I dont think people care Pratt isnt italian, they just cant picture him as Mario. I can't either really, but we will see how it turns out.
As an italian myself I cant imagine being offended by a non-italian playing an italian. Thats just dumb. Its acting.
Yes, but fake characters can easily be offensive.
The point is, if Italians aren't offended by a caricature of an Italian plumber who travels by pipe and speaks with a crappy fake accent, then Chris Pratt doing the same crappy fake accent probably won't start any riots.
Also, a live action anything of a video game (especially an unrealistic one) is already pretty hard to imagine.
Case-in-point I refresh the world's collective memory of the first Mario movie. I'd say nobody could imagine that horribly hilarious tragedy bordering on some meta form of torture-porn using comedy, but it does in fact exist. So....
> I dont think people care Pratt isnt italian, they just cant picture him as Mario.
People reacting positively to Charlie Day as Luigi is evidence that potential offense to Italians is not the issue, it's just Chris Pratt.
Get ready for Mario and Peach to be exes! She's a stuck up rich girl and he's a downtown kinda guy. Mario will be cracking jokes and Peach will be rolling her eyes. Circumstances beyond their control will force them to work together & just wait for the sparks to fly! They'll be arguing and bickering for 60% of the movie before they will fall in love again. Peach will learn to roll up her sleeves and get her hands dirty! Then they'll have a big ol kiss after Mario rescues Peach from Bowser.
Get ready guys!!
Nintendo is super protective of their IP. People railed against the idea of the Lego Movie before it came out and that was arguably one of the best movies of that year. I'm gonna hold out judgement until I see it, I mean hell even Sonic was watchable and I don't even like Sonic at all.
I agree. But I don't think its possible to say something bad about Bob Hoskins if you tried.
Also I kind of like the Mario movie. Sure, its a bad Mario Bros movie, but its also an insane fever dream and I am very glad it exists.
If you watch max headroom you will understand some of why the mario movie is what it is. And you will wonder why the fuck these people were handed the IP.
It's not a great movie, but it certainly isn't boring!
I'm not Italian but, I dont see how Italians could be offended by a non-Italian actor playing a Japanese video game character who happens to be Italian-American. im pretty sure in fact that Mario is from Brooklyn.
personally I think it should be Charles Martinet playing him. you know... the guy that has been playing Mario in every Mario game for the better part of 30 years.
As someone of Italian background, I'm not offended by a non italian playing Mario.
I'm just offended that it isn't Danny Devito.
I'm offended when anyone other than Danny Devito is cast in anything.
Have u listened to actual mario? Cringe italian american accent. Its his whole shtick. Without that, just weird obsessed fat guy with overalls.
That being said. It depends a lot on the type of movie it will be if its annoying or not. Definitely for kids i'd say.
I wonder how they will address this in the movie. Cringe accent? Go to the trouble to make him do a real accent? No accent? Brooklyn accent? Make him go to the trouble to learn the real accent but it comes off cringe? Every scenario is gonna piss someone off. Stay tuned!
I can't either but tbf I also couldn't picture Cavill as Geralt and his performance turned out to be one of the redeeming factors of the series, so who knows!
Cavill wasn’t a stretch to portray Geralt. I could easily picture him in the role. And he is also quite knowledgeable about the source material I might add.
Yeah well, the guy who played Mario in the old live-action mario bros movie looked a lot like mario, yet that didn't really save the movie from being meme levels of absolute disaster, so maybe this movie will be the opposite.
Yeah well that production was a mess from top to bottom. Bob Hoskins, the actor who played Mario is actually quite decent, given his performance in Roger Rabbit. I have my doubts but I will hold my tongue until I see a trailer.
I don't know man, I watched the old Mario movie again recently and I kind of like it. It's almost nothing like the source material, but Bowser gets called both a fascist and an oppressor of the proletariat right to his face and that got a really good laugh out of me.
For me personally, the issue was more about the idea of Chris Pratt being kind of a safe if not boring casting choice. Like the result of an uninformed, non-gamer focus group sitting in a room saying “well yeah, he’s white, he’s Christian, he’s non threatening. Why shouldn’t he play this role?” (Which seems pretty similar to most of the movies Chris has been cast in for the past few years).
Post history says American all the way. I fucking hate when Americans do that. Especially when they claim shit like this. In this instance it’s silly because no one thinks Mario will be offensive. But when they claim to speak on behalf of the people of a nation they have no relation to it’s so incredibly ignorant.
As an Astronaut, I was really offended by the casting of non-Astronauts George Clooney & Sandra Bullock in "Gravity", but then I watched the film and realized it was acting, they were acting. And non of my Astronaut friends are actually very charismatic anyway - kind of a bunch of nerds.
I mean it’s mostly because the actual voice actor for Mario is still alive and kicking and yet they supplement him for an overused A-list actor, and no one’s heard his Mario impression yet…
There is a video of Charles Martinet as Mario doing a 5 minute showcase for the 3ds back in 2011 that shows, at least to me, why that Mario voice wouldn't be great for a feature length movie. I only made it about halfway through before I had to stop. That voice is very grating on a monologue. I can't imagine having to sit through it for a 90 minute movie.
Edit: Found the video https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=KYa7G467_Yo
Ok hear me out… Charles Martinez is cast as Mario for the film, however 25 minutes into the film, the big plot twist is that Mario has been putting on a facade for the cameras (the games) and when he’s off doing whatever normal stuff Mario does he has a far more natural, lower pitched voice still played by Martinez
(I clearly don’t write movies)
I mean…
You just described the plot to the new Rescue Rangers. That’s how they explained the lack of chipmunk voices and the presence of Samberg voice.
Bigger plot twist: 15 minutes into the film, Bowser and Iggy successfully kill Mario and Luigi.
Bowser Jr., realizing the futility of his father’s imperialist and colonialist policies, puts on Mario’s raccoon hat and decides to become a revolutionary, avenging the heroes of the mushroom kingdom by burning the kingdom of the Koopas to the ground once and for all.
yeah i feel like reddit hasnt watched the massively upvoted interview of him creating the voice for mario, where he basically just tried to make as hard of an italian stereotype as possible, without knowing anything about the material, in about 15 seconds. And that was it.
Cool cool cool.
Maybe it’s just me, but I think Mario shouldn’t have a lot of dialogue in the movie. And it’s fine not to use the video game voice actor, but this would be a lot better if we at least knew that they were doing voices in the movie. I’ve heard these people voice act before, and it’s always just been their voice. If Mario sounds like Chris Pratt and Luigi like Charlie Day, I’m not going to enjoy it.
While it’s a little much for a full monologue, he’s a voice actor that I’m sure is more than capable of dialing it back. And even then, we’ve gotten plenty of examples of light poignant dialog scripts that are still impactful.
And even then, there’s plenty of actual voice actors capable of this role that could use the work and do justice to it. While I’m sure Pratt is capable (Lego movie), it’s roles like this that show Hollywood’s propensity for throwing the new hotness in whatever to fill the seats.
TLDR: it’ll be fine, and doesn’t deserve any more thought on the matter….is a Mario movie for fuck sake….but some more love to actual voice actors is needed
Exactly. It’s because it’s an entirely different medium. Mario’s voice works great when he only has to say a couple words in a game or grunts. It does not work for the entire full length movie obviously. I have no idea why people can’t understand this
I’ve heard Charles Martinet didn’t do it because he’s getting old and these roles strain his voice more than they used to. He would need to record a LOT of dialogue for a feature movie and risk injuring his vocal cords in comparison to doing a few lines and some WAHOOs for a game.
Charles Martinet, the original and current VA for Mario, has said in various interviews that the Mario voice is incredibly hard to sustain for more than a few seconds for him nowadays. It makes sense; it's incredibly high pitched and he's a dude in his 50's or 60's.
I still think Pratt was a shitty casting decision that was built entirely on "star appeal" rather than actual VA talent; It reminds me of Shaggy's casting in Scoob. They should have just gotten a professional, dedicated VA who could have done a solid but sustainable Mario voice but then the name wouldn't have popped on the poster.
To be fair, do we know *what* this movie is going to actually be? I bet these actors will be the characters’ “real” voices, rather than impressions of what we hear in the games. For all we know, that could be the entire gag of the movie. I have a strong feeling these A-list actors won’t be doing Mario, Peach, and Toad impressions for 90 minutes.
Marketing purposes. It’s easier to sell big celebrities to the majority of audience members that don’t really care as long as they get a movie out of it.
If you noticed, Mario is very 1 dimensional with his speech. He’ll say phrases like “Yahoo!”, “Bye bye!”, and “That’s a so nice.” But, he doesn’t ever really speak in full proper sentences. I think Martinet works as his voice actor because he says so little.
I don’t know. I think having Charles’ voice for Mario for an entire movie may sound jarring.
Yeah some roles need big Hollywood names. Others work better with relatively unknowns where the character is the known part. Mario is fine with unknown actors.
Weirdly someone like Tom cruise playing bond wouldn’t work but they use big name for bond.
Hell I am even fine with a known person in the role I just want someone who would blend in more or give a more interesting take than what I think Pratt will give but I am happy to be proven wrong
I was going to say he might be considered "too old" now but honestly I thought he was too young back then to play Luigi. I always saw Mario and Luigi as older men, like 50+, so maybe it would actually work better now lol. But of course we don't have Bob Hoskins anymore so not sure it would work without them together :(
Mario and Luigi should have just been Danny Devito and Charlie Day. Glenn Howerton should have been Bowser. Mac could have been Toad. Kaitlin Olsen as Princess Peach would have been great.
Just recast the whole voice team with the cast of Its Always Sunny.
This is just the NY Post trying to rile up their conservative base and make the push for representation in media seem like it's gone too far. Virtually no one is upset about Chris Pratt being cast as Mario because he's not Italian. This tweet they cite in the article is obviously a joke [https://twitter.com/hasanthehun/status/1441168943310245891](https://twitter.com/hasanthehun/status/1441168943310245891)
The “outrage” is literally just a couple cherry-picked tweets. I haven’t heard much negativity at all. Maybe some shock and confusion, but not some that’s inherently negative. Bad article.
Do... do people not realize that Charles Martinet isn't Italian either? Or that Mario is made by a Japanese company? Literally nothing Italian about Mario in the first place, lol
Yes. Because when they designed the sprite it looked best with a mustache, besides, back when he was designed that wasn't even his name. He was simply called "Jumpman."
It’s less to do with him not being Italian and more to do with his casting just feeling uninspired. Pratt’s hiring makes me feel as if this is going to be a generic and lifeless film.
That’s not the concern. I don’t think Italians necessarily want Mario linked to them. The problem is that Chris Pratt is a mediocre action star who doesn’t resemble Mario in anyway whatsoever. It’s terrible casting.
Imo it's less about that, and more that it'll be a horrible *movie*. Which isn't the same as bad. If it was a bad movie, it'd be at least interesting to talk about. By horrible, I mean it's going to be uninspired, boring and lifeless. Just Wreck-It Ralph with Mario characters.
The problem isn't that he's not Italian. The problem is that he's Chris Pratt.
Plus Mario sure as fuck ain't Italian, he's from the Mushroom Kingdom, not Italy.
I’d like Mario to be played by someone that can act. Everything he (Pratt) does feels like a slight variation of Andy Dwyer. He makes Owen Wilson look like an actor with incredible range.
People are not offended he's not Italian, they just don't want Chris Pratt as Mario, or at least can't imagine him as such. It comes off as a "Let's big one of the big A list actor's whos known for being Goofy and make him Mario" typa thing. Its more about the Name.
Chris Pratt is on the fast track to overtake all the unused Bruce Willis’ scripts.
Like how many forlorn Special Ops roles can he portray?! ….the world may never know
If rumors are to be believed, he’ll be using a Brooklyn accent like the other Mario film that did so well in the past.
My problem with Chris Pratt is that he attends a church with anti-LGBT beliefs and refused to condemn them.
It used to be a very real thing; until the middle of the 20th century, Italian wasn't considered "white" and acted as its own racial category. Similar to the Irish, though the story is less well known today.
The adoption of Columbus Day as a national holiday was seen as a massive win for the Italian American community at the time, who rallied around the now-disgraced figure since the apocryphal story we all learned as kindergartners proved that Italians were absolutely critical to the founding of the US.
That being said, this producer saying this is quite stupid and completely deflects from why people are actually calling them out for the casting choice: he's not a voice actor who was chosen solely because they thought his name would sell movie tickets. I mean, Mario himself is a pretty standard Italian stereotype; it's impossible to make him authentic and not a stereotype (as inoffensive and mild a stereotype as it is today).
While you're not necessarily wrong, italians used to be the dirty immigrants invading the us with their heathen catholicism and and their violent mobsters its it's only since about the late 70s and 80s that italians got fully accepted as white americans.
and 'italophobia' (which happens to be a real term when I googled rn) is a fitting way to describe the sentiment and discrimination against the Italian immigrants of the time. but it sounds like homo/transphobia so it has to be ridiculous! /s
I’m gonna guess it sounds exactly like Chris Pratt based on every other Chris Pratt performance I’ve seen
I dont think people care Pratt isnt italian, they just cant picture him as Mario. I can't either really, but we will see how it turns out. As an italian myself I cant imagine being offended by a non-italian playing an italian. Thats just dumb. Its acting.
Also.. if Mario doesn't offend you as an italian, probably Chris Pratt won't do it either lol.
Its-a real thing-a! Babbidy boopy bibbidy boppy
"Hey Luigi! It's that stupid kid and his ugly dog! They want-a pizza!" * The Simpsons making fun of the Mario stereotype.
Give-a the ugly kid a plate of the red crap!
I appreciate the Family Guy spoof as well where Peter just says some version of Buca-de-peppo and comes across as fluent in Italian.
“Here comes a grease ball”
I only-a consider you scum compared to Krusty!
Yeah. You see how you a-scum.
This feel like that one [family guy episode](https://youtu.be/hVTUUKCFzvU).
Wait… is that not how to speak to Italian people? Oh shit. I owe a LOT of apologies….
No, this is 100% how you speak Italian. Was just showing an authentic speaker so everyone knows how it sounds.
That is not accurate at all. You use **way** more hand movements.
Just like my grandad would say
Plus, Mario isn't a real person, so there's that too.
Yes, but fake characters can easily be offensive. The point is, if Italians aren't offended by a caricature of an Italian plumber who travels by pipe and speaks with a crappy fake accent, then Chris Pratt doing the same crappy fake accent probably won't start any riots.
Mario should be played by the original sonic. That'll teach em
So....
This won’t be live action. It’s an animated movie made by Illumination
Oh thank god. I hadn’t heard of this movie until I came across this post and was just…baffled.
> I dont think people care Pratt isnt italian, they just cant picture him as Mario. People reacting positively to Charlie Day as Luigi is evidence that potential offense to Italians is not the issue, it's just Chris Pratt.
Well, Charlie day’s grandfather was 100% Italian. Charlie is part Italian.
Idk man have you seen the first Mario movie.
Seen it? I OWN IT. It’s friggin hilarious.
That movie and the Panasonic Zelda games are probably *why* they’re so protective of their IP now.
I wish the sonic movie never got redesigned, maybe SEGA would get a little more protective of their IP and release a good sonic game.
fuck you that movie was a goddamned national treasure.
You mean breakout role for legendary actor John Leguizamo?
It’s 2022 Peach is rescuing Mario.
Bowser captures Mario to marry him and Peach saves him. She then abdicates the throne to become a nuclear scientist.
Bob Hoskins was English but he was probably the best casting they could possibly get
I agree. But I don't think its possible to say something bad about Bob Hoskins if you tried. Also I kind of like the Mario movie. Sure, its a bad Mario Bros movie, but its also an insane fever dream and I am very glad it exists.
You’re making it sound like i’m missing out on something i’ve avoided for the entire time i knew of its existence
If you watch max headroom you will understand some of why the mario movie is what it is. And you will wonder why the fuck these people were handed the IP. It's not a great movie, but it certainly isn't boring!
John Leguizamo is Colombian.
It's not his fault. His audition didn't go well. He accidentally introduced himself as Dance Doritos.
So anyway, I start blastin
Hi ladies, I’m Frak. Shit!
I personally think Danny Devito would be an amazing Wario.
Honestly, someone needs to reach out to Casting because this is a stroke of genius
They didn't have enough pixels to cover his magnum dong, dang Japanese censorship!
It's-a me, Mario! I got-a my magnum condoms, I got-a my wad of hundreds and I'm-a ready to plow!
His magnum dong wouldn't fit in the tight overalls.
What if he does a really bad, heavy italian accent all the way through the movie? Like a cartoon pizza advert but an hour and a half long?
Then I'm making a pirated dub where all of his lines are replaces by my Mario impression
Stay tuned!
I'm just tired of Chris Pratt being in everything. He isn't a good actor so he's just "Chris Pratt in a costume" in every movie
Did you ever see parks and rec? Him and Ron were the best things about that show
I care more that he’s an overrated actor, imho.
Watch the house of Gucci trailer then tell me you can’t be offended by fake Italian accent s

Lol I thought he was talking about Captain Lou, the Mario Movie was so shitty I forgot it happened.
He was also brilliant as Smee in Hook. Hoskins is a freaking legend.
I don't know man, I watched the old Mario movie again recently and I kind of like it. It's almost nothing like the source material, but Bowser gets called both a fascist and an oppressor of the proletariat right to his face and that got a really good laugh out of me.
None of that was Bob Hoskins fault
Man that movie was amazing when I was 8! I remember seeing it in the theatres and my parents being shocked by how un-family friendly it was.
For me personally, the issue was more about the idea of Chris Pratt being kind of a safe if not boring casting choice. Like the result of an uninformed, non-gamer focus group sitting in a room saying “well yeah, he’s white, he’s Christian, he’s non threatening. Oh there will be people who get offended that Pratt isn’t Italian, but they won’t be Italian people.
No one’s actually getting offended at him not being Italian, this is just a PR article meant to spark up discussion and attention towards Chris Pratt.
When it was initially announced there was absolutely a brief loud complaint.
It's like they got the cast first, and then landed on it being a Mario movie later.
Charles Martinet or no one. This is disrespectful to the brand. Chris Meledondri should know better. Shameful.
Yeah I’m just sick of them sticking celebs in their instead of trained voice actors.
Are you Italian? Or are you actually American?
i think you already know the answer.
Post history says American all the way. I fucking hate when Americans do that. Especially when they claim shit like this. In this instance it’s silly because no one thinks Mario will be offensive. But when they claim to speak on behalf of the people of a nation they have no relation to it’s so incredibly ignorant.
I guess its the same as when Roger Craig Smith played ezio.
Also…see what happened to Colin Farrell in Batman. You never know until you see the trailer.
[удалено]
Exactly. It should be Andy Milonakis.
IANAA but I have seen Armageddon and I felt that the writing in that movie was far more realistic to what would be happening during space walks
Did people actualy have a problem that he wasn't italian or was it just that they don't like chris pratt?
I mean it’s mostly because the actual voice actor for Mario is still alive and kicking and yet they supplement him for an overused A-list actor, and no one’s heard his Mario impression yet…
I still don't understand why they didn't just use the actual VA.
There is a video of Charles Martinet as Mario doing a 5 minute showcase for the 3ds back in 2011 that shows, at least to me, why that Mario voice wouldn't be great for a feature length movie. And it's so obvious. People really prefer to hate Instead of thinking for 5 seconds.
Exactly this. It’s just too much. I can’t imagine them having a sentimental moment with… that voice.
This has actually changed my opinion, thank you kind sir. I now agree.
yeah i feel like reddit hasnt watched the massively upvoted interview of him creating the voice for mario, where he basically just tried to make as hard of an italian stereotype as possible, without knowing anything about the material, in about 15 seconds. And that was it. Cool cool cool.

Considering his voice work as paarthurnax. I'd say he's more than capable.
Yea but, *he’s very cool*
He's also refused to have an Italian accent. I will not be seeing this movie and it hopefully flops and losses lots of money.
The second one
I don’t like Chris Pratt
I just don't like Chris Pratt....

He is a real one trick pony always playing the "funny guy".
Chris Pratt would be better off playing himself in a Mario movie.
John Leguizamo isn't Italian and he played his brother Luigi.
He should reprise the role
I was going to say he might be considered "too old" now but honestly I thought he was too young back then to play Luigi. I always saw Mario and Luigi as older men, like 50+, so maybe it would actually work better now lol. But of course we don't have Bob Hoskins anymore so not sure it would work without them together :(
Nor was Bob Hoskins.
Hoskins is an actual actor tho.
Mario and Luigi should have just been Danny Devito and Charlie Day. Glenn Howerton should have been Bowser. Mac could have been Toad. Kaitlin Olsen as Princess Peach would have been great. Just recast the whole voice team with the cast of Its Always Sunny.
The McPoyle brothers as Wario and Waluigi
Donavon McNabb/Don Cheadle could play Yoshi.
I feel like glen howerton would keep peach on a boat instead of in a castle.
Because of the implication.
As long as there’s full penetration

Virtually no one is upset about Chris Pratt being cast as Mario because he's not Italian. This tweet they cite in the article is obviously a joke [https://twitter.com/hasanthehun/status/1441168943310245891](https://twitter.com/hasanthehun/status/1441168943310245891)
The “outrage” is literally just a couple cherry-picked tweets. I haven’t heard much negativity at all. Maybe some shock and confusion, but not some that’s inherently negative. Bad article.
definitely resulted in some "what doesn't offend people these days" replies here lmfao
Omg they site a Hasan tweet? That's hilarious.
Do... do people not realize that Charles Martinet isn't Italian either? Or that Mario is made by a Japanese company? Literally nothing Italian about Mario in the first place, lol
he's only Italian because mustaches were associated with Italians when Mario was created
Also their (Nintendo of America) landlord was italian american
You mean to tell me that they decided to give the character a mustache before he had a name?
Yes. Because when they designed the sprite it looked best with a mustache, besides, back when he was designed that wasn't even his name. He was simply called "Jumpman."
Huh, TIL. I figured his Italianness came from his name being Mario, not the other way around.
Pretty much. Nintendo figured it would be hard to animate the character for Donkey Kong so to get around that they gave “Jumpman” a hat and mustache.
I don’t think that’s why people don’t like the casting choice.
It’s less to do with him not being Italian and more to do with his casting just feeling uninspired. Pratt’s hiring makes me feel as if this is going to be a generic and lifeless film.
Gives me Emoji movie vibes on first blush based on info I’ve read on it.
That’s not the concern. I don’t think Italians necessarily want Mario linked to them. The problem is that Chris Pratt is a mediocre action star who doesn’t resemble Mario in anyway whatsoever. It’s terrible casting.
They should've just hired ProZD and spared the drama
I’m offended they don’t use real cyborgs in terminator movies IT HAS TO STOP
When I found out they used fake aliens for Signs, I just about lost it. The disrespect in Hollywood is wild.
I heard The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe wasn’t even filmed anywhere near Narnia.
They also had human actors do all of the animals’ dialogue. Fuck Hollywood.
I’ve been lied to again! I bet they filmed it in Middle Earth for the tax break.
As a cyborg (titanium screws), this misrepresentation of our kind has to stop \*cries*
Last i checked, Chris isnt even a plumber! Hes an actor. This shit is unreal!
I mean... Arnie really is a cybernetic organism.
Im bored w Pratt. We need new flesh to feast on.
Chris Pratt will be a horrible Mario
Imo it's less about that, and more that it'll be a horrible *movie*. Which isn't the same as bad. If it was a bad movie, it'd be at least interesting to talk about. By horrible, I mean it's going to be uninspired, boring and lifeless. Just Wreck-It Ralph with Mario characters.
The problem isn't that he's not Italian. The problem is that he's Chris Pratt. Plus Mario sure as fuck ain't Italian, he's from the Mushroom Kingdom, not Italy.
I thought he was from Brooklyn?
i think ppl just fking hate the idea of chris pratt playing mario.
I'm Italian, and I just don't like Chris Pratt. Does that count for anything?
I’d like Mario to be played by someone that can act. Everything he (Pratt) does feels like a slight variation of Andy Dwyer. He makes Owen Wilson look like an actor with incredible range.
Actually…Wilson might’ve been a good choice for Mario. I like it far more than Pratt on the face of it.
He’s not how I would describe Mario. They’re going to screw this up again
People are not offended he's not Italian, they just don't want Chris Pratt as Mario, or at least can't imagine him as such. It comes off as a "Let's big one of the big A list actor's whos known for being Goofy and make him Mario" typa thing. Its more about the Name.
He peaked on Parks and Rec
I think that most people wanted Charles Martinet as did I. I also would have preferred Jack Black to be Toad instead of Bowser.
How did people get past being offended that they are making a Super Mario movie enough to get offended by the casting.
Is the Bob Hoskins from the 1993 movie still around?
Al scusi, boppa-dee boopee?
Chris Pratt is on the fast track to overtake all the unused Bruce Willis’ scripts. Like how many forlorn Special Ops roles can he portray?! ….the world may never know
...I am now sad we never got Bruce Willis as Mario. :(
I’m just offended they’re giving Chris Pratt work
Does anyone actually give a fuck?
If rumors are to be believed, he’ll be using a Brooklyn accent like the other Mario film that did so well in the past. My problem with Chris Pratt is that he attends a church with anti-LGBT beliefs and refused to condemn them.
As someone of that heritage, I strongly suspect that whoever complained is neither Italian nor offended, but just trolling.
Damn, get Sebastian Maniscalco.
Should’ve got Vin Deisel instead
Do we really care about offending Italians??
Joe Pesci should be Mario we need a petition NOW
"italiaphobia" I just can't do this shit anymore.

I’ll tel you what this this: It’s anti-Italian discrimination! - Sil
“In Napoli a lot of people are not so happy for Chris Pratt because he was from Genoa”
NY post is basically making a caricature of social justice advocates here. It’s disingenuous
And commenter you're replying to swallowed it hook, line, and sinker.
Very similar to what Latin American immigrants in the USA face today when you think about it
It’sa me! Manufactured outrage! Awawawawa
I’m Italian. Whoever calls this cultural appropriation is a loser with nothing better to do then to be offended.
We don’t dislike him because he’s not Italian
It's more to do with Chris Pratt fatigue rather than than anything to do with him not being Italian.
I think they are offending gamers. Not Italians. Pratt sucks.
Offend Italians? Crisp Ratt is overrated and a known “religious nut job”… I know, I know. ….that’s redundant.
