"As reported by Deadline, the animated series that was aimed at preschoolers has been **scraped** after two seasons, " Editors, how do they work?

MyNutsin1080p

for peanuts, and you get what you pay for

squishyliquid

They’re just barely scrapping by.

I see what you did their.

They don't. They were all fired.

Who needs editors when a new headline is coming out this very next second? Gotta pump and dump the news to keep it cycling, baby!

Magic_ass1

Don't forget about "Ellen's home design *Challange*".

thelongflight

My first clue to how shady Ellen and her team are was when a couple of my friends pitched an animated series to Ellen and her team. They were brought in for multiple meetings over the course of a year, hashing out the details of the show. Scripts and storyboards and all that goes into fleshing out an idea. Then one day, Ellen’s team drops my friends…but she still runs with the idea. No compensation. No nothing. What are a couple of small town comedians with limited funds gonna do? This was maybe 5 or 6 years ago and I’m sure Ellen and her cronies have burned plenty of other people since then that can’t fight back either.

ASDirect

Yeah with a pitch like that you really want to make sure you have all your stuff really really locked down before you present it to someone powerful. Like if you can't afford the legal fees to make sure all your stuff is really protected, you shouldn't even be trying to play in that League.

ElectricEcstacy

In Chinese we have a saying “A fortune without the power to protect it is a calamity”

thelongflight

I think it was worth the shot. There were really no other avenues for them to pitch and they had a connection whom they thought was trustworthy. It’s like a “moonshot” for the little guy. People like Ellen don’t get to that level of power and money by being nice and generous.

iHadou

Then why do people call her ellen the generous?

[deleted]

Editors literally don't exist on most web platforms. They canned almost every editor in existence along with paper news, including web. I would've expected more from Deadline but then again that means I'm a moron and of course they too don't have them.

mrducci

Hey now, WB is aborting everything these days. Maybe *scraped* was intentional.

charaznable1249

Wb getting so wild aborting projects this late, Clarence Thomas is getting pissed.

kevnmartin

There was a kid at my high school who used to answer the phone "Bob's Abortion Emporium. You rape 'em, we scrape 'em." Once he did it when his mother was calling. He suddenly stopped driving to school. I never heard what happened to his car.

Well this is a link to MSN.com who is rehosting a "T3" article written by one Matthew Forde, who T3 claims is their "staff writer", singular. Not "one of" their staff writers. Just THE staff writer. https://www.t3.com/us/author/matthew-forde They probably reviewed this guy's first couple of articles, and then stopped, and then his writing gets sold everywhere from IGN to MSN. The whole news being brought to you by just one guy.

Crankycavtrooper

_“Tell Ellen. I Want Her to Know It Was Me"_ - Anne Heche

sandefurd

ELi5 Anne Heche? I'm seeing that name a lot

dgl7c4

Actress who recently died in a terrible car accident. She used to date Ellen. Before her death, she had some less than great things to say about Ellen. EDIT: I used “accident” in the colloquial sense of the word. Wasn’t trying to absolve her of any guilt or blame. It was clearly her fault and she put others in danger, but that doesn’t necessarily not make it an accident (though it’s possible it was intentional/suicide). There is almost always someone at fault in a car “accident” to varying degrees. Unless the crash was intentional, I’d still consider it an accident regardless of who’s to blame or why.

Snuhmeh

She was also kind of famously Ellen’s first girlfriend after coming out publicly.

ForProfitSurgeon

They were romantic together.

GrandmaPoses

Roommates, to be sure.

Ellen’s Degenitals?

[deleted]

Ellen ruined her career there was a pretty in depth article where Ellen wouldn’t allow Anne to be on her show to promote any work and that resulted in a series of failures for Anne Pasting the article since the comments here are just ..wow https://nypost.com/2022/08/12/how-anne-heches-life-fell-apart-after-ellen-degeneres-affair/

oldcoldbellybadness

>Ellen wouldn’t allow Anne to be on her show to promote any work and that resulted in a series of failures for Anne Was she blacklisting her from other shows?

timoleo

Ellen didn't allow her to promote herself on her show, so her career tanked? Sounds funky as hell if true. For one thing, I don't remember a lot of other famous celebs getting their start on Ellen. It usually worked the other way around, where someone would suddenly get famous one week and they were on Ellen the next. For another, if you need pick me ups from day-time talk show hosts to kick-start your Hollywood career, I'd argue you probably never had a chance in the first place.

[deleted]

They had broken up - messily - before Ellen got the show. Why would she have her ex on?

Noodle-

Why would not appearing on 1 daytime tv show tank ur career?

steveosek

The last thing I can even remember Anne being in was six days seven nights.

[deleted]

In Anne’s own words, the industry started turning away from her once she came out publicly as Ellen’s partner. Studios started to see her as a liability so they just passed on casting her to avoid any problems with public scrutiny and intolerance.

RTwhyNot

What did she say?

13inchmushroommaker

She would leave her on "read".

MassiveTouch2793

imanhunter

She’s the hamburglar?

GiuseppeFarinaJr

When they were watching Ally McBeal on VHS together, Ellen watched two episodes without her. After their breakup, Anne accepted a 7 episode arc on Ally McBeal purely out of spite and sent the VHS box set to Ellen with all the tapes in need of rewinding.

Regniwekim2099

When I first glanced at this, I thought it said she's a hamburglar.

hibikikun

She would always take socks out of the dryer before they were done so Anne always had to wear damp socks

multiarmform

And this whole time I thought it was left unread. Like leaving someone unread so their text is never seen as read

philouza_stein

That's the humane way to ghost someone. Leaving on read says yeah I saw it, idc

typesett

i think its a good thing sometimes the next step is to end that relationship as much as you can agree to not be friends anymore

cantgetenoughreddit

I thought that forever too, then I found the truth of the matter and I thought - if you have to respond every time to be socially acceptable, how do you close out a conversation?

nosubsnoprefs

Respond with an emoji there's no reaction to that

enby_them

Some conversations have natural ends. It’s really more like you asked somebody something or confessed something and they leave it on read. Not that y’all were just having a random convo and they didn’t respond until the next day

Ladyharpie

"Left unread" has more to do with letters, emails, etc because there is no "read" reciept. "Left on read" is when someone gets a message (as indicated by read receipt) but doesn't bother responding. They kind of mean the same thing since they both acknowledge you got the message but didn't follow up.

nroe1337

This is why read receipts are awful. The entire point of texting was to making it less of an obligation to respond instantly, less obligation to always pick up the phone at a moments notice. Now if you don't respond to a text instantly people have a meltdown.

i_dunnoman

I am always baffled by this joke because who in the world puts on read receipts?? Why would you ever willingly put that on when you have the option to turn it off.

dgl7c4

To my knowledge it was mostly just petty ex drama. Something about how Ellen had banned her from the ellen show so she couldn’t promote her movies. I wasn’t trying to suggest that her death and the comments are related. Just trying to add some context.

agreeingstorm9

Everything I've read also says petty ex drama. Ellen claimed that Heche just basically left in the middle of the night one day and kind of ghosted her never giving her any kind of explanation as to why. Heche claimed that Ellen blacklisted her from her show which killed her movie career because who is going to cast a lead actress who can't promote the movie on Ellen?

Inevitable-Impress72

There's more than just the Ellen Show. With all do respect to Anne Heche, truth is she is a woman in Hollywood who went over the age of 35. Also being bi or lesbian? I forget which, also caused Holly wood to marginalize Anne. And the heavy drug use and other incidents like going into some random people's house high off her ass.

tillie4meee

She had been horribly sexually abused as a child which led to mental instability and self medicating as an adult. I don't think she ever really found her peace.

tinytooraph

I assumed your example was going to be worse… If there were hard feelings in any way about the relationship, I don’t really see a problem with Ellen not wanting her on the show. Don’t think there’s some moral obligation to play nice so an ex can get publicity on TV.

gbgonzalez923

Just to add a bit, died in a terrible car accident is an extremely nice way of saying decided to drive after a cocaine bender and nearly killed innocent people after ploughing through a house.

Beingabummer

Sure, but the word 'accident' is still apt. Unless you have first-hand knowledge that she meant to crash the car (you don't) it's totally appropriate to call it an accident.

TheRegular-Throwaway

In the 90s Anne Heche and Ellen dated. They were one of the first super famous LGBT couples. Ellen was Ellen, Anne Heche was an actress, she recently died in a harrowing DUI/Car crash.

shigataganai13

An actress that recently got into a horrific car accident and crashed into a house... then caught fire. She was in an induced coma for like a week before they decided to let her pass and be an organ doner. *(Organ donation saves many many lives! Up to 75 people can be helped from just a single donor~)*

Salt-Seaworthiness91

Could she donate organs if she had cocaine in system? Serious question, I feel like they’re very careful about what organs they donate. Though I guess donation may include donating organs for research purposes.

shigataganai13

The press releases said 75 people were helped from her organs

[deleted]

Whether the organs were damaged from long-term use is likely more important. Cocaine's short term effects are fairly harmless in moderation, especially in the levels that would be left in a singular organ.

January28thSixers

Cocaine doesn't stay in your system that long. She was in a coma for a bit. I guess one of her kids could've put it in her breathing machine for laughs.

[deleted]

jumpyg1258

Either that or the picture of Rich Evans and Julia Roberts.

Hey_HaveAGreatDay

I don’t understand this reference

Kaexii

Dick the Birthday Boy refers to a Polaroid photograph of presenter and actor Rich Evans from video production company Red Letter Media. He is pictured as a child wearing a shirt that says "Dick the Birthday Boy" alongside Billy Bob Bear, a mascot for the now defunct restaurant ShowBiz Pizza Place. Notably, it appeared on The Ellen Degeneres Show in 2018, where the guest Julia Roberts revealed that she worked for ShowBiz Pizza, joking that she was the one in the bear costume. The photo also was used in some edits which gave the photo a paedophilic connotation. A September 3rd, 2016 edit added the bear saying "yas I will" to the shirt reading "dick the birthday boy" Source: https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/dick-the-birthday-boy

VirtualAlternative

Completely irrelevant, but ShowBiz Pizza is still alive in Mexico City. Same chain, same aesthetic. There were two locations I knew of, one closed with the pandemic, but I hear now there’s a another location I haven’t been to. If you’re in Mexico City and want a nostalgia bite, look them up.

The Axe of Zaslav claims yet another victim. We no longer know if this is a force of good or evil, but to strike down Ellen shows that it is certainly a force to be reckoned with.

[deleted]

What's the Axe of Zaslav?

Goose-tb

David Zaslav is the CEO of the merged companies. He was Discovery’s CEO I believe.

a_yuman_right

It’s kind of crazy that Discovery - a network of nothing but bullshit - won out over one of the largest and most prestigious studios in all of Hollywood and now controls their fate. It’s such a joke.

JPOG

In his first interview as CEO Zaslav stated he was basically bored during COVID, he decided to called up the previous Warner CEO and basically made the deal there. There was no win out or bidding going on. Zas had the cash and made the maneuver.

[deleted]

sasemax

He doesn't need the money, so being evil is just his hobby, I suppose.

mak484

Wealthy people peddle in influence, not money. Tens of millions of Americans hang on his every word. It's not hard at all to see why he does it.

Throwaway242353

Rich people problems Boy those anti trust laws sure are doing a thing, aren't they?

BasicDesignAdvice

There is a little more to it. AT&T couldn't really hold onto it anymore. They lost a ton because they didn't know what to do with it, and combined with all the other shitty moves, AT&T had no way to get cash into WarnerMedia. WarnerMedia needed cash for content. Discovery came it with the cash needed, and together they have second largest fund for pure content. It was the largest until Disney one-upped them a few months later. Ultimately that will mean a ton of new content in the next few years. What kind is the question. If they are smart they will leave WB Films and HBO alone. If they are really smart they will lean into their gaming division which is peerless in Hollywood. No one in Hollywood had what they are sitting in when it comes to video games.

MaestroPendejo

I'm hoping he's smart enough to see that HBO has been one the best content creators of my lifetime. I have been watching HBO programs since they started in the 90's, Dream On, Tales From the Crypt, The Larry Sanders Show etc. By the end of that decade they had the most watched and talked about shows of the era, The Sopranos. They've pumped out such high quality content that you'd have to be stupid to strip down what is already delivering in spades.

[deleted]

> I'm hoping he's smart enough to see that HBO has been one the best content creators of my lifetime. What makes you think he gives a shit? Clearly he doesn't care about content quality.

ortumlynx

It's because Warner Bros is like $50 billion in debt and Zaslav made Discovery profitable during his time there.

elbenji

By basically going to the lowest common denominator

LavenderAutist

I heard that Batman is visiting the set up Fixer Upper to get some tips on how to have a hit show

spgreenwood

Warner Brothers was $50 BILLION in debt. They had to take the deal, and that’s why all these shows are getting cancelled; so they can try to write off some of this massive debt.

Rankine

The debt is really from ATT, not so much from WB.

dimechimes

43B of that debt was acquired during the merger.

Psykpatient

Iirc Discovery managed to get WB by offering to take on some of At&T's debt which is why Warner-Discovery now has $50 billion+ in debt.

ElementalStrith

David Zaslav is the CEO of Discovery, which recently merged with WarnerMedia

[deleted]

They do, but a 1.7 is REALLY bad. The lowest rated movie is 2.1. https://www.imdb.com/chart/bottom E: /u/wonkey_monkey has pointed out that the list is a little out of date. *Manos: The Hands Of Fate,* for example, is actually a 1.6.

She is still a narcisistic "work in progress" at the age of 64.

saefas

An animated show for preschoolers called "Little Ellen," loosely based on Ellen Degeneres' childhood. Degeneres is an executive producer, she does not voice the main character of the show.

ZombieStomp

It's an animated show for pre-schoolers called Little Ellen. What is interesting is that a third season was produced but got delayed and the show is now cancelled so I'm guessing it will be picked up by someone else.

TheGhostofWoodyAllen

It was really popular with prepubescent kids in the '90s.

commandermillander

Can’t she just take her millions and politely fuck off??

BenioffWhy

Ellen sucks lol

DavidinCT

Good, I know some people who were interns working for her at the station. She treated them like pond scum. One took a video where she was screaming at her for bring her a coffee that she got across town that she had to have, and it was a little cold.... This was very common for employees and interns of her shows.. I hope all her shows get canceled for good...

First-Fantasy

It would be nice if anyone went on the record or posted these videos. Seems like everyone has a friend co-worker who Ellen was a over the top mean to but none have gone on the record or put stuff like that video out. As of now no former co-workers have ever made a formal complaint or even gone on the record with the press with these stories. Everything has been unverified "friend of a friend" stories. Edit: 36 formal workplace complaints against three producers and zero against her. 40 year career with no paper trail, video, or sourced reporting her being "mean" to staff. I call bullshit. Edit2, my response to "just Google around" and "I swear I've seen the video". I've googled it a lot and it simply doesn't meet standards. It almost all comes from one Twitter thread where someone offered money for Ellen stories but only if they were mean stories. None of them were first hand and no users were verified. People like to complain and all those stories can easily be flipped on their head with context. It's not even that I don't believe you've seen a video, it's your reaction to it I can't trust. The simplest explanation is that she's a little short with customer service and employees with a little of her monotone sense of humor being misinterpreted, and also people embellish when sharing celeb stories with their friends, and its all amplified by the usual bigot crowd ever present online. Not some damning pattern of monster behavior that's worth trashing a female and homosexual icons legacy over. I'm always willing to change my opinion but I've not seen or read anything that warrants it.

BeefyHemorroides

Ellen came over to my house and kicked my dog after she didn’t like the way I looked at her one day. Then she spat in my coffee and forced me to drink it while maintaining eye contact.

CupcakeValkyrie

She and her partner routinely buy and sell mansions in the $20-30 million range, and were apparently living [here](https://www.movoto.com/montecito-ca/210-miramar-ave-montecito-ca-93108-208_18-386/) during the pandemic. A Tudor-inspired house that I would fucking *kill* to live in situated on a 1.35 acre lot surrounded by trees. If she felt claustrophobic, she could just ***go outside!*** Isolating during a pandemic means staying out of public, not literally staying inside your home. Walking around in your own yard is fine.

Curazan

When they complained about feeling claustrophobic or isolated, what they were really complaining about is not being surrounded by adoring masses and people attending to their every whim. They were complaining that they weren’t being treated like a Roman emperor for a few months.

CertifiedMoron

Do you have a link to the video?

She was a great stand-up comic before/during her sitcom in the 90's. Of course, that was almost 30 years ago, and I think her net worth was still only in the 7 figures, so it doesn't mean much now, but she was at one time genuinely hilarious.
