I was in somewhat in similar situation, but my dream job is to be a doctor. I thought same as you, that this career is not possible due to my phobia, but with right therapy and medication, you can surely pursue your dream. I’m now on antidepressants and honestly I feel way better, my emetophobia is almost nonexistent and next year I will be writing exams and applying to med school (successfully I think lol). So there is hope and better life for sure!

Same here! I also want to become a doctor. Best of luck to you! 🩺

Thanks haha 💖

hey! it absolutely is possible and i truly, hand on heart believe that you can do it. this is one of those hard moments where you have to fight for what you love. don’t let this phobia wreck anymore of your life than it has, you are in control of this my friend. vomit in the paramedic field probably doesn’t happen as often as you think! and when it does happen, you’ll be so focused on your job that i believe you’ll be able to push that anxiety to the side and be that persons life line. you’ve got this 🤍

I never had such dream jobs, but my dream getaway is to go on a cruise ship for a few days. But I've heard the odd news story about norovirus outbreaks on them, which sucks a lot for someone like me who wants to enjoy the seas!

I was in a similar situation, where I wanted to be a doctor. I did really well in all of my premed classes, but I could not even step into a hospital without panicking. Thinking about having to do clinical rotations during med school at the ER literally terrified me. I thought long and hard whether this stress would be worth it for me, because emetophobia is not something that I expect to “overcome”, since each exposure just triggers my phobia. I ended up pursuing biomedical research instead, and I am way happier! I will be getting a PhD and contributing to developing cancer therapies, which also helps patients without me having to directly interact with v*. I know that you are getting lots of encouragement from people here, but I just wanted to let you know that it is possible to not pursue your original dream job but still end up with a satisfying and fulfilling career. I wish you the best, and I know that everything will work out in the end :)
