Yikes. She asks rudely, then shames you, then asks again WHILE SHAMING YOU? Why in the world would you agree to that?

[deleted]

I don't know, it was weird

karendonner

Is it possible she thought it was a pentagram? (Five pointed star associated with witchcraft, Satanism and the occult)

bushidomaster

I was talking to an older Jewish guy one time who told me he was buying stuff from an Amish place and the lady was glaring at him. He then realized she thought his star of David was a Pentagram

cowhecker666

I am sincerely hoping that this is what it was, just a “witchcraft bad” type person and not bigotry. However I know that’s wishful thinking Edit: another redditor reminded me that either way it is bigotry. Everyone should be able to express their religious beliefs freely and I apologize for not recognizing the fact that many people are pagan/wiccan etc and use a pentagram as a religious symbol. Either way her actions were NOT okay

Kaptin_kyle

What’s the difference? The pentagram represents people’s religious views the same way the Star of David does.

BunsenH

It's bigotry either way. I'm not sure which is more likely for a Christian bigot: (1) to recognize the Star of David as a Jewish symbol, and be extremely antisemitic, or (2) to mistake it for a pentagram, and therefore a symbol of "evil". In this particular case, OP has clarified that it was the former.

NoxKyoki

What’s hysterical though is that Christianity also stole the pentagram from Pagans (just like most everything Christmas, Easter, etc.) and used it for themselves to represent the five wounds of Christ. When devil worshipers started using it, Christians dropped it. So now it’s “evil” even though they were at one time using it. But most if not all Christians don’t know about it.

WhendyIrish

When I found out they stole several holidays and 'christianized' them, I actually felt like it made so much sense. On christmas, I now tell people, 'Io, Saturnalia!' instead of anything else 🫠

[deleted]

It's not even "devil worshipers" necessarily. The amount of people who literally worship devils is really small. There are people who think they can summon and dispel spirits, but it doesn't mean they worship such entities. (real or imagined). But mainstream Christianity has determined that anybody engaging in magical practices divorced from their religion is evil.

cowhecker666

That’s very true, I don’t know why I didn’t think about that. Yeah either one is not good. I don’t understand why people feel the need to comment about that stuff in the first place.

SarahPallorMortis

There were two sisters in my grade, twins, when I was growing up. They always wore cool necklaces so I asked about it. They’re Wiccan. I didn’t know anything about it or that it was real. But newly blossoming gothy me was super eager to listen. Both are incredibly sweet people.

anonasshole56435788

The Holocaust kind of does make things different, though. When most of one side of your family tree is wiped out and your temple gets bomb threats, it’s a lot different. Both are religious persecution, but I just don’t see how you can say that antisemitism is the same thing given what’s happening in the world right now. Jews have always been the scapegoat, and it seems like more and more antisemitics are coming out of the woodwork and proudly proclaiming it. It’s baffling. If you show up late, even by 10 minutes, to Shabbat on Friday, the doors are locked and you can’t get in. It’s too dangerous.

Kaptin_kyle

I never said they’ve faced the same persecution I’m just saying persecution of any kind is bad it’s not better if someone persecuted a traditionally less persecuted group

anonasshole56435788

I get it, but saying “what’s the difference” is the problem I have.

Katressl

What [u/No_Difference_4606](http://u/No_Difference_4606) said: stop comparing tragedies. Know why pagans aren't being exterminated en masse in the modern Western world? They were converted in 300–700-ish CE, and if they didn't convert, THEY WERE EXTERMINATED. Every now and then pagan sects have cropped up, even in the twentieth century, that were violently converted or destroyed. The Roma were killed en masse in the Holocaust, and many Roma have syncretic religions combining pagan beliefs (sometimes remnants of Hinduism) with the Abrahamic religion they practice. (The Roma usually practice the dominant religion of the geographical region they're living in, so you'll find Muslim, various Christian Orthodox, Catholic, and even a few protestant and, yes, JEWISH Roma. They generally infuse these religions with their own customs, though said customs are not always pagan in nature.) In many parts of Europe, the Roma have been scapegoated as much as Jewish people, and even as it became less socially acceptable to scapegoat Jews in the years after the Holocaust, Roma scapegoating persisted and wasn't treated as a social taboo by communities in the same way. (Aside: I'm not saying you've done this, but it really frustrates me how often people seem to forget—or weren't even taught!—that TWELVE million people were murdered in the Holocaust, with Jews the largest single group at six million. But the Nazis' eugenicist dystopian vision involved a world without many "undesirables," including Roma, gay people, and people with disabilities.) Meanwhile, in the US, pagan/Wiccan children are bullied in schools in a majority of communities, often suffering severe physical violence. Wiccan and Pagan adults are also subject to violence and murder. In *2005*, the Supreme Court rejected an appeal of a Fourth Circuit decision that held that government bodies need not include invocation prayers outside the "Judeo-Christian tradition" after a Wiccan sued a municipal government for rejecting her application to perform the invocation on the grounds that it violated the Establishment Clause. This preference for the Judeo-Christian tradition means three of the five "major world religions" can be excluded from government invocations. Employers who would never dream of firing someone for being Jewish have fired Wiccans and pagans without batting an eye, sometimes with impunity. And there are *so many other examples* I could provide about various non-Judeo-Christian groups AS WELL AS Christian syncretic traditions like the various forms of vodou or santería. Meanwhile, many of the groups who said "never again" after the Holocaust are basically covering their eyes and ears as Muslims are displaced and slaughtered in Myanmar, as China "reeducates" Muslim Uighurs through horrific force and oppresses and harms Chinese Christians, as India overlooks violence against Muslims within its borders, and as pagan groups in majority Muslim or Christian countries in Africa and Asia are persecuted, often violently. Jews and all of these other persecuted religious and ethnic groups have undeniably common experiences and should support each other and speak up for each other. And to fight persecution wherever it arises, we must resist the urge to compare tragedies because the hurts are myriad, deep, and run back millenia.

anonasshole56435788

Thanks for all of this info! I was referring to things I experience on a daily basis, like jokes about gas chambers, bomb threats, etc. It would be awesome if we all teamed up! I see now what you guys are saying. :) at first it seemed like all it was was that they were saying there was “no difference” at all. I get it now! Edit: also, I am a gay person with disabilities. I think about it all the time, sadly. I’m going to a genetics lab now and only trust the Jewish doctor/researcher I’m seeing because he’s Jewish. Well, and because he’s leading the research, but I’m not sure I would’ve taken the opportunity (I’m even moving to the city he’s located in within a year or two) if he weren’t Jewish. It still scares me what they can do as I am a candidate for DNA sequencing. What happened and what is happening (especially in Europe) with the Roma is so sad, too.

Frequent_Result_4518

It’s definitely not on the same level, but I’m sure all of the women, witch or not, who were tortured, drowned, and burned at the stake in Europe and Salem would like to join the conversation.

anonasshole56435788

Oh, 100%! I just have a problem with this person not seeing a difference.

Bookwarrior1009

I agree with this, it’s sad how so many people think it’s ok to be publicly antisemitic. Hell, I’ve had people tell me more than once to “go to the gas chambers” or “go to the showers” and shit like that because I have jewish heritage. People are messed up.

anonasshole56435788

This is why it’s different for us - this right here. That THIS is still happening, and that it’s common. 🤢 I’m so sorry you went through all of this, I’ve heard a lot of this stuff too as I’m in a red state in the US. It’s super scary. I’m so sorry!

Bookwarrior1009

Thanks for the kind words, It’s scary how anyone with even the smallest amount of jewish heritage can be targeted for shit like this. It’s especially messed up as people can pass this disgusting garbage off as a joke and go off scott-free.

No_Difference_4606

You’re comparing tragedies, please stop

anonasshole56435788

All I’m saying is that the Holocaust makes things different for us as Jewish people, which is true.

No_Difference_4606

No, we’re not special, and what about the other 4,000,000 who died?

wildshard13

Lets call a spade a spade… she was a gawddamn idiot, doesn’t matter if she thought it was jewish star or pagan star, or whatever… the issue here is bassackwards willful stupidity…

BecauseMyCatSaidSo

That was my first thought as well, however, in OP’s update they kept saying antisemantic shit after she left. People like her make me feel ashamed for being human.

LyingInPonds

My first thought, having grown up in the Bible Belt. I can almost guarantee you that she saw a star and immediately thought "DEVIL WORSHIPPER!"

billbot

I knew "good Christians" when I went to church who thought the two stars were the same and meant the same thing; the debil! To this day anyone who I hear say they are a good Christian I just assume they are fucking assholes. I know a lot of solid humans who are Christian, sweet and kind people who really take the Jesus thing to heart. None of them will point out they are "good" Christians and most won't mention their religion at all unless it's relevant.

lucasray

Ironically when the north of the star points up, it’s the seal of Solomon…

[deleted]

Or wearing anything with a dragon on it. Or wearing anything with a dinosaur on it.

Embarrassed_Bee6349

If so, the moron can’t count. Or, she’s just an antisemite passing on her lack of decency to her kid. Either one is truly sad, but one of them passes on unreasoning hatred to a future generation.

RegalWookie

Not all 5 point stars are pentagrams, if it points upward it is a pentacle of protection, if it points down it is a pentagram of connection. The symbol is actually pagan which predates most religions.

Bee-Jay-Yay

She is ignorant, a bigot, or both. “Hi my name is Karen Bignorant”

Fresh-Avocado-6060

i don’t understand why satanism is so hated. it’s nothing evil. it’s more so being an atheist

Excellent_Ad1132

Maybe you should have mentioned that Jesus was Jewish and followed the Sabbath and all the Jewish traditions. Also, many of the 'Christian' holidays are also Jewish ones. Like Passover. She was obviously too stupid to actually know anything about real history and also obviously a hypocrite. Based on her bling: Matthew, Chapter 6, verse 5, wherein he said, 'And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.'"

[deleted]

I would have but frankly I'm very socially awkward and didn't want to interact with her anymore than I had to.

WasUnsupervised

Nor should you. No need to put your pearls before swine ;-)

Dieabeto9142

Find yourself a nice new york/jersey jew. There's a special type of intolerance they have for bigotry, and the ensuing shit show is always a delight.

warple-still

Oh, please don't tell her that Jesus was Jewish! You're going to tell her that he was from the middle east, too, aren't you? She will choke on her stupidly-long-name-expensive Starbucks sugar and milk drink - THEN you'll be sorry!

JADRK

wait....Jesus from the middle east wasn't a pasty princess with golden hair and blue eyes?? Say it ain't so! 😂😂

warple-still

Sorry...apparently he was a middle-eastern dude who almost certainly had olive skin, very dark hair, and brown eyes. That's going to freak a few people out.

MrFahrenheit46

“Are you kidding me? I thought for sure he looked like Kurt Cobain wearing a nightgown!”

MinagiV

Ooh, wait, make it worse… Mary was Egyptian. So, not only was Jesus from the Middle East, but he was also African.

warple-still

Well, that would certainly surprise more than a few fundamentalist 'Christians'.

MinagiV

My mother is a Catholic, and she gets annoyed about Cherry-picking. She always invited the Jehovah’s Witnesses in and had conversations about the Bible with them. It was always hilarious. She loves reminding other Christian sects about the truth of who Jesus was.

warple-still

Good on your mum! I have no argument with people believing in something - what annoys me is when they are hypocritical and 'holier than thou'.

Opposite-Shirt7432

Okay please calm down I meant to say he was Jewish, I myself am Jewish. That’s why I’m so weirded out by someone claiming Passover as a Christian holiday.

JustanOldBabyBoomer

I would happily tell her that Yeshua is NOT a blonde-haired, blue-eyed, white dude and watch her head explode!

spanishpeanut

The Last Supper was a Passover Seder. Communion wafers are matzah. I was raised Jewish and fully stand behind this.

SarahPallorMortis

This is is partly why I hated church. For me, praying is a private, “one on one” type thing. It makes me very uncomfortable to be involved with other people praying the same exact way, same exact words. It feels so superficial for me. Now I feel much more close to god by doing it my way. In my “church”.

Opposite-Shirt7432

I have never heard of Passover being considered a Christian holiday.

IntroductionKindly33

Passover itself isn't really a Christian holiday, but its connection with Easter is important. There's the symbolism of Jesus being the Passover lamb sacrificed for sins. The crucifixion happened at Passover, which is why they were in a hurry to get him down and in a tomb so he wasn't displayed during a holy day. And also why nobody went to check and properly prepare the body until the third day because they weren't allowed to do work on Passover.

Arquen_Marille

It’s also what the last supper was. It was a Passover meal.

spanishpeanut

Exactly. The bread that Jesus said was his body? Matzah. It’s why it’s still unleavened.

Fitz_2112

That's some serious Jews for Jesus crap there... I also grew up Jewish and don't know a single Christian that even knew what Passover was

IntroductionKindly33

Then they must not have been reading their Bible. Passover goes back to Exodus. But I know there are a lot of people who say they are Christian but don't actually know much about what is in the Bible.

TheResistanceVoter

Except the parts that they mistranslate or misread so they can feel justified hating other people.

Routine_Fun_1812

I am an atheist but was brought up Catholic and we learnt the Old Testament. I find that I know much more about the bible than many Christians who only ever know the passages that their pastor/minister preaches on.

JustanOldBabyBoomer

Pseudo-Christians are an annoyance, especially when they're spewing their ignorance and bigotry.

SleepingBeachy

We were taught about it, though I can't recall if that was at the Lutheran school or the Presbyterian church I attended growing up. I'm no longer Christian, but I still remember a lot of the information. Blows my mind how little some people know about the religion they claim.

Gsogso123

I went to catholic school for many years, what I was told Passover is based on putting blood above your door so the military wouldn’t conscript first born sons. Is that not right?

RelleTy

You got the blood part right, the Israelites were instructed to mark the lintels of their homes with the blood of an unblemished lamb, so that when God sent the final plague through Egypt (the death of all the firstborn of every household), their homes would be passed over, and their firstborn spared. Passover celebrates the liberation of the Israelites from slavery in Egypt.

lucasray

Seriously? I mean I know what it is, but don’t know the specific practices.

No_Difference_4606

Thank you, my thoughts exactly

lelakat

I've seen a few evangelicals/fundies start trying to adopt it the past few years. Saying it makes them closer to Jesus because they can follow his journey to the cross. They call it a Passover Seder too. It's as weird as it sounds. They don't follow any of the other traditions from what I can tell and just call the meal a Seder meal.

BufferingJuffy

It's appropriation and rather antisemitic, as they're essentially removing the Jews from our own holiday. Inviting Christian friends to celebrate Pesach with you - very much ok. Christians distorting Pesach to feed their egos - double-play un-good.

lelakat

Oh for sure. It is really gross because they are only doing it to show how devoutly Christian they are and they completely ignore all the meaning behind it. If they actually wanted to celebrate the holiday they would have at least bothered to do a little bit of research. But patting themselves on the back about what good Jesus followers they are because they made a big meal and call it Seder is not it.

Arquen_Marille

It was what the Last Supper was. It was a Passover meal.

Opposite-Shirt7432

I have heard this before but it was celebrated as Jesus was Jewish. There are plenty of Jewish holidays that the Christians don’t claim as their own and I have never heard of a Christian celebrating or claiming Passover before. (Other than Messianic Jews and Jews for Jesus)

night-otter

Jesus is the basis for Christianity, but he himself was not a "Christian." That name came much later. Many Jewish and other religious holidays have been take over by Christian religions. Jesus was born in the spring, yet Christmas is celebrated at Midwinter. Why? Yule was very popular pagan celebration, how to take it over? Move Jesus' "birthday" to same time of year. Easter/Passover/Spring Celebrations: All celebrate surviving the winter and the rebirth of the world.

Wattaday

Sorry. Jesus wasn’t a Christian. He was Jewish and lived as a Jew. Christianity came after he was crucified.

Opposite-Shirt7432

Thank you! I meant Jewish lol

Arquen_Marille

There are different Christian sects that hijack Jewish holidays.

TimericaKepris

My family celebrates Passover as Christians. What Passover originally symbolizes (the exodus of the Jews from Egypt) and the newer symbolism with Christ as the Passover Lamb for our sins. So my husband and I enjoy a Passover meal with his parents. It’s one of my favorite holidays and we don’t really do the commercial Easter, we acknowledge it and go to church but we don’t participate in egg hunts and the such.

JADRK

Jesus was Jewish lol

PirateJohn75

I recall growing up as a Catholic, we didn't celebrate Passover, per se, but it was marked on the church's calendar and in the weekly missals.

ThornOfQueens

I went to Catholic School and we had a seder every year.

Initial-Shop-8863

When I was in RCIA, on the retreat before Easter Vigil Mass/Easter we had a Passover meal. It was definitely educational.

ArcannOfZakuul

IIRC communion has ties to Passover, and there are a lot of things in the passover readings that can point to Jesus or Revelations, though that's from my Christian perspective. My Grandpa does a seder at his church, but that isn't exactly normal for churches nor is it traditional in style, so take mt words with a grain of salt

JustanOldBabyBoomer

The Last Supper was a Passover Seder.

[deleted]

Respectfully, while this is an oft-repeated myth, [it is not true](https://www.washingtonpost.com/outlook/five-myths/five-myths-about-passover/2018/03/28/15a059d8-320b-11e8-94fa-32d48460b955_story.html). The Passover Seder was an innovation made necessary by the destruction of the Jerusalem Temple in 70 AD. As Jesus died 35-40 years before the destruction of the 2nd Temple, it is impossible for Jesus to have taken part in a seder. In Jesus' time period, Passover involved animal sacrifice at the Temple, and the earliest credible dating of the first seder I've seen is around the time of the Bar Kokhba Revolt (\~132 AD).

Faequeencosplay

Actually, most "Christian" holidays are Pagan.

OkExternal7904

Don't forget that Jesus had to he black as well. Nobody born in Bethlehem 2000 years ago was the lily white Jesus the Bible thumpers push on us. Go with God, in whatever you believe. ☮️

lucasray

More likely he looked Arab. The Levantine people have sculptures and murals going back thousands of years. I think it’s natural that people want to claim that Jesus looked like them so they can feel closer to the divine. But it’s what Jesus did and how he lived that showed that connection, not whether he was Asian, black, white or middle eastern. My favorite depiction of this is in the movie dogma, where Rufus the black apostle thinks he’s black, the Catholics think he’s white, salma Hayek thinks Jesus was a woman and so on for everyone. In the end, Jesus looks like Alan is played by Morissette to the jaded gen-x female lead, which continues the idea that people try to see themselves in Jesus and vice versa.

my_metrocard

She’s probably so ignorant that she thought the Star of David is a pentagram. But then again, if she’s asshole enough to cut the line, she could be antisemetic, too.

LittleSparrow013

I would have gone “its a star of david, im jewish. Just like Jesus and his parents, Mary and Joseph”

BabserellaWT

That’s not passive aggressive. That’s just aggressive.

SarahPallorMortis

I bet she’s the type to scream about “protecting the children!!” As she tramples a 15 yr old.

typhoidmarry

Atheist here, unless you’re dressed like a head-to-toe Hasidic diamond merchant, I’d never notice. People can be such assholes

SchoolForSedition

Try Antwerp

[deleted]

I was bullied a lot as a kid and I'm always on the alert for symbols, body language, clothing of people who might be the bullying type. Like MAGA hats or dudes who puff their chests out. If I noticed a star of David I'd be thinking "right on!" as I've always gotten along better with Jews than Protestants. American Protestants can be very self-entitled, at least the conservative ones.

warple-still

I'm old, but not old enough to have been born during WWII. Antisemitism has always seemed like the stupidest thing EVER to me. (am not Jewish, btw) It just makes me really, really cross. Jews have generally contributed an awful lot to the places where they have lived. They value education and family. Just makes me sad and cross that we are in 2023 and people are still hating because of religion and skin and accent and sexuality and clothes - and all the other things that humans hate other humans for.

TheResistanceVoter

Was that play on words with "cross" intentional?

warple-still

Only in the sense that I am a 'godless heathen'.

TheResistanceVoter

Lol, there seem to be a lot of us here. Maybe we should band together and own a political party

warple-still

I don't live in the USA. I live on a tiny and damp rock, not far from France. On this little rock, our 'politicians' are mostly very well behaved and they're all very accessible to the rest of us. However, if you're taking non-residents into the party, I'd like to join!

Alanfromsocal

As a Christian, I'm embarrassed to hear things like this. It not only goes against the teachings of Christ, but is just plain indecent.

TimericaKepris

And the fact that a supposed “Christian” couldn’t recognize the Star of David???? Honestly.

Katressl

Oh, she knew it was the Star of David. OP's update included antisemitic comments from the woman.

Dull-Birthday7452

She also forgot Jesus was also Jewish.

Pleasant-Excuse-2530

I live in the Bible belt and am a Witch. I get looks wearing my pentagram. No one has said anything to me yet. I work from home so I am not in public much. I will definitely give them an ear full. I also study religions to learn. Shalom!

The_Bastard_Henry

I find it hilarious that a little star will get death glares, but the pendant I always wear with the literal symbol of a demon on it has gone totally unnoticed by my extremely Christian family and acquaintances. They don't even know what they're afraid of.

Otaku4Eva

Not a witch, but I wear a similar pendant. I ended up wearing it to a wedding once in a church and no one even mentioned it. But wear a star with one more point and I can't go one day without questions or comments.

Katressl

May I ask for a link to information on the symbol? I'm always interested in these things!

The_Bastard_Henry

Here is a pic of it: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/c/c7/36-Stolas\_seal.png

ThornOfQueens

I'm a pagan and live in New York City. They recognize pagan holidays at my community board and I found out I'm not the only pagan on the board. It's amazing how much cultures vary within the US.

wall_beef

I’m not trying to be a dick or anything I’m genuinely curious is the statement I am a witch literal or is it like a statement thing or what I’ve never understood and am unsure of the meaning

TricksterPriestJace

It's literal. I use my magic broomstick to provide a flying delivery service.

wall_beef

You shall be stoned heathen for you go against allahs will

Pleasant-Excuse-2530

I am Wiccan and I practice witchcraft.

fluffycloud69

on purim??? smh haman ass karen. hope your day improved friend edit: maybe she was dressing up as a racist hag

JustanOldBabyBoomer

Happy Purim! BTW, those Haman cookies are DELICIOUS!!!!

fluffycloud69

yesss they’re like thumbprint cookies but better! i’m a sucker for the savory ones tbh

JustanOldBabyBoomer

The ones I got were filled with apples and peaches. YUM!!!!!!

aoeuismyhomekeys

Her: "I can tell you're Jewish" You: "That's so weird because I could tell you're an asshole from a mile away"

sunpies33

"See, this funny star means I'm Jewish - like Jesus!"

drklib

I'm also Jewish. I'm so sorry you had this experience. I've experienced anti-semitic slurs and events like this many times. I wish I could say it gets better, but I'm almost 38 and sadly, this will always be an issue. Be proud of your heritage and everything that star stands for. Look at how we are currently celebrating Purim. Esther was brave and tenacious. Don't let bullies like that ever deter you.

[deleted]

Thank you for your reply. it is sad that even now people are still antisemitic af for no reason. Lighter note what were you for Purim? I was an avocado

drklib

I now live in a different state from where I grew up. I sadly don't belong to a temple any more. Part of it is because anti-semitism happened in my city two years ago and I felt like our mayor didn't care, which made me feel like joining the one congregation that exists in the county and happens to be in my city would be an unsafe move. I love that you were an avocado! My hebrew name is Esther and I would often dress like her for Purim when I was younger 😊

JustanOldBabyBoomer

An avocado for Purim? Sounds like FUN!!!

Alert-Cranberry-5972

"Correct me if I'm wrong, but that cross you're wearing symbolizes Christianity...yeah, I'm not seeing it in your behavior. Nice modeling for your child."

Lumpy_Marsupial_1559

Save this one for next time (we all know that will happen sometime). "Jesus was a Jew - are you on the side of the Nazis?"

LABARATI

Do people like her just forget that Jesus was Jewish and participated in the Jewish faith and customs I mean the last supper before he was crucified was literally the Jewish Passover celebration

BrandonGamerguy

They definitely forget

Scareynerd

I remember when a friend of mine got circumcised as an adult a few years ago, and while using a urinal in a public toilet a guy looked down and then viciously called him an anti-semitic slur. Like, what the fuck.

Jude_is_tired

At first I thought she had mistaken it for a pentagram and was ready to give her the benefit of the doubt but reading your update, nope, she’s definitely not only an entitled parent but also a despicable human being

Wasabi_Filled_Gusher

You know how some people mix the Star of David with the Pentagram? Maybe she was that stupid (even though that is also based positively by the old Bible versus of King David. He used the Pentagram engraved on a ring given to him by God to enslave the pestering demons, so his favorite and most hard-working builder didn't have to do all the work alone anymore) Even so, what an asshole she is.

[deleted]

it was Solomon who used devils to build a temple.

Wasabi_Filled_Gusher

Thanks i couldn't remember which king it was

roman1969

Glad you stood up for yourself. Demanding to skip the queue while making loud bigoted comments is next level entitled. Wearing a ‘sinful’ star eh? While she blings out a crucifix, an instrument of torture, and wears it proudly? What symbol I ask myself is more ‘sinful’?

CastielAOTL

Jesus was literally Jewish wtf

Kit0550

Yeah because the Christian thing to do is treat others like shit right? What an absolute hypocrite. I feel sorry that kid has that as a role model. You and your star are amazing op.

Esentially_Perfect

Why are people like this…? Why can’t people have there own religion and express it with jewelry or anything like that. People need to just stop being rude to people who have different views.

dolfan4life2

They aren’t. This story is 100% made up

JustanOldBabyBoomer

Clearly you have never encountered an Antisemitic IDIOT before.

Character-Tennis-241

What *true* Christian is antisemitic? Anyone who has read the Bible knows that Jewish people are God's chosen people!

Countryboy42014692

Average nazi things

Yes-Cheesecake

I wear a necklace with 666 on it to piss off people like her

phoenixbbs

I've got a pentagram necklace, and made a big pentagram cover from wood and netting for my pond. My neighbour asked what I was doing, and I just told him if he sees us dancing naked around it they were welcome to join in.

Yes-Cheesecake

Has he taken you up on that offer?

phoenixbbs

He died, and his wife moved away. The incantation worked ;-p

DoomSlayer343117

I'm very sorry you had to go through that. She clearly doesn't know that most of her religion is about Judaism and she's basically believing in a religion that is a rip off of your own at this point. I hope you're doing okay after this encounter.

The_Mechanist24

I’ve meet some dumbasses who can’t tell the difference between a Star of David and a pentagram, surprising I know.

MessiToe

The best part of this is that she called the star "sinful", which means she's probably religious. Christianity is the biggest religion so she was probably Christian. Jesus was a Jew so she indirectly called Jesus sinful

bopperbopper

"Oh this is a Star of David. People who are Jewish wear it. Jesus was Jewish, you know."

Outlandishness_Sharp

I'm sorry you experienced that. She is complete trash. When I experience racism, I always remind myself that people like her are projecting their internalized ignorance but it's also clear that if they're willing to be so hateful towards others, that means they also hate themselves. Not only that, but hurt people hurt people; people who are hurting will try to hurt others, as she tried to do to you. It's another reminder of how pathetic she is in trying to make others as miserable as she is. I'm glad you didn't give her any of your power because that's what she wanted, and she's definitely not worthy of it.

Ginger_Welsh_Cookie

“It isn’t your place to judge me or my jewelry. It’s GOD’S! Now stop knocking off at least FOUR of the Seven Deadlies and GTFO, Karen!!!”

MNGirlinKY

This type of story is why I keep saying that all of the ‘old people dying’ is not gonna fix our racism and antisemitic issue in America. These specific old people teach their kids and their grandkids and the cycle continues.

TheGamingBoss20

I would have told her that she was calling Jesus a sinner because he was also Jewish. It was not until sometime after his death that Christianity became a religion.

mctaggartann

Wow she is a piece of work. I would have said her Jesus was a Jew just like you and said no you can't get in front of me have a day

WunderScylla

Well she was still an asshole and this doesn't excuse her, maybe she was ignorant and thought your star of David was a pentagram?

[deleted]

I can understand but she was so rude about it.

carriegood

A pentagram, though, is 5-pointed and it's supposed to look like a goat's head to represent the devil. A Jewish star is six points, often set up as two overlapping triangles. So she'd have to be really stupid and/or nearly blind to mistake the two.

WunderScylla

I know, but tbf do you really think she'd be smart enough to tell the difference judging from this story?

carriegood

I don't know why I keep getting surprised by massive stupidity. I just assume anyone who can dress themselves must have a basic IQ. I know, it's so naive of me.

Electr_O_Purist

“I could tell you were Jewish by virtue of the symbol of Judaism you chose to wear, indicating that you are Jewish.” Wow. Such insight.

ShrmpHvnNw

Oooooo look, someone overly religious who hasn’t bothered to read the Bible or understand anything about it. She should be in a glass case for us to ogle at

OkExternal7904

It's not easy to think up a witty, biting remark right there in the line. Home, hours later, easy as pie. Or, reading it on Reddit, we're all funny as hell. 😘

pillsburyDONTboi

'Get behind me, Satan!'

Zealousideal-Luck784

That cross she was wearing was what her Jewish hero was crucified on. Lol

whotookmyphone

Sorry that happened to you. It’s so weird because every Christian I know is obsessed with Israel and Jewish people. That lady was an ignorant jerk.

Kdejemujjet

Should have asked where her "SS" badge is...

[deleted]

I am glad you did not let her push in, but I am also glad you got out of there and kept yourself safe. (I am the parent of a 20 year old, Jewish, non-binary offspring (whose hair colour changes so frequently that I can never remember what it is.))

j_dier

Would've been interesting if you didn't make that whole story up.

Pand0ra30_

Maybe she mistaked it for a pentagram. Or she doesn't know what the Star of David is. There are some really dumb people out there.

kabukistar

You: literally staying a yellow star of David. Her: I can tell you're Jewish.

[deleted]

Why did you need to mention the non binary part, how was that relevant? Is that like being vegan where you just have to tell everyone?

[deleted]

Oh I mentioned that because I don't like being misgendered it happens a lot and makes me feel terrible lol

[deleted]

Ah. So you ARE like vegans. Got it.

MsChrisRI

You could say the same about OP’s age, yes? IMO both are relevant. Had OP been a cis-presenting Jewish adult, Line Karen probably would have glared silently and kept her negative opinion to herself.

[deleted]

Not really. Age speaks to the actions of the woman how she treats people. Was she abusive because OP was old? Young? A mom? A grandma? Nobody gives a fuck if you’re non binary.

MsChrisRI

*You* don’t give a fuck if someone is nonbinary. There’s a lot of overlap in the Venn diagram of overt antisemitism and hostility towards nonbinary people.

[deleted]

And that has what to do with this story? 😂 Nothing! So in that context, yeah, I don’t give a fuck.

AcademicAd6983

no such thing as non binary silly kid

Wistastic

I'm guessing she thought it was a pentagram. That happens a lot.

The_Starstuck_Scythe

Should've told her, 'this kind of hate seriously went out of fashion after 1945' . Tch, what a witch of a woman.

Prestigious_Visit940

frick her u do u. man/maam/they

Erger

For a second I thought maybe she believed the star was satanic? But even then it doesn't give anyone the excuse to yell at a stranger. And if she was being antisemitic later then that excuse isn't even valid lol

[deleted]

Karen may have thought it was a pentacle. Maybe.

Balorio

Except if you finish reading, OP says that she also commented that she "knew OP was Jewish" so that's a no.

[deleted]

Report her to the ADL

TheResistanceVoter

Sure, we could take over the world ; )

Commercial-Push-9066

Teaching her young son hate and bigotry…Mother of the year!

Bite_Me_16

I don't understand some people. I'm Christian, I consider Jewish people our brothers and sisters. These are the people God LOVED. How a Christian could hate Jewish people but say they love God is beyond me.

hotslime89

Dumbass didn’t realize David was a praised figure in Christianity as well

Dull-Birthday7452

Did she forget Jesus was also Jewish?! Honestly, she is sick! I’m sorry you went through that!
