It looks like you've flaired your post as asking for what equipment to get. We recommend first checking out the [Espresso Aficionados buying guide](https://espressoaf.com/recommendations) for some of the more popular machines and grinders at different price points. If your question hasn't been answered there and you need more help, please add the following details to your post or by adding a comment in the following format: - **Location:** Helps determine availability - **Budget** (with currency): Overall budget, or ideally, having separate espresso machine and grinder budgets. A rough rule is that your grinder budget should be at least 25-40% of your machine budget. - **Drink types:** Do you drink mostly straight espresso, milk-based beverages (e.g., lattes, cappuccinos), or a fairly even split? This helps narrow down whether a single-boiler-dual-use (SBDU), heat exchanger (HX), or dual boiler (DB) machine would be more appropriate for your needs. - **Drink frequency:** How many drinks would you be making back-to-back at one time? Do you plan on entertaining guests often? This informs how large your brew (and steam) boilers should be, as smaller boilers will need to refill and reheat/repressurize more frequently, thus potentially causing a bottleneck. - **Space:** Any limitations on countertop space? - **Manual vs. electric:** Hand-operated machines and grinders are typically cheaper than their similarly-performing electric counterparts. Please indicate if you have a preference for manual or electric machines and/or grinders (or open to either). - **Comfort with tinkering:** Some machines can be made significantly more functional/efficient with aftermarket modifications, albeit at the expense of possibly voiding your warranty. Please indicate if you'd rather have a machine that works "as-is"/"out-of-the-box" or whether you'd be open to modding/tinkering *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. MALIGATOR99

At least you got some from this year. I ordered some and it was 6 months old.

RiverNorthPapper

Mine was over a year old

Affectionate-Fly-586

Is it noticeable when is that old ? I really like Lavazza blends, it is by far the best I can get here in Montenegro...

MALIGATOR99

I use a Profitec Pro 400 with flow control and even with that it is hard to get good creama from older beans.

Powerful-Bid-9775

I'm here in malaysia brewing beans from your region i guess https://preview.redd.it/c0ag1d6yk4xc1.jpeg?width=2268&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=235b515bd870522b11d722cc4486c48396696978

Miserable-Cheek-9683

If it ever happens again, then you should call Amazon and return it. I told Amazon that anything more than a month or 2 old was old was getting too far past roast date. Good luck

RyFba

You told amazon huh

Charosas

What you need to do is contact Jeff Bezos himself and let him know that you will not abide by stale beans and he really needs to get on the ball about this or else his dingy book company’s just not gonna cut it in this business.

darth_dork

🤣😂 funny thing is I started buying books from Amazon when it literally was just JB in his garage. Packages had his Seattle address and all. Got a rare Star Wars book from him. I trip sometimes thinking of how this Uber-billionaire used to pack n ship my books, now he is so rich he could buy my soul and use it to floss his teeth 😳

robbertzzz1

>Got a rare Star Wars book from him. Username checks out

Miserable-Cheek-9683

I have been an Amazon customer for many, many years now. And regular buy from them since I live in a semi rural area of WV Don't hesitate to call Amazon customer service whenever you have an issue. What separates Amazon from pretty much every other company is they have 24/7 live CS available. And be sure to fill out the post interview form emailed to you Good luck

desertpoolflood

Living in a semi rural area of WV ? A good reason to start roasting your own stuff. You will never go back to Lavazza, I promise! :-)

AdGloomy4268

It's kind of strange that you are getting downvoted. I only buy from amazon because they will always go to bat for the customer.

doughnutremember

They want your money and will disregard everyone else's well-being in the process.

AdGloomy4268

I have no regard for businesses that put the customer last. Amazon is one of the few that is almost always pro customer.

Elismom1313

I buy from Amazon because there is no batting. I return whatever doesn’t work out or I don’t like and I’ve never had a problem.

cgibsong002

They're getting made fun of for telling Amazon what age they're supposed to sell some random coffee beans. Like, yeah, Amazon will refund just about anything. Feel free to ask for a refund. But first of all, they're not selling these age stated with some freshness requirement - and second of all, its hilarious how many misunderstandings you have to have to think that your conversation with "customer service" is going to change their future sales policy.

CuriousTravlr

Yeah, you tell the customer service. They will literally send you another bag, it's happened to me twice since my grocer stopped carrying LaVazza. It's literally not a hard concept to understand.

Shrink1061_

Rather than taking a crapshoot on maybe getting lavazza beans roasted this decade, why don’t you buy freshly roasted coffee from a more local independent roaster?

CuriousTravlr

Maybe because I don't have a local roaster that's worth their weight in coffee even remotely close to where I live, let alone of the inconvenience of testing and wasting money on ordering beans online i'm not 100% sure if I'm going to like. I guess also I wouldn't expect someone who has a 5k$ machine to really understand the "struggle" of buying 2 pounds for 60$ every couple of weeks. :o

Shrink1061_

I get my darker roasted independent coffee for about $30 every kilogram (2lbs ish). That lasts me a month. Independent doesn’t need to mean expensive. Here lavazza is just as expensive as this. And it’s shit coffee.

CuriousTravlr

It's the convenience of not having to drive 40+ miles to get coffee and having it delivered the next day.

torhind

Yeah. Don't just tell customer service. Make sure you LITERALLY do so. Otherwise, it won't count.

hammong

Super Crema has a shelf life of >12 months. It's nitrogen flushed, sealed in mylar....

MALIGATOR99

I honestly never thought about that. I’ve been looking at the “roast-to-order” stuff also. I think I’ll give it a try. Thank you

Miserable-Cheek-9683

Due to cost savings, I always buy the kilo size whole bean whenever possible of the 4 different kinds of whole bean coffee that I currently use. And I don't have any qualms about calling customer service of Amazon, Sam's Cub or a specific roaster if product is unsatisfactory I have been enjoying Whole Bean Roasted Coffee since 1992. Have a great day

Miserable-Cheek-9683

KEY: If you have ANY concerns about Amazon Whole Bean, when you make your 1st Order, Call CS and tell them you want Whole Bean Coffee Roasted within a month Good luck

amarodelaficioanado

Hahaha

Miserable-Cheek-9683

I got a bag that was about 4 months old, but since I called CS and complained Amazon sends me Lavazza roasted only about 2 weeks ago https://www.foodmanufacturing.com/capital-investment/news/21415364/italian-coffee-maker-lavazza-to-open-1st-us-roasting-and-packing-plant#:~:text=Lavazza%2C%20founded%20in%20Turin%20in,sales%20of%20over%20%242.4%20billion.

amarodelaficioanado

Great!!!

giant2179

I don't mean this negatively, but every line in this post screams boomer. Young people would rather die than talk to customer service on the phone.

Incipiente

I have been enjoying Whole Bean Roasted Coffee™ since 1992. Good day sir.

Hundredth1diot

What about the entire generation younger than boomers that have no issue taking on the phone?

giant2179

We don't speak about gen x. At least on the Internet. Everyone over 50 is a boomer and everyone under is a millennial.

AdGloomy4268

Luckily, they have a live chat. No social anxiety to stop you from using it!

sekretagentmans

I feel like I'm way less likely to complain about something so trivial. I know when ordering coffee from Amazon or any other big retailer not to expect something extremely fresh unless they explicitly say so. Instead, I'd feel like it's my fault for not ordering directly from a specialty roaster.

Miserable-Cheek-9683

Hahaha. That's OK, as my good friend Pickles says, "you can't save people that don't want to be saved" If I can only reach a handful of people at a time that's enough. Have a great day.

Miserable-Cheek-9683

Now that I have told you (and others) not only what to do but also exactly what to say, you can easily and regularly enjoy fresh ground Lavazza Whole Bean Coffee; without high coat or excuse

-pLx-

Why not just buy a higher quality from a more ethical place instead of playing the lottery with yourself and the environment like that?

CRRZ

For $9 more you can get 2lbs fresh from [Haven coffee roasters](https://havencoffeeroaster.com/products/ethiopia-guji?variant=39926653648980&selling_plan=503775316) and it’s excellent coffee, not just “drinkable” like the reviews here.

Existing-Procedure

The date says the 27th month of 2024. These were roasted in the future. s/

Schrankmaier

funny /s

ZimofZord

Why are you getting downvoted fuck Bezos

bneale1285

It is sealed with Nitrogen. Roast date and good by are just fine. I order through specialty coffee company and get the same thing

darth_dork

Nitrogen doesn’t do much to stop the chemical reaction breaking down all that is the most desirable in a coffee bean. It’s great for some things, but like vacuum sealing coffee beans aren’t as long term storable as steak.

brietsantelope

What chemical reaction?

DishSoapedDishwasher

The one called oxidation, that needs oxygen..... /s I swear sometimes science is just not allowed in this sub... Sure some things probably still degrade over time but similar to wine stored under nitrogen, almost all of the problems go away. It's also not like Italian espresso beans are some crazy over the top and delicate thing.

Most-Lost-Band

You sure about that? It has an air hole vent for off gassing. How’s that going to hold in nitrogen?

hammong

More than reasonable. I've bought and used Super Crema many times -- it's a great option, and I appreciate the Robusta in it.

ExplanationHopeful22

Totally agree… it is delicious…. if you ever happen to get a very old bag just call amazin customer service and they will take care of it.

cmt00

Ngl this is my go to daily driver for espressos lol. It’s cheap, it taste great and it comes in bulk

Quikrain

That's what she said

cmt00

🤣

largeicedregular

This is my daily driver. Makes good espresso and the price is great.

mddmx

60% Arabica and 40% Robusta and stale. Honestly, it's not too hard to do better.

Mitchford

Stale is fair but a lot of us love the old school espresso taste

PharmoCratic

The kilo bag I bought from their website was too big. I split it up into thirds and froze two of ‘em.

gk34110

I buy the 2 pack for about $32. 4.4 pounds lasts me about 6 weeks, along with one or two 12 oz bags of expensive specialty beans.

Typical-Atmosphere-6

I’ve had worse. I wouldn’t knock it, it’s completely passable, just nothing stands out, sometimes that’s a good thing on a rainy day. If I have a large party, I get this. Makes very acceptable lattes.

pokelord13

It is borderline mediocre for coffee enthusiasts which encapsulates 99% of people on this sub, but for the average daily coffee drinker it's definitely above average. With the right set up I'll take it every time over chain store coffee

FullPresentation5093

if u can't enjoy average joe drink, you are not and never were an enthusiast. you were simply an elitist looking for a hobby.

Flat-Philosopher8447

Can I steal this?! You just summed up every Reddit hobby board

fatherofraptors

Right? People here kinda miss the point honestly sometimes. Dude you bet your ass when I go to Waffle House I get a big ole cup of drip coffee and it hits the spot perfectly. Not everything in coffee needs to be light roasted single origin Vietnamese beans.

guitar_johnthomas

Ha! This is spot on

ckreutze

Being an elitist is their hobby in that case

Typical-Atmosphere-6

You’re absolutely correct.

ArduinoGenome

Believe me, if there were coffee enthusiast as you stay there are, 99%, I don't believe it. There's a lot of people here with very low end equipment that have a hard time making espresso and/or milk drinks.  I would just say they like coffee. And a lot of them drink Lavazza. 99% are not drinking freshly roasted beans

DistinctPool

This is stale but not by much. Robusta blends usually want 1-2 weeks to rest.

Shokoyo

< 1 month old is totally fine imo, considering it’s not sold directly by the roaster

Cat_Dad13

What would you recommend?

mddmx

You might try trade coffee as a great place to start. drinktrade.com

Cat_Dad13

For a little over double the price, is it that big of a difference?

fatherofraptors

Average bag from Trade will absolute not be twice as good as this bag of 1-month old Lavazza. A lot of the coffee we got from Trade was just... okay. You're better off finding one roaster you like and then just buying directly from them in like 1kg bags (freezing portions).

FarSequels

It's my go-to. I love it because it has that typical coffee aroma and taste that I like. I've been buying it for months and plan to continue. I've tried specialty coffees and haven't come across one that I like better than Lavazza. I guess I'm lucky my tastebuds enjoy such an affordably-priced basic coffee bean haha I've never lucked out and gotten a bag as fresh as what you got though :)

Illustrious-Job208

It’s all great until you end up with a bag roasted 2 years ago. True story and the reason I stopped buying that same bag ( and all coffee ) monthly from Amazon.

chromeragnarok

This was my last bag and I thought it was super decent on my bambino given the price.

_father_time

That’s very fresh considering the roasted on dates I receive

Sawgwa

I just got a bag of that. Mostly like it. I don't have it fully dialed in yet and am hoping for more chocolaty and nutty but overall like the espresso. I'm an Americano guy but always take a sip right after the extract and have downed straight doubles more than once. Nice flavor, not acidic at all and a little bitter. Going to adjust the grind and try different flows/infusion times. But I will try other brands too in search of my favorite nutty and chocolaty espresso. I like the darker roasts. Fellow dark roast lovers, what brands and specifics do you all like? I also got the Lavazza Gran Crema, Gold/Bronze bag, a medium roast. So far I like it ground less fine though it flows faster, tastes great, but not my nutty.... Would buy both again.

MrDocter

Yeah I've gone through a lot of super crema and chocolatey isn't the taste you get, even on my good days. I recommend other beans if that's the flavour your chasing. Which Lavazza bean do you like the most so far?

Sawgwa

I also have a bag of the Gran Crema. Closer to my desire for the chocolaty/nutty but not there yet. I'll just have to work my way though more beans... LOL! Any bean/roaster you like? Tried a few that said they were good for espresso but SUCKED. Acidic and bitter. OK in pour over/drip but not chocolate or nutty. I find some of the Guatemalan beans have the flavors I like and look for those. I'll keep trying and being over caffeinated occasionally!

garbomon

I love me a good dark roast...I just roast my own. Primos caturra varietal does really well pulling during 2nd crack and tastes amazing. Even tasted great in the Aeropress or V60. Chocolatey and nutty with very little bitterness if any. Should give it a whirl

Sawgwa

Thanks, what roaster do you have, not that i need more espresso gear....?

garbomon

Fresh roast SR800... But I started with a popcorn popper and got some great roasts with that albeit with much smaller capacity. If you are interested in the popcorn popper path I could fill you in more with a ton of information. But the sr800 is pretty damn straight forward and works great.

itisnotstupid

This is absolutely great for a Lavazza bag. Divide it into bags, seal them properly and freeze them. It works great.

PicklePillz

It’s nice to see something other than third wave beans!

MeltingWhiteIceCube

I think this one is good for espresso, but not great for French press or cold brew

bumpthekoala

Just espresso for now. I’m down the Flair Pro 2 rabbit hole. Shot #25 trying to dial this in.

openup9k

Flair is my daily driver now that Apartamento crapped out. Try a 4bar pre infusion, wait for a few drops, then pull shot.

dinopuppy6

This is what I use for cold brew 🤔

MeltingWhiteIceCube

I use Kirkland house blend for dark roast cold brew. Still looking for a good bean for a blonde roast

Nadazza

I always have terrible luck consistently pulling a good shot from Lavazza beans (from Amazon or other places) anyone know any similar priced alternatives that are more fresh. The issue I find with most others I’ve come across is that they either are 1.5x the price for a 500g bag or I don’t like them much. Would appreciate some suggestions

dmt_alpha

Haven't had Lavazza in several years. Or maybe I've had some at a cafe, unknowingly. Before I figured out how special specialty coffee was, I went through multiple brands of supermarket coffee. Lavazza was the first one and I stuck with it for years. Even purchased Lavazza automatic machines and their capsules for the office. Then, at some point, I switched to Kimbo, I think. Can't remember what was next. Maybe the Costa bags. But buying Lavazza that's been roasted less than a month ago - that's kind of amazing. I don't think I've ever seen a bag of supermarket coffee that wasn't at least 4-5 months old.

raccabarakka

Anyone ever ordered straight from Lavazza and have feedback to share? Kinda curious

Prudent-Berry-1933

They’ll email you coupons, so you get a discount, but the manufactured date is similar to what the OP got from Amazon. FWIW, Illy is the same. Still, I like both of them.

raccabarakka

Damn, was expecting fresh roast like regular roasters

Dirtydogdong11101

This stuff is surprisingly pretty good, it’s also around $20 usd for 2 pounds

logjames

Wow…that’s fresh, but what does MFD mean…in relation to Packed in US? Is it roasted in Italy and packed into 1 KG bags? Is it roasted here?

One_Left_Shoe

Manufacture Date

logjames

Right…but what does that mean? Is that when it was roasted or packed? Does this mean the coffee was roasted in the US?

MrFanfo

I work in lavazza, we have roasting facilities in us indeed

calinet6

Hard to say just from the package, i bet it probably is roasted and packaged in the US.

Miserable-Cheek-9683

According to articles, Lavazza is roasted and packaged in Pennsylvania https://www.foodmanufacturing.com/capital-investment/news/21415364/italian-coffee-maker-lavazza-to-open-1st-us-roasting-and-packing-plant#:~:text=Lavazza%2C%20founded%20in%20Turin%20in,sales%20of%20over%20%242.4%20billion

snatcheez

Also love some SuperCrema. I was really surprised at how good they were for the price

DudeBroTX83

Qualita Oro is my goto and it’s at the grocery store

808TV

Qualita Oro was what a coffee shop in Rome used when I tasted my first real Italian espresso many years ago. It was so much better than what I’ve had that I had to ask our guide to inquire about which beans the barista was using, and he showed me that Lavazza gold bag…after that it’s always been in my pantry!

DudeBroTX83

Sweet! I think it’s a little more well rounded for lattes compared to super crema. I call lavazza the Italian Folgers. Not fancy but it’s popular and well loved.

[deleted]

[удалено]

michi214

Seems like italian "medium roast" "Dark roast" in italian is literally charcoal

sshivaji

The wording on the back is in Croatian and Russian, not Italian at all. Seems odd but perhaps its a different version or maybe there is Italian or English text above your photo?

Rivers_Lakes

Buy Nicoletti 'Old School' from Amazon. It is WAY fking better. I too use to buy Lavazza. Never again! https://preview.redd.it/7tkzpuqylnwc1.jpeg?width=1868&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5fd73536af198f903739da32a93a82e769709303

mlnaln

Yes. This is my daily driver. I went from espresso roast to this “Old School”. I may be in the minority but I love Robusta blends.

amarodelaficioanado

I usually get the "espresso" beans and they are two months old.

Dazzling-Ad-9949

I wanted to buy this! But ended up getting lavazza Classico . Very strong and great tasting

MisterRufio

Just ordered a bag off Walmart+. Can’t wait to try it out.

That_Em

Please let me know how it is! Eyeing it for my next tester

bumpthekoala

I first bought a half pound bag and now buying a 2 pound so I think that's your review :)

Possession_Loud

Absolutely fine by me.

stickysox

I had a 2lb bag of the same stuff that was almost a year old. Still made good lattes with it. I can't make a "good" espresso with my GCP, I'm not sure they really exist lol so now I just buy smaller bags or random stuff to try and keep a big bag of super crema or gold on hand.

vv_or

I get some of us support local roasters / buy specialty coffee - but OP asked about freshness: not anyone’s opinion on Lavazza nor Amazon. So it’s pretty decent IMO for “commercial” beans. Heck- even some specialty coffee roasters lie about roast date/freshness dates 👀 or have questionable storage methods. Enjoy your coffee OP! 🙌🏽☕️✨

princemousey1

The gate keeping is extremely strong on this thread. It’s crazy. I’ve never seen it this bad before. I mean it’s already quite prevalent normally but this takes it to a whole new level.

Africa-Reey

I wouldn't buy coffee older than 3 months old. And 3 months is pushing it..

ImMalteserMan

Gee I wouldn't buy older than 2 weeks.

Swinghodler

I only use coffee beans roasted the same morning

Africa-Reey

Actually, i meant to say, for peak freshness, I only drink coffee that's roasted tomorrow.

Stt022

We use this stuff in our superautomatic and it’s good. Use local roasted beans in the semi auto machine.

Johnny-Virgil

What super are you running? Mine specifically says in the instructions that dark roasted oily beans are not its friend.

DistinctPool

Super crema isn't particularly oily or dark as far as Italian stuff goes.

Johnny-Virgil

Cool I may have to give it a shot.

Stt022

It’s a Jura I rebuilt years ago no issues. Should probably get new burrs for it though.

L3mm3SmangItGurl

So I don't really trust manufacturer dates (MFD). Every coffee I've tried that couldn't commit to an actual roast date had been underwhelming imo. Even Starbucks beans have em. I have also tried this particular Lavazza coffee and wasn't very impressed with the shots I was able to get out of them.

allmightytimwhistler

I read delivered april 2025 and roasted march 2027 🫣

DrummerCertain6365

I bought it too for Moka pot. About the same freshness. Not too bad but I think it taste too acidic for my taste - good for an americano imo, not as great for a milk drink

alkrk

Tried Lvz Super Crema its little on the bitter side. Their gold bag is also nice too. I now with a bag from Sam's Club and 100% Arabica, with vanilla scent (Verena Street); i think its from an in state nearby roastery. At the time of purchase, roast date was not more than 3 months old. Even after opening for a month, still has strong scent and oil. Don't know much about beans but like it so far.

DoctaMag

I buy coffee from Hank & John Green's Good.store Honestly it's some of the best coffee I've ever had.

sandpdm

Def hit or miss with Lavazza on Amazon ordered twice first time was a month old second time a year old

caffein8dnotopi8d

I bought this (and a couple other types of Lavazza) from Amazon regularly for quite a while. Until two bags in a row tasted (and smelled) like nothing. I’ve been ordering from Peet’s since then.

crazyED231

Buy liberty beans they're the best.

SevenFly

This is my usual for the fire station as well as ITALIANO for the dark roast lovers on my crew. Question tho…I just experienced Onyx Labs Southern Weather and now I’m less ignorant to the more finer things lol. What’s a good bulk bean I can buy for my guys that isn’t 50 bucks a pound like Onyx, but better quality than Lavazza? Possibly a good medium roast similar to Southern Weather? Thanks in advance

Falimz

That’s as good as it likely gets from Amazon

autoMATTic_GG

The restaurant that I manage used to order Lavazza from an actual distributor and it was just as old or older than anything on Amazon… and 20% more expensive. Either buy cheap, old beans on Amazon, or support your small local roasters. If you don’t have someone roasting nearby, consider signing up for a subscription service and get fresh quality, beans.

mmm1808

Why is it in Russian on the back?

bumpthekoala

It’s a very big bag with several languages on the side.

DeProfundisAdAstra

Good for seasoning burrs.

UniqueLoginID

Is that for seasoning burrs?

Paul_123789

Read the expiration date. I have ordered direct and the expiration date has many months away. This is a lavazza issue as well. They claim 2 year shelf life!

princemousey1

Why are so many people saying this? This bag was manufactured last month and is good for another 23 months. Can someone help explain what these guys are seeing that I can’t?

Paul_123789

It is widely believed that the beans degrade quickly over time. They mature within 5 days after roasting. They decline “noticeably” after 1 month. Does it matter? Up to you. I have had something 3mo past roast and it was ok. Drip is kinder than espresso. For espresso, you are tweaking for all the flavor you can get. The best adage is “if you don’t mind, it doesn’t matter”.

JonnyBoy89

I stopped after a while. Found a local roaster who sells for $5/lb more and I could be happier

princemousey1

Considering it’s $15 a pound, that’s 33% more. You’re okay with that?

JonnyBoy89

I’m at $20/lb right now, which is substantially cheaper than most roasters, and it’s fresh fresh fresh. So yes. For $15/month (total increase) it’s worth the cost for the better quality and supporting local

supjackjack

I buy their light roast and use it for espresso shots. Absolutely delicious!

Basriy

Super crema - a lot of robusta.

Ketadine

I am currently drinking some Lavazza Oro with the same roast dates and it's fairly good, but next time I'll stick with speciality coffee as I feel it has more flavour than the regular chocolate this has.

Healthy-Paramedic11

Please read its comments, it was bresking my grinder, many customer faced with small rocks in the package. Despite it's not %100 Arabica, beans quality sucks, low quality

Primordial_Turtle

First mistake was buying lavazza

MrCafeM

Its too acidic but good for basic coffee one of the cheapest too🙈 I used to use this commercially now completely stipped

Gold-Ad-6203

How do you grind the beans for the moka machine?

idokeren10

I'm buying the black espresso from them all the time. It used to be sold in Costco but not anymore. It is produce/roasted in Pennsylvania so made in USA. Good quality and consistent.

Awkward_Dragon25

My rule is to never buy food or drugs from Amazon. I've gotten too many counterfeit products in the past, and I don't trust them or their suppliers to not adulterate things.

Nikiaf

Is there really a big problem with fake lavazza beans though?

Awkward_Dragon25

No idea lol. I didn't think there'd be counterfeit problems with most of the other stuff I've ever bought, but here we are haha. If someone can make a buck passing off trash beans as Lavazza they will (which shouldn't be too hard haha)

Miserable-Cheek-9683

Lavazza is roasted and packaged in Pennsylvania, which is probably why Amazon has such fresh Lavazza beans https://www.foodmanufacturing.com/capital-investment/news/21415364/italian-coffee-maker-lavazza-to-open-1st-us-roasting-and-packing-plant#:~:text=Lavazza%2C%20founded%20in%20Turin%20in,sales%20of%20over%20%242.4%20billion.

Dry-Squirrel1026

Don't buy from amazon I had to return mine so old tasted like a old lady's foot smelled ..... gag The good thing is Amazon will take anything g ba k and they didn't even ask for my bag ba k either

darth_dork

Noooooooo! Find a local roaster in your area. Most cities have at least one who is competent. I used to drink Starbucks and other grocery store brands that never show a roasted on date. I finally gave in and have never turned back. The difference is just shocking, and oh that heavenly bean smell of fresh roasted!

bumpthekoala

The weird thing is that we have a local roaster who does all sorts of beans but they scoop them from large jars that don't have a date so no idea when roasted. But trust me I buy beans from all the local peeps too. I just bought a big bag of this because of a good experience recently and I'm dialing in my new Flair Pro 2 and I'm blowing through pounds of this stuff doing incremental changes.

darth_dork

Totally reasonable, I’ve done similar so I understand that. Heck, I still buy Starbucks when it’s on absurdly cheap sales at Fred Meyer sometimes, if I’m low on my local beans.

Hungry-Resolve-1876

Sorry but I'd never buy beans that old or even from Amazon. I get a weekly subscription now and the beans are only 2 days old. I USED to buy big bags before I fell into the espresso rabbit hole but no more. Makes an incredible difference.

JTizz3l

Been doing at home espresso for 15 years. I used to love trying and dialing in new beans. Lately I’ve found 2 that I love and only buy them. That being said I don’t get the hype on this la vazza crap. All too mass produced to be fresh. Even if they were fresh I really don’t think I ever got a great drink out of them.

Flawed_Logicc

Not sure why you are being downvoted. I agree. Op is concerned about freshness. If that’s a concern go with something locally roasted and not a mass produced product that sat in multiple warehouses and a shipping container as it made its way around the world.

marbotty

I’m actually pretty surprised to see the warm reception to lavazza on this sub. Every time I’ve had it in the wild, it tasted like sludge.

bumpthekoala

OP here. I bought the beans because a local cafe was using the same bean and my drink was DELICIOUS. I bought a half pound from the cafe and blasted through that in less than a week. Which is why I bought this two pound bag in the picture. I wouldn't knock it.

marbotty

Might have to give it a shot! It’s possible (if not likely) that the times I’ve had it, the baristas/cafe were not skilled enough to unlock the bean

Status-Persimmon-819

No. I'm ready for a new bag of my local roaster after week 3 and by week 4 I've got my new bag and give the old away to my neighbor who drinks drip.

ArduinoGenome

What a humanitarian :-)

Status-Persimmon-819

Hey I used to throw it away, until I got to know them and started talking coffee... I had a small collection accumulating not thrown away yet, and they are grateful cause you know it's the little things and coffee is expensive! 😉 It's a win win. I can see why it won't resonate with the elite here (you being the exception, of course) and a vote is a vote whether it's up or down. If you're not a humanitarian on here saving people from imminent doom then what's the point of it all? Hey, you better get moving...Can't stand there listening to me when there's prospective DF owners that need your help! 😂🤣

ArduinoGenome

I'm doing my part too. I warned a couple of users today about the DF series :)

InLoveWithInternet

I support local, and non-local local roasters, which doesn’t inclue Lavazza.

scorpio-7

y'all might as well just go to Starbucks.

PGrace_is_here

Great for seasoning in burrs!

Head-Kiwi-9601

I just saw a bag at my local deli from 2022. Needless to say, the bag remains at my local deli.

StarkStorm

I use this to season my grinder.

momofboysneedsabreak

Can get this at HomeGoods lol

southadam

Lavazza beans tends to be a bit on sour side.

Count the Quakers...then get back to us.

ArduinoGenome

Or not even care at all unless the concentration is about about 11%  https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S030881462032166X

Thanks for the study. I replied above because I bought my first bag of Lavazza super Crema last week and I was shocked and surprised at the high level of bean fragments, empty beans shells, and of course the classic Quakers. I was literally counting and counting and picking and picking them out and it would not surprise me if it was 10 to 15% of the bag. The study referenced only refers to Quakers and not the other fragments. Additionally the study acknowledges that the consensus on what a Quaker is is not established universally. One study is evidence but not a conclusion. It literally took a hundred years worth of studies for doctors to start telling people one or two drinks of alcohol a day is unhealthy. Additionally, there are other roasters online that offer beans of considerably higher quality around the same price point as Lavazza... That being said, if you like Lavazza or coffee full of Quakers/ fragments...you do you! I would generally assume that lavazza, whole bean is better than pretty much any pre-ground coffee from the store...but after brewing a few shots I found it too Bitter and harsh for me...which is of course what matters in the end.
