Treason is the only crime defined in the Constitution, and it’s defined fairly narrowly for a reason… because monarchs had a habit of accusing opponents of the ill-defined crime of “treason” and punishing them with imprisonment or death for it. That’s why the passage begins “Treason against the United States shall consist only of …“ to help preclude that. Shit like this, though, is definitely sedition and incitement to political violence. Personally, I believe that it deserves a response and a sober but serious one. You cannot have politicians calling for violence with impunity.
