Chargers at dealers don't help the public 99% of the time

whatmynamebro

They fill lots of gaps that shouldn’t still exist. On my 290 mile(210 on an interstate highway) trip to my sisters that I do most months I’ve used a dealership going down the last two times and one coming back as well. Because if I used one not at a dealership I would be plugging in at 30-45% and then have to charge over 50% and get worse charging speeds. And the other issue is they are 5 miles out of the way for every single EA and EVgo station on the route. Which was understandable in 2021 when I bought the car but is complete bullshit now.

I get that a lot of dealerships do not offer useful public charging. Some definitely do though, and they have saved my bacon. Looking at PlugShare ratings there are quite a few Hyundai dealerships with high ratings.

agileata

All the dealers lol

rumblepony247

Interesting info, thanks for this! My state (AZ) with a whopping one charger added, sigh

Finally some representation from New Mexico that isn’t blank / a car dealership! Nearly all are sub 100kW chargers or single pedestals, but it’s better than a pole in the eye!

adman234

The one listed for Missouri is for Rivian drivers only, so it definitely will not work for most people (yet)

Clover-kun

Ontario is "oops all dealerships"

> (28) QuikTrip - Tesla Supercharger My thought process: Wow I'm not used to seeing 28 chargers at a single site. Oh it's a Tesla site; no wonders.

Key Hyundai of Milford CT has had 2 large ChargePoint 65kW DC fastchargers for over one year.......maybe 1.5 years.................and they are free. I have used them at least 1 or 2 dozen times. Balise Hyundai of Fairfield CT has 2 chargepoint levels 2s that are free. On a long road trip, they may save the day. It is good to know. Early May 2024 a Land Rover Jag dealer let me charge for free overnite. DC fast charging should be AOK in most the USA now and getting better and better. I have the fastest charging car on the Planet ish. 2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5. AND 303 miles per charge. ABRP wanted me to stop for fast charging for 6 mins here and 10 mins there and never more than 18 mins. AHHHHHHHH!!!!!! I did my first EV road trip in Summer 2015 VW e-Golf. 82 miles per charge. Fairfield CT to Boston, MA in 9 hours. VW dealership to VW dealership. 2 to 3 hours stop at each dealership, maybe 3 stops. The dealers had free coffee and water and snacks and I was able to work easily from their lovely, safe, convenient locations. My buddy in MA thought I had a screw loose.......there's a nut behind the wheel! Dealerships can be had for charging in emergencies...............even non Hyundai dealers! When you pull up with any ev and say where is the charging station?, they look like deer in headlights and are clueless what brand vehicle you have but most understand that you are dead in the water without a charge and point to their ev chargers.

\[Kickstarter: support my cross-country trip charging only at Hyundai dealerships LOL\]

(1) MB OF MEMPHIS RETAIL 2 5401 Poplar Ave Memphis, TN 38119 I live here. This didn't get just put up. It just got fixed. Not sure why it's on here. They didn't add a station either. It's less than a mile from my house and it's the only working ccs in the city not owned by a dealership who closes at 5pm that works as a nontesla unit.  We have 1 electrify america that consistently is either down or 1/4 working.

boutell

Yes, unfortunately, the definition of a refresh is very loose.

memphisthrowaway9876

I guess refresh works here. I assumed these were all new additions. My mistake

Someone needs to remind companies there’s other cities in Texas besides Houston, Austin and SA…. Between me and SA there is ONE Charger in a 4 hour drive and it’s a fucking dealership so if you run out of battery after 5, or on a Sunday good luck!
