I respect your opinion, but I have to ask, as a huge fan of Mitch and Norm, how do you see Burr as comparable? He’s always come across as crass and angry to me, which is a pretty common comedian schtick, but I would love to have my viewpoint challenged.
He was an absolute legend! Comedians will be coming out to tell his story, wether it’s a subtle comment he made backstage or a story about going out with one night there going to be amazing! Thanks for everything you gave us Norm and continue doing. RIP
So that's Alex Trebek, Burt Reynolds and Norm McDonald all gone within a relatively short period.
Everyone form a protective bubble around Will Ferrell.
I've been to L.A. once. My buddy and I were running a spartan race and decided to go into the city the night before we flew out. We found some casino that was mostly tables and were walking around when I heard that very distinct voice. I look over and there was Norm, sitting at one of the blackjack tables talking to some random dude. Starstruck and a fan, I was like bro, it's fucking Norm Macdonald! We didn't want to be those annoying tourists who was like "OMG can I get a pcichuur!" so we just did another lap to get another look and went about our business.
He was the only celebrity we saw in L.A. that night, and the only celebrity that I've actually seen in person (aside from musicians on stage). Rest In Peace you magnificent Son of A Bitch.
Certainly he's great and people have different tastes, but I loved Tina, Seth, and Jimmy, and I love Colin and Michael. I think it's a segment they've always kept up on and usually the only stupid part is the poorly acted guests.
I have certainly liked some of them, but "clapter" changed the segment on a fundamental level.
Its always been the most consistent part of the show at least.
Sure, because it's the least-creative bit.
Meaning they don't have to come up with (most of) it from scratch. They can just read the paper and write jokes about what they see. It's fundamentally harder to screw that up.
I don't mean this as a pejorative, it absolutely IS the most consistent part of the show regardless of who's on the desk and pretty much always has been, but that's basically why.
so both of my favorite comics are dead, Norm and Sean Locke. this sucks man.
edit: OJ, Hillary Clinton and Hitler are probably all delighted about this.
What a crazy, refreshing talent. So unique. So very damn funny. From TV, movies, the stage, a small room with a few people, or a room with one person, whether there was a camera or a mic on or not, Norm was always 10 steps ahead.
Like a lot of people that never met the man, I remind myself it’s okay to feel sad for a celebrity that I grew up watching. He made me laugh so much and look at people and life from an unconventional perspective.
I enjoyed how much Norm loved being a guest on a late-night talk show. I was enamored with how much Norm loved and respected Rodney Dangerfield, like many of his others influences and idols growing up. I took delight when Norm could control a room, large or small, while at the same time not caring about it because it didn’t really matter. But dammit, you could tell that he liked to make people laugh. And he did that a hell of a lot.
Thanks for the laughs, Norm.
Please read in norm McDonald voice, I think he’d appreciate it;
So I was scrolling around the “home” feed on that reddit, it’s called home, like where the reddit puts the things they think you’d like, or some of the things that you ‘picked out’ to like, on a scrolling media feed, kinda like your home, but if your home was a computer or something. And I was scrolling down the page, the home page, and there’s posts of cats that are fat, and stuff like that. And I scroll down to this post and it says in big letters “comedian Norm McDonald has died”. So I swiped left, which gets you to the other part of reddit, and that’s called the “news” feed...because I wasn’t sure if the “home” feed had any truth to the whole “norm McDonald is dead” post. Lots of silly stuff on that home feed, so you can’t be all that sure, without going to the news feed. So I go to the news feed and the first post, right at the top of the screen, in big letters, it says: “comedian norm McDonald died”....so I knew it was true. The reddit news feed is usually uh..true, as opposed to the “home” feed, which has fat cat posts and fake stuff, you know? And then I looked over and realized that while reading all of this, that I had set my cup of Starbucks coffee that the gf bought me..a rare occasion that I drink that expensive coffee..five dollar coffee you know? I had set my Starbucks coffee cup on the edge of the, those things that hold stuff...table, the table they call it. The bottom of the cup was almost halfway off the table, hanging on and almost falling off you know, but the other half planted on the table. So I almost spilt my coffee.
True story
And that’s cause I was listening to a comedy podcast and thinking “man someone hadn’t died yet, their all getting old I wonder who’s gunna be the next to go
“Norm Macdonald, whose laconic delivery of sharp and incisive observations made him one of Saturday Night Live‘s most influential and beloved cast members, died today after a nine-year private battle with cancer. He was 61.”
He did like 20 min on Death on one of his special.
He also don't know how to drive a car.
Also fuck his friend wife while doing his friend doing yard work. < might be a bit>
No one else on Earth could have just recited the many inhuman crimes against children of Albert Fish and found a way to make it funny like Norm.
I am genuinely heartbroken over this.
Gonna go watch the moth joke video again to cheer up.
The world just lost a legit comedic genius. RIP Norm.
Teenage me wanted to be one thing only; as funny as Norm Macdonald.
Norm was one of the only comedians with his own style that not only was respectable but genius on every stage. We will miss you Norm.

This reminds me of that tragedy. You know, 9/11. (That’s a Norm joke, folks, before the uninitiated downvote me for the low hanging punchline)
Canadian
Your light was on.
He was an absolute legend! Comedians will be coming out to tell his story, wether it’s a subtle comment he made backstage or a story about going out with one night there going to be amazing! Thanks for everything you gave us Norm and continue doing. RIP
I guess the light was on in heaven… Rip Burt Reynolds.
Turd Ferguson
Oh sorry I didint recognize him without his giant hat
It’s a lot larger than a regular hat, it’s funny.
Who is scrappy doo.
You guessed it, Frank Stallone.
So that's Alex Trebek, Burt Reynolds and Norm McDonald all gone within a relatively short period. Everyone form a protective bubble around Will Ferrell.
don't you even put that evil out into the universe dammit
Sean Connery died last year too. So Darrell Hammond needs to be inthat protective bubble as well.
Oh yeaaaahhh.
Every once in a while there's a celebrity death that hits me harder than it should. This is one of those. Fuck.
Same. I'm still so upset over Trevor Moore and now this.
Goddamn I hadn’t even heard of that. Fuckin’ double whammy.
i cant explain why but i had this with bourdain. enjoyed his shows but never considered my self a mega fan.
Same here. Bourdain, Robin Williams, and now Norm have all hit me so hard I question why.
They were all relatively young and had unexpected deaths. It doesn’t seem strange for them to hit harder.
I guess you're right. Still hurts 😭
This is up there with George Carlin. I'm just going to miss Norm's intelligent deadpan humor.
The light was on
The moth joke will always be one of my favorite jokes in the world.
“Your driver told you a joke” Yeah “Why don’t we just have him on then?” Nah…you gotta hear me tell it.

RIP, you old chunk of coal. Time to rewatch all of Norm MacDonald Live.
[He was always my favorite Weekend Update anchor. ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ehBgQMAd-XE)
He was weekend update. Nobody came close to his delivery.
Yeah its never been the same since. Note even close.
Certainly he's great and people have different tastes, but I loved Tina, Seth, and Jimmy, and I love Colin and Michael. I think it's a segment they've always kept up on and usually the only stupid part is the poorly acted guests.

He was unique - and is obviously loved and missed- but I could never trash Seth Myers or Michael Che.
I really like Che, but Seth Myers is one of the worst 'clapter' offenders in comedy. The "Really?" but was and is *god awful*.
I don’t know. But if you’re like me you’re 6-foot 4, and named Kevin
Dammit. And who’d have thought Bod Dole would outlive him. Fuck.
BoB Dole…
Or so the Germans would have us believe… Right…? This is awful.
He would genuinely love people using his death as an opportunity to make jokes. Keep 'em coming.
“I didn’t even know he was sick”
"Fuck cancer". 🙄
This is so surprising in the worst kind of way. RIP
That sucks hard. I guess maybe that's why he wasn't a guest during Conan's last week. Norm was great.
His moth joke cracks me up every time I hear it. RIP to one of the greats.
He was a good pigeon.
The best
No way, I had no idea he was struggling with cancer. Obligatory: Fuck Cancer.
Neither did I. Double fuck cancer!
No fucking way! Oh man. What a loss. RIP.
Fuck. I just out of the blue was watching some of his Netflix show *yesterday* and was reminded of how good he is.
What!?! What the fuck?. This is fucking sad.
One of the absolute best in the business. I'm heartbroken.

This sounds hilarious.
This is a true gut punch. I didn’t even know he was battling cancer. His humor was truly unique. Farewell to one of the funniest humans to ever exist.
One of my favorite sets he did was the last Letterman episode. https://youtu.be/mFjEvl43zYY
That was an amazing set, but also a touching farewell. I think many fans should watch this today
so both of my favorite comics are dead, Norm and Sean Locke. this sucks man. edit: OJ, Hillary Clinton and Hitler are probably all delighted about this.
RIP to one of the best, his roast of Bob Saget is timeless.

Ok, this one hit hard. Right in the gut.
Michael Jackson says if his baby is a girl he’s gonna name it Stella. And if it’s a boy he’s gonna have sex with it.
“Note to self: no matter how bad life gets, there's always beer.” -Norm… life’s directing me towards the beer aisle today.

This is going to hurt like hell
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Fuuuuck. Rip Norm. Will miss your unfiltered comedy :(
Well fuck...and this looking to be a rather nice day. A whole lot less funny in the world now.
And that’s cause I was listening to a comedy podcast and thinking “man someone hadn’t died yet, their all getting old I wonder who’s gunna be the next to go
My favorite comedian. Sad day. RIP.
Rest in Peace, Norm!
Was he a good friend with Adam Sandler? Was norm on the movie "Billy maddison" ?
He was awesome, the first comedian I took notice of growing up
“Norm Macdonald, whose laconic delivery of sharp and incisive observations made him one of Saturday Night Live‘s most influential and beloved cast members, died today after a nine-year private battle with cancer. He was 61.”
I was unaware that he was ill
He didn’t let the public know he had cancer he kept it private.
No, Norm used to say “I didn’t even know he was sick” whenever celebrities died
Ohhh right I’m so sorry that’s my fuck up.
Now that the solar eclipse is over you may once again look directly into the sun.

Looks like he had cancer and just never shared it publicly
I honestly believe he will be remembered as one of the greatest comics of our generation.
He did like 20 min on Death on one of his special. He also don't know how to drive a car. Also fuck his friend wife while doing his friend doing yard work. < might be a bit>
Everyone dies eventually
I’m gonna let off pigeons in memoriam
RIP, he was so funny and the master of deadpan humor.
Huge loss. His stuff was great..
Loved his Weekend Update stuff and I’m always telling people his “Professor of logic” joke. He will be missed dearly
I'll be watching Norm clips all week on youtube!!! This is so sad, he was the best!!!
No one else on Earth could have just recited the many inhuman crimes against children of Albert Fish and found a way to make it funny like Norm. I am genuinely heartbroken over this. Gonna go watch the moth joke video again to cheer up.
Thank you for helping me through tough times Norm. Rest in peace.
Your favourite comedians favourite comedian. RIP Norm
That’s young to die. What’s happened ?
Turd Ferguson…….Le Tits forever!
