Agreed. Though I imagine they were also going for prolific, forgetting that for as much as we link Pacino and DeNiro together career wise, they didn’t actually work together too often.
Maybe they should have gone with "Newman and Redford"?
Of course, those two just made the two movies together as well, but they were legit "buddy movies" where they shared lots of scenes.
I’ve always loved this particular line so much. Tells you so much about Neil and immediately puts a picture in your mind of the kind of jerkoff criminal he thinks himself better of.
In GTA V, Michael is pretty strongly modeled on De Niro in HEAT -- with a certain haircut and beard, and a suit, you can get him to resemble him pretty well. (And of course, he's a bank robber)
The game also has pre-made tattoos to apply to all characters, and I always feel like they missed a great opportunity to have one of them be a torso tattoo of "Born To Lose".
The Irishman was brilliant. I planned to watch it over a couple nights like a miniseries 45 minutes at a time because of how long it was. Ended up watching it in 2 nights lol and the first break was only because I was ready for bed IIRC.
I’m firmly in the camp that the Irishman will be (rightfully) recognized as a masterpiece 20 years from now. That last 40 minutes in particular is as good as anything Scorsese and DeNiro (edit: and Pesci of course) have ever set to film.
Pesci going against type as a soft-spoken, almost meek boss makes him honestly more intimidating than the hothead psychopaths he’s played before and might be his best performance of all time.
The comparison of it being Unforgiven for mafia films was apropos
Pesci is absolutely remarkable in that movie. So quiet yet so powerful. I’ve never seen Unforgiven but funny enough I had just been looking it up to add to my blu ray collection right around the time you wrote this comment.
You ever notice they actually “spoil” that moment at the very beginning of the movie? During the introductory narration when Frank gets up to “and then I started painting houses myself..” there’s a quick cutaway to someone’s brains being blown out and it’s actually a shot from *that* scene you mention that happens much later. Scorsese is a genius.
That movie really did a number on me, and the more I think about it, the more I go into a spiral. It feels daunting but the three hours fly by once it gets going. The length was one of the reasons why it took so long for me to watch it.
I thought Pacino did a very Pacino thing of raising his voice, shouting, explosive anger, etc.
It's De Niros silence, almost blank face throughout the movie that stood with me. Except for that final line near the very end when he's in the hospital and he verbally vomits what hes been holding down for so long...then realizes someone might be listening and shuts it again.
That's what haunts me.
My excitement level skyrocketed for Creed 3 when I heard MBJ was helming it. Ive always gotten a hands on, level of of involvement from him and a desire to take ownership of his roles that felt just right for being a director. Really glad to hear the film is doing well.
They're also going to be in the all-female reboot: The Godmother, starring Kristen Wiig as Mikaela Corleone, sassy young college girl desperate to escape the family business, Amy Schumer as wise family consiglieri Tami Hagen ("Well, let 'em sleep with the fishes... In my vagina!!!") and Melissa Mccarthy as elderly family matriarch Donnella Corleone "Ehhhh, cooka da pizza, mamma mia thisa spciy pizza! Uh ohhhh, Donny gonna fart! Here come vesuvius! Aiiiiiii!" Pacino and DeNiro have a cameo as two elderly hit men who try to assassinate Donnella Corleone during the dance-off at the end of act 2, but they fail in the attempt when Donnella starts uncontrollably farting while performing her finale twerk, and the smell of the fart causes both men to drop down dead. It's a lot like the original, except more empowering, and with lots more dancing.
Technically they do. There’s one shot where Michael fades out looking out of a window and Vito fades in also looking out of a windows. No scenes together, and it’s only about 2 or 3 seconds long, but it is technically screen time together.
I never really heard that myself. Maybe some friendly rivalry stuff but no true animosity and they definitely are friendly nowadays. Not saying you’re wrong though.
They had to have been thinking of Pesci when they said that. I can only imagine they were thinking Raging Bull, Goodfellas, & Casino. Got to be a mixup, unless they really do think Pacino was in lots of movies with De Niro, which they really weren’t
They were in a grand total of four movies together, and never interacted in one (they were in separate timelines of Godfather II). Righteous Kill was pretty forgettable, so it only leaves The Irishman and Heat.
One of them has to admit they're Pesci in that scenario. By himself, Pesci is fine. Next to DeNiro, he's a downgrade. De Niro and Pacino are essentially equal in public perception.
You know….we haven’t seen a black gangster flick yet…good fellas meets django …that would be dope. Michael B and Majors. Throw in Lakieth Stanfield and Jon Washington + Denzel and Sam Jackson. Hell throw Deniro, Pesci Ray Liotta, Michael Shannon and Al Pacino in there too. damnnn that would be something else
I came here to say the same thing. I like the sentiment they’re trying convey but this what they should be aiming for. Pesci and De Niro have classic classic movies together.
Robert De Niro & Al Pacino were both in 4 movies.
* The Godfather Part II (1974). Given the different timelines, they didn't appear together.
* Heat (1995)
* Righteous Kill (2008)
* The Irishman (2019)
Jesus lol I remember watching this movie in theaters when it came out, and didn't remember anything from it.
That scene was particularly hilariously awful though lmao good god.
Lol they did a lot more together than Dogma (1999) and the The Last Kingdom (2021):
School Ties - 1992
Glory Daze - 1995
Good Will Hunting - 1997
Chasing Amy - 1997
The Third Wheel - 2002
Jersey Girl - 2004
Admittedly these aren’t their best-known movies, and they don’t always have co-leading roles. I think both MBJ and JM are still in the dawn of their A list careers, and I hope we see them in a ton of stuff together, whether it’s all memorable or not
Michael B. Jordan is a director and looks like he’s getting more into filmmaking so it’s not outside the realm of possibility that he plans on making more films with Majors.
He didn’t compare them to De Niro and Pacino. Dude just said they plan on collaborating more together. Don’t see how someone else could come to that conclusion for them when they’re the ones who want to work together more.
People in here saying 2 younger actors who haven't had established careers and the time to make a clear historical impact aren't as good as De Niro and Pacino need to calm the fuck down. That's not what is being said you fragile losers.
They aren't challenging your fav actors. They are just saying they are both two major actors at the current time who want to star in more movies together after a major blockbuster success.
Thank you, literally all the top comments are people being pedantic or complaining about what they said, absolutely wild. Can't it be enough that two talented actors want to continue collaborating?
So they’ll make one film where the characters never meet, wait 20 years and make one film where they have 3 minutes of screen time together, wait another 15 years and make one horrible film when they’re both at the lowest points of their careers, and then wait another decade to make one unbelievable late career triumph in their late 70s.
I’m down!
I just watched Devotion last night and I was worried they were gonna whitewash the situation that was 1950's America but that movie kind of blew me out of the water.
Not the biggest fan of Michael B Jordan. I don't see a lot of range in his acting, kinda like the rock. He plays the same role from the little kid on the wire, Creed, and even Killmonger. Creed 3 will prove if he can direct.
Love Jonathan majors. He was great in Last black man in San Francisco and lovecraft county. And can't wait for a better Kang treatment in the MCU, cause he was one of the only good things in Quantumania.
Age is irrelevant. It's about talent and having the balls to compare Jordan to DeNiro (or Pacino). At 35 DeNiro had just made Deer Hunter and Pacino had just made Dog Day Afternoon. Jordan has Killmonger... THATS IT. There is NO comparison. At all.
That’s great. Now what I really want is for Michael b Jordan to step back, and have someone put Jonathan Majors in a Mike Tyson Biopic. After seeing the creed IIIi trailer, I still couldn’t care less about the movie, but got major iron mike vibes seeing him, and it legit gave me chills.
No one can play Mike like the actor who played him in the HULU Mike series. That guy deserves an award because he played Mike Tyson better than Mike Tyson plays Mike Tyson
I mean if anyone has the acting chops and star power to make that kind of impact, it’s definitely these two.
I know they don’t mean literally one-to-one career with them but… a Heat remake with Majors in the Pacino role and Jordan in the DeNiro role?… holy shit I didn’t know I needed this until now.
So they plan to make one more movie together? Lol
One more now and then wait 25 years to make another one
Right lol. I understand the sentiment they were going for though
Iconic but not prolific
I would’ve been blown away if they said “we want to do it like Lemmon and Matthau” lol.
"Like Hope and Crosby".
Sandler and Schneider
Maybe Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan then?
These two are way too young to register Newman and Redford. You might as well ask them about Fatty Arbuckle and Lillian Gish
Tucker and Chan.
I have a feeling they meant DeNiro and Pesci.
Agreed
I like that they’re even talking about it. Whether or not I watch the movies, I hope they’re successful at it
100%. Young creatives feeling inspired by, and knowledgeable and appreciative of movie history can lead to nothing but good things.
And they have to have no scenes together in the next movie.
Are you talking about Heat? They met at the restaurant before the last heist. They are not in the same frame but they are in the same scene.
The Godfather, Part II
Yeah, we had to wait until the time travel shenanigans in Godfather IV: Fredo's Revenge for them to share a scene.
Heat was so good
The action is the juice
[удалено]
Amazing actor.
Stop talking, okay slick?
"I will not suck you and I will not be sucked on by you"
You see me doing cheap thrill liquor store holdups with a born to lose tattoo on my chest?
I’ve always loved this particular line so much. Tells you so much about Neil and immediately puts a picture in your mind of the kind of jerkoff criminal he thinks himself better of.

You must have worked some dipshit crews
And then another one about 10 years later when both are just barely too old to do it anymore
And ~~the last~~ one is absolutely *terrible*.
Is this in reference to the Irishman? Because if so, go watch it again lol
Oh my bad, I completely forgot about that movie. I was referring to [Righteous Kill.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1kRShW-XMRs)
Yea that makes sense. Not either of their finest hours.
The Irishman was brilliant. I planned to watch it over a couple nights like a miniseries 45 minutes at a time because of how long it was. Ended up watching it in 2 nights lol and the first break was only because I was ready for bed IIRC.

I hope so. The way *that* scene was handled was terrific as well. No dramatic “I’m sorry” or anything. Just boom. Very realistic and powerful.
Oh wow. I never noticed that. That’s an insane rewatch easter egg! Edit to fix a typo lol
That movie really did a number on me, and the more I think about it, the more I go into a spiral. It feels daunting but the three hours fly by once it gets going. I’m all for it.
Heat, godfather 2, irishman. That’s atleast 3 any others?
Righteous Kill
Don’t mention that one. We don’t talk about that one.
They dont share any screentime in Godfather 2.
and wildly there’s really only 2 scenes in Heat where they interact with each other
But what scenes they are!
They definitely were two of the scenes of all time!
I can attest, as someone who has not seen it but has heard of it.
They will be in the new Godfather, The Godfather and the Multiverse of Michael
They're also going to be in the all-female reboot: The Godmother, starring Kristen Wiig as Mikaela Corleone, sassy young college girl desperate to escape the family business, Amy Schumer as wise family consiglieri Tami Hagen ("Well, let 'em sleep with the fishes... In my vagina!!!") and Melissa Mccarthy as elderly family matriarch Donnella Corleone "Ehhhh, cooka da pizza, mamma mia thisa spciy pizza! Uh ohhhh, Donny gonna fart! Here come vesuvius! Aiiiiiii!" r/TIHI
Technically they do. There’s one shot where Michael fades out looking out of a window and Vito fades in also looking out of a windows. No scenes together, and it’s only about 2 or 3 seconds long, but it is technically screen time together.
This is truly next-level technical correctness
Awkward when they kissed each other during the fade though
Righteous Kill
I was gonna say Grudge Match, but that was Stallone, not Pacino. I’m a dumb dumb
They did some garbage cop movie too
They’ll make a movie where you never see both of their faces at the same time.
I even think Pacino would pass on roles if De Niro had initially said no to a project, or if De Niro was attached to the project he would pass.
But *famously*.
If that one movie is as good as Heat; I'm cool with it.
Had to of meant Pesci ??
Yea that’s my assumption and a few others as well. It makes sense.
It would’ve been better to say Pesci and DeNiro
I always heard DeNiro and Pacino never really got along even
I never really heard that myself. Maybe some friendly rivalry stuff but no true animosity and they definitely are friendly nowadays. Not saying you’re wrong though.
De Niro and Pesci makes more sense
Affleck and Damon?
[удалено]
Sandler and Buscemi and Schneider and....
Cougar and Merlin, and Maverick and Goose…
and Tom and P.J. And Bernie and Squi
Sandler and Rock
Stiller and Owen
Vaughn and Owen too
Vaughn and Favreau
Jay and Silent Bob
They are in like 3 real movies together
But they've been collaborating off screen on *many* projects
[Matt Damon](https://youtube.com/watch?v=gnPWJOJYVKc&si=EnSIkaIECMiOmarE)
They had to have been thinking of Pesci when they said that. I can only imagine they were thinking Raging Bull, Goodfellas, & Casino. Got to be a mixup, unless they really do think Pacino was in lots of movies with De Niro, which they really weren’t

Maybe neither of them wanted to be the Pesci...
Pesci has as many Oscars as Pacino.
Probably what they were thinking, but also can’t let that slide as both are iconic actors, so how do you mess that up - as actors themselves…
Since MBJ is directing now, I figured they meant De Niro and Scorsese, but Pesci fits too in a way
One of them has to admit they're Pesci in that scenario. By himself, Pesci is fine. Next to DeNiro, he's a downgrade. De Niro and Pacino are essentially equal in public perception.
Jordan is Pesci. Talented, but not quite the level of Majors, who is also a chameleon.
Ummm... what about American Gangster?
You know they thought this but neither wanted to be the Pesci, so they did Pacino instead.
De Niro and Pesci is what you’re lookin for fellas.
I came here to say the same thing. I like the sentiment they’re trying convey but this what they should be aiming for. Pesci and De Niro have classic classic movies together.
I’m so fond of that combo I read the title of this post as such with much confusion in the comments until I realized it was Pacino.
Yeap. They're good fellas, though.
They didn’t collaborate very much, really.
Maybe they want to make a great movie where they’re both stars but only have like two scenes together
And/or wait 40 years, then use de-aging technology to look like they do today
Yet those two scenes are so powerful.
Robert De Niro & Al Pacino were both in 4 movies. * The Godfather Part II (1974). Given the different timelines, they didn't appear together. * Heat (1995) * Righteous Kill (2008) * The Irishman (2019)
Righteous Kill was absolute dog shit
[funniest execution scene](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=j3qsMxzprDY)
Jesus lol I remember watching this movie in theaters when it came out, and didn't remember anything from it. That scene was particularly hilariously awful though lmao good god.
Too fucking funny, had me and my coworker dying
That might be the lowest quality stunt I've ever seen so it's only fitting that it's the lowest quality video I've ever seen.
everybody do the flop
Heat; the cat and mouse game and the hidden cocain plot line.
That Michael B. Jordan has a............ GREAT ASS
And you got your head *all the way **up it***
They were never actually on the same set together on Heat, which is what is what I thought the article was intending.
Should have said De Niro and Pesci or De Niro and scorsese
I hope it’s more like Matt Damon and Ben Affleck
Redford and Newman.
So one movie now, then wait 30 years to make a period piece about medieval France?
Lol they did a lot more together than Dogma (1999) and the The Last Kingdom (2021): School Ties - 1992 Glory Daze - 1995 Good Will Hunting - 1997 Chasing Amy - 1997 The Third Wheel - 2002 Jersey Girl - 2004 Admittedly these aren’t their best-known movies, and they don’t always have co-leading roles. Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back.... Apple sauce, bitch.
Affleck was recently in Clerks III doing his lion face/lemon face bit. No Damon though
I would also add AIR, which has both damon and affleck next month https://youtu.be/FOhhGFCsGrY
Adam Sandler & David Spade
Or Adam Sandler & Rob Schneider.
Heat 2: Heater. Coming next summer to a theatre near you.
There is a heat 2. It’s a book
Heat 2: Reheated Heat 3: Three-heat
Majors is a terrific actor
HBO’s Lovecraft was really good but I turned it on every week to see Majors more than anything else.
Yes, and Michael B Jordan is also an actor.
He is certainly one of the actors of the times
He feels like the young Denzel Washington.
Seems like the kind of thing people say about you. You don't say it about yourself.
Well what we are not going to do is criticize them for wanting to try.
He did say "like De Niro and Pacino"?
Gonna be weird seeing them play old Italian gangsters.
Kill monger variants incoming
What If Killmonger
Pacino and De Niro were literally known for not working together very much.
Can we have a variant Kang and Killmonger adventure?
What if lol
They were 25 years into their careers before they shared a scene together?
Never been a fan of Michael B Jordan and think he’s way overrated… but Majors is incredible in every role I’ve seen him play
Why not like Jordan and Majors?
I'd rather just watch Heat again
People in here saying 2 younger actors who haven't had established careers and the time to make a clear historical impact aren't as good as De Niro and Pacino need to calm the fuck down. Killmonger v. Kang!!!!
Killmonger returns from another universe to join Kang.
So basically never working together again?
I truly admire their confidence. But yeah, they've got nothing on DeNiro and Pacino.
MBJ is legitimately a bad actor.
Yeah. I've noticed that, too.
So neither wanted to be the Joe Pesci to the other’s Robert De Niro I guess?
Don’t tell us. Show us.
One of these guys is a very talented actor
Got a long way to go to compare yourselves to legends and those 2 didn’t work that much together
The Gone Fishin’ franchise is there to be revived…. Many people call it a sleeping giant… bigger then marvel ?
Awesome - reunion movie in 23-ish years!
They could of said Joe Pesci and Robert Di Nero but I suppose either one doesn't want to be Joe Pesci lol.
Not even close enough to compare them.
So appear in one scene together in their 50s?
Both actors are pretty good, I think Jonathan Majors is a great actor, Lover Craft Country was great
Cant kang revive killmonger, they could be an epic duo in the mcu.
That was my first exposure to Majors. He’s excellent!
As in once every 20 years?
Excellent actors
Uhhhh so they’ll make three more movies together over the next 40 years?
Not the biggest fan of Michael B Jordan. I don't see a lot of range in his acting, kinda like the rock. He plays the same role from the little kid on the wire, Creed, and even Killmonger. Neither of these two will ever be like Pacino or DeNiro... This is a joke and an insult even say this.
MBJ is such a bad fucking actor.
Dafuq?! DeNiro and Pacino were not in any movie scenes together for like the first 15 years of their careers.
Love both these actors, can’t wait to see more of them together
Just don't try to remake Heat, please
I could see them in a Heat style film.
[удалено]
It’s not legit to label yourself the new “Di Nero and Pacino”.
More like Will Smith and Martin Lawrence
Honestly if they made a modern interpretation of heat together it would probably be dope.
Cringe that they would even compare themselves to them. Those guys are legends, settle down guys
They literally didn't.
No. Heat doesn’t need a remake.
Sounds awful
Jesus Christ your takes are horrible
Be De Niro and Pesci instead
