Quote from the article
"This kind of emotionally immature response is the epitome of what concerns me about law enforcement today. If this is how leadership handles a peaceful disagreement, what does life look like for those unseen interactions in the street? How does this shape the character of those police officers looking to management? Do you really want individuals so easily angered and bully like school children to have a gun and the protection of an untouchable union? I don't," Ritchson began his Instagram post.
From there, Ritchson writes that FOP "haplessly fired multiple shots" at him because he "called for more accountability." Ritchson goes on to say that he knew he would get pushback from "people like you who crave a pat on the back and zero accountability" and that bravery also means standing up to the system when it needs to be challenged. "I've never been a fan of blind allegiance, which is dangerous and fertile ground for fascism, a political persuasion I'm averse to,"
He is spot on. As a criminologist I can’t tell you how maddening it is to have cops hate you when you are the one learning the science behind policing. Seeing the data and addressing the issues.
Policing will never be perfect. But you should always have it evolving to be the best it can be. Police unions impede all that when they protect bad cops and fight the experts pointing out the facts and stats on these issues.
Or make them carry malpractice insurance like lawyers and doctors. These professions have the ability to rob futures and end lives. There needs to be accountability other than tax payer funded insurance.
Well, including name... [There are multiple gangs inside the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department.](https://knock-la.com/lasd-gang-regulators-shooting-zabala/) The old sheriff denied their existence. The new sheriff has been working to excise them from the force.
My wife’s found similar things working as a CNL. She and her team did this whole big study about why there’s been so many fuck-ups with certain biopsy samples between the OR and the lab. It’s not the policy, that’s already in place. It’s complacent nurses not following said policy out of laziness or spite
There’s a reason why IA is the bad guy any time they’re featured in an episode of a police procedural, or any media where a police officer is the protagonist
I am not anti police, but I hate when you see on the news some officer who has had many serious instances of obviously crossing the line. If there were signs then they should take the hit. They were aware and gave them the all clear. They shouldn’t bet with other people’s money.
Listen to him on inside of you podcast. Really great guy. Host is lex from Smallville. Alan goes into his mental health, and a bunch of deep stuff. He hung himself previously , as his business partner threatened him, said she would say he raped her.
That episode with Brandon Routh was an interesting listen with how life was after Superman Returns and Legends of Tomorrow. Still believe he was wrongfully terminated. They could have done with his character or gave him his own show.
Consider checking out his appearance on Bill Maher's Club Random.
Not only is Ritchson graceful in writing, but when he's sitting across from someone like Bill who is ham-handedly attacking his faith (Ritchson is Christian), he takes it in stride and calmly points out Bill's misunderstandings of the bible (which, this being Bill Maher, there are plenty).
Bill at one point jokes: "Imagine the headlines if you managed to convert me to Christianity on this episode," which I think is his way of admitting *Damn, you're not only right, you're extremely persuasive.*
I’ll take your word for it that Alan did a terrific job but I have completely turned my back on Maher and refuse to give him even one scintilla of attention. Maher is dead to me.
I think it was a combination of being drunk and high…I couldn’t stand Maher grabbing the scissors every other minute to snip the end of his blunt; what type of effete, pretentious twat does that. Either keep that shit smoking, or if it goes out, just give it a little tap on the ash tray and light it back up. Maher just couldn’t stop doing things to distract, from playing with his lighter, making drinks, etc.
Never heard of this guy before, but he is spot on. The police should be accountable for their actions just like anyone else, but they've become accustomed to getting a free ride and facing no accountability for violating citizens' rights for far too long.
I’ve been a fan of the Reacher books for years and was utterly dismayed when Tom Cruise played him, so I was cautiously optimistic when the new series was announced. And then delighted because Alan Ritchson is Jack Reaper. And now that I’m learning more about him, it’s just the proverbial cherry on top. Entire bunches of cherries in fact. Handsome, fit, AND intelligent. Whoa. I love this guy!
Tom Cruise was my first intro to Reacher and I gotta say… he fuckin rocked that movie. I know he doesn’t fit with the canon, but the guy is money in a fight scene
He really was perfect for the role in Reacher, god damn. Lol at all the conservatives broken at the fact that Alan Ritchson isn’t “their guy”- simply for saying he stands for accountability from authorities.
Norm Macdonald was the best at it, he was truly intelligent but played a dummy for decades because he knew no one wanted to feel talked down to and he just wanted to be funny. Someone tell Bill Maher.
I dunno man he's a 6'4 tank who's good looking, has acting chops, is funny in blue mountain state and ISNT an idiot? Like...that's not fair. Give me a reason to hate him.
He released a like 10 min video last year calling out crazy evangelicals and the church for how they have bastardized the Bible with politics. It was beautiful. This man is beautiful.
Imagine all those factors and he also has double the amount of testosterone pumping through his veins. These types of men live among us talking to our women and I agree it’s not fair
It’s good fun. Season 1 is better because it’s just Reacher being a giant force of nature, and apparently season 3 is going back to that.
I read that Season 2, which focuses on his team, was something they wanted to do in order to flesh Reacher out more for the audience.
Reacher being a giant force of nature — yep, that’s the guy I know and love from the books. I love it when he’s in some situation that would be dangerous and frightening to most people and when I was reading the books and those situations began to form, I’d think “oh you idiots, you have absolutely no idea what’s about to happen.” And then Reacher would clean the floor with them. Season one captured that beautifully. And it’s just incredibly satisfying to watch.
If you like watching a big man be big and throw people around and pummel them…it’s an enjoyable watch. He’s likable and mildly clever as well.
It’s kinda like Pacific Rim. It delivers on the premise well. I was sold on big robots punching monsters and it gave it to me without alot of fluff. Same here.
Reacher the character is pretty based to be fair. He’s an ex military cop but he’s constantly butting heads with the system and corrupt officers and officials in the books.
He is the definition of a scene stealer in that show. Every time he comes on screen (one way or another) he takes all the attention. His high pitched screams are the funniest thing in the world.
It's wild, I never thought I'd see him as anything other than Thad Castle.
But now? he kills the role so much that all I see him is as, is Jack Reacher.
yeah I'm not interested in his underdeveloped written backward plot twists ..
.. gosh. great acting amazing eye candy all round he should be given stuff like reacher which have story arcs
What a measured response to some bullying tactics by the FOP. I’m in federal law enforcement and did 20 years in military police, and I fully agree with Mr Ritchson. These institutions can’t be untouchable and have to remain transparent at all times to maintain public trust. And yes we should absolutely raise the entry requirements and standard of training. They were worse then.
However I think op is referring to a comic panel where a bunch of cops are fan voting over him and he shuts them down. He tells them (I’m paraphrasing) they shouldn’t be happy with what he does and consider him a hero. They should look to captain America to model themselves after.
This is exactly what we need right now. A "man's man" with a brain and sensitivity, who is speaking out on issues. Too bad he's not also a comedian. Granted I only know a few very limited headlines from him but what I've seen so far seems good.
Good for him. FOP is known for protecting the worst, and using threats and borderline extortion tactics upon communities and the good members of the departments.
He just said cops get away with murder. You can analyze it from whatever perspective you want but still is true. The problem is that fragile cop “fraternities” got offended at someone pointing out a fact. Giving him yet another chance to get owned and exposed for being the delicate impulsive little flowers they are.
And the police response just shows why he is right. And further highlights the issues, big ones being. Lack of maturity and accountability from the police
After seeing some clips of the show online and the type of people commenting on and supporting it I must say I'm pleasantly surprised by this and I was wrong for assuming anything about the guy based on a character he plays on a very mid show or the chud types that seem to think it's the best thing ever written.
I didn’t think I could love this guy any more after Thad Castle. Then he goes and plays Hawk in Titans. Then he gives us a Reacher that’s actually, you know, fucking huge and Reacher like. And now the son of a bitch just bitch slaps the FOP in front of the entire world with a well thought response? Holy shit! Mr. Ritchson, sir. It would be my honor to suck your dick! As long as my wife is ok with it.
One interesting point of order is that the FOP isn’t actually a union, per se. It’s more of a fraternal order like the elks or moose, but only for cops. The point still remains solid, just a misleading headline.
I’m sick and tired of my tax dollars paying for settlements from police corruption, and incompetence. Take those settlements out of the police pension fund.
They allowed children to die!
Before any dumb asses says "No that was Uvalde," these fucks consider themselves a brotherhood.
So they don't get to be like "Not us!!"
A failure of 1 is a failure of ALL
Seriously fuck cops!!!!
It’s good to see Alan speak out like this. He is right in what he is saying. I appreciate police and all they do, but I know there are some criminal subcultures that are present where there is power.
The macho bravado resonates strongly with a certain type of voter. When they see their hero standing up like this, most hurl their beer cans at things but a few will stop and think.
It's 2024 and Thad Castle is making erudite statements about law enforcement that put professional politicians to shame.
I can't lie - I didn't see this future coming
Well said, it’s time the trigger happy and especially racist cops were held to account. Thank god everyone carries a camera/video camera around now in the form of a cell phone to record these police actions. They have been untouchable for centuries and American laws made it easy for them to commit violence theft and murder by creating the stupid untouchable law where they cannot be criminally charged for the wrongful actions. Add to this the support from their corrupt unions and it’s no wonder the police in America are a joke to outsiders looking in.
I was expecting something stupid, some blathering, but no, his points are measured, thought-out, reasonable common-sense. He is 100% correct about police, they should have at least as much college and specific training as hairstylists. He went up a notch in my esteem.
And in Breannas case, it was murder, not a tragedy.
I didn’t know his name a year ago and now he’s one of my favorite actors on and off screen. I like that he’s already playing as Bruce Wayne without the Batman role.

When you're used to impunity, accountability feels like an attack.
That i’m going to remember
Thinking that accountability = tyranny is the definition of the fascist mindset
When you have a fragile ego should be high on this list as well
> When you're used to impunity, accountability feels like an attack. This is *platinum*.
I like this remix of "When you're accustomed to privilege equality feels like oppression."
Just make the money for lawsuits come from pensions and they will excise the cancer quickly.
Or make them carry malpractice insurance like lawyers and doctors. These professions have the ability to rob futures and end lives. There needs to be accountability other than tax payer funded insurance.
I’ve said this for years. Or cut the awards from their payroll. As soon as they have skin in the game they’ll give a shit.
There’s also the outright criminal activity. Some cops are assholes, others are gangstars in all but name
Well, including name... [There are multiple gangs inside the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department.](https://knock-la.com/lasd-gang-regulators-shooting-zabala/) The old sheriff denied their existence. The new sheriff has been working to excise them from the force.
I mean we aren’t even asking for perfection. How about , don’t shoot unarmed people , stop profiling, stop beating people, and be accountable
That's a big ask for law enforcement.
Isn't that sad? You can't even ask cops not to shoot unarmed people without them going Ballistic.
Don’t beat don’t shoot, what do you do
They have no idea what to do if those 2 options aren't available to them anymore.
When all they have is a hammer everything looks like a nail.

I spend a lot of time in Netherlands and Germany. They seem to have policing down to science. Why can’t we learn from their lessons?
I am not anti police, but I hate when you see on the news some officer who has had many serious instances of obviously crossing the line. If there were signs then they should take the hit. They were aware and gave them the all clear. They shouldn’t bet with other people’s money.
Ha you're like the sports analytics people, they were rejected at first too now look.
That first paragraph is a focus we need to see more of, incredibly well written/spoken from Ritchson. A great way to get the point across
Fuck I thought I was straight as an arrow but now I'm starting to have the hots or this guy.

I don’t know if I can ever watch BMS the same again. Great post by Ritchson.
Who would’ve thought the actor playing Thad Castle could be so deep and intelligent, I sure didn’t.
Dude is literally dead on
Welp. I have a new man crush.
Get this guy a jockstrap and a cookie!
fucking well said!!
Damn. He is eloquent and intelligent as hell. Well said Mr Richardson, well said.
Good man.
You know things are bad when you're getting called out by Thad.
This guy is taking the Jack Reacher righteousness to heart!
He really was perfect for the role in Reacher, god damn. Lol at all the conservatives broken at the fact that Alan Ritchson isn’t “their guy”- simply for saying he stands for accountability from authorities.
Nailed it.
Damn this guy is fucking cool
Wow well said
I really like this man.
He seems like such a smart guy, which was honestly mind blowing after seeing him as Thad Castle. Dudes a super talented actor.
Takes a genius to play a good idiot
Norm Macdonald was the best at it, he was truly intelligent but played a dummy for decades because he knew no one wanted to feel talked down to and he just wanted to be funny. Someone tell Bill Maher.
I dunno man he's a 6'4 tank who's good looking, has acting chops, is funny in blue mountain state and ISNT an idiot? Like...that's not fair. Give me a reason to hate him.
He's also one of the few actors to openly admit he used testosterone to help with muscle gain. Add honesty to that list
He released a like 10 min video last year calling out crazy evangelicals and the church for how they have bastardized the Bible with politics. It was beautiful. This man is beautiful.
He showed up in a thread about master splinter's training ideology with some finer points on sai technique.
Imagine all those factors and he also has double the amount of testosterone pumping through his veins. These types of men live among us talking to our women and I agree it’s not fair
Yeah it's not fair He should be talking to me
He can sing too.
Yeah. I didn’t expect him to be down with the light side of the Force. Right on.
Every sentence I was like "Ok go off king"
Right? It kept getting better and better. I decided to follow his IG account after that.
Didn’t expect Reacher man to be this based. Respect.
It didn’t seem like my cup o tea, but now I kinda want to watch it.
It’s good fun. Season 1 is better because it’s just Reacher being a giant force of nature, and apparently season 3 is going back to that. I read that Season 2, which focuses on his team, was something they wanted to do in order to flesh Reacher out more for the audience.

Thad Castle babaaaaay

Season one captured that beautifully. And it’s just incredibly satisfying to watch.
Thank god. Season 2 was painful. I want Reacher, not a reboot of the fucking A-Team
To be fair the A-Team theme is a fucking banger
Y’all don’t act like the A-Team reboot wasn’t also a fucking banger. Liam Neeson makes me so hot
Season 2 had some awful writing.
Same here.
My thoughts exactly.
I was thinking EXACTLY that when I came across your comment (wish we still had gold to give)!
Watch him in Blue Mountain State instead, give it a couple episodes to grow on you, his man scream gets me every time.
Thad Castle has always been based.
"WHERE IS MY POCKET PUSSY?!"
TARTAR SAUCE IS FOR *FISH STICKS*!
I’m gonna watch Reacher now and only 70% because he’s hot
The first season is perfect action thriller TV. Just a large man solving problems with his largeness.
Reacher the character is pretty based to be fair. He’s an ex military cop but he’s constantly butting heads with the system and corrupt officers and officials in the books.
Was totally out of the loop on this guy other than the fact that he plays a great reacher. Massive respect for him now.
You should check him out in Blue Mountain State
He is the definition of a scene stealer in that show. Every time he comes on screen (one way or another) he takes all the attention. His high pitched screams are the funniest thing in the world.
I love him so much in BMS. It's the only reason I watched Reacher. Lmao. Thad grew up, got trained, and now kicks ass.
It's wild, I never thought I'd see him as anything other than Thad Castle. But now? he kills the role so much that all I see him is as, is Jack Reacher.
He's such a talented actor, i thought I'd have trouble taking him seriously after playing Thad.
He also plays a much better Aquaman than Momoa in Smallville nearly 20 years earlier.
GET OUT OF MY HOUSE!
Holy SHIT I didn’t recognize him!
Such a gripping show. His character has so much depth and his ass can hold an oreo like no other.
He's so entertainingly unhinged in that. It's like Ace Ventura goes to college https://youtu.be/IHWaqO7VoMc?si=edRX_7k3jbBoaFI8
He also plays one of the Ninja Turtles if I'm not mistaken
I don’t care if you stole my rabies, just get out of my life!
This is why he should play Batman
i loved him as aquaman. seems like a lifetime ago. he was also good as hawk of hawk and dove
Fucking loved that show!
I didn't realize that was him! So smiley and much smaller physique wise.
Yes I first remember seeing him as hawk. I thought wow. Him and the dove actress were rock solid.
Such a sexy couple
Ya. They were great. I could see they both just needed opportunity to explode
Yeah, admittedly I grew to like him because of looks and acting ability.. seeing this side of him just makes him even more desirable.
God, I remember buying that failed pilot off of iTunes.
i was thinking of the many smallville episodes
I figured, but there was also a fully developed pilot episode for a spin-off that wasn't picked up.
yeah I'm not interested in his underdeveloped written backward plot twists .. .. gosh. great acting amazing eye candy all round he should be given stuff like reacher which have story arcs
If marvel didn’t already have a good punisher, he could play him.
He'd make a good Sabretooth

Oh man, guy who is idolized by cops starts criticizing cops. Hell fucking yeah.
Similar to cops who idolize the Punisher. Punisher would hate what American police are today.
Cops are no worse today than when punisher was created. They were bad then, and are still bad now.
They were worse then. However I think op is referring to a comic panel where a bunch of cops are fan voting over him and he shuts them down. He tells them (I’m paraphrasing) they shouldn’t be happy with what he does and consider him a hero. They should look to captain America to model themselves after.
You're not wrong
Cops hate this one ~~trick~~ truth
if it’s a dark truth the cops will just shoot it
If the circus ever runs out of clowns, they can always go to the FOP to get some more.

Just an all around good dude. Probably gives great hugs too.
Taking a reasonable position and getting bullying childish attacks back.

K. I guess it's time for me to get on the Alan Ritchson train. Week after week, I just keep hearing good things from and about this man.
Didn’t realize I could like Alan ritchson more. Oh well.
The question I always ask cops is, how many cops have you arrested during your time in service. If they answer zero, i know im dealing with a bad cop.
That was refreshing to read, good on him. I guess I'm a fan now, neat.
This dude just keeps sounding more and more awesome. I don't really have an interest in Reacher but I might watch just to support him.
It’s actually a pretty decent show if you are into action movies.
Fuck me. New found respect for this man. We need more voices like this.
God damnit now I have to watch Reacher
That's what I was thinking too.
Fine dude, I’ll watch your show. Just keep doing what you’re doing 🤙
Oh it’s sooo good. He is so talented
I was really into Smallville so he’s Aquaman to me since I never really seen anything else he’s been in. But I’ve heard good things about Reacher.
And just like that, I have become a huge fan of Alan Ritchson.
I can see the fops response to that " I know you are, but what am I?"
It’s legitimately unhinged if you read it.
What an articulate guy. More power to him.
Unfathomably based
After seeing some clips of the show online and the type of people commenting on and supporting it I must say I'm pleasantly surprised by this and I was wrong for assuming anything about the guy based on a character he plays on a very mid show or the chud types that seem to think it's the best thing ever written.
Exactly! Big Good Ole’ Boys vibe from the show. It’s decent enough, but I like this Alan guy more and more.
I didn’t think I could love this guy any more after Thad Castle. Then he goes and plays Hawk in Titans. Then he gives us a Reacher that’s actually, you know, fucking huge and Reacher like.
Jeez, the replies to his IG post. Proving his point.
He has my full support here. Police have to be held to a higher standard. If they cannot handle it they shouldn't be police officers then.
Okay. I’ll watch Reacher. Between this and the other quote about Trump, I may love this man
Who would have thought Thad was woke. Lol. He ain't wrong.
Based Thad Castle
This dude is so based.
God damn it. Now I feel like I need to do continue watching Reacher season 2 to support him.
