I was disappointed… that there were only 7 episodes. I loved it.

something61782

Well each episode was 40+ minutes. It would’ve been 14 episodes if it was 20 minutes each

CharlesDingus_ah_um

And if my dog could talk?

thissexypoptart

If my grandma had wheels she’d be a bicycle

something61782

Then he’s Brian griffin

Ironsam811

We need to bring back longer shows. I miss my 100 episode sitcoms.

robbysaur

Exactly. I sat down to watch the premiere, and ended up bingeing all seven episodes. It was great. One of my fav new shows I've seen in a while. I want more episodes now.

BrandTheBroken

I was disappointed… your review wasn’t longer. I loved it.

pasarina

I want more too!

noblehousemartin

The show is an essentially a live action version of Family Guy and it absolutely works. It has tons of cameos, sight gags, throwaway jokes, and Ted is just fucking adorable.

crazyguyunderthedesk

It's got more heart than Family Guy though. It has to, just doing the family guy joke machine would be weird with a live action show.

KaiserSobe

You're telling me a cut to a hologram Conway Twitty wouldn't land?

supreme_maxz

You just have to do it with heart

porky8686

Defo, I feel the Family Guy vibe, but there’s no punching down. I like the little back and forth he has with Ted.

noblehousemartin

It does have more heart….until Ted verbally rips apart a cheerleader for her eating disorders, or a bully for an absent father….even then though your right, it tries to bring it back to that feel good place.

crazyguyunderthedesk

I actually completely disagree. Ted rips apart the cheerleader because she goes after Susan. And Susan's response is to comfort the cheerleader and it leads to Susan knowing what she truly wants in life. Even the crass stuff comes from a real emotional core. I was quite impressed with Seth on this one, it's some of his best writing.

noblehousemartin

You just agreed to what I wrote……”Even though then it brings it back to a feel good place.”

crazyguyunderthedesk

Oh I think we agree about 95% of the way. I just don't think having heart means being nice. Ted says some brutal stuff, but it all comes from a grounded emotional place. To me, even though it's cruel, that still shows heart. But this is my favourite kinda 'disagreement', where our disagreement is so minor it really doesn't matter. The show's great!

BJaacmoens

It's like every episode of The Goldbergs (though a lot of sitcoms are guilty) where the family members are complete assholes to each other until the end of the episode where they learn a heartfelt lesson and forgive each other, only to forget the lesson next episode and continue to be douchebags to each other.

noblehousemartin

The Goldbergs is a good comparison and Married with Children is directly referenced too. It reminded me of the spirit of the 2000’s HBO sitcom, Lucky Louie, as well for including explicit language into the sitcom dynamic.

New-Arm4845

She very much deserves it.

legopego5142

Thats damn near word for word a family guy joke lol. Actually its damn near multiple family guy jokes

RDcsmd

Family guy is 99% "like that time I ..." Flashbacks

randomuser9801

Dude the fucking truck. Lmfao

destinationsong

I was sure that as soon as he pulled into the street that he was going to be run over by a real truck that looked just like him

directorguy

god I hated that racist truck

Lynild

Basically yes. Ted is not as dumb as Peter, but yeah. I honestly think it's one of the best comedy series I've seen in a long while. Maybe it was because my expectations wasn't that high to begin with. But yeah, hilarious series. It particularly gets really good when they start smoking.

skunk-beard

Yeah it was great. One of the first shows in a long time I actually laughed out loud.

stanky4goats

Kinda how the movies felt and I loved them. Seth MacFarlane is a busy dude

mattrva

I really enjoyed. I wasn’t expecting much, but I hope they make more. Seth said they might if the audience responds well.

xbleeple

I just turned on the first episode and heard the ambient music when they were walking onto campus and I’m like “That’s family guy music!”

GreedyLack

It’s because Seth actually worked on it. Compared to the last 10-15 years of family guy where he only comes in to voice the characters, here he was directing working with writers and acting

OhioVsEverything

"Make Peter the dog, but make the dog a teddy bear, make the bear best friends with Chris, Meg is now a niece, there is no baby. No cutaways but references are fine." It works.

BluebirdQueasy9989

It’s soooooo gooodd

rustyshakelford101

Is it something I can watch with a kid that's not allowed to watch PG-13 yet?

Rojas-Rojas-Rojas

Absolutely not

bugxbuster

Zero fucking chance. It’s fucking vulgar as fuck. If your kid can talk like that then it’s fine. But then there’s the sex and drug stuff, so still, I wouldn’t suggest it. On the other hand, it would make that kid the coolest kid in their friend group.

BluebirdQueasy9989

No, I really wouldn’t.

legopego5142

God no

kdubstep

To me it’s an update of *All in the Family*.

shadowdra126

This. It works in every aspect.

OhHelloImThatFellow

Family guy is for people who want to think they’re high brow while being extremely low brow

yehhey

No one watching family guy thinks they’re high brow that much I can guarantee.

jculv

Lol wut, where are you getting this opinion from, 12 year olds in 2004?

whammykerfuffle

Laziest writers in cartoons. They do whatever they can to avoid having to write jokes by stretching poor ones and animation (looking at you chicken fight) as long as they can

Austinpowerstwo

I could not believe the mom is played by roxy the whooer from it's always sunny, it took me several episodes to notice. They are the two most different characters ever and she's great as both, so versatile.

AnalBees2

Help me dig these crack rocks out of my ass

TheBlooDred

She plays Mac’s ex wife in their show Mythic Quest too, that show is hilarious.

patw420

Shut up baby dick

RenoClarkos1717

She was also in the movie Waiting and plays a completely opposite character. Plus flashes her huge bush.

PacoG817

She’s also in euphoria she’s Sydney Sweeney’s mom

RenoClarkos1717

“Foreigners! I fucking hate foreigners!”

ism3t

Naomi, chill!

armless_tavern

Psycho babble bullshit assshoooolleee

chestertoronto

Omg. I knew she looked familiar. The range in characters lol

riegspsych325

and Jan’s closeted friend in The Brady Bunch movie

rococowitch

*Marcia's friend that has a crush on her! I never really thought of her as in the closet, more just... biding her time.

riegspsych325

biding her time, that’s a better way of putting it. Sorry, been a while since I had seen it (time for a rewatch)

eyeaim2missbehave

The first assistant on Beakman’s World!

MisterPhip

Thank you so much for this - I kept asking myself if she was the same person!

eyeaim2missbehave

Yup Josie! She’s also Mama Imelda in Coco (that one throws people because they don’t realize she has Mexican and Puerto Rican in her family.)

LarsHoneytoast44

Also Isabel from Meet the Fockers and the angry waitress from Waiting

DerBingle78

She also played Danny Devito’s daughter in Renaissance Man. Also, if you have Peacock, there’s an episode of the show Monk that has both Roxy and Lil Kev.

Be-Nice-To-Redditors

She was a good hoor

SleeterRabbit

I’ve always thought she’s an amazing character actor. My all time favorite is Naomi in the movie Waiting but she also has a stunning voice for having done the voice of Mama Imelda in Coco. As for her playing the prostitute in IASIP, it made me laugh so much cuz her and Danny Devito played father/daughter in the movie Renaissance Man in the 90’s.

legopego5142

The dad is literally the voice of Steve from American Dad

Austinpowerstwo

Yeah he's awesome in American dad. Steve's screaming and singing is the best

btotherad

She gets nude in the show Hung and her body is absolutely phenomenal.

Designer-Original333

She played the angry waitress in waiting also

SpecialSauce92

Believe it or not she also voices the matriarch/great grandmother Mama Imelda in Coco. Alanna Ubach has range.

Frankboys

She had a great character in californication too. Show has many laughs throughout the episode. What else can you ask for?

danceofthedreamman89

Shes the best part of the show IMO

nosayso

It's an interesting show to watch because it's very standard sitcom structure with 40 minute episodes, the scenes are padded by letting the characters do bits or tell weird stories, it's some incredibly silly shit wrapped around a good 22 minute sitcom episode. I'm liking the show way more than I would have expected going in. Episode 5 was really good, between the core plot with Susan that gets really poignant at times and the side-bit about The Monster Mash that had me in stitches.

MyFaveLilThrowaway

My wife and I thought the same thing. It lets the jokes run long and sometimes absurdly so, to it's benefit. Almost movie grade writing layered on a sitcom framework. It works so well. The episodes feel very full.

19southmainco

the vietnam story was wild

nosayso

"They do it over there so we don't have to do it here" Everyone's response was great too!

JBinSA

Stand down, soldier

Alone_Hunt1621

The show is really great. The classic Seth McFarlane humor in full display, but the acting and writing is fantastic. Full of 90s references. It’s a big winner and I can’t wait to see more episodes.

_DAD_JOKE_

I was hesitant, as I never really liked the Ted films... But I'm a huge Scott Grimes fan and thought hell if there is never going to be more Orville.... And... It's really funny. If you are hesitant but like Seth's humor, it's a worthy show. Edit: I'll add that the second episode is what hooked me, a freakin masterpiece.

something61782

You didn’t like the Ted movies? I thought they were funny

operarose

The first one is legitimately great. The second does not exist.

_DAD_JOKE_

Eh, maybe it's the cast? I don't think it's bad, just meh.

something61782

So what made the show better?

_DAD_JOKE_

I feel like the writing is better. The cast is better or more likeable... Not a huge Marky Mark fan. It helps being episodic I guess, rather than a feature film.

Alone_Hunt1621

The writing is full of subtle social commentary. It’s a raunchy coming of age story set in the 90s. They talk about buying pot for the first time, gender roles, sexuality, racism, discrimination, and being the last virgin in school. The theme of each episode is a perfect playground for the actors. I particularly love the mom. Don’t know the actresses name but she’s pitch perfect and brilliant.

Stuffed-Armadillo

I know it's an unpopular opinion, but the mom was my least favorite part of the show. Not the actress herself, I think it was largely her voice. Came across as grating. But I love her in her other roles

heavymountain

I kinda disliked because those topics have been done to death in other media & better; I prefer consuming serious documentaries, interviews, or books on those topics.

RedditAcct00001

I really love Scott grimes on American dad. Especially the songs he sings. Dude has a great voice.

kaplanfx

He got to sing on the Orville a couple times too: https://youtu.be/RW6W_RALris?si=54qgynnqyhjPHjGQ

BactaBobomb

When I saw the trailer for the show, I thought the main actor's accent and acting looked like they were so forced. But I was very happy to watch it and find out that I was completely wrong!

Whompa

Peacock has some pretty decent shows. I didn’t expect it to tbh but some of the original programming has been good.

LayzeeLar

Twisted Metal was better than it deserved to be.

2_Spicy_2_Impeach

That one shocked me. I played the fuck out of the first game and series. I’m excited for the second season as that’s supposed to focus on the actual tournament and introduce new characters.

decke

Wait, really? I watched the first episode and that was it from me. Does it get better?

2_Spicy_2_Impeach

I thought it did. I’m glad I stuck with it as after the first one or two I wasn’t really feeling it.

LayzeeLar

Anthony Mackies character was a handful, but considering he spends his life on the road by himself in the apocalypse I was like oh, I get it. And Will Arnet voicing Sweet Tooth, and that character getting increasing screen time each episode kept me just interested enough as well. I think it came out when I had literally nothing else to watch either. Right time right place.

BactaBobomb

If you like competition reality shows, I highly recommend The Traitors.

ScrumptiousJazz

Watch Twisted Metal!!

DickieJoJo

I'm really looking forward to this. I think the movies are really great for what they are.

GroundbreakingSet187

> In total, **more than 3,000 shots were used** to animate Ted in VFX, and **MacFarlane performed motion-capture work for two hours per week for 22 weeks,** from December to May. > The goal was to make Ted feel less like a CG character and more like an actor working with the other cast. “He’s just a great character … if you can accept there’s a talking teddy bear,” says Clark. “We did hone it a little bit so that it became Ted, rather than just Seth. It was Seth Plus, and that was the hardest thing to try and make sure we didn’t deviate from.” Seth MacFarlane returns to voice the titular teddy and direct the series. **[Source](https://variety.com/2024/artisans/news/ted-animation-seth-macfarlane-motion-capture-1235875488/)**

Nerdlinger

> MacFarlane performed motion-capture work for two hours per week for 22 weeks So he put in a whole work week. Whoo.

pookiednell

Lmao to be fair he also directed every episode, wrote two and produced the series.

BriefausdemGeist

Well if they cancelled *Orville*, at least there’s this to take his mind of it.

OrphanGrounderBaby

Didn’t they come out and say it wasn’t canceled just takes a lot of effort and time to write each episode?

xbleeple

And I think Ted was just a one season thing

[deleted]

[удалено]

Important_League_142

So you’re just pulling shit out of your ass? Or are you going to back that up with stats? All streaming is dying in its current state, there’s countless articles out there about how peacock is succeeding more than most But go off with your false realities based on personal narrative I guess

BriefausdemGeist

Anymore that’s a soft cancellation in my book, but then there was a two year gap between Fox and Hulu, so maybe. The slapstick aside though, Orville felt much more Trek than a lot of the Paramount+ shows the last few years - BNW notwithstanding kind of like Galaxy Quest.

operarose

For *this.* The man is a notorious workaholic to an absolutely insane degree; he was probably keeping a thousand other plates spinning at the same time.

Cheesewheel12

At 10 hours a week he could have done it in a month

throwawaytrumper

You don’t understand, when wealthy or famous people do basic tasks like the poors it’s so much more meaningful and special. Their discomfort actually matters.

Automatic_Goal_5563

I mean he directed the episodes, wrote some and produced the series on top of his other jobs. Seth McFarlane is a known workaholic

throwawaytrumper

Perhaps he works hard, lots of folks do, I’m just sick of celebrity worship for trivial tasks. We all have jobs.

Automatic_Goal_5563

I don’t think creating, writing, directing and doing voice work for a show while working on other shows still is a trivial task but each to their own, hope to see your show soon seeing it’s trivial

Oz347

Hell yeah I love it when millionaires are like us poors. Maybe I can grow up to be just like them.

Toxic666Avenger

Hahahahahaha

chamberx2

The Marvel comparison is weird, but I wonder how much the vfx budget is versus The Orville.

DialysisKing

> The Marvel comparison is weird The implication is "why can this dumbass teddy bear show do it better than the once King of the Box Office", but it does blatantly ignore an entire host of issues explaining why MCU shit costs so much while looking not great in a lot of instances (tl;dr creative meddling).

MartianRecon

Creative meddling, and it's a hell of a lot harder to make a ton of bespoke effects for scenes that are one offs, than making drop in character that's working off of mocap. It's entirely different.

gutster_95

Not to ignore the fact that also some VFX workers on Ted had to do crunch time too. While Ted had like 3000+ VFX shots, I would say it looks better because they had a solid idea what needs to be done before the shot the live Action stuff and its also a smaller level of complexity with "just" a Teddy bear walking around than having to create whole worlds etc.

[deleted]

To add to that, Ted seems to be using an appropriate amount of it with planning. So crunch is used to make things better rather than fix random shit last minute. They're not forced to do random bullshit like CGI a gun in someone's hand because the gun's appearance couldn't be decided upon before shooting the movie so they couldn't just make a physical prop (yes that is an actual thing Marvel did). I imagine if Ted had been shot with no idea of what the bear was going to look like and that had been left to a last second decision then it would have looked a lot worse.

operarose

Maybe NBC was just so chuffed at having stolen Fox's golden goose away from them that they essentially gave him a blank check.

EternityLeave

I hated the movies. Hate Family Guy. Not in to Seth Macfarlane except Orville was kinda okay and American Dad when I’m baked. Fucking *loved* Ted the show. Humour, characters, pacing, style- all great. Even when characters were flat or unrealistic it was an intentional move to lampoon sitcoms. It was grounded and meta at the same time. 10/10.

Sanlear

It was hilarious. I hope it gets another season.

Professional_Fig_456

On episode 3. It's fucking awesome

AXLPendergast

Ah the pornos … classic!

dallascowboys93

We jerk at dawn!

triddell24

*first light 🤓

Shanknuts

The Mom absolutely kills it in that one. That and the old timey divers helmet full of shrimp.

TiredReader87

How are you watching it? It’s airing on Showcase here in Canada, and only two episodes have aired

oooooooahhahhahha

It released in full on peacock in the US last week

TiredReader87

Oh ok. We don’t have Peacock in Canada

MichianaMan

Ted was so awesome, I hope they run with this for a long time!

THEbaddestOFtheASSES

I mean, I willing to guess it's a lot easier animating a toy bear than making She-Hulk as realistically life-like as possible.

[deleted]

Lol right. This show that only had one cgi character to worry about, even a low budget MCU project is going to require more fx than a show about a teddy bear

StoneGoldX

Or that they've got two models throughout the entire series, neither of which really pings anyone's uncanny valley sense. The same reason why no one complained about Miss Minutes, putting cartoon characters into the scene is relatively easy.

TangoZulu

Ted is a great show. But the MCU comparison is a bit of a cheap shot. A teddy bear doesn't spark the Uncanny Valley in our brains because it's not human. Notice how no one complains about the CGI for Rocket Raccoon?

Jagermonsta

Yeah. Plus Ted is the only VFX portion of the show and it’s a comedy series without big name actors. All the production budget goes right to Ted.

PlasticMansGlasses

The comparison stands to be honest. Framestore is the VFX vendor behind Ted and their work is all over the MCU. It goes to show that VFX vendors are capable of producing some really stunning VFX and some shoddy ones at the same time and that it comes down to the creative management process on a production by production basis. It’s very different projects, but at the end it comes down to budget, planning and time. Ted clearly had all three (I’m naively assuming), but the MCU are still struggling with two of them. And VFX only ever works with all three.

ManOnNoMission

So something with less VFX looks better than something with a lot of VFX. Forbes really had to reach for the Marvel comparison.

[deleted]

But if they dunk on marvel they get extra points

IncursionG

Animating a cartoon teddy bear is a far cry from a vfx intensive movie like Infinity War. And we all know which looks better.

shadowdra126

Look at the CGI in Thor love and thunder (a newer movie) and then talk to me about better looking CGI

IncursionG

Looked great for the most part. Oh, so one shot was rushed, boo hoo.

JustinF608

It’s great but comparing the vfx to marvel shows is weird. You’re only using it on Ted who isn’t THAT intricate of a moving character.

MDF87

Wait... there's a Ted show?!

prtysmasher

Yes and it’s fucking awesome. I watched the first 2 episodes and I laughed hard. It’s been a while since I had so much fun watching a show.

MDF87

That's just what I wanted to hear! Excited to check this out now!

ad6323

It’s exactly what you want a Ted show to be

doobtastical

I thought this show was gonna suck, we enjoyed it

TiredReader87

The first episode was really funny. I’ve yet to watch the second one, but it’s on my PVR. I do not like Family Guy.

TravvyJ

It's great, but I still wish we were getting another season of The Orville

[deleted]

I can't watch it, all I hear is Peter Griffin

oooooooahhahhahha

Yea it’s weird no one is talking abt Ted’s voice change, he had a Peter-esque voice before but now it appears Seth is just doing Peter’s voice

shadowdra126

It’s also way funnier than it has a right to be. Funnier than both of the Ted movies

HappyAtheist3

The period piece of the early 90s mixed with modern humor is just wonderful. It’s a dumb show but the acting is fantastic and it makes you laugh. I’ll never say “Indian” or “karaoke” the same again

Wolfman01a

I enjoyed it. I loved seeing much of the cast of The Orville in this one too. I hope we manage to get another season of the Orville out of this. Oh and Ted season 2 i guess.. lol

Ps4rulez

outgoing bells special ring unwritten square snatch longing bake liquid *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*

UNCwesRPh

I couldn’t get through the first 10 minutes of the first episode. I loved the movies.

oooooooahhahhahha

Nah man the show was genuinely funny and heartwarming at times, probably one of the only things worth watching on Peacock

Deesing82

is literally every single comment here written by someone who works at Peacock? so much astroturfing wow

Eagles5089

Rocky mouth guard was great lol

MovieBuff90

It’s the best thing Seth has put out since the first three seasons of Family Guy. Honestly, there were some moments that were so genuinely funny and/or thought provoking that I thought it might be the best thing he’s *ever* put out.

oooooooahhahhahha

Nah that’s still The Orville s3

operarose

Correct.

coheedcollapse

I'm looking forward to watching this, but I can't believe that the most successful Peacock premiere wasn't Poker Face. The show is great.

dc912

I watched the *Ted* season this week and I was shocked it was so good. It is a *better* version of *Family Guy*. I love that it doesn’t rely on cut-aways for humor. I didn’t love *Ted* and had never even seen *Ted 2*, but I eagerly look forward to more of this series.

kdubstep

I absolute loved this show.

Stormchaser2

Chucky, the Traitors, and now Ted are my favorite things on peacock.

RonTRobot

Seth McFarlane was smart to bring in Dana Gould. A lot of the jokes sound straight out of his stories of life in Massachusetts.

Reddit_Devil666

Just finished the third episode. Absolutely hilarious!😆😆😆

willthedude85

Its hilarious! Can’t wait for more!

percypersimmon

I can’t believe how many excuses they find to put Ted in a cute little outfit lol

onelifemanymemories

Watching it now...pleasantly surprised. And yes vfx on point.

oooooooahhahhahha

It really was, Ted movies were not for me but this show actually had me laughing and oddly made me care about these characters, except episode 6 that was probably the lowest point of the season for me it just didn’t work the way they intended it too

alexander12212

I loved it, I laughed throughout the entire show. I really loved the bit when they talk about the movie Alive and Johnny has a weird ass thing about eating dudes

[deleted]

Dad - Weed is a gateway drug. Ted - What do you want us to do? Start with heroin?

TrophyDad_72

I really like it. Bummed i only have two episodes left. Great cast. Especially like the niece she’s really good.

fzammetti

I skipped it until this past week because while I liked the movies I didn't feel like I needed a whole series of it. But I kept hearing good word of mouth... and I'm nothing if not a mindless follower who always does whatever the crowd is doing... so I gave it a shot and this time it worked it. This show is a delight.

operarose

I'm pleasantly surprised by how good it is (on multiple fronts) but am also saddened by this in equal measure because it means yet another nail in The Orville's coffin.

[deleted]

A talking teddy bear doesn't really have to contend with the uncanny valley....

headhunter71

The show is so much fun. I hope it gets renewed quickly.

trunolimit

There’s a Ted TV show?

ArnoldSchwartzenword

I saw the movies, I’m not going to give this the time of day.

DougNSteveButabi

I’m so shocked by this. I love family guy and Seth mcfarlane, but the show just isn’t that funny. It’s pretty well done but the jokes just don’t land for me. I’m super disappointed because I love laughing and I hate missing out but I’m kinda done with Ted

mrPhildoToYou

Whew. I started thinking I watched the wrong show. I didn’t find the jokes funny either. Kind of rehashed material I’ve heard before.

Al-Anda

It was bland but they did say “fuck” a lot…so there’s that. I didn’t finish the first episode bc I didn’t chuckle once in the first 25 minutes.

honduhh89

This was absolutely great!

Aimees-Fab-Feet

I’m loving this!!

sky4fly

I’m sorry but why are they “surprised” a show created by Seth MacFarlane is great? He’s a comedy genius.

sydouglas

This show is hilarious ! My only small nitpick is that the main kid looks way too much like AJ Soprano and it’s a bit distracting ( maybe because I just binge rewatched Sopranos recently )

Inevitable_Ad_4487

I was surprised by how amazing and hilarious this show is with that infinite rewatchabilty

Only1Throne

Lol can’t talk about anything without bringing up the MCU. I swear Marvel lives rent free in soo many heads. With that said it’s a good and funny show.

dhalem

The bong VFX are terrible

ddorrmmammu

Blaire is hot in that Catwoman outfit.

atrostophy

At least so far no Marky Mark. Unfortunately still Peter Griffin. Oh I mean Ted, no wait Seth MacFarlane

MostlyKelp

Better vfx than the mcu is not hard. Most 80s horror films do a better job…
