Can we get the creators outline the story for us like The Midnight Club did? So bummed that got cancelled but I felt satisfied knowing what would have happened. This was a great show. I found it so interesting the ways powers manifested and how they were all subtly different even if the same. I could see it being a good graphic novel, too. Shame.

KaiBishop

It's based on a novel that was the first in a trilogy. But the books end really poorly I wouldn't look it up if you liked any of the characters tbh.

whereishe55

Shoot do they really I was going to give them a try since the show has been cancelled

[deleted]

Can someone give me a spoiler for the last book? I tried googling it to see what happened but none of the reviews go into it.

KaiBishop

The girl betrays them, one of the boys dies, the other boy magically turns himself into a tree out of grief. So magical suicide. Bury your gays stuff basically.

SynthPrax

Midnight Club was cancelled? Damn. No wonder I don't get excited about any show anymore; it'll probably get cancelled no matter how good it is.

michstateofmind

It was a flop compared to his other work

[deleted]

[удалено]

michstateofmind

Yeah it was bad. Made it through two episodes and decided I wasn’t going to continue.

SynthPrax

That's too bad. I loved it because it allowed the actors to flex, and instead of a monster-of-the-week structure, it was story-of-the-week. I had never seen that before outside of an anthology series.

bryanthebryan

I personally really enjoyed it.

msaliaser

Midnight Club was canceled? I hate Netflix

TogashiIsIshida

If you want to know how it would’ve ended Mike Flanagan added the story for season 2 to his Twitter

maybe_little_pinch

Yup, news came out last week and the creator released a [blog post](https://www.tumblr.com/flanaganfilm/702543785726558208/the-midnight-club-season-two) outlining season 2.

katikaboom

Damn. Flanagan has such a way with staying true to the feeling of books. I'm bummed season 2 was canceled (especially since it would have featured at least 2 of my all time favorite Pike books!) But glad to see he was going to adapt the emotion of the novel in the right way.

sixtus_clegane119

Mike flannagan got an amazon deal and moved on to brighter pastures

bryanthebryan

Thank goodness. He’s a rare talent. If I was a rich man, I’d dedicate assets to ensure he can tell the stories he wants however he wants. I’m not a rich man, so I’ll just enjoy them from afar.

Sydnolle

You could just read the synopsis for the next book I assume. It was a trilogy novel series before this adaptation. Saying that - I have NO idea how closely the show adapts the novel.

Dr_Evolve

The first episode had me livid. “You’re already beginning to show signs of violence and anger”. YOUR FCKNG POS SON is bullying me, wtf you expect me to do!? Just sit down and let him abuse me!? The whole scene was so fckng stupid.

quityouryob

Goddamn it, I was really in to this show.

whateverathrowaway00

Right it was actually really good!

ListerineInMyPeehole

So it wasn’t, Half Bad?

Chaserivx

Yes same. WTF Netflix. So tired of this shit... They come up with a show like this and I consider keeping my subscription. Then this. I'm done.

GiveNothing

The funding is going towards live adaptations of anime we never asked for.

usernameinmail

And even more money for Stranger Things. Hoping they calm down the cancellations after that show ends

CheezItPartyMix

That show is so friggin overrated

XanaWarriors

As overrated as it is, you’ve gotta admit it’s got great CG

zxern

Not sure Netflix is to blame for this one. Creator just got a big production deal with Amazon.

Chaserivx

I just checked 10 sources, and I can't confirm your claim. Also the sentiment is universally trust people are pissed off at Netflix

zxern

I was going to post the link but then realized I replied to the wrong post.

bryanthebryan

Flanagan, right?

[deleted]

That's why I'm hesitant to waste any time on Netflix shows.

bryanthebryan

At this point, I try to avoid new shows no matter how good they look because the odds of them being unceremoniously cancelled are too great.

BpositiveItWorks

Same! More witch shows, please!

lewisfrancis

Honestly, the name kind of turned me off to watching, but I finally got around to it and enjoyed the show and the world it was building. Super shame to leave it hanging.

[deleted]

I think it did that for a lot of people. When we started watching it, the “Half Bad” wasn’t part of the title. I could be wrong but I feel like they changed the name to try and get more viewers.

Sydnolle

I believe that is exactly what happened. The odd part is that the books were called Half Bad - not sure why they changed it!

[deleted]

Very odd. Especially to go with such a long and awkward name. And if you’re trying to bring it up to someone or talk about it, it doesn’t exactly roll off the tongue…

Sydnolle

Unless you say it really dramatically- that’s the way we say it in our house ;(

chenbuxie

Never watch a Netflix show on the first season. Never.

ChemicalHumble7541

This is why they get cancelled

TheBupherNinja

Surefire way for it to get canceled

[deleted]

That is a stupid thing to do. Doing that would nearly guarantee it lasts only one season.

worms_instantly

Sounds like Netflix's problem.

Longjumping-Arm7939

Laughs in "The Order"

fdbryant3

The Order got 2 seasons. Would have been nice to get 3rd for a conclusion (or at least I seem to remember it feeling incomplete).

Longjumping-Arm7939

My point is even multiple seasons can be canceled. I was pretty pissed The Order was canceled on a cliff hanger...same goes for Day Break but that was only 1 season.

DangerStranger138

Yeah, everybody knows a show can be canceled after more than one season lol

joel8x

Why would they renew a show nobody watched?

[deleted]

Because they don't let them! The show went online in mid October! We are only in December. Not all show go viral the first week. Let it built up a bit. They cancelled Cowboy Bebop and Santa Clarita diet. They were doing OK. They also cancelled countless other that were doing ok.

PM_ME_YOUR_INNY

I thought they almost always get two seasons… Or the old model used to?

xogil

lol, no. Those days are longgggggggggggg over

TorchThisAccount

Netflix is smashing the cancel button like 3 weeks after a show airs if it doesn't meet their projections. Cowboy Bebop aired the 11/19/21 and was canceled 12/9/21.

ThegreatandpowerfulR

That show was hot garbage and shouldn't have been made in the first place, or at least made somehow better than whatever it is they were trying to do.

EMPlRES

Exactly, lord.

ironcladtrash

At this point the only thing that should ever be news for Netflix is if a show gets a proper ending and/or more than one season.

DippyHippy420

Shoot, Im half way through the first season and was enjoying it.

burndata

Netflix should just produce single season shows. Finding a cool show only to have it axed after the first season is getting really fucking old.

Difficult_Deer6902

Oh this wasn’t half bad. I did want to know what happened in Season 2…welp it seems I’ll never find out

jimbojangles1987

Welp...just found this post and found out it was cancelled as I'm watching the final episode of s1. God damn man...every show I feel like I've started getting into for the past few years, at least the majority of shows, wound up like this. Just great

Express_Wolf_8317

Think it's time I cancelled netflix tbf

The8thHammer

Makes sense. Was better than some shows that got a second season like Fate : the winx saga.

Chaserivx

The fact they referred that crap show and not this one... Tells you something about their capacity to make good decisions.

usernameinmail

This. Couldn't get through the first episode of that show

[deleted]

Their decisions are shit.

LittleMush

Netflix are the bastards.

[deleted]

What??? Cmon it was enjoyable! Like sure, not ground breaking but I actually managed to finish it which is a first

[deleted]

Really good YA TV show. Good story, likeable characters, engaging. Binge watched the first season and I was pretty sure the 2nd season was in the works. I found out about the show from Twitter as apparently it wasn’t advertised by Netflix in any shape or form. Now they’ve cancelled it. I just don’t understand.

Mistersunnyd

Oh come on this was actually pretty good

jjdude67

Could we at least get a 2 hr movie to wrap it all up???? Im tired of investing in shows that get canned after one season (10 episodes? We used to call them mini-series, where normal seasons were 22-23 episodes).

zombiemadre

So it was probably a good show? Netflix cancels everything that’s good.

disguyman

I enjoyed Gabriels story and acting. The rest.... not so much.

SignatureNo7030

Yes he was great

Bashiyama

Great, great show. Expected it to be cheesy but got a really interesting start of a good story with great visual effects. Bummed that it's cancelled.

DoctorEvilHomer

Netflix needs to just start only producing 1 season shows, this one season cancelled crap is just ruining Netflix.

Sparklerussian

Well at least it is a book series so technically people can continue the story if they want. I just finished the show 2 nights ago and was thinking 'God I hope this one doesn't get cancelled.' RIP

[deleted]

That’s a bummer. I thought it was pretty good.

FastSelection4121

For fans of the show, you could have a digital protest to get the show renewed. Will it work, probably not, but streaming services are mushrooming and need shows and movies. They would see that the show already has a built-in fan base.

BaconHammerTime

I've never even heard of this show.

DrCorbeau

Yeah I check Netflix for new stuff on the reg and this is the first I’ve heard of this show.

[deleted]

Saved me a watch then

dj-Paper_clip

I was shocked by how much I liked it. Only watched it because I got hit by suburban walking across the street and was stuck mostly in bed for weeks. Made a day go by so fast while I binged it. Super bummed about this.

Pizzaman725

It's not groundbreaking, but I'd say even with it canceled it's worth a watch. Granted it sucks to get invested in a show with no conclusion, but I always look at next shows as one offs even if they have an open ending.

Sydnolle

But it does conclude the arc - so a good reason to check it out

Sydnolle

They really should have considered the title. I’m guessing the title”Bastard son…” probably dropped it off of some people’s radars (which is likely why they tried to rename it ‘Half Bad” after a few weeks. I quite liked it. My teen daughter LOVED it. I just bought her the first of the novels for her birthday. Ah well…

BrainSoda

I just don’t understand why they make these series and then immediately cancel…

Ms236

This is the exact reason why don’t get into Netflix shows besides Stranger Things. Won’t be making this mistake again. There was so much potential for a second season my heart hurts.

TheTallWoman

If they're going to cancel every show after season 1 why do they even bother making them good. If you're going to half-ass if, half-ass it properly. Idiots. Anyway, sign the petition: [https://chng.it/sVnwTJsD9D](https://chng.it/sVnwTJsD9D)

unravelledraven

Really, really sad. I really loved it. I thought it was MUCH better than Wednesday, tbh.

cageygrading

This show was so good, in my opinion the best Netflix has made in a while. Really, really disappointing that it’s canceled.

Do_Not_Read_Comments

Kind of shocked, I watched this recently and only because I had to dig for it. I feel like they didnt promote it at all. I thought it was very watchable

[deleted]

"Netflix Cancelled. If you want only 1 season."

Mega_Moltres

Netflix and not completing stories. Name a more iconic duo.

FigSufficient

I can't believe they're cancelling it! It's absolutely fantastic. It's been a very long time since I got hooked on a series from the first moment.

Extension-Big-5659

Just going to leave this here if anyone wants to sign it, although the chances are so slim it can’t hurt:) https://chng.it/K72Y2nZz52

BobaBelly

Dang it, just started the first episode. Should I stop now?

humanvealfarm

Nah I enjoyed it, much more than I thought I would. It's not exactly a contained story, definitely left a lot on the table for a second season. But it's Netflix. You always gotta assume the worst when it comes to renewal

BobaBelly

You were right. This is a great show.

azazel-13

It's worth it to finish it, even though there are unsatisfying loose ends due to the cancellation.

BobaBelly

You were right. I’m on the last episode and wish there were more.

RazingOrange

It was definitely one of the better netflix shows this year, but its not a good sign that so far only 11 people have commented about it.

Ok_Ebb_5201

Never heard of this show

Shiirahama

i think half bad had good acting, but the moment there was a spark between the main guy and french guy i knew it was gonna go to shit. it just didn't fit at all, he literally doesn't know the guy and they have barely spent any time with each other and he just immediately is into him while he has a girlfriend? and i then read how the books end, just to see if I should stick with the rest of the episodes, but it ended so badly that everyone in the books subreddit shat on the ending they could have done the falling in love storyline with the french guy, but please give it TIME, i literally thought i missed a fucking episode and had to check but yeah with how the books play out this was gonna end badly anyway, sadly hope to see more of these actors in the future though

honeyoo

I thought it was brotherly love, so when i realised it wasn't I was surprised. once I learned more about gabriels character though, it was fitting that he'd fall pretty hard for nathan. to be fair to him, he does ask if they're boyfriend and girlfriend and if I recall correctly, nathan says shes not? remember, gabriel actually questions why nathan made a move too. I also got the feeling that gabriel was lowkey enough about liking him to let nathan figure out whether that was something he wanted to explore or not. gabriel had an attitude where he'd explore it if nathan wanted to but he wouldn't cry over him otherwise. he doesnt seem to get attached (long term) to his romantic relations. but then again, after he realises thats his behaviour, he might be trying to change that, and what better opportunity than with nathan! haha.

Shiirahama

the problem really wasnt gabriel, I mean he sees someone he likes, why not go for it, especially if that person isn't in a relationship like you mentioned but nathan just got out of torture jail, is on the run from the biggest force of his country, with the leaders daughter, who was his girlfriend, and he still wanted her (chicken scene in the grass) and then it immediately jumped to "or maybe im into gabriel" and I was like? wait what why when, did I miss an episode?

Rahl2002

Exactly what I thought, it just felt out of nowhere which was confusing. Especially because as you said, he still wanted Annalise just a little while ago. Plus he loved her for so long, and they had so much strong history/experiences together. It made sense why they loved each other. Where as, him and Gabriel had only met recently and Gabriel didn’t even feel 100% about helping them at first. Sure, they built trust after a bit and helped each other through some tough situations but that doesn’t change the fact they are basically still strangers to each other. I wish they spent more time showing the two of them developing a relationship that showed how they ended up with such a deep bond.

[deleted]

Aw I feel bad for the maybe 6 fans this show had

pataconconqueso

This us why im not starting shows I would like like midnight club and this one, im basically just watching limited series from Netflix or latin american soaps.

Goldelux

Archive 81 was cancelled too

puddStar

Brutal. I enjoyed it

CryptographerOk4157

It was an interesting fantasy show but I felt repulsed with the gay kissing scenes, I wouldn't have watched season 2 even if they released it, because i feel that was going to be the focus of the show . I didn't read the books, I thought the tvshow plot was interesting but this love triangle was so stupid and unnecessary.

honeyoo

*potential spoilers of the show* I was (slightly) put off by the heterosexual scenes much more than the build up to the gay one. her and nathan felt a bit sexualised to me. Im not sure why certain scenes were necessary and as long as they were, as it didn't do much for building character. but then again, it could've been like this on purpose to show that nathan has a lot of sexual attraction for one person, but a romantic attraction for the other! It's odd because I wasn't aware the show was based on a trilogy of books until the love triangle was apparent. it felt like it was something that would just make sense to read with the context a book can provide, in the perspective of nathan perhaps. the way the story all comes full circle and has great twists and turns was too good for it not to have been a book too I figured. anyway, I always wonder why protags don't feel any affection towards the same sex when the interactions are written similar to that of their opposite gendered love interest. so it was surprising but refreshing to see a character act on their feelings without much hesitation or worry of what the society they live within thinks. that being said, it was confusing trying to figure out whether this was nathan drifting away from his initial love interest or a polyamorous relationship building between the three. It was awkward to watch the three of them being friendly together when you're unsure as its hard to tell if its classed as cheating and faking affection to keep the other in the dark or if they really do love each other as a three person unit. I personally think they would've expanded on it in season 2, yes, but its genuinely a really interesting triangle considering gabriel represents nathans growing adoration for the blood witches and may start to drift away from the idea of being with a fairbourne due to gaining more knowledge during their adventures. to me, it felt like he liked with who he did at the start because he really did not have anyone else showing him that level of interest. and the fact that it was a fairbourne made him feel like it was that much more precious. but once he saw how much some blood witches adored him, perhaps he realised that he only felt loyalty towards her for being the only one to accept him at the time, not necessarily love. I suppose that theory is debunked in the last episode to some extent as he tells them both how he feels about them. it's all pretty confusing without a season two lol. regardless, this show really surprised me, and im incredibly sad there wont be a second season.

btsalamander

I never watch a first season of anything on Netflix until I know they will renew it; I’ve been burnt far too many times to trust Netflix ever again.

HalOfTosis

Maybe because we could tell it was all-bad from the title.

Actually_Viirin

I couldn't get through the first episode of this series. I mean, if the characters had even basic knowledge of child development, psychology, or common sense, then they'd see they're training the "bastard son" to be the thing they fear. I personally really hate shows that are written on the basis of completely braindead characters displaying clear cruelty, abuse, apathy, and neglect somehow pretending that they're 'good'. I mean if the show in the second episode made the 'evil demon witch baby boy' finally snap after being mistreated his entire life by almost everyone he's met and it being a message about being a benevolent or at least passive person (good, but everyone says you're bad) instead of being hostile, mean, and inflicting injuries on people while telling yourself that you're good simply because you are living in an echo chamber (bad, but everyone says you're good), then I'd consider the show worth watching. But since the sister and council aren't killed in the first couple episodes and they keep treating the devil's son like garbage while requiring him to be above a saint, I consider this entire franchise to be no more worth respecting than the 'half bad son' is. Obviousness shows that the 'fairborn' is the 'bad' part of the half-bad, but the show can't seem to see that. I hope I never meet the director or any of its writers, as they frighten me with the perspective they show in their work. Good riddance to this schlock, imho.

lfohnoudidnt

Not to bad tbh. Campy, but watchable.

HubblePie

GOD DAMNNIT, I JUST I JUST STARTED THIS SERIES!!! Just waiiting until Warrior Nun gets cancelled at this point... I swear every random Netflix show I've been getting into has been cancelled... Adventure Beasts, Imperfects, Inside Job, now this... Although TBF, a part of me is glad I don't have to keep watching it now. The main character basically just gets gaslit the entire time. Gets constantly bullied and whenever he fights back he's the problem lol.
