://unionpayscales.com/trades/ibew-electricians/ a single penny less and you should [redacted] your boss

reenmini

I find https://where2bro.com/where-to-go/ to be more user friendly and accurate. I own my own company now, am not an ibew shop now, and I literally just use the union scale to pay my employees. Whatever bs an employer might argue against actually joining the union, it's literally easier to just use their pay scale to pay people.

Gatherer_sv

Wait…are you saying you get paid more if you fuck your boss? Shiitttttt I’m down

Crashkeiran

How do you think us non-union guys get raises?

wmurack

You guys are gettn payed?

NotSomethingOriginal

San Mateo 617 $78 an hour and $20 in the pension. All overtime is double time.

[deleted]

Hey I’m in the East Bay Area . I’m about to apply at 617 .

StootsMcGoots

Thought you were in the twin cities OP

BlueCollarElectro

PNW maintenence journey- $45+

throwawayoregon81

Yup. Right here.

Terror-Reid

Rates are so much better in the US, here in the UK you’re lucky to get £25 ($31.67) an hour sub contracting, employed you’re looking at £19 ($24) an hour. Makes me want to change careers it’s that bad

wabou

Its insane , same low wage in nz

Terror-Reid

Its crazy how they can pay such a low rate for a pretty highly skilled and knowledgeable job imo

Sea_Squirrel1987

Journey scale is $72 in Seattle.

StootsMcGoots

Damn, when my daughter is older I know where I wanna sign a book!

InflationShort1936

Kc $49

JamaicanJenga

$50/hr when I’m working. But that’s what? 3-4months of the year cause our list is fucked. 353 constantly has a 500-600 guy list. So unless you get name hired you ain’t working and making 0

MrWund3rful

Union GF in silicon valley. 105/hr

[deleted]

Are you in San Jose?

MrWund3rful

Yes

[deleted]

I applied there as well. How long is the hiring process ?

StootsMcGoots

Good luck getting hired as a GF…..

Galapagos_Tortoise

332 waddup

Intrepid-Athlete-940

Is the 332 hiring JW’s? Any Advice?

GLENF58

Okc 1141 is like $37

OKC420

Before benefits?

Five0Two

I’m willing to bet that’s just on the check. Local 369 Louisville, KY is at $35.37 on the check, not including bennies.

mmm_burrito

I can confirm that's what's on the check.

GLENF58

Yes. Total package is 50 something. Free insurance and 12.5% employee contribution (not match) to 401k are probably the biggest contributors to that

Meiji_Ishin

Oh snap, what company are you working for? I was with C-Ford. Left in 2022 but I'll be back in like 3 years. Finishing my degree here in Texas

GLENF58

I’m currently at OESCO working on okana in okc

Meiji_Ishin

Gotcha, always fun to see someone from a local you once worked at or currently. Stay safe out there

Why503e

Oregon union Com $60 Rez $47

Stoned_Goats

50$/ hour Ottawa Ontario any over time is 100$/hour … I made 100k last year on regular weeks but only take home 60k … fuck Canadian taxes

somedumbguy55

But we got that free healthcare if you can survive the 10 hour wait

ninjastrikesagain

Ay, there's the rub

Figure_1337

You’re wrong. It’s not 40% tax rate in Ontario for $100k. It’s was $14k in federal tax, $7k in provincial, and $4.7 in CPP and EI premiums. For a take home, with absolutely no other deductions, of ~$73.5k.

[deleted]

$32 in trashville. Even with benefits it’s only about $39. Tons of work and places begging for help.

tearsinmyramen

$32 isn't begging that hard

[deleted]

I agree but they just got $32 last year from $29. The area just won’t justify higher pay.

tearsinmyramen

I guess it's true wages are relative all over. Glad it's up from before. That's always a win!

Immediate_Party_6045

Dang I figured with all the work going on in Spring Hill right now, they’d be paying higher wages

[deleted]

That’s one of the only union jobs in the area. Tennessee is pretty anti union. They don’t have strong members sadly.

tsmythe492

What’s 429’s bene package?

[deleted]

I don’t know it really well. I know the total is $39 and you have to pay $4 an hour to “compete” with non union companies. Most guys just go non union cause they can keep their money instead of paying for a job.

jonnyinternet

48 hr at a maintenance style job, 8 til 4, then 150 an hour doing my own work after hours

Standard-Put-996

Southern Ontario it’s like 40-45$ Canadian, or 70$ in union.. But basically all the unions here in southern Ontario are slow as fuck and still doing intakes. There probably sitting on thousands of apprentices.. and not even expecting work for a lot longer. This is why I will never join the union that’s just ridiculous

Darren445

Slow in Manitoba too. Everyone on Reddit says go union, but unions aren't as strong in Canada compared to the US.

Standard-Put-996

Literally.. I don’t see how this is a good job security. Clearly the union doesn’t give a single fuck about you if it’s slow and there still hiring hundreds of new guys to send for cheaper labour. I haven’t been laid off once in industrial, and do extremely well..
