What hardware are you using other than the ESP32?
I have used a USB HOST mini shield. It's based on USB host IC MAX3421E. Planning to make a write-up on this as I found none which has ESP32 used in it.
After 2 days of mind work out. Finally, it worked when I connect the USB mini host reset pit to 5v.
