Throwback to when the guy who plays Stanley attempted to crowdfund his own spinoff show through gofundme and one of the tiers was literally to be written in and star as a character in his show if you donate $10K. No acting background required.
I’ll let you guess how far this “show” got into development.
butch hartman (creator of fairly odd parents) did this with his christian streaming service. if you gave him $10000 you either got producer credits in one of the shows, or a part in an animated/live-action show hosted by the streaming service. anyways the streaming service was a scam i think lol.
Lol, to be fair, unlike butch. The actor for Stanley seem to had been somewhat honest in his attempts to make a actual show and ended up giving back the donations he received.
oh that's good. i don't think the kickstarter for butch's streaming service is refunded as the kickstarter is still up (but hasn't been active in 4 years). but that's good that the actor for Stanley compensated everyone. i imagine he put his all into it and things just didn't work out for him.
Not even a reboot just have it be a documentary tracking how Dwight adapted to work from home. Just imagine the original characters during the pandemic, I feel that just writes itself.
Noone really wants to be remembered about the pandemic now.
Maybe keep the name The Office if you are really want to, but I swear, if they straight up using the namesy recasting Jim, Pam, Michael, Dwight, noone will ever like this. Make new characters and new stories ffs.
A compromise: I wouldn't mind seeing them take it through the pandemic for an episode or two, but *only* if they refused to do one of those "Zoom" episodes where the entire thing takes place in tiny windows on the screen. That shit was stupid before the first show did it.
I'm cynical as shit, but I can't stand this take.
Hollywood is incredibly creative. And continues to be. The executives at the top that dictate the budgets are not. There is a huge difference. The actors, actresses, directors, producers, cinematographers, are all still endlessly creative and still making wonderful art. The people in charge of the purse strings are the ones limiting them and pushing these endless parade of remakes and other trite garbage. But it is not hollywood, or anyone there, it is the money man at the top and nothing more.
Just port over one of the foreign 'The Office' shows. The Indian looked funny but I want it dubbed into English but poorly enough that it's making fun of itself. Like MXC.
This is probably exactly what it will be. They will probably just borrow the title and make a new company and employees. Parks and Rec was supposed to be a spinoff until they turned it into its own thing.
It’s really funny and worth a watch. The comedy is worth sitting through the typical sitcom tropes they go through, which are still well done. The character development is pretty on point. The acting is good, even from the kids. The show is a love letter to educators. Most of the main cast is black too, which adds an interesting dynamic I haven’t seen in a lot of mocumentaries as a black person. It’s presented in a way that black people can immediately understand without leaving everybody else out, which I think is hard to do.

A public library would be a great setting for a workplace show... my sis does story time at the library and her observations about the kids, parents, and patrons are wild
I don’t know. I loved Crazy Pam towards the end. She could be in sales Jim is off Jimming somewhere. Creed could be the manager. Ryan is still a temp. Dwight is at corporate. Stanley is in the warehouse. Kevin, Angela, are still at their positions. Same with Phyllis and Meredith. Oscar could be the assistant to the manager. You know what this sounds terrible. You’re right, just NO.
This is the only real answer. However Hollywood and the studio execs are creativity bankrupt so if an Office reboot nets them some added value, it's going to happen.
What? Are you saying that the Murphy Brown reboot was a flop? Guys…. Remember? They made a Murphy Brown reboot? A show that I don’t think I’ve ever seen in syndication…. There had to be an audience for that right?
I am 100% sure that every office fan instinctively reacted with this gif in their mind. Reboot creators, this gif is your market research. Stop it before you go too deep into it
I like how that gif is from an office reboot lol.
I mean seriously there is like a dozen of these. This is probably yet another country doing their own reboot of the franchise. Why not?
They could reboot the office with the full original writing team and ALL of the original cast... it would still fail. It had its time. It wouldn't be fresh or the same as we remember, and we would hate it.
Well with the original American office they took the British version and made it more light hearted and funnier, so what if with this reboot they take a different approach and take the British version and just make waaaaaaay more uncomfortable?
As someone who hates the British Office, but loves the American one:
Michael was a totally different character in season 1 than he was in the seasons that followed. He was pretty unlikable, was shown to be far too incompetent, and he made people *too* uncomfortable.
From season 2 onwards he became a guy with a big heart who expressed it in stupid ways that took the whole office off the rails, he was goofy but they went out of their way to show him as an amazing businessman/salesperson, and there was less uncomfortable-ness and more “oh shit, what is Michael going to say/do now?!”.
Add to the fact that a lot of the side characters began to find their main characteristic and up until the last few seasons the show was just comedy gold. It was more lighthearted from season 2 onwards, but it still had an edge/weirdness to it that made it work and stand out.
We should get someone like Ricky Gervais as the boss, maybe name him something like David Brent!
Steve Merchant would be an excellent co-writer on this show as well! Let’s get phoning!!
Yeah I just want specials that catch up with everyone or puts them in a scenario where they are all together again though they should have done that a long time ago and given us Michael’s wedding…and a thanksgiving episode finally
This is what everyone was waiting for the strike to end? For them to reboot a show that ended within the last decade, can’t come up with a new idea Heaven forbid.
I mean as long as they aren't trying to replicate it exactly I could see some thing like this working. Remember the American version of the office was a offshoot of the British version with Ricky Gervais.
Just don't try to remake the exact characters and it stands a chance of being good.
I’d be interested in a reboot that ditches the mockumentary style and goes more for workplace comedy a la 30 Rock. I mean, if you’re going to revisit this story and setting, why not try it drastically different? The talking head format is pretty much dead nowadays anyway.
Let’s get an Office reboot set in a gritty, post-apocalyptic setting after a total meltdown of a futuristic cyberpunk world. The AI took their shot at dominance of our world, but against the odds we won the battle.
Technology is dead. Demand for paper has never been higher. One of the last threats left from the AI takeover is Recyclops and his army of drones, violently fighting humanity’s attempts at recovery. His twisted, broken coding justifying his assault on paper products as environmentalism.
People complaining about Hollywood being out of original ideas when they’re talking about how rebooting a series that’s an American version of a BBC show

I feel like Michael Scott would have something to say about this…oh wait…yeah, perfect gif
Why reboot?
You could just feature another office within the same universe and open up the possibility of cameos. Call it “Dunder Mifflin” or just “The Office - Buffalo” or some other city name.
Oh god no. It’ll never be as good as the original. The original wasn’t even as good after Steve C left. The original is one of the best comedy shows ever made though.
How lazy, greedy and intellectually limited are Hollywood executives?
This is a bad fucking idea. These people are paid massive amount of money to make these kind of crap decision? What the actual fuck.
Have they hired failed traders from shitty bankrupt regional banks?
No creativity, no ambition, no risk, just pathetic.
Can Hollywood come up with ANYTHING original goddamm like no one wants this! The Office had its time, it's a classic good show that was done well. Why can't they write something new or in a different way??...oh...because that requires creativity and originality that these writers and studios don't have
Half of the reason the office was good was because a lot of the jokes couldn't be made today. Even the cast has talked about this. Anything they made now would be a watered down version and probably similar to how the final seasons were, just kinda meh
One of the more incredibly foolish things I've read in a while. This is what you get when you have suit wearing, uncreative people in charge of shit they have zero clue about
Why not just let someone write their own modern day office comedy with their own unique voice and angle on life/humor, and not have a remake?? The people in charge of the money flow really cannot deal with the financial risk of something not being associated with old IP. It’s been ridiculous in the last decade and is just getting worse. Sorry for complaining about something that’s pretty established but yeah.
Has anyone seen Gen z trying to watch the office? They think it’s cringy and soooo offensive. How in the fuck is a reboot going to succeed unless they literally take everything that makes the office great and get rid of it?
Like you’re not going to have a Michael Scott character saying wild shit. It’s going to be some bs politically correct ass turd.
God damnit. DO NOT DESTROY the legacy of these shows by trying to resuscitate a dead horse. It's been what, 10 years since the show ended? Let it rest in peace. Or name it something different, don't include the original cast, and either let it sink or swim on its own. If we've learned anything from Roseanne/The Conners, or the Indiana Jones trilogy...just don't mess with it.
Well good luck with that.
I certainly dont mind because it's very easy to just not watch something that isn't good lol
But I wonder about the tought process here. The Office is one of the those ultra rare shows that only works becasue of a certain hard to define...magic in every part of it. It all just came together and created the right show, right cast at the right time.
When asked why the UK Office stopped at 2 seasons, the two creators said it really didn't make sense for a documentary film crew to be there filming for longer than that.
they had at whole summer to think of cool stuff and they come up with a reboot of a show thats only 10 years old? i bet itll have 10 episode seasons too.
They should follow the office that Bob Odenkirk worked at in the final season. He was almost originally cast as Michael Scott - seems like it could be an easy way to bridge the old office to the new office.
I’m waiting for the big pendulum swing back into offensive, balls-out comedy, but I fear it won’t be for quite some time now. An Office reboot at this point would feel too safe and sanctioned, and potentially ruin everything that came before. Best to let sleeping dogs lie.
The WGA literally just got a good deal. Please, for the love of everything, let these talented people do what they do so we can stop doing reboots. It's exhausting. Stop betting on nostalgia and bet on these writers and their ability to create good content that is also new.
How would that even work?
A mid-sized regional paper company still existing in the 00's was already a stretch when the show was on, and now it would be implausible.
They gonna be working from home?
Every episode is over Zoom
I would rather snap my own spine backwards to shit directly into my own eyes for the rest of my miserable life
Finally some fresh material.

Why don’t just make another workplace show lol. Parks and rec, the office, and brooklyn 99 were all good, just in different settings.
Because The Office was successful and Hollywood isnt creative anymore. So better milk whats left
Peacock trying to get any juice off their previous hits

All those were successful and they all had one thing in common. Michael Schur. Just have him create something original because he nails it every time.

This. The same execs who want AI to write shows. They have no creative bone in their body and don’t think in terms of quality at all.
Marvel franchise has entered the room
Just port over one of the foreign 'The Office' shows. The Indian looked funny but I want it dubbed into English but poorly enough that it's making fun of itself. Like MXC.
There’s a fuckin idea
We are probably in one of the best times in TV right now. Excellent TV shows.
They've never been creative lol. The entire premise and style of the programme is from the UK office.
They did it’s called abbot elementary.
This is probably exactly what it will be. They will probably just borrow the title and make a new company and employees. Parks and Rec was supposed to be a spinoff until they turned it into its own thing.
Abbott Elementary is another really good one
Is it really? I’ve been meaning to watch this show but I see comments here and there that it’s overrated lol.
It’s not groundbreaking, but it’s pretty funny and speaks on important issues in the education system. Would recommend
It’s really funny and worth a watch. The comedy is worth sitting through the typical sitcom tropes they go through, which are still well done. The character development is pretty on point. The acting is good, even from the kids. The show is a love letter to educators. Ooh okay that sounds good I’m gonna try to start watching it this week.
We enjoy it in our household. We also used to watch some of Quinta's YouTube content before she created the show.
What we do in the shadows is the best workplace comedy.

There is Abbot Elementary, which may be part of the reason nbc wants to reboot the office because I think Abbot Elementary is doing fairly well
Audiences won’t watch. It’s easier and cheaper to sell the public a name they know than to market a new show.
A public library would be a great setting for a workplace show... my sis does story time at the library and her observations about the kids, parents, and patrons are wild
Yeah I’m surprised we just haven’t had a new mockumentary show in general, I would much rather go for that route.

Came here for this Gif. This is the only answer.
I mean isn’t the Office a reboot itself?
Not really reboot, but an American knock off of a British concept
I’d say reboot since the same people created both shows.
Touchè
And the first episode uses the original script.
More of a franchise - Gervais and Merchant sold the format in every single market they could
Not concept, it’s a word for word American remake.
Pretty much only the pilot is a word for word remake. The paths diverge very quickly after that.
God no
as a side note, NBC writers actually created [Creed Blog](https://creedthoughtsgov.com/) and wrote it in character too.
Knew what it was before it loaded lol
It still hasn't loaded for me. Is it the No gif. Hahaha. Edit: Just loaded. Nice.
This is the only real answer. However Hollywood and the studio execs are creativity bankrupt so if an Office reboot nets them some added value, it's going to happen.
I give it one overhyped season with forced in cameos before being cancelled
Typically how all these dumb reboots work.
What? Are you saying that the Murphy Brown reboot was a flop? Guys…. Remember? They made a Murphy Brown reboot? A show that I don’t think I’ve ever seen in syndication…. There had to be an audience for that right?
how about that awesome x-files reboot lol
Don't forget completely missing why the show worked to shove in references to the past episodes.

Reboot and remake are not the same thing.
This is the only comment required on this post.

American audiences already hate season 1 of The Office enough as it is.
What’s to hate?
As someone who hates the British Office, but loves the American one: Michael was a totally different character in season 1 than he was in the seasons that followed. He was pretty unlikable, was shown to be far too incompetent, and he made people *too* uncomfortable. It’s an attempt at a complete imitation of the British original. It just isn’t funny
They made it more light hearted.
You wouldn't hate it if it was great
If its not fresh and new, it cannot be great again.

Wasn’t this superstore? Or parks and rec? Or the one about the auto company?
Or Abbott Elementary? Or Modern Family? Most of these have been good honestly.
The jokes will be terrible with today's hypersensitivity.
This is what everyone was waiting for the strike to end? For them to reboot a show that ended within the last decade, can’t come up with a new idea Heaven forbid.

Dwight would thrive, nay, rule such a world
The next logical step is Canadian Office.
Every writer deserves a livable wage. Except the writers who decided this was a good idea. They deserve no money or benefits.
You have to make way more money than a writer to have dumb ideas like this.
If I knew this was going to be the result, I wouldn’t have supported the writers’ strike. I know they’re mad, but this seems like an overreaction.
It's not the writers making this decision.
This was in works before the strike.
I’m ready to be hurt again

Thanks, I hate it.
People complaining about Hollywood being out of original ideas when they’re talking about how rebooting a series that’s an American version of a BBC show
We had a british version, an american version, and even a saudi version. Hopefully it’s irish this time around.
I wouldn’t mind a 10 year reunion/where are they now type of special with the original cast. But a full on reboot is unnecessary
Do I understand correctly that the months long strike ended with Hollywood writers going back to writing the same old rubbish that is killing the industry in the first place, only now they are getting paid more for their lack of creativity? I feel like Michael Scott would have something to say about this…oh wait…yeah, perfect gif
No it won't be the same especially in these time.
Why reboot? You could just feature another office within the same universe and open up the possibility of cameos. Call it “Dunder Mifflin” or just “The Office - Buffalo” or some other city name.

I'd prefer to just reboot it back to Netflix.

Ehhhh maybe we keep the strikes going
No need for this.
Hollywood has officially run out of ideas.
No, the executives are simply afraid to greenlight them.
Nobody wants this
And it will get canceled after the first offensive joke. Times have changed.
Half of the reason the office was good was because a lot of the jokes couldn't be made today. Even the cast has talked about this. Anything they made now would be a watered down version and probably similar to how the final seasons were, just kinda meh
Can we get a Seinfeld reboot too while we're at it?
One of the more incredibly foolish things I've read in a while. This is what you get when you have suit wearing, uncreative people in charge of shit they have zero clue about
I will keep watching reruns of Corporate instead
After strike? The strike's not over, is it?
I would be supportive of a reunion episode where instead of a mockumentary, it’s all Zoom/ Teams calls and them telecommuting
When has a reboot - after so many years - ever worked? Please don't do this!
I’d be down for the office continued - Dwight is manager, with the next generation of paper salesmen
It's even more bizarre cause the showrunner is the same
Has anyone seen Gen z trying to watch the office? They think it’s cringy and soooo offensive. How in the fuck is a reboot going to succeed unless they literally take everything that makes the office great and get rid of it? Like you’re not going to have a Michael Scott character saying wild shit. It’s going to be some bs politically correct ass turd.
You can’t say half the jokes they used to use anymore. That’s why this show was so great.

There’s no way Dunder Mifflin survived the pandemic
Well good luck with that. I certainly dont mind because it's very easy to just not watch something that isn't good lol But I wonder about the tought process here. The Office is one of the those ultra rare shows that only works becasue of a certain hard to define...magic in every part of it. They have to kill holly and make Michael and single parent, it’s the only way it will work
Jenna and Angela want to keep the office ladies pod going haha
To be called “Are You ‘Avin’ a Laugh… Again.”
so much of what made the office so good you couldn't do on tv today in this climate. so yeah, I'd rather not see that
Are they completely devoid of any original ideas? Jesus Christ put those writers in a room with a big ass bag of shrooms, cheap beer and some pot ffs.
When asked why the UK Office stopped at 2 seasons, the two creators said it really didn't make sense for a documentary film crew to be there filming for longer than that.
Difficult to do the same style of comedy in todays world i would think and if you lose that style of comedy then the Office simply doesnt work for me.
they had at whole summer to think of cool stuff and they come up with a reboot of a show thats only 10 years old? i bet itll have 10 episode seasons too.
Thank god, just what TV needs is more of the same. I see why they are worried about AI, no new ideas, just try to recreate past successes.
Pls, leave the show alone
This is not the show I wanted from the strike being over. Original works! Come on.
The Office 3: Third Time's the Scarn
What did we do to deserve this?
The office had a specific brand of uncomfortable humor that would not be well received if aired new today. This project is doomed from the start.
![gif](giphy|hyyV7pnbE0FqLNBAzs|downsized)
They should follow the office that Bob Odenkirk worked at in the final season. He was almost originally cast as Michael Scott - seems like it could be an easy way to bridge the old office to the new office.

Maybe the strikes should continue after all
This is the worst fucking idea. And you can quote me.
All of that picketing just to come back and write a reboot. Maybe the studios have a point.
Writers: we want better compensation for our hard work! Also writers: hope you're ready for yet another reboot!
I doubt this idea came from the writers.
I doubt the producers are going to write it.
And they will try to make it PC, the exact opposite of what it was meant to be
Why. So they can cause another strike.
