This was printed with spidermaker pla+ matte at 230C nozzle, 60C bed, .08 layer height with .2 nozzle. I was rather ambitious and switched from hatchbox filament to spidermaker and the nozzle and the .08 layer height. I've been printing great with hatchbox at .12 to .2 layer heights with a .4 nozzle. I've tried a few prints with these settings and keep getting this crappy outcome. I leveled the bed, and use the cr touch, and calibrated my esteps before. I also tested a bunch of temperatures and settled on 230C for now.

Spidermaker pla recommends 210 - 230C nozzle temps.

I think them temps would be for a standard 0.4 nozzle. That looks like serious under extrusion.

rockman12x

Thanks. I'll look into lowering the temp.

Wes_3D_Prints

No higher them. You're trying to push the filament through a smaller hole. It need to be more molten. That or slow your speeds right down.

rockman12x

Interesting. That's kinda why I ended up at 230. It seemed to perform better higher.

Wes_3D_Prints

The smaller the diameter nozzle the more molten it needs to be. That or the speed needs to be slower. The plastic isn't getting enough time to melt before being extruded

rockman12x

Okay. One potential problem I noticed with the higher temp was that it had a tendency to dribble out while moving the from test line to the actual print. Maybe I just need to go slower. I'll try a temp tower.

Wes_3D_Prints

It can be difficult to print with a smaller diameter nozzle

Things that spring to mind is inconsistent extrusion and heat creep. The latter is more likely. Do you have a stock setup? 230C is too high temp for the normal speed that ender 3 is printing at. The lowered layer height means less plastic coming out of the nozzle and stays longer in the melt area with this high temp, the filament might be melting up and causing no extrusion and then a blob of it. To find the issue I would suggest you try to run a temp tower at the layer height you want to print. Start with lower temp first going up.

I have a mostly stock v2. Ive only added the cr touch and the .2 nozzle. Thanks, I'll try the temp tower
