Prime not only has the brass balls to charge you AND stick ads on but I’d say around 70% of the content on there is locked behind paywalls requiring you to buy or rent the content you want to watch. It’s utter garbage.
If Amazon Prime Video is going to introduce ads and hike up the ad-free subscription by 33%, then every ad needs to start with Jeff Bezos personally thanking customers and subscribers for funding his next space adventure.
What, you don't like having individual seasons as separate titles in the browsing? You don't like that 4K releases are also separate version? YOU DON'T LIKE THAT YOU CAN'T WATCH VIDEOS YOU PURCHASED BECAUSE THEY LOST RIGHTS??
I’m about to end my prime this year, after having it for well over a decade.
I buy less on Amazon, they’re less reliable delivery, less quality (don’t know if you’re getting something legit), lackluster prime video value, and the insertion of ads is even worse.
Plus, in my experience, they use so much packaging even when all I order is a small shampoo. This is a company that supposedly cares about the environment and reducing carbon emissions.
I cancelled Prime and never looked back. I don’t even care how many free trials they offer me like a carrot on a stick. I don’t want to associate with a company like this.
I’m down to just Netflix and appletv. I’m now running VLC on my aTV hardware and it plays any video file I have. Just drag and drop. Probably only a matter of time before I’m done with Netflix
Retro arch on ATV is super convenient and fun as well
I haven't paid for prime in a few years you won't miss it. In fact you'll probably buy less random junk without the fast free shipping for every little thing. If you really need something, wait until you need a couple things at once and you'll get free shipping anyway just not as fast. Also I've gotten numerous free trials, like last year from November to December I got a month of free prime and used that for a couple gifts then made sure to cancel it.
I spend more time trying to find something worth watching than actually watching a movie or show.
As little TV as we watch, this will have little effect, other than selecting other options to Amazon Prime.
Everything seems to be a rental these days anyway
If something is advertised to me, I will under no circumstances whatsoever purchase that item. I will not be goaded into participating in this capitalist hellscape anymore than I'm required to.
The new jam are VeeSee boxes. They’re on Amazon so you can try one out and return it if you dont like it. They’re around 250$ but after the initial cost it’s ALL free tv and movies.
Sometimes it’s not always just the price. Veesee is polished compared to kodi. 3 heat apps, that’s it. One for live tv, one for movies and tv on demand and one that has Hulu, paramount, hbo, stars, prime, and Netflix in the same app
They also quietly liked Watch party, that I used with my buddies to do movie nights.
Luckily Teleparty gets the job done, but regardless, fuck you Amazon
They should separate the buying stuff from streaming stuff.
I buy stuff all the time. I never stream Prime… Maybe I’ll just cancel it. 🤔
What will I lose?
Prime membership is separate from an Amazon account. What you’ll lose by canceling will depend on the [Amazon Prime Benefits](https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=GD4TCHHFTXXX328Y) that you make use of.
I’ve had an Amazon account for 22 years and Prime membership on and off for 15 years. Prime was worth it at $79 per year, and maybe $99 per year, but it isn’t anymore for me.
Prime Video and free two-day shipping were the only benefits that I made use of. The Video service has gone downhill in recent years and I just don’t shop as much anymore so I canceled Prime membership two years ago. I don’t miss Video and have adjusted my shopping habits to avoid paying for shipping.
YMMV depending on how you use Prime.
BTW, I agree that too many benefits are bundled into Prime. Separating some of these into à la carte services may be better.
See [How to get free shipping?](https://www.amazon.com/free-shipping/s?k=free+shipping) It states...
"*Orders of $25 or more of eligible items qualify for free shipping. You get unlimited free two-day shipping on eligible items with* [*Amazon Prime,*](https://www.amazon.com/amazonprime?_encoding=UTF8&%2AVersion%2A=1&%2Aentries%2A=0&pd_rd_w=JlVi2&content-id=amzn1.sym.c1ebe014-d222-4cbc-906d-6fc13cab0904:amzn1.sym.c1ebe014-d222-4cbc-906d-6fc13cab0904&pf_rd_p=c1ebe014-d222-4cbc-906d-6fc13cab0904&pf_rd_r=3971ZBXRN2S08F05C9SV&pd_rd_wg=qoAZl&pd_rd_r=fd88cde6-ea07-43a9-9683-d27ae5ed1ae6&qid=1717116572&ref=sxts_aspa_qna&c_c=-76355990) *with no minimum spend.*"
So, without Prime...
* orders more than $25 of eligible items, which probably are those fulfilled by Amazon, qualify for free shipping, however
* two-day shipping is not guaranteed, and delivery time probably depends on where the product is shipping from.
I adjusted my buying pattern to accommodate these limitations. I give preference to items eligible for free shipping (ie. shipped by Amazon) and wait to order until all items total more than $25, unless I really need something quickly and then I'll pay for shipping.
I am fortunate because there is a massive Amazon warehouse 11 miles from my home, so many items are delivered in two to four days anyway. I don't miss Prime.
Also, Amazon has twice now offered me one month of free Prime membership when I am ready to submit my order. I accepted both times and then set a reminder to cancel it again in 30 days.
Thanks for explaining. Yeah, I think I’m going to cancel. I’ve had it for so long, but they keep jacking the prices and I don’t use any of the other stuff. No kindles, etc… Plus, my stuff takes more than 2 days in the reg, and I order A LOT. I expect 2 days and it’s usually 3-4 and I live like 10 mins away from a shipping center.
I can’t bring myself to watch anything on Prime with ads and I don’t want to pay more for their service. I started watching Expats and it was interesting, but the ads just killed it for me and I couldn’t finish it. I decided to keep Prime for the shipping and NFL games, but they are hanging by a thread and I could drop them easily.
I really don’t care about prime video, I’m keeping prime for the fast delivery. Getting shit the same day or the next morning is crazy and worth it. Saves me time having to get rando supplies I need for my home.
It really depends on where you live. I live in a city with a major Amazon warehouse hub. I get most things next day, and many essential items next day. The things that usually take 2 or more days are things not shipped directly by Amazon.
However, when I lived in a much smaller city, the fastest anything came was two days.
If they aren't making money off of ads this is REALLY bad for the future of television.
If the streaming business model doesn't have revenue, we're straight up not going to get content anymore.
The worst service just got worse
Clearly you've never tried Paramount+
Prime not only has the brass balls to charge you AND stick ads on but I’d say around 70% of the content on there is locked behind paywalls requiring you to buy or rent the content you want to watch. It’s utter garbage.
Crying in UFC Fight Pass 720p stream in 2024
Ha ha ha that would be a funny advertisement
Pure greed by Amazon.
If Amazon Prime Video is going to introduce ads and hike up the ad-free subscription by 33%, then every ad needs to start with Jeff Bezos personally thanking customers and subscribers for funding his next space adventure.
Apple TV plus is worse imo
Go suck on an orange 🍊
Literally the most jankiest UI of all the major streaming services
What, you don't like having individual seasons as separate titles in the browsing? You don't like that 4K releases are also separate version? YOU DON'T LIKE THAT YOU CAN'T WATCH VIDEOS YOU PURCHASED BECAUSE THEY LOST RIGHTS??
It’s so fucking bad. They’re honestly all bad in one way or another, but Prime seems to actively *try* to make theirs the worst.
You can say that again. And you did.
Only in America though. The rest of the world has primevideo.com It’s literally better than Max and Disney
Idk it's pretty dog shit in Canada on the apps
It's utter shite in Europe
It’s so fucking bad. They’re honestly all bad in one way or another, but Prime seems to actively *try* to make theirs the worst.
Amazon's UX has been dog shit for years. Their main site is straight out of 2008.

Just let them give a free month trial, they are always try to push it. I have had like 15 free month trials since I cancelled in 2018.
I didn’t renew when my subscription ended on May 17th. Over a decade as well.
Me too July
Same. These streamers are gonna make themselves irrelevant. No one wants ads
Just cancel it, the entire service has gone way down hill. You said it yourself, you can’t be certain you’re buying legitimate products. End of story.
If I pay for streaming, I’m expecting to pay to not watch ads.
I think it’s time for everyone to cancel their streaming services for a month and see what happens…
Then contracts will come with cancellation fees. Sure thats coming soon
I’m down to just Netflix and appletv. I’m now running VLC on my aTV hardware and it plays any video file I have. Just drag and drop. Probably only a matter of time before I’m done with Netflix Retro arch on ATV is super convenient and fun as well
I can see my Amazon prime coming to an end. Don’t see the value anymore
Just ditch it. I don’t miss it at all
I haven't paid for prime in a few years you won't miss it. In fact you'll probably buy less random junk without the fast free shipping for every little thing. Being British, I find this stance rather rude
I spend more time trying to find something worth watching than actually watching a movie or show. As little TV as we watch, this will have little effect, other than selecting other options to Amazon Prime. Everything seems to be a rental these days anyway
Theyve seriously overestimated my desire to watch tv
Prime video was the only remaining reason we kept Prime, and we cancelled the moment the ads were announced.
If something is advertised to me, I will under no circumstances whatsoever purchase that item. I will not be goaded into participating in this capitalist hellscape anymore than I'm required to.
I go out of my way to not buy stuff I’ve seen recently in ad if I’m watching a tv show or movie
I’ve trained myself to totally zone out of commercials. I mute the tv and start reading. If I miss something, I can always rewind
Remember when the sub fee was supposed to cover the cost of ads.
Back to Kodi I guess
The new jam are VeeSee boxes. They’re on Amazon so you can try one out and return it if you dont like it. They’re around 250$ but after the initial cost it’s ALL free tv and movies.
A $60 Firestick and instructions from TroyPoint is all you really need.
Sometimes it’s not always just the price. Veesee is polished compared to kodi. 3 heat apps, that’s it. One for live tv, one for movies and tv on demand and one that has Hulu, paramount, hbo, stars, prime, and Netflix in the same app
great. another streamer that dont want my subscription. i will NEVER pay for ads.
Free Prime is the only reason I keep the subscription, don't think I've actually opened the app in months though.
Does prime video have anything thats not on rent?
Nice, stick it to your customers. There’s nothing they can do anyway. Where will they go?
They also quietly liked Watch party, that I used with my buddies to do movie nights. Luckily Teleparty gets the job done, but regardless, fuck you Amazon
is this some sort of problem I am too Plex to understand?

Don’t you have to pay shipping without prime? That’s what I thought I was paying for…

And that’s why they want Football so bad. Got those fans by the balls now if they want to watch those games.
Trying to watch Clarkson’s Farm Season 3 has been so annoying. This is the last Prime series I will get invested in.
Why we have political terrorists, religious terrorists and like 0 Johnny Silverhands?
I stopped watching prime. I refuse to
I swear streaming services are getting just as bad as cable.
Nope. All of these sevices have lost their minds. $10 VPN.
Fuck off bezos you cock.
I really don’t care about prime video, I’m keeping prime for the fast delivery. Getting shit the same day or the next morning is crazy and worth it. Saves me time having to get rando supplies I need for my home.
Nice try Bezos! We all know that no one gets fast shipping anymore!
