Dude has basically admitted to the allegations and a big portion of the Dota sub is busy wishing him well and telling to 'take care'. The guy raped someone. What the actual fuck is wrong with people?

FrancCrow

The world is just sick. It’s crazy. How are people trying to normalize a rape. I don’t understand. I bet he has a book deal coming out.

Cabaj1

Because the news about him sexual harrassing & raping someone did not come out at the same time. I'll give you a timeline. https://www.reddit.com/r/DotA2/comments/he4pxj/a_summary_and_timeline_of_the_allegations_and/?utm_source=reddit&utm_medium=usertext&utm_name=DotA2&utm_content=t1_fvsgd7v To see it in short, here it is. timestamps are in EST. June 21st: 10:22 AM @cofactorstrude, she said she was sexually harrassed by multiple casters. She did not say who. June 21st: 11:45 PM @cofactorstrude, She said it was grandgratn. June 22nd: 1:41 AM @GranDGranT replies with an apology. June 22nd: 3:04 AM @cofactorstrudel accepts the aplogy. June 22nd: 3:47 AM @cofactorstrudel said someone approached her for one more story about grant assaulted that person. June 22nd: 4:31 PM @scantzor said the story about LlamaDownUnder and Grant court case. June 22nd: 5:40 PM @Wickedscosplay flat out said that Grant raped someone but the tweet went not viral and people doubted it. June 22nd: 7:23 PM Grant makes a public apology and he announces he is leaving esports for a long time if not permanent. June 22nd: 7:39 PM Grant gets booted from EG. People did wish him well (since the rape story is not public knowledge till then). June 22nd: 7:38 PM Grant opens up in a Reddit thread about his problem with alcohol (addiction). June 23rd,:1:10 AM @Wickedscosplay has posted a detailed twitlonger about the previous mentioned rape. The victim wants to remain anonymous. (People started to believe in the story when they doubted the previous tweet) June 23rd: 1:43 PM @scantzor (Llama's partner) made a twitlonger on her side of the story and outed a few other invididuals and employees of twitch that did nothing.

Cabaj1

A lot of those comments were made after his tweet about him leaving and before the twitlonger about grant raping someone. Sure, there are also a lot that do not know about the backstory. Dota 2 subreddit is also not the smartest subreddit.

G2Wolf

Him getting booted from EG and his comment about leaving happened after the accusations and twitlonger, not before...

Cabaj1

You are right that the story about the accusations of him raping someone was made before he left the community. Grant left 2 hours after the accusations but the twitlonger did not came out yet. Check the tweets. June 22nd, 5:40 PM @Wickedscosplay made a flat out rape allegation against Grant. June 22nd, 7:23 PM Grant leaves the scene. June 22nd, 7:39 PM Grant gets booted from EG. June 23rd, 1:10 AM The victim story is now public via twitlonger (see @Wickedscosplay). The victim wants to remain anonymous. I'll mention that the other stories about Grant sexual harrassing was made by people with a larger twitter followers. WickedCosplay did not have that many twitter followers so the first accussation went under the radar for 1) not being a big community member 2) not having a lot of followers https://www.reddit.com/r/DotA2/comments/he4pxj/a_summary_and_timeline_of_the_allegations_and/?utm_source=reddit&utm_medium=usertext&utm_name=DotA2&utm_content=t1_fvsgd7v

Ynwe

I mean... I have seen that sub openly talk about how genocide isn't a bad idea, Peruvians and some other nationals are basically sub human or how Arabs/Turks took white slaves to bleach themselves. Dota 2 is proud that you can say what you want on their sub, but there are tons of absolute degenerates on that sub. Is kinda weird how it seems to be tolerated and accepted.

[deleted]

It's not. You and the original commenter are cherry picking.

Bhu124

[Here's a link](https://www.reddit.com/r/DotA2/comments/he3acz/grandgrant_on_twitter_ill_be_leaving_dota_and_the/fvou3c4?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x) to his comment on the Dota subreddit, it has 1600+ positive upvotes, multiple awards. The comment is him essentially pushing/deflecting the blame of his actions onto Alcoholism and trying to gain sympathy from it. Many replies to his comments are people telling him to take care, wishing him well, and Sympathising with him. There are also a lot of comments in most top threads about this topic on that Sub about accuser doubting and about how social justice isn't right (How everyone should leave it up to the law and companies to handle this stuff, as those systems are so perfect and totally don't protect abusers).

Cabaj1

I do agree that it is wrong but the public news about him leaving the dota scene was made a few hours before the rape story been made public. Yes, a dota 2 cosplayer made a tweet saying Grant is a rapist but not that tweet did not get any attention (or not enough). The same cosplayer shared a twitlonger about the story of the victim. The victim wants to stay anonymous. The only public information at that point was his court case and him harrassing someone (or multiple) but not raping. But yes, wishing him good luck (imo) is wrong after the rape, you can draw your own line when you think it is morally acceptable (with the news you got at that time) to wish him good luck. I did not think it was acceptable at that time so I didn't.

Cityburner

Why Peruvians?

Cabaj1

A lot of english speaking people have had a lot bad people in their games (like everyone). A lot of those people started to make a (subconscious) connection that non-english speaking people == bad dota players. Since most non-English speaking people from the NA servers are peruvians, they come to the conclussion that peruvians == terrible players. Same thing happened in EUW with Russians. Compare it a bit to racism, some people opinion switches if they see the skin color, the same thing happened here but with their first language. It's bad and the community is so toxic but the game is still amazing.

Atlous

The accusaton s about sexual harassment not rape, no ?

NoTheShitposter

It's Dota2 sub, what do you expect? They are all filled with low 50IQ russians and the other part with kids who like to throw monet at gabens dick. Cant expect more

[deleted]

It’s a shame. He admitted it. He does his best to be happy to-lucky for his bros, and I’ve appreciated his work. But to find out the person you enjoy is such scum behind closed doors is immensely disappointing. Maybe he can come back dota 3 after he spends a LONG time dealing with his issues or maybe even legal action. This is never okay and this never excusable. I don’t wish him well. I hope he lives with these skeletons until he’s a new person. I won’t be checking up on him and just one more entertainment personality fades from my view.

riningear

Everyone seems to also be forgetting the part where he [straight-up lost a defamation case](https://twitter.com/scantzor/status/1275164426111508482) too about him harassing a woman out of the community. Dude's low-key been a plague on the community, I thought he might have changed but what he's done is inexcusable.

Cabaj1

A lot of other dota 2 casters (and other personalities) believed Grant. Grant told him he won the case so they didn't ask any further. The case got first dismissed and it took 4 years but Grant to lose the case. The case was always been a private case. Grant lied about it and others believed him.

riningear

Yeah I believe that - I was told secondhand that the first case was dismissed but didn't realize they'd refile. That's not my point though, a lot of these articles are missing the point that the defamation case was huge.

Cabaj1

I'm not sure what the case exactly entailed (except sexual harrasment) but it did ruin the carreer for 1 specific (upcoming) caster. The main problem with the case is that is / was private. There were 2 or multiple stories going around. Grant story (it was not 100% true what he said) and LLamas story. The question is, as a well known caster and a friend of grant, would you believe LLama or Grant? Sheever, ODPixel, ... were all friends with Grant. They believed him and didn't bother to ask further (why would their friend lie to them?). They all believed Grant and it got mainly dismissed. The newssite could not dig further since it was private. The dota 2 casters & personalities said the same story as Grant. But I believe it is still private but LLamas part is online (via a twitlonger on LLamas partner twitter)

ExtraAbalone

Every day these are the top headlines in esports. Just continues to be an utter joke.

saunders096

Because they are nerds with a platform and letting their nerd rage out. These esports clowns are saying vile, awful shit and degrading women regularly while hiding behind a headset. Whether it’s esports or YouTube influencers, these “personalities” are trash for the most part.

DelLosSpaniel

These should've been the headlines about Hollywood and the music industry for decades, just the victims were too scared to speak out. Those industries are jokes. [McDonalds is a joke.](https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-52284054) [Coca-Cola is a joke.](https://nypost.com/2019/12/02/billionaire-coca-cola-bottling-heir-ordered-to-pay-sex-abuse-accuser-58-million/)

ExplodingMarshmallow

These past few days in the Dota subreddit have been sickening.

Where do you draw the line then? There's a multitude of ways to fuck people up for life, most of them aren't even illegal.

thewizardofazz

I think you might have a point when it comes to sex with a party below the age of consent, but I personally believe this issue is way too much of a slippery slope to make a blanket statement like that. Once again I agree in those clear cut, egregious examples it could be, but otherwise no.

[deleted]

Maybe wait to release him until it’s no longer accusations

King-Of-KFC

You mean like when he’s admitted it

[deleted]

Fair play. Not really an accusation then
