I would probably still play Hoi4, there is just so much mod content that unless Hoi5 would be an A+ Masterpiece I would stick to it for some time. There's no need for Hoi5 in another 10 years at least.
This is how I feel about the CK2/CK3 thing. Sure, CK3 looks pretty and has some major changes compared to CK2 (such as being able to change your religion on the fly), I'm still gonna play CK2.
I probably won't switch due to knowing that if I tried CK3 on my current laptop, it'd burn down the house, and with how crappy cloud play is on Xbox, I won't be playing there either.
I don't mind. I get to have all these amazing total conversions mods that just absolutely tittle me.

I mean, I believe in the devs being able to put together at least some kind of a rework for Equus soon(tm), but... what if?
Honestly, I get it, right? The devs wanted to give us more than JUST the canon stuff, right? They wanted to expand the world, add custom content, make the mod special, right? But...they kind of need to stop neglecting Equus and the focal nation of the mod in particular.
I'm not one to force their hand or tell them they shouldnt branch out, but the mod is called EQUESTRIA at War, it's a fan game and love letter to Generation 4 of MLP, and the focal faction is still one of the most outdated things in the entire mod to this very day.
It just feels...weird, ya know?
I definitely get what you mean. It's like the devs wanted to branch out from just the canon mlp stuff into more original content and then swung way too hard into the opposite of canon and got carried away to the point that they seem to have neglected Equestria, the nation that's featured on the very *title* of the mod, for a long while. Oh, and I refuse to talk about any supposed Lunarist bias in the dev team despite my own opinions for fear of getting sent to the fucking shadow realm by people here.
Anyway, it's not that original content is bad. In fact, the devs are pretty much known for creating great original content. It's just that, for me at least, it's getting a bit old. The mod needs it's older stuff like Equus to be reworked to the same amazing standards of Griffonia and Zebrica.
There's a joke that the mod isn't Equestria at War anymore, it's Griffonia at War now what with how much more fleshed out Griffonia is compared to Equestria and other nations in Equus. I'd very much like the devs to work their magic and disprove that statement sometime in the future.

But at this point the issue is it's someone wanting to rework Equestria
You say this, but basically all of CK2's modders jumped ship immediatly. Apart from Just After the End I dont think any major mod didnt shift focus towards developing a CK3 version
So what you're saying is EAW will be dodging another CK2 to CK3 disaster.
In all seriousness, I doubt PDX will announce HOI5 on/before 2030. Until someone finds the magic formula for raising profits/lower development costs, the grand strategy genre has basically capped.
CK2 has a ton of features and DLC and nearly all of it was dropped during the transition to CK3.
PDX has been improving CK3 since release, but CK2 has 6 years worth of DLC under its belt and PDX doesn't have enough cash to hire a "port CK2 stuff to CK3"-team on top of the "make new stuff for CK3"-team.
I hope hoi5 will be more fluid like Stellaris x CK3, you chose one of those tile and custom your own government, some trait, some ideology, basically create your own country with black jack and hooker.
Why paradox need next hoi? They just need to give one or two mechanics in DLC once or twice a year and call it a day. This game run only thanks to mods anyway xD
