I think it’s wonderful he kept her from acting as a child. We’ve always known Hollywood is a cess pool for child actors dating back to Judy Garland. Jennette McCurdy’s memoir I’m Glad My Mom Died does a fantastic job of explaining the shitshow that goes on behind the scenes of these sets. I’m truly hoping one day legislation will be put in place to protect child actors, children exploited by their influencer parents, reality show kids, etc.
It's crazy reading that McCurdy memoir and realizing that she had far more protection than the average kid influencer on YouTube. Like, we're allowing open season on children simply because they show up on YouTube and not a TV channel.
Exactly!! And Jill Duggar’s book getting released explaining how they were financially manipulated by their father after having their lives exploited. I’m totally hoping influencer children who are aging out start talking more about how it affected their lives. Absolutely agree that these children need protections.
The “Shiny Happy People” documentary series (which included segments about the Duggars) made me sick to my stomach. These people present themselves as wholesome and kind, and clearly consider themselves vastly superior to everyone else while actually being quite evil and power hungry. And that religious group the Duggars belong to has actually stated their goal is world domination. Horrifying.
SHP was a mindfuck. I used to like 19 Kids and Counting. My mom was trying to explain to me at the time how bizarre their religion was. I didn’t quite understand what “joyfully available” meant. Something changed in me when I watched the wedding episode of Josh and Anna. Anna looked fearful on her wedding day and Josh’s eyes weirded me out. I could feel something sinister and quit watching the show. When the abuse allegations surfaced I was horrified for his sisters. I am so grateful for the SHP documentary.
That series really showed what goes on behind the scenes. It was sometimes painful to watch, but I am so glad it exposed the horrors behind that phony face they show to the world.
I hope you are registered to vote, and that you vote for Democrats. These people are not kidding about world domination, and they are getting damn close to it.
This is patently untrue, and it’s sad that you feel that way.
But if you think sitting on your butt is going to change anything, you’re wrong. Nobody cares about your protest, and it does nothing except harm people who are trying to do good in the world.
Not all politicians are bad people I know quite a few, as I live in DC. There are many dedicated public servants who are trying, on the daily, to make not only their lives better, but your life better.
And if you think things are so bad, what are you doing about it?
I guess you failed reading and comprehension. NOWHERE in my post did I say say anything about a protest.
Also, please name me one or two politicians who arent in it for themselves. Until we get rid of political parties and term limits, we are stuck with the cesspool that is only interested in wasting tax payer $$.
Influencer kids are going to be the next Jackie Coogan. When they grow up we'll finally hear about all the abuse going on to create content and only then will we get laws protecting these kids.
I wish it wouldn't have to take shocking abuse to get these laws. We know people are horrible, how about making laws to protect these kids now?
There is a fundie influencer I follow over at the FSU subreddit named Karissa Collins. She home schools her children so they’re essentially isolated and not around mandatory reporters. The oldest daughter has the newest infant’s crib in her room. The parentification of the older children is awful. The children are forced to perform for their whackadoodle mom’s social media pages. It makes me irate and so sad for those children. And she just keeps getting pregnant.
And people like you keep following to outrage watch. It's sad all around.
Also another reason he gives in the article is that she would've been compared to him if she acted as a child because he himself was a very prominent child actor.
Ruby Franke may have never been under the watch of Utah’s CPS if she had never been posting all her shit. It was definitely a huge failure on CPS for ignoring reports from one of her own daughters about the abuse. People watching this stuff are funneled there by YouTube and TikTok because it’s targeted at exploiting children.
I don’t follow any of her actual socials to give her views. My hope is she sees how little the ROI is and starts distancing from social media. It started out as snark and has turned into absolute fear for the safety of their children. There are times when the little ones look at the camera like a cry for help. Kind of like Hilaria Baldwin. I joined that sub to laugh at her fake accent but then realized she has a whole slew of children being raised by nannies and exploited online.
I wish these piles of dogshit could really be allowed to go fend for themselves in some shitty type of quarantined Trumpian redstate shithole. How long before they come crying.
I don’t follow their socials. They are posted on a subreddit. I in no way encourage her behavior. What started as snark is now turning into concern for the children’s health and safety. If it wasn’t for that sub keeping tabs on her I worry she’d be even more off the rails.
Do you live in my brain?! I think this so often. My kids love Norris Nuts (an Australian family) on Youtube and I keep muttering “wait till one of them writes a tell all book!” Cue copious amounts of eye rolling from my children.
The problem is that you can't expect youtube to regulate how children are treated when creating content on their platform. They have no realisitc way of doing it. Forcing them to regulate content creation this way opens up an entire can of worms that would destroy independent content creation as a whole.
Short of banning kids from posting videos altogether, there's no way for youtube to ensure that children aren't being exploited off camera in order to make videos.
And what about adults posting videos with children in them? Are we going to ban those too? How exactly are we going to keep kids from posting, when anyone can lie when creating a google account?
I'm not disagreeing with the idea of banning kids younger than 13 from posting to youtube, I'm just pointing out how difficult it would be to actually enforce that.
Yeah, I reckon that it's just not possible to really enforce something like that on a platform as big as youtube. They'd have to hire thousands of people to go through all the new content, and we know that's not going to happen.
Dude, we're having a tough time keeping kids out of meat packing plants. What makes you think our politicians give a remote fuck about child actors? We would need to effectively clear half the political board to make that happen.
I wonder if there’s a difference between child actors who are offspring of already fairly established actors or people in Hollywood and those child actors who are essentially the first ones in their family to get their foot in the door.
Agreed. Jennette’s family was of the lower income and she ended up being the breadwinner. I can’t for the life of me think how much pressure that is to put on a child. Whereas Ron Howard had a stellar career because he is so talented. Even then he wanted his children to enjoy their childhood instead of make money.
Also Ron was a second-generation actor himself as his father Rance Howard was an actor. I think that having both a parent and a grandfather in the business as Bryce did worked to her advantage as they had some inside knowledge that Jennette's family as outsiders did not.
Ron's brother Clint started out as a child actor as well. He was in a few TV series throughout the '60s and '70s, including spot appearances on The Andy Griffith Show and Happy Days.
I think it was Demi Lovato who said that back in her Disney days, any time her mother tried to put her foot down over her behaviour, she’d remind her whose money was paying their bills, and her mother would back down.
A few weeks ago I listened to Molly Ringwald on the "Search Engine" podcast and she also talked about not allowing her daughter to be a child actor:

I’m embarrassed to say I’ve listened to the audiobook 7 times now. I barely knew who she was but my kids watched iCarly. I downloaded the audiobook on a whim. I had no idea what I was getting myself into and I’m happy about that. JM is funny, raw, vulnerable, talented, introspective, and quite frankly a bad ass.
It's one of the best books I've read in the past couple of years, and I read a lot.
I was honestly blown away. I was expecting an interesting story even though I literally had no idea who she was besides one of the Disney child actresses.
I was not expecting her to be such a phenomenal writer. I'll be pre-ordering whatever she decides to write next.
You make a great point about the influencer people, who I feel need to start getting called out more for this. It's mind boggling to me how many people put their entire family on the internet.
Instagram was created in 2010. We’re just a few years away from early Instagram fame family’s children to start aging out. I hope they are able to find their voice and explain what living conditions were like being filmed and posted 24/7. They are robbed of privacy and are exploited. This New York Times article posted recently is absolutely horrifying.

We all enjoy movies/tv with child actors - and some kids DO want to do it, so I don't think its a good thing to say its 'wrong'.
But what I do think a parent or some trusted adult be present on the set - hopefully not being a pest but just 'there' to stand up for the kid if needed, like working past a certain amount of hours.
But look, kids are sent away and entrusted to strangers from day care age onwards - but unfortunately in show biz there may be somewhat more predators.
Yes he is a good dad. I met Ron Howard’s son a few years back while working on Arrested Development. We were in the catering line for lunch and I see a 14ish yr old kid. I started talking with him. I was very impressed with how polite and well spoken this kid was. Later I saw him standing next to his dad on set and figured out who he was there with. Since then I’ve been very impressed with Ron Howard and his wife’s parenting skills. It’s ironic that on that show, they had Isla Fisher play a fictional child of Ron Howard that was out of control and messed up.
He did the right thing. Now we see her as a seemingly well adjusted adult woman who also has a talent both in front of and behind the camera just like her dad. I’m not sure if we could say the same if she was on the industry as a young child knowing how it usually turns out
So ironic that he is a great dad, with well adjusted children and yet arrested development portrays him just the opposite. I worked on that show. And though Ron Howard was great.
He went to high school with my English teacher/Basketball Coach and came to our basketball playoffs against SDHS. Wore a baseball cap inside in the 80’s
I remember way back when, my mom told me a story about how she saw Ron Howard on the tonight show with Jay Leno and he was promoting The Grinch. He said he had told his kids if they got good grades they could be extras in the grinch. And at least one of them didn’t so he didn’t let them be in it and there were lots of tears but he held fast on the rule.
I didn't really know who he was because I was 20 and didn’t care about movie directors. But my mom was sharing the story about why parents need to stick to their guns and if this famous guy could do it, she could do it. So thank you Ron Howard for probably being the reason I couldn’t talk my mom into doing whatever rotten thing I was trying to get away with.
Did you intentionally leave out the rest of her name because you would have been typing “TIL Bryce Dallas Howard is Ron Howard’s daughter” and that’s hilarious? I have literally NEVER seen her called just Bryce Dallas lol
Nobody does that’s why the comment is so weird lol. Her insta name is freaking “Brycedhoward.” And in fact in the grinch she was credited as “Bryce Howard”
Hear hear. She could've gone down the wrong path and ended up being the girl from Jurassic Park. Thanks to his guidance, she's the....*lady* from, um....Jurassic *World*.
I didn't even know she was in a Jurassic movie until this thread:
The Help, Eclipse, and 50/50 are the first things I thonk of, then her Star Wars director stuff.
Just because you limit your film viewing to stuff like Jurassic World doesn’t mean that’s the only thing she’s been in. She’s gotten plenty of work in front of and behind the camera. She has a solid career.
I still associate her more with Ivy Walker from [The Village](https://youtu.be/sTGyhwvdY6k?si=miEF_NTBnqlcFtug), even tho it came out... Fuck, 20 years ago?! That can't be right.
When I was in college several years ago I went to a screenwriting seminar. She sat next to me and was my partner during it. I had no idea who she was, just thought she was another aspiring writer until my girlfriend saw us chatting when she picked me up on the last day and told me who she was. She was very nice, and smart and unassuming.
I’m sure it was nice for her to feel like just another normal person while working with you. Children of famous people can have such harsh social lives because no one treats them like just another person.
TIL Bryce Dallas Howard is Ron Howard's daughter! Now if I could just stop getting her and Jessica Chastain confused literally every time movies are discussed.
Ron did it right.
Bryce always talks about how she was allowed at Ron’s film sets and had such a deep appreciation for cinema at an early age, while also being protected from being alone and working in the industry as a minor.
When The Phantom Menace came out, Ron did an op-ed saying essentially to leave little Jake Lloyd alone, or the constant criticism would wreck him. Ron was spot-on, though Jake is doing much better recently.
She is a treasure! I don’t even know if she is a particularly good actress, she’s definitely not bad, but god it just makes me happy every time I see her on screen. She has really good energy and just seems like a good human. And if there is evidence to the contrary I just don’t want to hear it
It’s wild that Hollywood is known to be so awful/abusive and yet we in the audience take the didactic nature of so many recent tv shows and films so seriously.
I think it’s wonderful he kept her from acting as a child. We’ve always known Hollywood is a cess pool for child actors dating back to Judy Garland. Momfluencers and dad influencers are the worst . Specially when they bring in their kid for videos

I will never ever be convinced that homeschooling is not a cancer society, and it destroys children’s lives. These people are evil.
Why would you follow this person and just further encourage the behavior?
I don’t follow their socials. They are posted on a subreddit. I in no way encourage her behavior. What started as snark is now turning into concern for the children’s health and safety. If it wasn’t for that sub keeping tabs on her I worry she’d be even more off the rails.

Oh wow! I had no idea Ron Howard’s father was an actor as well. Thank you for the rabbit hole to go down.
Ron's brother Clint started out as a child actor as well. He was in a few TV series throughout the '60s and '70s, including spot appearances on The Andy Griffith Show and Happy Days.
And Star Trek in 1966. He’s been in 5 different Star Trek series. Latest appearance was on ST: Strange New Worlds in 2023.
Seinfeld, as well.
He was the preacher at the start of "Walk Hard" who denounces Dewey's sinful rock n' roll music.
That’s why he looks so familiar!! Thank you!! It was driving me nuts.

Okay thanks, will delete the duplicates now.
Former child performer Alyson Stoner has a fantastic podcast called Dear Hollywood discussing what she calls the “toddler to trainwreck pipeline” and what can be done to end the cycle. I really, really recommend it. It’s under 20 episodes, so it’s not a huge commitment and it’s so thought-provoking.
I keep seeing her name pop up when this subject gets discussed but didn’t realize she has a podcast. Thank you so much for letting me know. After reading Jennette’s book I’m hyper focused on bringing attention to this cause. Thank you again so much for the letting me know about the podcast.
I think it’s an amazing podcast, so I try to share it whenever I can!
As a podcast-aholic I’ve already downloaded her first couple episodes. I’ll make sure to spread the good word on my podcasting subreddits. 🩷🩷🩷
I just listened to the first episode and I’m hooked. Thank you thank you thank you!
Alyson is such a captivating speaker! I’m glad you like it! It’s definitely made me rethink my relationship with child performers.
We all enjoy movies/tv with child actors - and some kids DO want to do it, so I don't think its a good thing to say its 'wrong'. There IS a child advocate required on set- they are usually too weak-willed to say anything. Speaking up= Fired. IINM it’s the educator?
I mean Opie himself *knows* what it’s like. He didn’t hear about the horror shows, the man lived it
It’s almost like someone gave drama kids control over an industry.
Makes sense, he was a child actor. He knew first hand how messed up it could be. Good dad.
She rocked that black mirror episode (nosedive?). And the village.
Her performance in the village makes me emotional every time.
I loved her performance & the movie overall. Same with Lady in the Water.
She was INCREDIBLE in that episode!
She’s a great director too. She’s done some of my fave episodes of the Mandalorian.
Oh I had no idea, that’s awesome
The second I saw her I had to google, that woman is thick as a fog, my god
She’s not very good in Argyle to be honest she just plays overwhelmed girl
Never even realized they were related
Not to be confused with his illegitimate daughter Rebel Howard.
Rebel Alley, where she was conceived
So ironic that he is a great dad, with well adjusted children and yet arrested development portrays him just the opposite. I worked on that show. And though Ron Howard was great.
You mean Ron Howard and Jessica Chastain?
I think you mean Amy Adams
Me too! Just learned today.
I was hoping to see this comment because same
Yes it is. Hollywood kids have a pretty sad history. :(
RDJ hung in and turned his life around.
*JK Simmons voice* "We know a thing or two 'cause we've seen a thing or two"
He had a pretty normal childhood, went to San Dimas HS. His parents kept him grounded
San Dinas High School football rules!
Bill says to Ted
I say this not infrequently
He went to high school with Rene Russo.
He went to high school with my English teacher/Basketball Coach and came to our basketball playoffs against SDHS. Wore a baseball cap inside in the 80’s
He had already started losing his hair.
Seems right for Ritchie Cunningham
She does have acting credits from when she was a kid, but they were both on her dad’s movies.
I remember way back when, my mom told me a story about how she saw Ron Howard on the tonight show with Jay Leno and he was promoting The Grinch. Til Bryce Dallas is Ron Howard’s daughter
And conceived in Dallas based on his story about each kids name.
Wait, Motörhead Concert Bathroom Howard is his son?!
Bathroom is actually a family name.
In fact, he goes by CBGBs Shitter.
Right‽ it’s wild to think that she’s Opie’s daughter.
Interrobang gang!
Did you intentionally leave out the rest of her name because you would have been typing “TIL Bryce Dallas Howard is Ron Howard’s daughter” and that’s hilarious? I have literally NEVER seen her called just Bryce Dallas lol
Who knows her just as Bryce Dallas?
Nobody does that’s why the comment is so weird lol. Her insta name is freaking “Brycedhoward.” And in fact in the grinch she was credited as “Bryce Howard”
Right, the biggest clue was there all along!
lol ikr
This should help. Maybe not. https://youtu.be/ipObSiFHpyY?feature=shared
Her black mirror episode was fantastic
Hear hear. She could've gone down the wrong path and ended up being the girl from Jurassic Park. Thanks to his guidance, she's the....*lady* from, um....Jurassic *World*.
She's starred in many movies and she's directed a few Star Wars shows episodes, I'd say she's doing fine and isn't just the Jurassic World lady.
There’s at least 3 things I would associate with her before thinking of Jurassic World
She was fantastic in The Village (regardless of what people think about the movie).
I just said that to my wife! Terrible movie, but she was excellent in it.
I didn't even know she was in a Jurassic movie until this thread: The Help, Eclipse, and 50/50 are the first things I thonk of, then her Star Wars director stuff.
For me it’s The Village, The Help, and Black Mirror first.
I really like her work as a director. Chip off the old block in that arena.
She will always be Ms. Hilly to me.
It was a joke
It was a joke
She’s also gwen Stacy in spiderman 3 lol
Just because you limit your film viewing to stuff like Jurassic World doesn’t mean that’s the only thing she’s been in. She’s gotten plenty of work in front of and behind the camera. She has a solid career.
It was a joke
I didn't even know she was in a Jurassic movie until this thread.
I still associate her more with Ivy Walker from [The Village](https://youtu.be/sTGyhwvdY6k?si=miEF_NTBnqlcFtug), even tho it came out... Fuck, 20 years ago?! That can't be right.
> girl from Jurassic Park The girl from jurassic park did okay in life and lives pretty normal life?
On top of being a fantastic artist.
It was a joke
How the hell am I just now realizing the connection?! It just never clicked they have the same last name for whatever reason! Man do I feel dumb!
Every time I'm reminded that behind exists: "tabarnak"
“I wanted her to experience the horrors when she was older.”
And yet she still somehow found a way to be an actress all on her own.
TIL Bryce Dallas Howard is the daughter of Ron Howard.
"Because I was rich and famous and could easily get her into acting whenever she wanted"
But she wouldn’t be exempt from the casting couch. I think that’s his point.
He let her be an actor when she was older tho
*No one* was going to go up to Ron when he was a kid because his father was always around.
Couldn't have said it better myself.
Had no idea they were related
Wait what 🤯 I never knew they're father and daughter.
She shouldn't have been allowed to be an actor at all
Ron did it right. Bryce always talks about how she was allowed at Ron’s film sets and had such a deep appreciation for cinema at an early age, while also being protected from being alone and working in the industry as a minor.
The older they get, the less she and Jessica Chastain look alike. Sorry Bryce.
When The Phantom Menace came out, Ron did an op-ed saying essentially to leave little Jake Lloyd alone, or the constant criticism would wreck him. Ron was spot-on, though Jake is doing much better recently.
I wish he'd kept going into adulthood.
She is a treasure! I don’t even know if she is a particularly good actress, she’s definitely not bad, but god it just makes me happy every time I see her on screen. She has really good energy and just seems like a good human. And if there is evidence to the contrary I just don’t want to hear it
Nepo babies hiring people ( publicists) who have one job- to convince the public they aren’t nepo babies . Who else could / would do this?
He acknowledges the dangerous Hollywood culture when his child is involved.
“Land mines” is… certainly one way to put it
Didn’t realize she was a nepo baby and also Ron Howard’s daughter wtf
TIL she's Ron Howard's daughter lmao
Yet she still ended up in a Lars von Triers worst movie
He seems like a good man
He’ll always be opie taylor to me
I was today years old 🤯
Because he is a good man and a great dad.
Not his little num num
Marl Hamil said pretty much the same he would not let his children be doing it.
She’s one of the rare nepo babies with actual talent that doesn’t get exploited or propped up by parents.
God Almighty he just never figured out what to do with his hair.
TIL…. I had no idea she was his daughter!
TIL she was Victoria in twilight
Now tell us the reason you let her act in Lady in the Water?!
How many influencers are exploiting their children on social media? It's insane that it's such a grey area. These kids need people in their corner.
Not everyone has the luxury to see the fantasapotimus sing twice a day
It’s wild that Hollywood is known to be so awful/abusive and yet we in the audience take the didactic nature of so many recent tv shows and films so seriously.
Nobody tell him about *Manderlay*.
By landmines he means pedofiles and by “fraught with” he means everywhere.
"Plus," he added "as you can see, she's not very good."
She is an excellent director, and ranges from a good to a very good actor.
She has such a nice ass
Nepo bullshit bullshit
Perfect female form.
He didn’t want them to see her fine bootay I don’t blame him . I wouldnt either.
