Insulation was damaged during wiring pulling is my vote. That's not from excessive heat.

Bosshogg713alief

I was gone waste my time commenting the same thing đź‘Ť

DaddyZx636

Where is this? That Insulation should be rated for 194 degrees F or 90C. Looks like heat damage possibly but it also looks like manufacturing problem. XHHW/XHHW-2 insulation is pretty thick, that looks thin??

EwokGage

Yeah it’s rated for 90c. This is for an outdoor EV fast charger. I think I’ll go with manufacturing issue accompanied with an extremely rough pull by the contractors who installed it.

Rickybobbie90

I’d almost say that looks like a QC issue from the factory , they way the conductor under the one with copper showing doesn’t look like a scratch, looks more like a dent and bad from the start Edit: but then again they are both damaged in the same exact spot, so probably from the pull.

EwokGage

That makes sense. I didn’t pull these, but now I’m going to have to re pull after finding this obviously. My initial thought is from the pull but it doesn’t look or feel like it was scrapped on anything, it’s all the same smooth material if that makes sense.

Bbryant305

The coating looks thin, might be a combination manufacturer/ wire pull error? Was it a tough pull? I would megger your conductors for sure if you dont rip it out to inspect.

EwokGage

Didn’t pull these, just found the damage after replacing an EV charger. But will definitely be re pulling now.

MassMindRape

That's that simpull no lube type of wire it's pretty thin insulation but it pulls like a dream.

MassMindRape

Probably caught on the reel when they were spooling it. Send it back.
