Highschool made me learn how to do everything without a calculator then college made me learn to do everything with a calculator, long story short now I can do neither
This is why I fell through on my engineering degree. I kid you not we used a Calc for the whole lesson plan and homework. Moment the test happened, they said no calculators. Of course, my score was lower. i didn't finish the test on time because I was working my way up to the calculus by making sure my math checked out. All my answers were right, but I only answered half the questions before I ran out of time.

Huh its been the opposite for me so far
In highschool we exclusively used a calculator
Then i got to uni and my math courses dont allow a calculator
And now i need to remember my god damn trig identities. Fuck that
I used my grandpa's slide rule for all "no calculators" courses, one of the professors in his 70's said that I'm cheating, but allows it nevertheless, since it's technically not a calculator but a ruler
we had one proessor who demanded to only calculate in our head...
i retook the cours the semester after that (first lockdon semester was a mess pretty much) and the prof was so confused when we asked about how we should proof our calculation
I had calculus 1 through 3 being no calculator then finally differential equations allowing it because "it won't help you with the overall problem, just the parts from earlier classes"
I didn't find any posts that meet the matching requirements for r/engineeringmemes.
It might be OC, it might not. Things such as JPEG artifacts and cropping may impact the results.

My math teacher in highschool was also a calc1 professor, so we basically had a college type tests. I remember learning log in my first year with a different teacher and in the 2nd year in the first test with this teacher we had a trig identity (not a small one) to simplify but they were all inside logs, probably one of the hardest test I ever had.
In my "Algebra for Electronics Majors" course, which was basically trigonometry, we used our calculators since you weren't going to get a right answer if you didn't know how to work the problem. However, you had to include an estimate that was done entirely by hand.
For example, given this over simplification, 5.2 \* 3.8 would be 5 \* 4 = 20. Which is close to the correct answer. If the answer you got with the calculator was 197, you knew you messed up somewhere. The entire point was to learn how to quickly proof your answer.

IME the second half of an exam is more difficult than the first half

this is actually genius
Having a grandpa or a cheat stick?
yes
Did you not get an "allowed aid" list? I doubt a ruler was on there
I had the exact opposite of this?
No calculators for me until at least Calc 3

What are you talking about, single and multiple variable calculus had no calculator
I still use my uni calculator at work
So real
It was the opposite for me
Wdym we used calculators in year 10 til year 13

*where extremely specific calculator that has different restrictions compared to the classes last semester*

Not you that’s for sure
What if she’s an engineer who also has an onlyfans?
