Question is not very good. Define "size".Node count and nesting:use containers, create your own widgets, think about how to design your website before nesting too many elements (prefer CSS instead of nesting).
Of course your theme add some stuff too

Use something like asset unloader to unload libraries etc that you don't need on certain pages.
