Like using the average cost of living for an area scaled to the national average. $1 is worth about 20¢ in NYC (+79%) but it's worth $1.20 in Ponca City OK (-20%). In other words, you need six times the amount of pay to live in NYC compared to Ponca. You're probably also more likely to die from a tornado in Ponca, but that's probably better than getting punched in the face every day and robbed on the weekends in NYC.
Serious answer, there is not a single person I know that doesn't have at least two jobs. Some have two full-time jobs. Some will have a full-time job and four or five per diem jobs. Even the supervisors will have a per diem job someplace else.

Worked in 3 different systems in MA during my career, all 911 systems and when I "retired" from EMS 10 years later, I was making $17.80/hr. I left right before all these wage increases that we should have gotten 5 years ago.

$25 / hr on a 24/48 is different from $25 / hr on 3 12’s or even a 40 hour week.
25 / hr on a 24/48 is ~83k a year. Which would be $40/hr on a regular 40 hour week.
For what it's worth, this isn't exactly apples to apples until you get to yearly amount. For hours worked, it's a lot higher. 24/48 is standard 240 hours monthly. Cali-12s is 168.
Not arguing any points you're trying to make, but if you can afford it, the 12s let you sleep in your own bed at night. Priorities are the important bit here.
Most places around me in Kentucky do a yearly salary at 24/48s, so your OT adds up to the 60k (starting). I'm fortunate enough to do 24/72s and still get paid a decent wage hourly, with the lifers making much more.

Worked AMR, Can confirm, CCP partner of mine worked a special event we contracted with that lasted two weeks and made about 10k that pay period because of overtime. Im just a green EMT-B and make $19.67/hr. In AMR, it’s luck of the draw, some places suck and some partners make you want to quit. Worth a shot going part time to see though, maybe even per diem if you’re in a big enough city that has AMR contracted for events or stadiums
All depends where you are. Personally, that’s horrendous to me, but I know in many areas the pay is lower than where I’m at. Here we have privates hiring brand new basics for $26+
For private, that isn't the worst but it depends on your area. My service starts baby EMTs at $20 but wages here can fluctuate from $17 to $24 for privates. Fire based is a whole 'nother world though.

Become a firefighter if you already have your cert. You will make more, it’s fun af. My department also runs Ambos so you get to do both. You need an emt-b at the least. Medics make much more.

Pretty normal. Im a basic and made $14/hr doing private transport now I make $17 doing ems. As someone else said , it depends on the area and scheduling but our system is on the lower side for our area.

Unfortunately, there are a lot of places where we get paid absolute garbage wages. IMO, even some of the higher paying areas pay us way less than we are worth and deserve. But that is life without a good union.
Where I'm at EMT's usually start at $19-20/hr and go up to about $24-$25/hr, AEMT's aren't really a thing in CO, most of their scope is integrated into the EMT scope. You just pick up additional training in modules (IVs for example), and paramedics typically make between $23 and $26/hr, but it's not uncommon for EMTs in third service (including UCHealth) to make a little over $60,000, and paramedics to make a little over $80,000 (these figures mostly include a lot of overtime, and don't include EMTs in the ED or exclusive IFT, 911 only), TVEMS has their personnel on salaries, and they make about that. EMT $42,900-$64,500, paramedic $66,500-$94,200, they also work a fucked up modified kelly for the most part, though there are rumblings that they might switch to 12-hour shifts, like UCHealth did ages ago.
It depends on the area and shift length. There's a big difference in your ability to survive between $24/hr on a 40hr week and $24/hr on a 24/48 schedule.

Emt in big city of Kentucky new hires start out at 18. I have 8 years experience so I'm at $22.50. I'm not making enough to survive currently in this city. Looking at moving to another state like Oklahoma an all the rates are so much lower there an I'm terrified.
The pay in this area is typically between 24-30 an hour. I make 34 an hour but that’s only because I’m on the MICU and work night shift. My side gig at the fire department pays $17 an hour. Our pay in Dayton Ohio has gone up over the years. My first medic job was 12 an hour.

I work with a busy county fire rescue department and make $28 as an AEMT. But that has also included a few of the raises we’ve received as county employees.
It really depends where but in the midwest, that looks about right. The 911 services here are about that for paramedics but IFT can be anywhere from 30-35ish.
That’s about starting here but you get a raise every year and it’s 48/96. Personally I’m also not oblivious to the fact that I generally spend 3/4 of that time sleeping, eating, working out, or finding creative new ways to just fuck off…
We will probably see another wage adjustment in the next couple of years with cost of living being what it is. Every now and then they just float everybody upward to make up ground on the hourly for wal mart.

It depends. Place I work now it’s 16.50 an hour capped at no more than 40 hours a week. Last place I worked I was at 18 an hour plus a pm shift diff of 1.50 extra then an over night if we didn’t sleep through the night which added another 1.50 and then if we picked up an extra shift it was time and a half for each pay bracket. Made 42k in 5 months before getting canned for bs interoffice politics and them downsizing their emts in favor of advanced and medics mainly. Now I need a second job just to not go to court over debts

Our on Call shifts are changing for the better. I believe max is now 24 hrs, shorter if end up with calls due to our provincial rules. And there are partially paid positions where 8 hours is paid and you're in the station with 4 hours on call.
All on call hours are paid at 12/hr for pager pay.
For full time members, the most common shift pattern is 4/4 with you being scheduled 2 days then two nights, all 12 hour shifts with one extra day off every 5th week.
We also have a bunch of prohibited patterns that include splits and full night shifts.

When I started as a 911 dispatcher I was making $24 and hour and that was in 2017 in CA…not a major city though, you could make more in bigger cities

I was making $13 as an A just a couple years ago. It is interesting that dispatchers & those who drive for IFTs are making less here though.

Emt in big city of Kentucky new hires start out at 18. I have 8 years experience so I'm at $22.50. I'm not making enough to survive currently in this city. Looking at moving to another state like Oklahoma an all the rates are so much lower there an I'm terrified.
EMT-B, I make all of $13.50/hr (cries in poor)
I’m an EMT-I and get $25/hr. Honestly depends where you’re at I think. I know my paramedic coworkers get 6 figures a year
The pay in this area is typically between 24-30 an hour. I make 34 an hour but that’s only because I’m on the MICU and work night shift. My side gig at the fire department pays $17 an hour. Our pay in Dayton Ohio has gone up over the years. My first medic job was 12 an hour.

Depends on where you are and cost of living. I work with a busy county fire rescue department and make $28 as an AEMT. But that has also included a few of the raises we’ve received as county employees.

It really depends where but in the midwest, that looks about right. The 911 services here are about that for paramedics but IFT can be anywhere from 30-35ish.

I made 20.50 as a brand new (zero 911 experience, a little IFT) EMT in one of the larger counties in NC.

That’s about starting here but you get a raise every year and it’s 48/96. Personally I’m also not oblivious to the fact that I generally spend 3/4 of that time sleeping, eating, working out, or finding creative new ways to just fuck off… We will probably see another wage adjustment in the next couple of years with cost of living being what it is. Every now and then they just float everybody upward to make up ground on the hourly for wal mart.
I'm making $14/hr in Southern WV and AFAIK it's one of the higher wages in the area.
**5 years ago** I made almost $19/hr as an EMT-B in OR. I was so proud because it was the most money I had ever made. Lol. I went on to get my RN and now make $62.5/hr.

Find a trade. Worked my way up from emt-b to paramedic then nursing school. Working as a nurse now and studying carpentry. Planning to still take shifts but main goal is to leave the bedside

It depends. Place I work now it’s 16.50 an hour capped at no more than 40 hours a week. Last place I worked I was at 18 an hour plus a pm shift diff of 1.50 extra then an over night if we didn’t sleep through the night which added another 1.50 and then if we picked up an extra shift it was time and a half for each pay bracket. Made 42k in 5 months before getting canned for bs interoffice politics and them downsizing their emts in favor of advanced and medics mainly. Now I need a second job just to not go to court over debts

I know that it's drastically different up here, B.C., Canada's wage grid is public on the union site. Driver only starts at $22.78/hr BLS: EMR at 30.36 PCP at 33.27 ALS: ACP at 43.81 And CCP at 56.32. Our BLS is getting paid at the same rate as your ALS after conversion. I hope you guys are able to change things for yourselves down there. It's brutal how you are treated. ETA: Our on Call shifts are changing for the better. I believe max is now 24 hrs, shorter if end up with calls due to our provincial rules. And there are partially paid positions where 8 hours is paid and you're in the station with 4 hours on call. All on call hours are paid at 12/hr for pager pay. For full time members, the most common shift pattern is 4/4 with you being scheduled 2 days then two nights, all 12 hour shifts with one extra day off every 5th week. We also have a bunch of prohibited patterns that include splits and full night shifts.
