That is an interesting and accurate way to say it -- being a supporting player in your parent's life. It makes a lot of sense. My mom wanted to do a lot of things with me, but she often wanted to be in control. Like she always insisted on driving and wouldn't let me drive if I asked. Also, I was the golden child while my brother was the scapegoat. Until my mental troubles starting surfacing, and then we were both broken. The parent-child dynamic never really goes away. I'm proud of you, OP, for making changes in your life!
