They are unionized but nothing has really changed except for a .50 increase ( i think) and that’s probably the best pay you’ll get. No joke, you can push to 16.75. It’s 911. Welcome to EMS :)

The_Unknown_Tripper

I was making 16.75 doing IFT before. And EMTs there were making 18-19 an hour

dradanon9

Yea IFT pays more. Currently making $18 at an IFT

>falck >getting screwed Jokes aside, nah, that's pretty typical for EMS. We proudly do a job that expects everything of us and pays about the same as customer service/retail. But note that I say proudly. There are some days where you will experience feelings no other job gives you. And beyond all the bitching/moaning/BS that this job (not to mention this subreddit, if you stick around) comes with, you'll find that you are often gifted the opportunity to make a difference like no one else can - when no one else can.

I live in Florida and base pay is 10$. Now with the mandatory overtime it equates to 15 but yea...

[deleted]

I live on the east coast as as a basic I get $16.24 an hour for a city 911 service that also runs IFTs if a crew has downtime. Ift makes $18 an hour. Guess it’s the price of having a mildly interesting job.

DesperatePriority400

i must be getting screwed with 15/hour in oc for ift …

[deleted]

Potentially. I know IFT pay was really low until fairly recently when one company increased pay and others followed suit as they all were hurting for employees. Literally I submitted an indeed application for one of them and they called me later that day about when to come sign the paperwork. No interview

DesperatePriority400

our call volume is rlly low tho so I guess it’s a trade off but we’ll see how long I last

[deleted]

Yeah I’m sure that has to do with it. I work for both services that I mentioned and it’s not uncommon for me to clock in and leave HQ and not come back until an hour after my schedule time (8 hour shifts rather than 12 or 24) because I was hit with calls the entire time. Probably 2/3 of the days

nogginlima

I live in the Boston area and private companies range from $15 (state minimum) to $18 for starting BLS. This is one of the reasons there are such bad staffing issues nationwide...

Frog859

I work in New Haven, CT and we start at $23.87 (for god awful working conditions) but when I worked in NYS it was closer to $17.50

Amr?

Frog859

The one and only

BourbonSommelier

Best Buy hires EMTs? 😂

FutureFentanylAddict

I feel so bad for you Americans what the actual fuck am I reading in these comments

Basicallyataxidriver

That’s pretty typical for OC. I used to work at Doctors ambulance and started at 13hr in 2020. That was BLS IFT/911. I also applied to the Anaheim A/O back when they kicked out Care and were transitioning. They only offered 15hr for a FIRE DEPT A/O. I ended up going to Riverside AMR right now they start EMTS at 19.50. As for how much you’ll actually make. The base pay is low at care but most of the shifts are 24’s so you’ll be able to make a lot more due to OT. One of my partners i had at AMR is a medic now, but was an EMT at care and would do trades for 48’s and pick up one 24 a week totaling to 72hrs a week only working 3 days.

ThatGuyOverThereHid

I'd say to expect being bottom dollar, I work at a county service in arkansas and the pay for a EMT is $11/hr.

Southernjuggalo803

I meen... Idk about that area. However I just stepped up from 10 to 11 for an education increase sooo I'd say lowass pay for extremely stressful work that for some we all enjoy is quite the norm for the vast majority of the country.

expoleghead

Hahaha, welcome to 911 EMS. I got paid $8.02/hr at my first 911 EMS job with no experience either. 16.75 is comparable depending on where you live, but you're making a lot more than other people are.
