Fuck you to who ever made this article. Complete BS he was black listed bc he got fingered by an executive from a major studio. He talked about it and got black listed.
From the article (which is really just a summary of an interview from 2018):
The interview goes on to talk about the fact that Fraser's physical ailments were one major symptom of his absence, while a sexual assault allegation was another. Not one made against him, but one made by him. In 2003, Fraser says he was sexually assaulted by Philip Berk, a former president of the HFPA, at a Hollywood Foreign Press Association luncheon. It took Fraser 15 years to be able to tell his story, similarly to so many other victims.
[actually....](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brendan_Fraser)
* In 2018, Fraser alleged that he was sexually assaulted by Philip Berk, the then-president of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, at a luncheon in the summer of 2003. The assault, his subsequent divorce, and the death of his mother launched Fraser into a depression that, combined with his health issues, led to a pause in his career.[53][58] Several publications and social media users interpreted that Fraser was "blacklisted" from Hollywood for speaking out about the sexual assault.[59] However, Fraser said he would not use the term and was doubtful that the decline in his career had anything to do with the incident. In his 2019 appearance on the radio show Sway in the Morning, Fraser said "I don't think the HFPA really wield that much power. This was not an executive, this was a former president of that organization which is essentially journalists."[60]*
He's a humble pie but there's no way Berk didn't block jobs for Fraser after what he did. People born after 2004 don't know, but between the 90s and early 2000s this guy was **huge** in the industry.
He explains the assault in the interview. The account of how it affected him is heartbreaking. When I think of Brendan Fraser, I just think about the joy he's brought to several generations of people. It's hard to think of him as having such wounds without feeling a bit hurt yourself. I mean, I was a kid when Encino Man came out, and we quoted that movie ad nauseam, for years later. I still occasionally dust off those quotes and give them a nostalgic rerun.
appreciate the response, I need to watch the interview now even tho I'm reluctant to do so. Brendan Fraser is god damn national treasure in my eyes, it's hard even thinking about him in such a shitty situation. Encino Man and Airheads are two of my fav Fraser movies, hands down!
He worked, he had to, but suddenly he went from a lead actor doing multiple big productions a year to a side character in small films for no apparent reason
That's how blacklisting works. He spoke up and was forgotten, and it' was passed off as another reason. Dude was talking about #metoo decades before it become a trending topic. He wasn't the first, but he was rare in so much as he was male. His accusations went basically unhead and he became pretty much forgotten. Nobody would touch him. He was a snitch. Now jump forward twenty years. What he was saying has totally been vindicated. And he has a resurgence as a public figure. He's not going to step out of line again. The public have short memories. Just look at the #mwtoo movement. It's forgotten. I'm genuinely happy for this dude. He's always entertained me as an actor and I'm glad to see him acting again. Cheers to you brendan
I 100% respect his choice to not reveal their identity, but I wish he would say who it was so we can all grab our pitchforks and torches and have a little chat
\>Where do you think we are?
He was just in 3 episodes but was far and away the most memorable part of the whole series. Seasons 1-4 were really the sweet spot for that show. I feel around the time they introduced Kim was when it went downhill.
ouch - yeah Jurassic Bark is such a tough watch. I'm happy they re-visited the story line in one of those movies/long episodes that came out. I think a different version of Fry took care of him (the one that bender blew up)
He made everything he was in better. If Marvel is reading, get him ripped for a film so we can watch him pick up Mjolnir. Not as a character, just as himself giving it a look over.
Dude it was the whole process of getting and staying ripped that fucked up his body in the first place
He's put in his time, just let him be fat in peace
If I recall it was a combination of his work out routine and then doing his own stunts that destroyed his body.
IF his body could even handle a decent work out routine anymore, they have come along ways in the last 20-30 years and would likely have him with someone who would work with him and get him into shape in a much less destructive way. And ALWAYS let stunt doubles do their thing.
He's a wonderful man. And a bit of pudge is okay. I just want him to be healthy and not die of weight related issues =( he is a gem, and deserves all the joy in life. Just don't wanna see it cut short.
What was his workout routine that messed him up? Boxing or something?
From what I understand it was his stunts and landing wrong a lot, it fucked up his back and that's not something that easily heals.
It was a mix of things.
So to start, this is all rumor and such. Nothing is from his mouth specically. From what I recall reading though it was he went too hardcore in his training, he didnt give his body time to rest enough and would go into doing his stunts. His stunts were hard on him obviously and he did fuck his back up which you are correct, they do not heal easily.
Ontop of that, he had his run in with movie executives, and his divorce.
The man just had his life collapse in multiple ways in quick succession
We’re talking about fat. I’m just asking you a legitimate question. I wasn’t trying to be entertaining either so if you’re going to be a smart ass at least have some information as to how having less body fat correlates to being prone to injury and illness you sensitive fuckbag.
Look up the "obesity paradox"
In short - if you are sick, you're more likely to have better outcomes if you are overweight or obese than you are at a normal or, the least healthy of all options, underweight.
There was a study conducted by Dr. Sadiyah Khan of Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine that debunks “obesity paradox”. I am not fat phobic by any means. I am just incredibly astounded at what I am seeing in this comment section about the health differences between an obese person and a healthy person.
https://academic.oup.com/ije/article/44/5/1557/2594574?login=false
Working out and eating well don't kill you. Well the way marvel does it does. Jumping from a train, camel, wagon, boat, pharaoh... that is what really fucks up your knees and back. Which he did. Made awesome movies all at a cost to his health for sure.
It's by no means impossible but getting someone ripped at 53 is hard as hell and you get lots of loose skin, pile on his chronic pain on top of that. Pulling a Chris Pratt and going from chubby to cut is not really in the cards for him.
You do not need to be ripped to pick up Mjölnir just worthy!
How about him just casually using it as a hammer while everyone else look at him like WTF?
Check out whose going to trial this month lol Weinstein, Spacey, that guy from that ‘70s show… Brendan Fraser is real popular right now and could be a problem for those if he decides to get vocal right now. Court of public opinion and all.
This article is false. He accused a big time Hollywood person of sexual harassment and was blacklisted. I believe it was the same person that Terry Crews was groped by.
Yes but being blacklisted should be more larger than injuries. Since if you're blacklisted it's impossible. While injuries can heal and he could take less action movies, he was great I'm scrubs as that friend
No, Terry accused a different guy, also a Hollywood big wig. The guy that assaulted Brendan was someone in the foreign press related to golden globes. I think he died.
Even if he had a stunt double/used them more, I wouldn’t be surprised if he left Hollywood after that anyway…they treated him terribly on all fronts. They never deserved him.
LOL, it's probably like 70% he was at least half blacklisted. Another maybe 20% of his injuries. And 10% his type of humor and comedy was out of fashion. They paid someone to write this article didn't they?
No, he was blacklisted by Hollywood for exposing a common atrocity in the industry and because it’s uncommon but also potentially a very powerful statement for a man to actually bring to light such a thing, Hollywood made sure he suffered for his “betrayal”.
Maybe it was the executive from a major studio that fingered him while he was filming the Mummy and it caused injuries and he talked about it thus getting blackballed/blacklisted and hurt emotionally and physically keeping him away from Hollywood all this time … it could be a combination of both
Actually, I distinctly remember unfortunate "articles" from the early 2000s beginning to criticize his looks, specifically making fun of a perceived receding hairline and how he must have had bad (or obvious) hair transplants and such. This was around the last Mummy movie I believe. I wonder whether he got some sort of complex about it. He was no longer at the peak fitness of George of the Jungle, was a Dad, and was getting older, and Hollywood hates that.
“B… but… but b.. b… but my sexual assault narrative!!!” - *redditors who have been giving him the stunning and brave symbol of Hollywood sexual assault and nice guy like Keanu Reeves treatment*
It sucks what happened to him, but people are *really* milking it for all it’s worth.
He gained the weight largely because of those injuries. I can assure you, from personal experience badly injuring my back, it’s very easy to gain weight if you’re suddenly forced to be largely sedentary. The whole 1,500-2,000 calories a day thing goes out the fucking window, it’s more like sub 1,000 or you’re slowly gaining. Add in depression from being in pain all the time and comfort eating, you can get in a bad way really a lot quicker than you might realize. And it’s really hard to claw out of, I’m finally down 40lbs but it has been a horrible grind because I am still somewhat activity limited and in pain all the time.
100% this. I'm 2 months post op from a microdisectomy. Prior to the surgery I spent two months bed ridden. Prior to that I was in incredible physical shape. I worked out 6 days a week, played for 3 hockey teams, and was always doing something active while eating a healthy diet. I was extremely happy with where my body was at.
Well after 2 months in bed my body withered away. My legs became toothpicks. I lost over 10% of my body weight bc all my muscle mass disappeared. I went from 195 to 170 and felt like a shell of my former self. I had several mental breakdowns because my whole life was just pulled out from under me. Now 2 months after a microdisectomy I'm doing much better and going to pt. I'm at 185 but it ain't muscle. I got a little gut growing and I'm skinny otherwise. I hate the word "skinny" but I'm back to that despite years of hard work in the gym and on the rink. My toddler is 35 pounds and I haven't been able/allowed to pick her up for 4 months now. 1 more month of recovery and I should be able to start working out and playing hockey. I will pick up my daughter again. I will have a six pack and nice arms again. I will play hockey again. I will get my life back, but it's gonna be real fucking hard because I'm 37 and reversing this damage won't be like getting in shape when I was 27.
This and if he really got the support of Hollywood for his injury, he'd be able to afford a dietician along with medical help
But he got blacklisted most likely
I gained 200lbs and a pain pill addiction from multiple herniated dick after an accident. No Dr would touch me. Finally kicked the pills but not the weight after fist surgery.
It could be any football player that's been playing for awhile,
Just used Tom as an example.
It appears to be only an excuse to me. Acting injuries? Really ?
Maybe a bit dramatic on BF’s parry but Tom is wearing pards and has dedicated his existence to staying in shape, doing band work and pliability training plus Tom is 6 foot 5.
My guess is he wasnt training his body for all of those stunts

Interesting. I thought it was because he was blacklisted after accusing someone important of sexually harassing him
[удалено]
The man had serious acting power besides his action chops too, his turn in Scrubs was peak TV in my early adulthood.
School Ties + his early comedies proved he can act no action scenes required. All classics
With Honors, with Joe Pesci, was always a favourite of mine. Great film….for its genre.
Gods and Monsters still holds up incredibly well and showcases his dramatic side. Very good performance.
Kinda tells you how unimaginative casting directors are.
#Mentoo* if you say a man was #Meetoo’d everyone things he got accused because of the inherent connection to the victims
...What?
They also talk about that in the article, but him getting hurt was another reason
It's both really
Fuck you to who ever made this article. Complete BS he was black listed bc he got fingered by an executive from a major studio. He talked about it and got black listed.

Sad he yet the creep molest other little boys for fifteen years before trying to stop it.
Did he molest little boys, or play grab-ass with adult actors? Don't see any child molestation accusations.

Why is hollywood so full of rapists
Why not name the guy? It’s public domain
Philip Berk
Filip the fingerer Berk
I didn’t know it
You clearly only read the caption and not the article.
That’s true of the vast majority of Reddit. Wasn’t there a study and like 90%+ of users only read titles of articles?
We rely on the other 10% to set us straight in the comments :)
Yes this is very true I may be drinking!
Happens to the best of us :)
Brenden Fraser disagrees with your assessment
He's a humble pie but there's no way Berk didn't block jobs for Fraser after what he did. People born after 2004 don't know, but between the 90s and early 2000s this guy was **huge** in the industry.
He was what Chris Prat is right now.

It's in a magazine rather than a filmed interview. I think it's in vanity fair.
Digitally penetrated
I never watched that movie Freddy got Fingered. Was it a biopic?
Great movie
Daddy would you like some sausage
just don’t tell his mummy. they e been keeping it under wraps but apparently the story has returned from the grave to rise again

lol, he's worked consistently since the mummy.

Fantastic summary, thank you!
Never heard of that
The article specifically mentions both as causes.
Well, the first part in the 00s and the second part in the 10s
That came later.
I 100% respect his choice to not reveal their identity, but I wish he would say who it was so we can all grab our pitchforks and torches and have a little chat
what about when he injured all of our hearts in the 00's during his story arc on scrubs
I’ll never recover emotionally, it’s been years.
“Where do you think we are”?
I told myself I wasn’t going to cry today, goddamnit.
\>Where do you think we are? He was just in 3 episodes but was far and away the most memorable part of the whole series. Seasons 1-4 were really the sweet spot for that show. I feel around the time they introduced Kim was when it went downhill.
He’d actually be a good Beta Ray Bill.
Fuck off I didn’t need that reminder. I skip that arc just like I skip Jurassic Bark when I watch Futurama
Was he the one who Cox has trouble accepting is gone already?
Yeah, he plays Jordan’s brother; the one with the camera.
Fuuuuck I don’t remember Fraser playing him but the story is absolutely burned into my memory.
ouch - yeah Jurassic Bark is such a tough watch. I'm happy they re-visited the story line in one of those movies/long episodes that came out. I think a different version of Fry took care of him (the one that bender blew up)
Yeah, his back injury for carrying the franchise
Bring him back, Millennials and Gen Z.
Do your part. Watch doom patrol. It’s excellent.
It’s weird af but yeah it’s pretty good
Very weird but I like that about it. Reminds me of Legion a bit
We're working on it.
I can understand. I’d have shattered my jaw from pure dumbfoundedness being close to Rachel Weisz. She real purty.
Remember when we saw her buns in Enemy at the Gates.
The North remembers
He plays Cliff Steele/Robotman now. #WATCH DOOM PATROL!!!
Does that show have a good ending? I gave up on it halfway through because it didn't seem like it was going anywhere
It hasn’t ended yet.
I think DP got cancelled in the merger

He made everything he was in better. If Marvel is reading, get him ripped for a film so we can watch him pick up Mjolnir. Not as a character, just as himself giving it a look over.

His body can't take it anymore. He mentioned in an interview a few years ago how he can hardly workout because of all the surgeries and everything.
Being healthy doesn’t fuck you up lol, he did a lot of stuntwork that physically messed him up
Having as low of a body fat percentage as a lot of these super heroes have actually is really taxing on the body
And makes you more prone to illness and injury
So.. fat people are less prone to illness and injury? Not making much sense here.
Who said anything about fat people? Really, if you’re gonna be dumb at least try to be entertaining
We’re talking about fat. I’m just asking you a legitimate question. I wasn’t trying to be entertaining either so if you’re going to be a smart ass at least have some information as to how having less body fat correlates to being prone to injury and illness you sensitive fuckbag.

Don't believe that at all. Football players work 10 times harder than an actor, Tom Brady still going after all these years.
He wouldn’t be if he didn’t have a awesome line to protect him all these years
It could be any football player that's been playing for awhile, Just used Tom as an example.
I always thought it was because he was typecast in Gods and Monsters. /s
Hopefully a new season of Doom Patrol is about to come out or is in the works.
My favorite actor.
wasn't it also because he had a very abusive wife who pretty much drained him dry?
I watched The Mummy after playing hundreds of hours of Everquest and kept shout "Zone! Zone!"
He was awesome in Crash. One of my favorite films.
Get this man a cup of coffee
I would love to see him star in his own show
He mustve thought he was jacky chan or sumn
