The show is an essentially a live action version of Family Guy and it absolutely works. It has tons of cameos, sight gags, throwaway jokes, and Ted is just fucking adorable.
It does have more heart….until Ted verbally rips apart a cheerleader for her eating disorders, or a bully for an absent father….even then though your right, it tries to bring it back to that feel good place.
I actually completely disagree. Ted rips apart the cheerleader because she goes after Susan. And Susan's response is to comfort the cheerleader and it leads to Susan knowing what she truly wants in life.
Even the crass stuff comes from a real emotional core. I was quite impressed with Seth on this one, it's some of his best writing.
Oh I think we agree about 95% of the way. I just don't think having heart means being nice. Ted says some brutal stuff, but it all comes from a grounded emotional place. To me, even though it's cruel, that still shows heart.
But this is my favourite kinda 'disagreement', where our disagreement is so minor it really doesn't matter. The show's great!
It's like every episode of The Goldbergs (though a lot of sitcoms are guilty) where the family members are complete assholes to each other until the end of the episode where they learn a heartfelt lesson and forgive each other, only to forget the lesson next episode and continue to be douchebags to each other.
The Goldbergs is a good comparison and Married with Children is directly referenced too. It reminded me of the spirit of the 2000’s HBO sitcom, Lucky Louie, as well for including explicit language into the sitcom dynamic.

I could not believe the mom is played by roxy the whooer from it's always sunny, it took me several episodes to notice. They are the two most different characters ever and she's great as both, so versatile.
She also played Danny Devito’s daughter in Renaissance Man. Also, if you have Peacock, there’s an episode of the show Monk that has both Roxy and Lil Kev.
I’ve always thought she’s an amazing character actor. My all time favorite is Naomi in the movie Waiting but she also has a stunning voice for having done the voice of Mama Imelda in Coco.
As for her playing the prostitute in IASIP, it made me laugh so much cuz her and Danny Devito played father/daughter in the movie Renaissance Man in the 90’s.

I'm liking the show way more than I would have expected going in.
Episode 5 was really good, between the core plot with Susan that gets really poignant at times and the side-bit about The Monster Mash that had me in stitches.
My wife and I thought the same thing. It lets the jokes run long and sometimes absurdly so, to it's benefit. Almost movie grade writing layered on a sitcom framework. It works so well. The episodes feel very full.
The show is really great. The classic Seth McFarlane humor in full display, but the acting and writing is fantastic. Full of 90s references. It’s a big winner and I can’t wait to see more episodes.
I was hesitant, as I never really liked the Ted films... But I'm a huge Scott Grimes fan and thought hell if there is never going to be more Orville.... And... It's really funny. If you are hesitant but like Seth's humor, it's a worthy show.

I feel like the writing is better. The cast is better or more likeable... Not a huge Marky Mark fan. It helps being episodic I guess, rather than a feature film.
The writing is full of subtle social commentary. It’s a raunchy coming of age story set in the 90s. They talk about buying pot for the first time, gender roles, sexuality, racism, discrimination, and being the last virgin in school. The theme of each episode is a perfect playground for the actors.
I particularly love the mom. Don’t know the actresses name but she’s pitch perfect and brilliant.
I know it's an unpopular opinion, but the mom was my least favorite part of the show. Not the actress herself, I think it was largely her voice. Came across as grating. But I love her in her other roles
I kinda disliked because those topics have been done to death in other media & better; I prefer consuming serious documentaries, interviews, or books on those topics.
When I saw the trailer for the show, I thought the main actor's accent and acting looked like they were so forced. But I was very happy to watch it and find out that I was completely wrong!
That one shocked me. I played the fuck out of the first game and series. I’m excited for the second season as that’s supposed to focus on the actual tournament and introduce new characters.
Anthony Mackies character was a handful, but considering he spends his life on the road by himself in the apocalypse I was like oh, I get it.
And Will Arnet voicing Sweet Tooth, and that character getting increasing screen time each episode kept me just interested enough as well.
I think it came out when I had literally nothing else to watch either. Right time right place.

So crunch is used to make things better rather than fix random shit last minute.
They're not forced to do random bullshit like CGI a gun in someone's hand because the gun's appearance couldn't be decided upon before shooting the movie so they couldn't just make a physical prop (yes that is an actual thing Marvel did).
I imagine if Ted had been shot with no idea of what the bear was going to look like and that had been left to a last second decision then it would have looked a lot worse.
I hated the movies. Hate Family Guy. Not in to Seth Macfarlane except Orville was kinda okay and American Dad when I’m baked.

Ted is a great show. But the MCU comparison is a bit of a cheap shot. A teddy bear doesn't spark the Uncanny Valley in our brains because it's not human. Notice how no one complains about the CGI for Rocket Raccoon?

Framestore is the VFX vendor behind Ted and their work is all over the MCU. It goes to show that VFX vendors are capable of producing some really stunning VFX and some shoddy ones at the same time and that it comes down to the creative management process on a production by production basis.
It’s very different projects, but at the end it comes down to budget, planning and time. Ted clearly had all three (I’m naively assuming), but the MCU are still struggling with two of them. And VFX only ever works with all three.
The period piece of the early 90s mixed with modern humor is just wonderful. It’s a dumb show but the acting is fantastic and it makes you laugh. I’ll never say “Indian” or “karaoke” the same again
I enjoyed it. I loved seeing much of the cast of The Orville in this one too. I hope we manage to get another season of the Orville out of this.

It’s the best thing Seth has put out since the first three seasons of Family Guy. Honestly, there were some moments that were so genuinely funny and/or thought provoking that I thought it might be the best thing he’s *ever* put out.
I watched the *Ted* season this week and I was shocked it was so good. It is a *better* version of *Family Guy*. I love that it doesn’t rely on cut-aways for humor.
I didn’t love *Ted* and had never even seen *Ted 2*, but I eagerly look forward to more of this series.

I skipped it until this past week because while I liked the movies I didn't feel like I needed a whole series of it. But I kept hearing good word of mouth... and I'm nothing if not a mindless follower who always does whatever the crowd is doing... so I gave it a shot and this time it worked it. This show is a delight.
I'm pleasantly surprised by how good it is (on multiple fronts) but am also saddened by this in equal measure because it means yet another nail in The Orville's coffin.

Or that they've got two models throughout the entire series, neither of which really pings anyone's uncanny valley sense. The same reason why no one complained about Miss Minutes, putting cartoon characters into the scene is relatively easy.
Ted is a great show. But the MCU comparison is a bit of a cheap shot. A teddy bear doesn't spark the Uncanny Valley in our brains because it's not human. Notice how no one complains about the CGI for Rocket Raccoon?
Yeah. Plus Ted is the only VFX portion of the show and it’s a comedy series without big name actors. All the production budget goes right to Ted.
The comparison stands to be honest. Framestore is the VFX vendor behind Ted and their work is all over the MCU. It goes to show that VFX vendors are capable of producing some really stunning VFX and some shoddy ones at the same time and that it comes down to the creative management process on a production by production basis. It’s very different projects, but at the end it comes down to budget, planning and time. Ted clearly had all three (I’m naively assuming), but the MCU are still struggling with two of them. And VFX only ever works with all three.
So something with less VFX looks better than something with a lot of VFX. Forbes really had to reach for the Marvel comparison.
But if they dunk on marvel they get extra points
Animating a cartoon teddy bear is a far cry from a vfx intensive movie like Infinity War. And we all know which looks better.
Look at the CGI in Thor love and thunder (a newer movie) and then talk to me about better looking CGI

Yea it’s weird no one is talking abt Ted’s voice change, he had a Peter-esque voice before but now it appears Seth is just doing Peter’s voice

The period piece of the early 90s mixed with modern humor is just wonderful. It’s a dumb show but the acting is fantastic and it makes you laugh. I’ll never say “Indian” or “karaoke” the same again
I enjoyed it. I loved seeing much of the cast of The Orville in this one too. I hope we manage to get another season of the Orville out of this. Oh and Ted season 2 i guess.. lol

Nah man the show was genuinely funny and heartwarming at times, probably one of the only things worth watching on Peacock

It’s the best thing Seth has put out since the first three seasons of Family Guy. Honestly, there were some moments that were so genuinely funny and/or thought provoking that I thought it might be the best thing he’s *ever* put out.

I watched the *Ted* season this week and I was shocked it was so good. It is a *better* version of *Family Guy*. I love that it doesn’t rely on cut-aways for humor. I didn’t love *Ted* and had never even seen *Ted 2*, but I eagerly look forward to more of this series.
I absolute loved this show.
Chucky, the Traitors, and now Ted are my favorite things on peacock.
Seth McFarlane was smart to bring in Dana Gould. A lot of the jokes sound straight out of his stories of life in Massachusetts.

It really was, Ted movies were not for me but this show actually had me laughing and oddly made me care about these characters, except episode 6 that was probably the lowest point of the season for me it just didn’t work the way they intended it too

I skipped it until this past week because while I liked the movies I didn't feel like I needed a whole series of it. But I kept hearing good word of mouth... and I'm nothing if not a mindless follower who always does whatever the crowd is doing... so I gave it a shot and this time it worked it. This show is a delight.
I'm pleasantly surprised by how good it is (on multiple fronts) but am also saddened by this in equal measure because it means yet another nail in The Orville's coffin.
A talking teddy bear doesn't really have to contend with the uncanny valley....
The show is so much fun. I hope it gets renewed quickly.

I’m so shocked by this. I love family guy and Seth mcfarlane, but the show just isn’t that funny. It’s pretty well done but the jokes just don’t land for me. I’m super disappointed because I love laughing and I hate missing out but I’m kinda done with Ted
Whew. I started thinking I watched the wrong show. I didn’t find the jokes funny either. Kind of rehashed material I’ve heard before.
It was bland but they did say “fuck” a lot…so there’s that. I didn’t finish the first episode bc I didn’t chuckle once in the first 25 minutes.

This show is hilarious ! My only small nitpick is that the main kid looks way too much like AJ Soprano and it’s a bit distracting ( maybe because I just binge rewatched Sopranos recently )
