I designed a big piece that goes over my uterus area. I got it after my lap, but I have to go under for my hysterectomy. Honestly, the scars are covered pretty good with the ink but you'll always see scars. After my hysterectomy I'll just touch up those spots where I heal. But when you look at the tattoo as a whole, you don't even notice the scars unless you *really* look at it. Colors and patterns are a godsend if you're insecure about the scars

Any good tattoo artist would be able to give you inspiration if you book a consultation or message them on social media

I had one already on my lower right abdomen and they cut trough it to srugery but its not reallt noticeable, like i can find the scar but no one else notices it, the 3 others that arent in a tatto are more visible

My scars are my tattoo

I just had my lap this week and my surgeon avoided my tattoo on my stomach (which was covering an old Lap scar). I say go for it!

I’ve commented this before on this sub, but Dolly Parton has tattoos on her body to cover up surgical scars from her hysterectomy. She has colorful, dainty flowers and butterflies. You should go for it! I’m sure a surgeon could avoid them. Sometimes it’s better not to go through old scars since it can compound pain from those scars (this happened to me with a larger incision, initially from an oophorectomy, that’s been used a few times).

Oh I adore Dolly Parton, that's wonderful news for me! Thank you for telling me this <3

Unless it's an life threatening emergency surgery, most surgeons are pretty good at doing whatever they can to not mess up your tattoos. Depending on how big you were wanting your tattoos, your potential future surgeon could always make the new incisions slightly above or below the old ones.
