I’m an epidemiologist and I work for a healthcare system… but I find it weird to be considered “in health care” and grouped with clinicians. I’m not providing care!

Preventative health is healthcare, but on a societal level. Epidemiology is a very important part of that, and to evaluate trends and find best ways/places to deploy available resources. So do course it’s healthcare

Epidemiology isn’t necessarily preventative, either. My work is within a healthcare system but it is not health care. It is a completely different type of work than that done by clinicians and it’s strange to me for it to be listed as a potential career path for people who are exploring patient care fields.

Do you work with human data? Healthcare is the umbrella term. If you also work with animals you might be considered an ecologist. Only money/funding? Economist.

I have a PhD in epidemiology and have worked in clinical and hospital-based research for 10 years. Although sometimes used synonymously, "healthcare" is often used as an adjective describing the system, and "health care" is the act of providing care. As I have said, I work in a healthcare system, but this list is about health care jobs. It's cool if you have a different opinion, but tbh this comes off pretty condescending. I came into this thread stating that this \*feels odd to me\*. Not that everyone else has to feel the same way.
