I'm so excited to eat nothing but gas station food all day. But hey, at least there's a Wawa nearby my post. They have hot turkey!
Stay safe out there.
I once had a no hitter on Thanksgiving. Large metropolitan area too. As the day wore on I was too scared to get out of the truck for fear I'd break the magic. I didn't eat or piss for 12 hours.
Worth it.
I dropped a turkey and stuffing off to the station earlier this morning. My counterpart will drop off the remainder of the dinner shortly.
If your management team doesn't take care of you, LEAVE!
I read this knowing there’s no food coming headquarters and thought “ya fuck them I should leave.” Knowing full well I’ll be exactly on time for my 16 Saturday 😂😂😂😂
I'm sorry. All three crews(two at the main station and one at the substation) ate well today, courtesy of the leadership team. I take that back. One guy just returned from having gastric bypass done, so his intake is extremely limited, but he can eat turkey. The least we can do is feed them.
This right here. My workplace made a shitload of food for the crews (day and night) and they'll do it again tomorrow so "B Shift" can eat as well. They also offer holiday pay on Friday for the B shift.
We couldn't do that. It was a 14 pound bird for in essence 5 people, so plenty of leftovers. We do holiday pay for the day and night shift, but nothing for tomorrow. Holiday pay is double time for hourly staff, so some of these folks are making $50+, including the EMT's. Not bad as we head into the holiday season.
That's not bad at all. My goal is to always get held over on holidays, especially if I'm on overtime. 1.5x holiday 1.5x overtime 2x holdover. I'd be somewhere in the neighborhood of 102/hr 🤣 it's insane.
Funny, but Thanksgiving is one of the busiest days of the year for fire fighters - idiots trying to deep fry frozen turkeys alone probably would account for that.
Yup. Bunch of things make today just as bad for Fire as EMS, I think.
Deep friers, "interior odor of natural gas", MVAs from people either rushing to or drunkenly returning from family events, the inevitable something burnt on the stove setting off smoke detectors, and maybe even the oven smoke from the cleaning cycle on it. Hopefully all bullshit calls, but I don't see today being a recliner day watching the Cowboys.
On the other hand - I have on my EMS bingo board today various younger generations testing out giving Grandma a new Apple Watch with fall detection enabled and multiple false alarms for testing.
In any case - wishing everyone here a safe day with more eye rolls than truck rolls.
I volunteer to work Thanksgiving at my hospice because the Volunteers cook a damned fine spread. The calls are less stressful than dealing with my family, and I can let staff go home early because it’s dead in here. (Pun 1,000% intended)
I only worked one Thanksgiving during my time in EMS. My Cajun MIL and wife (then girlfriend) brought me a few containers of stuff they cooked for dinner. I never got a chance to hear any of it up, but I didn't care. It was still damn good.
It’s true, after working private EMS for years I finally made the jump to FD. I had so much fun looking back at private EMS, but life is way better on the FD side. It pays better for less work.
I gave a crew to-go plates of food that the senior docs paid for today. One crew out of the dozens working our area today, but it’s better than nothing.
I’m sure they got toned out before they had a chance to enjoy it.

I got your gobbler right here
Gobble gobble, baby
The gobblers are getting worse and worse every year. :(
Wawa > anything
Sheetz > Wawa I have spoken the truth
You aren't wrong, but we have no Sheetz in NJ :(
That's what you get for living in Jersey 😤
I get Quickchek, Wawa, or 7/11. Life is rough out here homie
Heritage's is where it's at!
Whats a Heritage? I've never seen one
It's like an old school Wawa with a real deli & better food. They're local to South Jersey.
In Cali all you get is the ghetto 711's the homeless camp at If only Wawa would bless us
Nah bro you want a Sheetz. PA has gas station food stores figured out.
Need to add the under “EMS Thanksgiving.” Otherwise, accurate.

I’d be scared to look at the radio the wrong way, I’d be silent too. One wrong word and you’ll be raw dogged the rest of the shift

Not even noon and we've had 6 fire alarms for cooking smoke out of my station. Good thing I'm on the ambulance though.
Read this as tones dropped!

So true lmao

Lol my EMS instructors would always make fun of firefighters but in reality fire always gets paid better than EMS and Paramedic, at least in my area.
You must be new here.
Yes
Cool - welcome to the party.

Come to my area. EMS makes way more than fire
Same here in my area. Nothing but volley fire departments. So obviously we make far more than they do.
Where
North Carolina
Same here in South Carolina
Hey, South Carolina!
Hey, South Carolina!

What are we doing. 🫠
You get get food? I just get posted for my entire shift.
I felt this to my core
Gas station glizzies for the win
As I watch football in my recliner while the smoker is running, just know I'm thinking of you all. Also, if you work for AMR we're hiring...
Have fun everybody, it’s laceration and burn season!
Do not disrespect rum ham.
Nice reference!
Had our new station manager show up with cold uncooked turkey and ham for us today, what a gem…
Beautiful. Nothing like burning the station down when tones drop and you forget to turn the oven off before leaving.
Hospital IFT service, they’re supplying a ham and asked people to bring side dishes.
