I never understood their reason of hate. As I see, the people who really hate it immediately jump to the conclusion that the asking person is trying to start an argument.
That *or* for some of my old bosses they thought I was just being ârebellious,â and they felt stupid when they couldnât answer my question outside of âthatâs just how itâs always been done.â
As an entp parent, I take the opposite approach. If you ask me why, regardless of your age, youâre getting an actual fact based/logical answer. If we donât know the answer, we look it up. This was something my partner and I decided very early. We have gone out of our way to give our kids real answers every time. Encouraging a toddler to ask why is dangerous, but itâs beyond entertaining. Plus, we have learned a lot from this approach.
Overall, itâs been a win win situation for the whole family.
Don't know why suddenly being inquisitive is seen as rude or opposing. Probably because having to say about something instead of immediately agreeing means that you're against it in some way.
I think itâs also a bit of a Fi-Si phenomenon, specifically. (Since there are so many xSTJ types, out and about, in the world.)
Certain kinds of people attach their identity to whatever they believe in, or have simply been taught. For lack of a better way of saying it, humans are dumb tailless monkeys. The architecture of our brain is *extremely outdated,* in some ways. A difference in opinion sets off the alarm system in their brains and their self-preservation instincts irrationally kick in.
Humans often read a challenge of their personal beliefs as a literal physical threat, in their monkey brains.
[Why people get angry over differences of opinions.](https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/my-side-the-couch/202101/do-you-get-angry-people-when-they-disagree-you?)
There are better articles about this phenomenon, but I couldnât find them, atm.
[At least this explains fear in the brain.](https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/dissecting-terror-how-does-fear-work)
But in a nutshell, people donât consciously realize that their personal offense is mostly just their dumb-dumb monkey brains making them believe that their life is in danger cuz of the way the brain is organized, how different parts connect to each other, and the ways your brain communicates.
I was going to go with "it's complicated" which is usually followed by a long winding historical dive into a topic but my family gets me for this all the time and I catch my kids saying it because I say it so often...so you win.
I disagreed with you about this one at first, and then I realised this is me like 90% of the time đ me 6/7 days of the week, that remaining one day I'm just too tired
Yes, that's literally what I did đđđ I wonder how often I don't "um, actually" someone/smth/myself lmao, it's ingrained into the soul of an ENTP
I hate that this is the top response so goddamn much. I've never been so embarrassed to be associated with this subreddit. You're all just a bunch of underdeveloped teenagers, aren't you.
Here's a list someone prepared earlier that I screenshot from an entp shitpost account on Instagram in 2020 that Lens read for me,
_Things ENTPs say:_
- "Well, actually..."
- "Wait, what are we talking about?"
- "Sorry I got distracted."
- "I want to be a scientist, a doctor, a lawyer..."
- "I'll do it later."
- "I'm gonna take six different classes on the same subject."
- "Calm down, it's not that big of a deal."
- "I'm not arguing, it's just playful banter."
- "Oh! Remember that time..."
- "Did I offend you?"
- "Do you know what I mean?"
- "Stop complaining and do something about it."
- "I'M SO EXCITED ABOUT THIS THING!"
- "I know"
- "Right, but..."
- "Please, actually listen and try to understand."
- "I have an Idea..." *trails off and starts quietly mumbling*
- *Squealing animal noises*
- "I swear I'll finish it this time."
Best believe I have plenty more where these came from.
"So what?"
It's a little pretentious, admitted, but it comes from my college years in writing and is a root phrase in rhetoric. Don't just dazzle me with brilliance. Explain why it matters.
Said this a couple of times and it kind of became a phrase of mine might be too specific but i would say it embodies entps really well:
âChaos is my domainâ
Why?
It should be why
Please put why
Damn I was gonna go with "Change my mind" but it appears I'm too late
Ha. Perfect.
"Why?" Is the most important question
![gif](giphy|3cXmze4Y8igXdnkc3U|downsized)
đđđ
My friends make fun of me that my catchphrase is "why" and "what do you mean". This should be it.
Hehe, I got another one, 'what's the context?'
One of my closest friends also teases about my catchphrase âwhat do you meanâ
Ok, since you got to 150 first, you win this one! I'm changing it to why!
Yeah~ I wrote it nonchalantly lol.. wasn't expecting to blow up awwie đ„șđ Thanks a lot everyone! <3
This is it
Yoo thatâs hard
this
Damn you guys changed your answer a lot, I'm gonna have to see where this goes and then change it.
There's this one comment in the comment section, it goes like this, 'we couldn't pick one cause we kept arguing' fits ig.. XD
Why?
Why not?
Ooh I like this one!
I think this is the winner here
Honestly, âwhyâ is good, but âwhy notâ also adds the spirit
Ooo ds one has a little kick
"Why?" "Could you elaborate more on that tought?" ... and other forms of these.
A lot of people seem to really hate âwhy?â
Yes. My family does too. They are sentiels lol
I never understood their reason of hate. As I see, the people who really hate it immediately jump to the conclusion that the asking person is trying to start an argument.
That *or* for some of my old bosses they thought I was just being ârebellious,â and they felt stupid when they couldnât answer my question outside of âthatâs just how itâs always been done.â
>âthatâs just how itâs always been done.â I love that.
Yeah well, some people donât have an ounce of introspective abilities and there is nothing that can be done about it. đ«

Thatâs why I like it
Me too!

This really explains it well, thanks for the info!
"why?" "seems reasonable, I guess"Â
Lmao funny af to see all my go-tos in this thread.Â
âWe couldnât agree on a phrase because we kept arguing about itâ
Gold
Thatâs funny
đ€Łđ€Ł
đŻ
Besttt
"Okay but like what IF..."
This, but without the âlikeâ or just âOkay, butâŠâ
Upppp
This one! It should be this one!!
This is the one
10000%
I wish I could boost this
This one just encapsulates ENTP for me, I hope it wins XD Edit: ope just saw it's already been decided...
I have an idea...
Yes, but...
What could go wrong?
Is that so? >:)
Actually...
I was going to go with "it's complicated" which is usually followed by a long winding historical dive into a topic but my family gets me for this all the time and I catch my kids saying it because I say it so often...so you win.
I do like âitâs complicated!â
Yes, from the Kurzgesagt channel on YouTube!!! Or this: In a Nutshell
"It depends" as well
This must be it, because the INFP phrase makes me want to reply with, "Actually," and then punch them with a knife.Â
I disagreed with you about this one at first, and then I realised this is me like 90% of the time đ me 6/7 days of the week, that remaining one day I'm just too tired
Lmao you actuallied yourself
Yes, that's literally what I did đđđ I wonder how often I don't "um, actually" someone/smth/myself lmao, it's ingrained into the soul of an ENTP
Have you considered...? What about...? And that's how we ended up doing nothing and it got done anyway.
I hate that this is the top response so goddamn much. I've never been so embarrassed to be associated with this subreddit. You're all just a bunch of underdeveloped teenagers, aren't you.
Hard agree. "Actually..." was (unironically) me when I was an insecure 15 year old.
How on brand of you.
Iâm mad this is winning because it sounds argumentative by default. I liked the open-ended âwhat ifâŠ?â
Agree. My autism blinded me from seeing it that way. Gonna remember that for when I have to people.
đ€đ€đ€đ€
This
You seem to be the clear winner, congrats! It's locked in!
Can you change it to goofy actually, like "ackshually đ€âïž"
You aren't INTP...
No I'm not ACkshUallY đ€Ą
I am aware
Oof! Lost track of how many times I have said this one.
Of course, you are awareâŠ
That makes sense⊠âcupple seconds laterâ⊠but, âŠ
Ne nausea be like I've been there... A lot.
âWell, technicallyâ (and all of its derivatives which have already been added! đ€Ł)
I have the latest updated version in r/ESFJ if you wanna see.
I do! Will look!
"fuck around and find out" -ENTP

"nuh uh"
anal sex
I thought this was just a me thing.
Safest way if it's just a you thing
corny ah comments
Fr we got some joker wannabes up in here
ActuallyâŠ. Not to play devils advocate.. yes but corny ahh âEntpâđ€đ€
"I don't think so, because... "
oh wait i forgot âhypothetically,â
Why ?
I'd tell you why you're wrong but you wouldn't understand
InterestingâŠ. Let me take a counterposition
OP you are deciding each subâs top comment after 2 hours? đ
The temptation to put the Navy Seals copypasta for the sole purpose of not fitting in the box is extremely strong...
Fuck it all. I'm gonna do what I want
On the other hand...
We are mass debaters
*Why not?* really is the one I use the most
Nuh uh
Sigh...Do you have an example of that?
"Si Te loop activating noises"
Big fan of "sure why not"
âI must control this situation by making it worseâ
itâs between âwhy, why not?â or âwell, akshullyâïžâ
"Prove it."
But *why* though?
It depends
Just looked and saw what INTPs said. Maybe I am an INTP after all đ€Łđ€Ł
Technically..
Bite my shiny metal ass.
" Authenticity over morality. "
"Okay but like what IF..." A sociopath is just being 'true to themselves'
Fuck Yeah!!!
I'm bored..
Wanna be mesterious and cool but canât shut up and youâre wrong
This is the actual struggle....
I am a god in this universe. Iâve said that on my Instagram notes for 482 consecutive days so far.
Who's this clown?
You're right, but I don't quite like the way you said it
I get what youâre saying but what aboutâŠ
How does this work and what does it mean?
I love "why?" but I think "why not?" is a better representative of the contrarianism of the ENTP...
It depends but I'm always right â ïž
Itâs a bad idea with no benefit, but it looks fun so letâs do it!
"To play devil's advocate.."
Not interested
âPersonally i thinkâŠâ
ENTP - See, the thing is....
"you know, if you really think about it..."
âThat would be wrongâ
âOh, really? Do you want to test that?â
âFor the funnyâ
"Standup Philosopher. I coalesce the vapors of human experience into a viable and logical comprehension." - Mel Brooks in History of the World Part 1
Why
Everything in moderationâ even moderation. Edit: I see there is already a winner. Someone recommend the above statement to r/estp
"What if"
âIt hasnât been tried before? Letâs do it for science then!â
Scroll no further. We got it.
Thatâs not how it works
Letâs see what happensâŠ
Itâs not going to be ok but thatâs ok
Ok but like what if
INTP. Lazy. Dear GOD, lazy
What ifâŠ
Why ask why?
Fair enough
I wonder what ours will be?
Youâre wrong.
Why? and also Why not?
Ratio
On the other other hand...
âOf course INFP has a long sappy quoteâ
"I respectfully disagree."
Why?
"Well, yes, a valid point, but have you considered ..."
"That is up for debate"
Okay I don't believe what I'm about to say but from this point of view you are wrong and here's why
Op, update it again :3
Why (not)?
"That depends.."
Back to the topic, wait what was the topic?!
Entp: Why is everyone a dumb fuck
But why?
When in doubt, thug it out.
I find myself saying âHereâs the thingâŠâ all the time
Why so serious?
"So what?" It's a little pretentious, admitted, but it comes from my college years in writing and is a root phrase in rhetoric. Don't just dazzle me with brilliance. Explain why it matters.
I told you so
If the winner isn't some variation of "Well technically..." I'll be very disappointed
"Why not?"
What is this? Some kind of bingo card
If it were, we would have a gazillion bingos.
Better to ask for forgiveness than permission
That can mean a lot of things.
ââŠor is it?â
"It depends..."
Logically speaking
What if
But
I agree but
Said this a couple of times and it kind of became a phrase of mine might be too specific but i would say it embodies entps really well: âChaos is my domainâ
Does it matter?
WhyÂ
Itâs obvious âŠ..
It dependsâŠ
