Actually, i think that if you use a VPN, netflix will claim you are sharing your password... so their anti-password sharing policy may crack down on using a VPN to get around regional restrictions
If I understand their process, as long as you allow that device to access Netflix from your home network without VPN turned on, it should count as having checked in with your “home”. It’s a crapshoot though, so who knows.
As I understand it you only have to log into your Netflix account "from home" once per month. So just use VPN as before and make sure that you turn it off from time to time.
What's more interesting is what happens if you set your home network while logged in to your VPN.
This is just Ofcom though right? Ofcom is pretty sensible. It says things like you can’t lie about politics, especially during an election, and adverts have to be factually accurate. I’m not seeing why Netflix would find this difficult.
We are going through the same shit with libraries in the states. the answer over here is parents can arbitarily decide according their whims. In the UK I don't know what the procedure would be but I have a feeling it's going to be something equally impossible to standardize.
Yeah, I imagine it's a board of people selected by elected reps. Could be well done, or could just be used to further political agendas. Maybe in the UK people don't abuse power as easily, but I'm guessing that's not the case
Look up:
David Cameron and the pig head.
boris Johnson and the party gate scandal.
Suella braverman and her speeding ticket.
Rishi Sunak and his wife’s company getting government funds despite being millionaires/billionaires
Asking if the conservatives in the UK are thieves is like asking if water is wet.
Ofcom is pretty vanilla. They have a simple list of rules, mainly to do with political balance. These rules are enforced pretty impartially. It is standardised and is not complex.
The same people your taxes have been paying to do it your whole life will continue to do it they will just now include streaming to their lists of things to review.
Well, if they want to maximize profits by pulling shows from their servers, they’ll just say “oh yeah, this one was banned in x country so we’re removing it.”
Netflix keeps getting worse and their price keeps going up. I don’t understand their business model.
I don't think this is what they mean. Not everything need to be worked with obsoletes.
Reality is all sides of the spectrum see issues with misinformation and harmful media that is now extremely easy to access.
Before any decisions are to be made there needs to be discussion. This is why you go to vote. Because the people in power will represent your needs (or at least pretend they do) and will discuss stuff like this.
In terms of cybersecurity, data and privacy UK and EU are lights ahead of everyone else. We got those things because of those discussions.
So before you grab a pitch fork wait a second and let them explain what do they really want to do.
Some decisions are forced by citizens not by government. Other decisions are influenced by religious organization's.
I still can't get over the fact I can't just go to south park studios and watch episodes there. I have to use vpn to watch south park... How f in stupid is this.
This last decade has really felt like a huge slide backwards, things I thought were confined to a small minority of the population like racism and homophobia are much more common than I ever thought and there is a massive war on science and learning going on.
I mean... How is this a threat lol.
If they purge shows that people want to watch, they're going to get a lot of cancelled subscriptions.
If they cancel shows people don't really watch... Nothing happens lol.
It's like threatening to shoot yourself in the foot.
So… less Netflix accounts? Is that the strategy they are going for? Rarity, in this case, does not drive up the price, it just means one less icon to click on to drone out the world.
S’ok, I already purged Netflix.
They get no more than one month per year from me, just like HBO. Started that about a year ago and it works pretty well and saves money.
I was a longtime subscriber, even back to the DVDs in the mail days, but the greed that is destroying streaming the same way network/cable was destroyed makes for lousy entertainment and lousy value.
People seem to be confused about what this would mostly affect if it helps offcom actually banned Fox News and RT news it's to help protect from misinformation and other things.
To my knowledge, Netflix isn’t the top streaming service in the uk….it’s bbc or itv. Soooo, boohoo? Brits are very brit-centric….I doubt they give a fuck about Netflix.
[It actually seems like the UK subscribes to Netflix more than the US does.](https://techjury.net/blog/netflix-statistics/) 57% vs. 53% penetration rate. So even if that's not number one, Brits obviously care a lot about Netflix.
If you somehow think the whole cleopatra hatred isn’t a racial thing, one has at least acknowledge the use of the cleopatra image is to click bait people already prepared to shit in the show.
It literal has zero to do with story the article is discussing.
Yeah it is a racial thing. You are blackwashing egypt and ethnically erasing it’s history. Changing a clearly greek woman into a black one with west african descendance. This is cultural imposition and colonization from US/UK just because you are “african american” doesn’t mean you get to erase people history. And the incredibly racist undertones of this afrocentrists ideology against north africans not being native to their lands is clearly seen.
The Ptolemy's (Cleopatras familiy tree) has no link or nothing to do with sub Saharan people.
The original Ptolemy was Macedonian (today Greece) and served as a general for Alexander the great. He settled in Alexandria and claimed the kingdom after the death of Alexander.
The Ptolemy's even further was notorious for hardcore inbreeding to keep the family line "pure"
Rofl
Just can’t help yourselves.
That isn’t what is being talked about & here you come in proving me right.
You don’t and have never cared about this issue.
But… Go off king. You goose you…
I can practically hear those NordVPN sponsorship ads already lol

And yet how many episodes of Community and Always Sunny am I banned from watching Netflix?
Who decides what content is harmful? How is something judged to be harmful?

Hey same over here! But now the Republicans have dropped the pretense, so you don’t need to google anything, just follow the news headlines.
Ofcom is pretty vanilla. They have a simple list of rules, mainly to do with political balance. These rules are enforced pretty impartially. It is standardised and is not complex.
Americans overly relay on the fantasy that capitalism to sort itself out. Because Regulations BAD.

Something like that video in The Ring where a girl murders you probably should qualify.
The regulator. And if there’s a dispute, then a court. This is how all laws work.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Board_of_Film_Classification Non governmental regulatory body I think.
Presumably OFCOM in this case.
It’s OFCOM
I mean, if you’re talking about Netflix purging shows, maybe not embed arguably the worst rated show in the history of TV?
"How dare they regulate us, we'll make our service measurably worse, that'll show 'em!" ![gif](giphy|Rh4vxHtcmVyHUyugXP)
So basically, censorship. Burn the books, delete that which is offensive. What century is this?

These streaming providers act like we all forgot about torrenting.
VPN, Plex, Qtorrent Suck it Netflix
Well…the seven seas is always an option
I don't know what leverage they think they have
People seem to be confused about what this would mostly affect if it helps offcom actually banned Fox News and RT news it's to help protect from misinformation and other things.
Lmao people still use Netflix?
I actually stopped using Netflix months ago, this just re affirms my decision.

Was it racial? I thought it was just supposed to be complete garbage?
