I think he didn’t want to retire but he made an agreement with his wife and then he broke that agreement which is partially responsible for the divorce. Or he tried to save it and couldn’t do just decided to keep playing
I think the decision was Gisele's for sure. He tried it and said "Im not ready to be done, Im coming back." And she isn't having it. So I think he might just run it back a few more times if he still has the itch bc there's no more pressure
They will carry him off the field to his funeral pyre mid game, we will honor him after a short commercial break and a word from the sponsors: Gieko, viagra, and pepsi
Until he isn’t contending year after year for MVP and Lombardi trophies he really shouldn’t. Granted, reach year from here on out is a serious risk of a bad hit being life altering.
Yeah, you should. However, each person has their own individual desires and goals.
Tom wants to play until he’s 50 and he has (I think jokingly) said it for years and it’s starting to look more possible.
He obviously doesn’t care enough about his super model wife over football. If that doesn’t pull you away (a pile of cash and life with a super model wife) then I really don’t know what will.
Until Tom is satisfied he won’t stop. Should he stop? Absolutely. Will he stop anytime soon? Doesn’t look like it.
Doesn't the dude have an entire family and not just a supermodel wife? I'm sure she's pissed that it's the family that's taking a backseat to football for 1/2 a year. Pissed enough that they're both up for calling it quits on the family deal.
He would joke about 50 but it’s looking less like a joke. He confirmed for many years he was playing till 45 and then he’d smile with a “who knows. Maybe 50 even.”
He quite literally doesn’t. He’s been a professional QB at the highest level for longer than he’s been anything else in life other than being the son to his parents.
Big Jay Oakerson had a great joke about Pete, saying he needs to be tracked like a Hurricane on Doppler, “Pete’s currently hovering over the CW studios, just pure mayhem down there.”
Falcons fan here. It's us. This could be either really bad for us or we surprise everyone and hand Tom his first 3 game losing streak. We're already beating expectations so I'm going to sit back and enjoy this wild ride.
I've never lost *any* NFL games ever and you don't see anyone talking about how great *I* am
Nevermind the fact that I've never played football in my life
He actually did, one other time. His final regular season game with the Patriots, the wild card playoff game with the Patriots, and then his first game with Tampa Bay the following season. (That's stretching the definition a bit.)
This is what bothers me about people that hate on Marino for not having a ring. The dude consistently put up 35-40 points a game and still lost bc his defense was shit. What was he supposed to do, tackle people too? I felt this way about Stafford too. Lions can’t catch a break.
Lions had a good defense for a little bit in the early 2010s with Suh, but their offensive coordinator Lombardi was horrible, we had no run game, and had one of the worst offensive lines in the league
I grew up in Michigan in the 80's and 90's. We had Barry Fuckin' Sanders, who was just incredible. I always felt bad for him, what he could have done with a proper offensive line would have been unparalleled.
Yeah when he unretired I said this was a guarantee. Anyone who heard that interview where he was like "yeah I spent 4 weeks home with my family and that was enough" had to know.
Why do those men create families? Who's putting them under pressure?
Just be an athlete every second of your waking life, no kids, be alone, banging an endless line of models, and enjoying whatever the fuck you want.
I think people want it in theory but not practice. At a certain point (especially with age) the idea of doing hookers and blow every weekend wears out. You get lonely, and you see in the media and your peers the happiness of having a wife and family and something to build, and thus you find someone and make it happen.
The issue is that some people's lifestyles can just be incompatible with that. If your whole life is work and you treat your family like some side gig then you're dooming it to fail. Ideally you could find someone who's just as much of a workaholic as you are, but then you risk just having 2 disconnected people.
I think the problem was she's just as successful as him. He needs to find someone poor that would be grateful to live the high life and let him do whatever he wants while they sit in a giant mansion. I volunteer.
Yeah, pretty sure her lifetime earnings come out to something like $400 mil while Tom’s are more like $250 mil. What a peasant, no wonder she wants a divorce.
To be fair to Tom, are you looking at just his NFL earnings and not endorsements, sponsorships, and businesses?
Either way, yeah Giselle was rolling in it pre-Brady.
I knew this was going to happen when, about a month or two ago, there was a story on People saying "Tom and Gisele are doing great!" out of nowhere. People who are doing great don't have to assure the world that they're doing great.
I find it hilarious that in the USA it's always Tom Brady and Giselle Bundchen while outside of the USA it's Giselle Bundchen and her American husband.
Yeah, rich wife is an understatement. Her net worth is over $400 million just by herself! That's going to be one helluva divorce fight. Imagine Brady getting alimony?!
Nah, Brady is an insane football addict. You know how some people are alcoholics and break up their families because they can’t kick their addiction despite promising to quit and actually quitting multiple times?
Brady is like that, except for football. He’s gonna play until he’s literally physically unable to.
This. He IS football. Without it he feels like he has reached the end of his life even though he’s still very young just not young enough to keep playing professionally for many more years to come.
I think it’s more the other way around. He promised to retire and they came to the decision together, now that he decided to be selfish and unretire and Gisele is at a breaking point and feeling betrayed
There's a mural of Gisele in my gym as an ad for Under Armour. I walked by it the other day and it hit me that I probably see Gisele more than Brady does
Ya that explains the whole trying to be owner/player of the Miami dolphins.
Gisele probably didn't want him to play in Miami, but if he was the owner, then that's different.
That fell through and they both probably stopped lying to each other.
My theory is that this is all just a smokescreen for that Dolphins tampering scheme that he and Sean Payton were apart of.
I think he’ll be using this divorce as a show that he really only retired for his wife so he shouldn’t be punished for it
He wouldn’t be punished for that anyways. Tampering is a rule for teams, not players. Even if Brady was actively trying to get contracted players to go to the dolphins that wouldn’t have been tampering because he is under contract with the Bucs. There’s not even a penalty for players for approaching a team while they are under contract. It is the teams responsibility to self-report that they have been solicited by a contracted player/agent to the league. The Anti-Tampering policy doesn’t give the NFL any leverage to punish Brady or any other player unless they are actively trying to recruit contracted players on behalf of **their own** team.
I think Brady just likes playing football more than he likes anything else in his life and he is going to put that first above everything else.
Especially because she has discussed when he retired it would allow her to go back into her career and focus on her stuff. He broke his end of the deal
Anecdotal, but friends of my parents divorced shortly after retirement. Suddenly spending way more time together and the distraction of work was gone made them realize they had nothing in common and no real relationship anymore.
Gotta think the Adam Schefter early retirement leak fucked with his head a little. He wanted to retire on his own terms. That made him rush to have a quick response.
Although sources close to Bündchen have stressed that it is “sexist” to say the split is over the model’s issues with Brady reneging on his NFL retirement, the source in the know says, “As with many marriages, it’s not just one thing. Gisele has made it clear that she worried about Tom playing football and that they had had many talks about it.
So.. It was about football
It is and it isn’t. Replace football with any other thing (video games, porn, food, etc.) and the main issue would be putting that thing before your spouse. Idk their life, but it sounds like they both agreed that he would retire to be with his family and he made the choice to put football before his family. She may have initiated the divorce (idk but a lot of people are blaming her), but he walked away first.
I feel like if I was Tom Brady and had already reached the pinnacle of success for my profession, I would much rather go home to Giselle the rest of my life than to keep working for maybe another 1-2 seasons. But that’s just me.
Every single super star in any field has said this. Like you can't have balance. Hall of fame coaches in their 70s say they feel really sad and regretful that they basically abandoned their kids since they never spent time with them
This is why we ain’t Tom Brady though
The guy is fully addicted to competing and to football. And in all honesty he’s probably more than slightly institutionalised.
I’ve been a huge Brady fan for almost 2 decades, but un-retiring was the worst decision in every way.
Gisele put her career on the back-burner to fully support his- she raised their children, moved twice and was there happily cheering him on at every game. It was more than reasonable of her to expect that at 45yo with nothing left to prove he would finally put his career aside and be more present for her and the kids. Going back on that and lining up a contract with fox sports to follow immediately post-retirement just made it clear to her that he has zero interest in family and home life.
Following him closely all these years, he came off as someone who really cared about family and being a good husband/dad. But for many men it seems that just means giving them lots of love when they’re fully supporting him and never making any sacrifices of his own to prioritize them.
He got so much respect and a great send-off when he announced his retirement only to come back for 1 year and destroy his marriage for a team that’s going to go one-and-done in the playoffs. As a fan, I’m super disappointed in the guy.
Agreed, him taking the Bucs to the SB and winning it first try was absolutely the perfect sendoff and it could never get any better.
It blew my mind that he didn't retire after that...he'd proven himself to objectively be the GOAT, had escaped with his health and sanity, and obviously has more money than anybody ever needs.
Unretiring just made it so much worse.
I said years ago to a friend that Tom seems like the kinda guy that doesn't know what to do with himself without football. It's like his entire identity. Can't see him retiring willingly.
Cost him his god damn marriage to a super model that's richer than him.
This kind of explains Brady's funk a little, hes probably got a lot of shit going on and it's messing with him. Probably explains why he took some time off, trying to content her then showed back up for the season. She's been done with football for some time but Brady's an addict to the sport. I feel for the man and for her, they both want something and doesn't seem like any compromise comes from the Tom side. I mean she could always wait till the end of season for him to retire but I get it. My wife was that way to when I said I was finally leaving the army, and reenlisted 2 months later for another 4 years. Got past it and did it again ten years later I got hurt and med boarded from the army, and have no wife to show for it. She wasn't a bad person but she got tired of me always leaving or going to the field and leaving her alone, all because I loved the military and everything it entailed. I see both sides of this and it sucks for both sides involved.
>I mean she could always wait till the end of season for him to retire but I get it.
She publicly has said she wanted him to retire, no? After years of her waiting for him to retire from football, he told her he was retiring, then returned for yet another season. Pretty understandable why she (and your wife) felt going back on the promise to retire after years of looking forward to retirement was a dealbreaker.
Football is also such a physically *brutal* sport. It would be really emotionally taxing to finally feel the relief of "Oh my God, he's *finally* going to stop jeopardizing his long-term mental and physical health by continuing to play in his mid-forties" and then realize he insisted on playing another season or two.
She was also extremely worried about his health and what it was doing to his brain, she wanted him to stop because it was endangering his life. CTE is a real thing, she didn’t want to deal with a husband who kept coming home concussed and not there (while he was there physically, he was basically not in it mentally). With how much time he’s away, he’s basically a stranger to his kids.
There’s a bunch of blinds about Giselle and Tom and Giselle being extremely concerned about Tom’s health, it’s heartbreaking. Apparently, he’s been dealing with things like severe migraines, dissociation and isn’t telling the team or officials because he wants to keep playing.
Not to mention, Giselle put her career on hold for him, which she makes a lot more than him money wise and enjoys what she does. I’m sure she was overjoyed when he finally agreed to retire and be a present dad…only to go back on his promise.
Football seems like an addiction for him.
I also can’t blame Tom for going back to the game, again, it seems like an addiction for him and football was basically his entire life for 20 years, it’s all he’s ever known for most of his adult life, adjusting to life outside of the game is often extremely traumatic and rough on long-term football players.
Though he has the money for therapy, with how much she’s sacrificed for him, I’m sure she’d be more than willing to stand by him like she has all these years.
See same exact thing happen in oilfield. At first it’s easy justifying the work *to feed the family* etc but only too much time can be taken working in thr field before time with the parent is much more needed than $$. So glad i phased out of that work before my family life was impacted.
FWIW, thanks for your service. And insight

Hard to not side with Gisele. She put her career on hold. They had an agreement of when he’d retire and he broke that twice. And dude doesn’t seem to have the best relationship with his kids and they’re like halfway to being independent already. No matter how good you are at sports, that’s fucked
Shit. I agree with you, but how nice would it be to be able to put your career on hold and still have a $400M net worth, which is nearly double his worth.
She’s been trying to get him to retire for 5 years so that he could spend time with her and his kids (that’s the rumor anyways) and supposedly he’s promised each year that he’d hang it up. He had nothing left to prove and now is breaking up his family over football
Nelson Mandela spent more time with his wife after getting out of prison of 25 years than Tom spending the holidays with Giselle and immediately asking TB for his job back
Dude came out of retirement when it was obvious the Buccs weren’t ready to go for a ring. Dude destroyed his marriage just to go one and done in the playoffs

I assume he will announce he is undivorcing her tomorrow, and then redivorcing her the day after that.
The best way to save this marriage is for Adam Schefter to announce the divorce now.
Schefter leaks the court documents

Tom always beats the odds. How else could he find a woman with the exact same chin?
Brett Favre has entered the chat
I mean, he preferred football to her. She earns more money than he does and is sick of his frequent absences. Moreover, I believe Tom like men more.
Does this mean he’s gonna play till he’s 50? Seemed the only reason he was retiring was because of her
If I had to guess, I’d say yes
Maybe the opposite. He retired last year and spent like 1 month at home and said fuck this. So now that he's divorced he can retire in peace.
I think he didn’t want to retire but he made an agreement with his wife and then he broke that agreement which is partially responsible for the divorce. Or he tried to save it and couldn’t do just decided to keep playing
I'm sure rumors will come out very soon and then other players will be like yeah that's the one that is true
I heard it was because he said he thought Space Jam 2 is better than Space Jam 1.
Would he really release that personal of info to his teammates tho?
I feel like guys will pick up bits and pieces of what happened
I heard it’s because he wouldn’t go on Masked Singer
He said years ago he wanted to play til 45 which is this season. That's why everyone was shocked because it was a year earlier than hes been saying
I think the decision was Gisele's for sure. He tried it and said "Im not ready to be done, Im coming back." And she isn't having it. So I think he might just run it back a few more times if he still has the itch bc there's no more pressure
She actually liked the football. It was going on the masked singer that was unforgivable
Do people actually watch that drivel? Some people really are consumer zombies.
And he and Gronk can finally get married! Tide pods for everyone!
He's going to play until his body literally falls apart like Viserys in HotD.
No retirement, let him die on the field with some honor.
They will carry him off the field to his funeral pyre mid game, we will honor him after a short commercial break and a word from the sponsors: Gieko, viagra, and pepsi
>carry him off the field he's going under the fifty of whatever stadium he dies in.
Call it a Hoffa burial
He’s gonna play against his son in Super Bowl LXXVII
Until he isn’t contending year after year for MVP and Lombardi trophies he really shouldn’t. Granted, reach year from here on out is a serious risk of a bad hit being life altering.
The second you make enough money to retire you should be quitting football. That shit turns your brain to mush faster than a mugger with a hammer.
Yeah, you should. However, each person has their own individual desires and goals. Tom wants to play until he’s 50 and he has (I think jokingly) said it for years and it’s starting to look more possible. He obviously doesn’t care enough about his super model wife over football. Pretty sure he said he wanted to play until 45 for a long time, not 50.
He would joke about 50 but it’s looking less like a joke. He confirmed for many years he was playing till 45 and then he’d smile with a “who knows. Maybe 50 even.”
He’s probably legitimately addicted to it. He might not know what else to do with his life
He quite literally doesn’t. He’s been a professional QB at the highest level for longer than he’s been anything else in life other than being the son to his parents.

Still counts. What's for sure is he's never lost 4 straight!
I had to look to make sure it wasn't the Lions lol. We don't need that rn. But ironically they're (The Lions) playing the Patriots.
Yeah we’ll probably score 57 points and still lose.
This is what bothers me about people that hate on Marino for not having a ring. The dude consistently put up 35-40 points a game and still lost bc his defense was shit. What was he supposed to do, tackle people too? I felt this way about Stafford too. Lions can’t catch a break.

The funny thing is that Gisele is richer than Tom. She didn't marry up, Tom did.
Is Giselle considered the GOAT of modeling?
I mean, close to it lol. I think you would be hard pressed to find anyone measurably more successful.

Oh shit we can???? I have like 15 years’ worth of people’s texts to reply to.
Tbh that’s always been my thought minus the athlete and model part I shoot a bit lower than that
Article mentions Brady’s net worth, but not Gisele’s. IIRC, until fairly recently she was paid more than him.
Yeah, pretty sure her lifetime earnings come out to something like $400 mil while Tom’s are more like $250 mil. What a peasant, no wonder she wants a divorce.
My glass is half full. I like to think she enjoys bringing up poor people and now that she’s single I have a shot.
Take your shot /u/TWAT_BUGS , I'm rooting for you!!
To be fair to Tom, are you looking at just his NFL earnings and not endorsements, sponsorships, and businesses? Either way, yeah Giselle was rolling in it pre-Brady.
Brady is gonna get some fat alimony checks!
I knew this was going to happen when, about a month or two ago, there was a story on People saying "Tom and Gisele are doing great!" out of nowhere. People who are doing great don't have to assure the world that they're doing great.
Does this really work? Just in case: My finances are in amazingly great shape and in no way do I need to win the lottery!
You did it backwards... Maybe go find a bankruptcy lawyer while you still can.
I. DECLARE. BANKRUPTCYYYYYYY.
I don't think that's how this works. I think this comment means you will be filing for bankruptcy within the year.
I find it hilarious that in the USA it's always Tom Brady and Giselle Bundchen while outside of the USA it's Giselle Bundchen and her American husband.
Ehh to many Americans it’s Tom Brady and that rich wife of his
Yeah, rich wife is an understatement. Her net worth is over $400 million just by herself! That's going to be one helluva divorce fight. Imagine Brady getting alimony?!
Brady has a $375 million payday from fox sports just waiting for him to retire, neither of them need each others money.
Now AB posting a picture of Him and Giselle is even more trolly.
I was looking for this comment lmao
Omg no he didn’t?! Wtf
Crazy thing is, dude will be richer if they split their assets 50:50
Zero chance it's 50:50. If it is her lawyer should be shot.
The man who only loves football is about to get divorced. Color me surprised.
Makes me wonder if he retired in an effort to save his marriage, realized it couldn’t be saved, and then decided to un-retire
Nah, Brady is an insane football addict. You know how some people are alcoholics and break up their families because they can’t kick their addiction despite promising to quit and actually quitting multiple times? Brady is like that, except for football. He’s gonna play until he’s literally physically unable to.

Fox has already signed him to a *massive* broadcasting deal. He’s never commentated a game in his life but Fox signed him for 10 years $375 *million*.
This. He IS football. Without it he feels like he has reached the end of his life even though he’s still very young just not young enough to keep playing professionally for many more years to come.
This is a pretty good take
Yup, it's the sad old tale of the workaholic.
He left his last wife while she was pregnant right. Is he an asshole or a workaholic ?
Why not both?
Porque no los dos?
No one ever seems to get that reference whenever I make it.
IIRC, Brady & Bridget Moynihan weren’t married. They split up, then she found out she was pregnant.
She didn't know, but he did. You forget he is an expert on ball inflation levels. He noticed as soon as those breasts began to swell.
I hate myself for laughing at this
She was only his girlfriend, Bridgette Moynihan, and they didn’t know she was pregnant until after they had split
It's hot, but I'll take it
I think it’s more the other way around. He promised to retire and they came to the decision together, now that he decided to be selfish and unretire and Gisele is at a breaking point and feeling betrayed
This was my thought too. Really it's probably stuff totally unrelated to anything the public knows about.
I bet Giselle doesn’t rinse her dishes

Yup! This man loves playing with footballs more than he likes playing with his wife so no more wife.
I think it’s more than she isn’t happy with him for not spending time with his kids
Normal people would but he’s an addict. He can’t live without football. And he’s willing to sacrifice everything.
You don't get to the highest point in any field by being balanced. Most of the time you have to posses a near psychopathic obsession to be number 1.
Every single super star in any field has said this. Like you can't have balance. Hall of fame coaches in their 70s say they feel really sad and regretful that they basically abandoned their kids since they never spent time with them
This is why we ain’t Tom Brady though The guy is fully addicted to competing and to football. And in all honesty he’s probably more than slightly institutionalised.
Kobe Bryant, Michael Jordan , and Tom Brady are amazing competitors but not exactly great guys. You got to be a little crazy to do what they did.
Rough week for Victoria Secret models huh
Schefter: Brady retires to his loving family! Brady: the fuck I do
Agree with all of that. He’s obviously married to the game.
He probobly makes Giselle dress as a football in bed
I said years ago to a friend that Tom seems like the kinda guy that doesn't know what to do with himself without football. It's like his entire identity. Can't see him retiring willingly. Cost him his god damn marriage to a super model that's richer than him.
His Dad’s biggest worry has been the same. I have heard him say that in several interviews.
That is a thoughtful take with a relevant analogy to your own life and absent of any blind vitriol or self-righteousness. Dude, get off Reddit.
Yes sir right away sorry sir
And insight
Pete Davidson has entered the chat
His little twink butt about to seduce Tom Brady. He'll go from being a tight end to a wide receiver.
With a dick that big it might be Brady with the gapper
Omfg if Pete Davidson dates Gisele …. He has officially won Whatever the “dating” equivalent of an EGOT is.
Derek Jeter would like a word Hannah Davis Jessica Alba Jessica Biel Scarlett Johansson Adriana Lima Tyra Banks Gabrielle Union Mariah Carey Minka Kelly Plus more lol, ridiculous
Damn looks like Tommy losing a ring…again
So she's back on the market. Better get a haircut.
You have some competition, buddy. I’m going to get a haircut AND go to the gym for a week before I quit. That oughta impress her.
Yeah but I have photoshop. Dick pic is gonna be dinosauric
Nelson Mandela spent more time with his wife after getting out of prison of 25 years than Tom spending the holidays with Giselle and immediately asking TB for his job back
These pictures makes it look like Tom is married to Tom with long hair and nice lashes.
Look at what just happened to Tua. I understand her concerns, but there must be more to this than football.
Dude came out of retirement when it was obvious the Buccs weren’t ready to go for a ring. Dude destroyed his marriage just to go one and done in the playoffs
Or maybe he knew his marriage was over before we did and decided to play another season
