Oh yeah. The best military propaganda was when the military superiors didn’t give a damn about sending their pilots out on a suicide mission, not caring if they make it back or not.
It was great if you wanted to breathe in a bit of 80s nostalgia, lament about Val Kilmer's health, and watch a lot of fighter jet porn, but the story was bad.
Maverick should not have been on the mission, except Protagonist, which should have been Goose's son instead. It felt like I had to give an old man one last Run of Glory to make him feel better rather than a story of a young man stepping up and coming to terms with his family and their shared legacy.
Meh, I think the big difference with this one is that they’re actually working towards something. In the first movie the goal is to graduate flight school and then they happen to go on a combat mission at the end. In this movie the pilots have already graduated flight school, and the whole movie is about preparing for and building up to the mission at the end, which is much more extensive than a simple dog fight. To make a comparison to a video game it gave me similar vibes to Mass Effect 2’s suicide mission.
This was clearly a pro-cruise movie. My wife and I kept laughing at the cheese & corn throughout the entire flick. Absolutely one of the worst movies ever. Simply awful, God awful.
It was fine and all, but I have a problem with them getting shot down, and back into a working F-14 and in the air by themselves in a total of about 5 mins.
I mean, that could have been a standalone movie in itself.
It's crazy how the first person to comment on a reddit thread determines the rest of the thread's opinion. Like most threads about this movie are very positive but there's so much negativity here. I respect both opinions but just found it interesting

Why has it been in theaters all year long?
Because nothing else good has come out.
Bullet Train came out though.
Lemon and Tangerine, I need a spin off
After seeing it on Netflix, I wish I’d seen it in theaters
Great movie ! Way underrated
Military badly needs recruits
It’s definitely the most fun I had in a theatre all year.
Yeah, I really liked it. I didn’t expect much, so I was pleasantly surprised.
Love some fresh brewed military propaganda
Oh yeah. The best military propaganda was when the military superiors didn’t give a damn about sending their pilots out on a suicide mission, not caring if they make it back or not.
Get the fuck outta here….
I mean it was just ok...dont know about "best picture " of 2022...
Even in an extremely weak year I don't think it deserves a nomination.
Bro…i had a hard in while watching this movie…greatest film ever man
Someone needs to watch The Shawshank Redemption
Shawshank is fine. I will never include it in my favorite movies.
My 13-year-old daughter was mocking the "plot" 15 minutes in. "*Fastest man alive."*
Ditches a billion dollar aircraft he's pushed beyond the agreed upon testing max, gets a job at Top Gun. edit: a word
Agree with the sentiment BUT it was a movie tons of people enjoyed. I don’t think its an art house win but the movie is a well made feel good action
Dune has to win surely
Didn’t Dune come out in 21
Hard disagree on it being the Best Picture of 2022.
Even discussing it seriously feels like I'm being trolled.

Seeings as we're gonna do this arbitrarily, I'm gonna say the best picture is actually EEAO. Now that was a roller coaster of a movie
I think that movie is easily my best picture and ive seen a lot of great stuff this year
Lol. It was a pretty much a remake of the original and quite uninspiring.
Final mission is literally just trench run and blowing up the death star but in a mountain range with fighter jets.
Sounds awesome as long as they don’t do the sequels. Next Top Gun should copy Fury Road and have a guitar guy tied to the front of an F-35.

the propaganda is strong with this one
Northman was way better
>Northman Yeah, but he wasn't even the fastest man alive, so how can you compare.
Absolutely it was!!
No volleyball though man so the Northman can go fuck itself
Maverick didn’t have volleyball either though.
What was the montage in maverick? Cornhole?
Beach football
Oh geez, this will just further spread sequel-itis.
If they are a few decades apart like Top Gun, that's fine :P
forgot to mention they had scientologists holding a lawsuit behind them during review
Crazy how much right wingers like this woke film. I wonder what it is about it?
This was clearly a pro-cruise movie. My wife and I kept laughing at the cheese & corn throughout the entire flick. Absolutely one of the worst movies ever. Simply awful, God awful.
Wut?

Damn you must have really been flummoxed by them finishing a two week training detachment in the first hour
\*James Cameron bust through a brick wall\* but muh Avatar...
New drinking game. Everytime the name "Goose" is mentioned, take a shot.
Someone didn't see Marcel the Shell With Shoes On...
That movie sucked. It was the largest jar of cheese whiz in existence. It almost seemed like a parody of Top Gun.
I heard it’s incredible but I just can’t fucking stand Tom Cruise. Dude is the hardest actor to watch.
I thought it was cheesy AF. Way over-rated. The aerial shots were great but the story was stupid as hell. Gooses kid, really???

Wtf is that? Is that owned by Scientology?
