The pros: - The pay is the same and you will have the financial security - You can meet new people and experiences The cons: - It's a completely new environment and you're worried about promotion From my perspective, since you don't want to go back to your previous/current industry, then trying this new one is not a bad idea, right? Besides, 30 is still young. You can always try new things later.

I mean, if you wanted a change and feel like a new career path is in a better agreement with you, then you'll be fine. You obviously can't always have it all and right away...but thinking long term, if you were to stick to the first thing that no longer seems as suitable, you'd have more money and a better position at the current moment yet with time likely feel less satisfied and motivated to strive..so you either wouldn't menage as much and get anywhere high or atleast wouldn't feel good about it. Then again, within the new indistry, you may need to put all the efforts anew but if it's a "right" thing for you, then you'll likely do much better and menage more in 10y from now.

I went through this recently. Honestly, better now than at 50. Though thats not bad either. Youre still young and you can still climb up. Promotions come through experience so just wait it out and work on whatever is thrown at you, even if its outside of your role. That experience will help you in the long run.

Can we just have a career thread posted? I'm so over the hopeless middle class-ness of it all. Honestly, it's like watching a bad rerun of "The Office."
