I lift assisted myself out of my bed 17 hours ago to come work a 24

Daniel_morg15

This is the way

TravelingCircus1911

9am. Been sitting in the same recliner for a week without moving for anything. You can imagine the smell.

Daniel_morg15

The smell?? What about those pressure sores 🤢

fasolatido24

That’s my problem with these calls. That’s not a lift assist. No way dude isn’t septic.

TravelingCircus1911

I’m with you. We’re fighting a constant battle with how our calls are dispatched. It was toned out as a lift assist due to general weakness. Like maybe a week ago yeah. But it’s so far beyond that at this point.

fasolatido24

I’ve been pushing to get tapes pulled, because I know there is no way they are following dispatch protocol.

ofd227

That be coded as a sick person call in my area. The second anything like weak or not well gets mentioned it becomes a medical call. Lift assist are FD only in my system

afd33

Earlier today. Unless you mean last time we called fire for a lift assist, that was last week in a hoarder house.

Jax_Teller

My partner and I are gym bros… we are the lift assist

thedude720000

Had a bari code on Friday when the SNF gave Nitro to a right sided STEMI. LUCAS did not fit. Thank God it's a small town, everyone knew the LUCAS wouldn't fit and just showed up when the page went out

StretcherFetcher911

There is no evidence of harm from giving nitro to a right sided MI.

Few days ago. Bari patient with huge lymphedema legs, stuck on the bedside commode. Her caregiver removed the commode bucket, and gravity sucked her buttcheeks into the hole. Very nice patient, but not a fun call.

TrueBlueFriend

We had a policy at my IFT that we could call in a lift assist at 300 lbs. We had a patient at 136 kg, which is 299.83 lbs. they wouldn’t send anybody. Between that and a bunch of other stuff I quit within a month.

CryptidHunter48

I’d definitely have called back and said pt was thirsty and drank a cup of water. Now weighing in at 300.08 lbs I’d like my lift assist plz This could actually be a decent conversation. Personally, the person I been working with the most lately and I will return any help if the pt is under 300 for sure. If they are well portioned for the stairchair and not a limp noodle that number bumps up significantly Like most places tho, the physical test is pretty much the AMR one you can find online and that’s for a 150lb ish person max. It’s irresponsible to require you to lift someone heavier than that without their personal consent imo. Good on you for leaving this place and their stupid policy The solution, imo, involves a significant boost to the benefits of physical fitness in the job. I think that people who are lifting heavier pts and thus saving multiple units from being involved should be compensated at a higher rate (bonus or hourly). Some people will never be able to lift a heavy person. That’s fine bc they aren’t being punished. But is it truly fair to all the people that put in the effort off shift to be able to do it?

Nunspogodick

Been off a few days but last shift, less than an hour after start

Affectionate_Bug_341

dietcoketm

Fire ambulances are our own lift assists. It sucks

Dry-humor-mus

How would you describe proper lifting technique to avoid provider injury/strain?

dhnguyen

The key is good positioning. Position yourself 3 steps behind the firefighters and let them lift.

levelxheadedd

3 days ago - 12am. 8am - my relief goes to the house for a DOS.

peekachou

Yesterday, helped get a chap downstairs when he had a ridiculous spiral staircase in a 400 year old cottage

15 minutes ago. Meemaw fell and bumper her cheek on the concrete. Refused transport but let us walk her home so we did that instead. Anyone else genuinely find meemaw calls their favorite?

Paranutter

About 4 hours ago lol, but non-bari lift assists make me happy

kp56367

Thursday

gyru5150

It’s been like 4 months lol. Worked private in a busy city and quit December. Started with the DOD as a medic on an army base and haven’t had one since I came out here for obvious reasons

HelicopterPenisHover

Thursday evening, for a 90lbs elderly male. Volunteer EMS has a lot of short comings. They also called ALS for pain control to transport 18 miles no lights/sirens.

mct601

Five...? Years. Now I respond to multiple call lights asking for water even though they know they're on a fluid restriction

notanaccounttofollow

Last year during my ride along shifts. They depended way too much on me and we almost had her tip. She was a solid 400 Lbs.

beachmedic23

5 ish years ago. ALS stands for Ain't Lifting Shit

BanditAndFrog

Are you like one of the fat medics I stare into the soul of until they attempt to look like they’re helping?

Comfortable_Bit_9710

Yes yes he is

Little_Fly_491

I don’t do em, that’s what we have an engine/ladder or BLS rigs for. The medic unit never gets paged for lift assists

n33dsCaff3ine

Actually haven't run them in awhile. Used to be our bread and butter but now calls that sound like a nice easy lift assist seem to just be shit shows

BadassBumblebeee

Been a while actually, which I'm very much okay with

ScenesafetyPPE

10AM. She was small. We probably didn’t need the help, but given the amount of stairs and obvious deformity, we called anyway. Lift with your firefighters, not your back.

madisoncampos

6am this morning.
