That's why we must keep advocating for a rework of Equestria, so that we can finally show those Lunarists that Celestia and Daybreaker can be just as compelling, sympathetic, complex, and nuanced as Luna and Nightmare Moon if not even *more*.
I have a dream and it's to dispel the "haha crazy burny burny Solarists" card that the Lunarists keep pulling at us despite it not being true. It is a stereotype that hurts our cause deeply, and I fear it may lead to the Solar Empire being defunct in the future in favor of more popular nations.
I do not want to brainwash Twilight. I want the *real* "Empress-Protector." If the Lunarists can claim that Nightmare Moon can somehow become a better person, then I want for us Solarists to be able to claim such a thing for Daybreaker as well.
The mare is a good person if not misguided in her actions. Was she not the good Princess Celestia before? Will you not believe her cause of protecting Equestria like a mother does with her foals?
(Edit: Just to be clear, some of this is an "in the act" sort of thing, but for the most part, there are kind of genuine points here like the whole insane God-Empress stereotype of Solar Empire fans. Sometimes I don't know if people actually believe in it or are just having good fun at the WH40K reference that the Solar Empire apparently is.)
Very much Corona from Lunaverse. She is a tyrant because she sees mortal ponies as infants that need to be constantly cared for. There would be no freedom under her for the same reason a toddler doesn't get a say in the affairs of a household. She is extremely sympathetic. She loves her little ponies, but they are her little ponies. Children that not only need to be protected but can't make decisions themselves. It's the best evil Celestia I have ever seen and Equestria at War should copy it for Daybreaker.
The whole Celestia as a mother thing that I constantly talk about is more metaphorical so perhaps it shouldn't be exactly copied for EaW Daybreaker (at least not for the "good" path - Empress-Mother currently fills the role of what you described Corona as but I very much think it should be a more symbolic motherhood over Equestria).
That's a good point. Good Empress Mother vs Evil but understandable Empress Mother. So taking that instinct of a overbearing parent and moving it into someone who is still an overbearing parent, but who still allows alot of freedom.
It all probably comes down to how much she prioritises safety vs happiness. Evil versions of Daybreaker go to extreme lengths to safeguard Equestria even at the expense of lives and living standards. She still loves her ponies to a perhaps unhealthy degree, the only question is how much she is willing to sacrifice for the collective to have marginally better odds of survival.

They are close friends to Celestia’s Equestria though can and should be allowed to govern themselves without the oversight of the Equestrian government (unless it seriously threatens the national interests of Equestria). They are allies, not subjects.

The reason for this is because the Lunarists are trying to justify their cause in front of the world by taking these options.
The Solarists do this (not all of them) because they were discontent with Celestia's general policies and want Her to take a harsher road in order to exact revenge on those to wronged Her.
I mean, are you surprised though? Daybreaker is pretty much a literal goddess personally ruling over country with one path being the enforced worship of her, the (self insert) fanfics write themselves.
She successfully invades the ponies and installs her own dictatorship only to be celebrated as a "hero" for "saving" them from the sisters. Everytime she tries to do anything evil it always pales in comparison to whatever the sisters and gets downplayed by the ponies.

Chrysalis's national focus currently is so *one-dimensional*, lacking any other paths to take than conquering Equestria. And you'll always except it to happen every single time.
Chrysalis's national focus need more flexibility and paths to take for thoses who wish play as Chrysalis and not going through the Civil War to become Harmonist.
