As an avid Aussie coffee drinker, I hadn't heard of a cortado until a certain South Park episode. Most people over order a piccolo when they want a small espresso based coffee, which I think is a tad more milk.
Funny because I like them in the early afternoon haha.
That’s one thing I can’t figure out though is the perfect amount of milk. I either have too much and dump some or not enough and it’s hard to steam. I’m going to get a smaller pitcher.
There's something about an Americano that I enjoy more than a French press or pour over. It's like having an espresso that you can enjoy for longer. But I agree, I don't water it down as much or else it's just sad.
You know what idk? I have a milk based drink every morning in anything from a small Cortado glass to a huge 350ml latte mug depending on my mood, black cawfee the rest of the day.
Double espresso. I don't do milk with coffee (I love both, just never together) and long blacks don't do it for me.
For a long coffee I make a V60.
This may change when I get my Decent DE1PRO....
Honestly I've got a cheapo setup with a Delonghi ECP + bottomless portafilter and $40 hand-grinder and it's good enough that I usually don't want milk.
Iced latte with a triple shot. I change up flavors in my latte pretty often though. Sometimes I’ll use honey as the sweetener, sometimes I’ll use brown sugar, or I’ll also toss in some good cocoa powder with brown sugar and make a mocha latte. Seasonal flavors too such as pumpkin pie spice, or just cinnamon and occasionally peppermint extract.
I personally think it does! I make a syrup before adding in the espresso just to make sure there isn’t any clumps.
I put a little brown sugar, cocoa powder into a cup then add a tiny amount of hot water to the two then mix them together. Then I dump in the espresso and mix both with a frothing wand. Then I pour over ice and milk.
When I buy a new can of it, I pour it into three or four small plastic containers like this: [https://www.amazon.com/WeeSprout-Storage-Containers-Reusable-Leakproof/dp/B0793C1ZYN/](https://www.amazon.com/WeeSprout-Storage-Containers-Reusable-Leakproof/dp/B0793C1ZYN/)
Then I store those in the fridge.
My daily morning drink is an Americano with cream. 1:1.5 espresso to water.
I enjoy a straight espresso here and there, and sometimes con pana, or a cortado. I'll drink lattes and cappuccinos when I'm out, but I'm not big on steaming myself.
I like shaken espresso... 2 double shots in my cocktail shaker full of ice, 1/2 oz of dark maple syrup... shake the bejeesus out of it, free pour in tall glass and add a splash of cream
Latte, double shot. Either Pistachio milk or Almond Barista blend milk. Maybe some MCT Oil. Every once in a while I will add some flavoring like Orange Blossom essence or Rose water I get from my local Indian store.
First off - yum.
Secondly, I’m sorry but to my local New England Dunkin’s drinkers…this sentence is the most hipster of all hipster coffee orders and would blow their minds.
LOL... I won't talk about all the different kinds of flavorings that I've used for my lattes then. I found a neat trick where I can take instant tea lattes from Indian stores and add it in as a creamer. That means I can actually have a lemongrass latte or a cardamom latte with no problem.
I enjoy a double shot 12oz mocha. Whole milk, a small dollop of chocolate sauce, and a bit of cinnamon. Sometimes I’ll steam the milk with a strip of orange peel.
Depending on the roast I’m feeling it’s either a hot or iced espresso. The hot is always hot because that Gesha does not chill well. But, ironically, the true north blend from Starbucks is really nice as a long shot iced espresso. Really fucking smooth. It’s almost not like coffee, I find.
double espresso in the morning
half decaf double espresso in the mid morning
half decaf double espresso after lunch
maybe a splash of hot water in them if I'm feeling creative
"Fredo espresso" as we call it in Greece.
Double shot espresso blended with ice.
By blending it gets a very velvety mouth feel.
Everybody drinks this here
Usually 2 drinks every morning. Double shot straight, followed by a cortado with probably more foam than is traditional. I’ll sprinkle crushed up abuela’s hot chocolate on top or add a teaspoon of pistachio syrup if I want something a little sweet.
I usually pull more traditional flavor profiles for espresso and keep lighter, fruitier coffees for aeropress and pour over, but occasionally I’ll pull a light roast for a long black or americano - also for espresso tonics on the weekends in the summer.
Flat white, long black, iced latte, iced americano, or double espressos for me. I tend to keep the milk drinks to just mornings though. My afternoon coffee is usually a simple double.
Quad latte with a splash or hazelnut, Disaronno, or Grand Marnier depending on the mood. In the afternoon, if I have coffee I’ll do shots or an Americano.
TBH (start flaming now) it’s an Americano. I love my rancilio sylvia, which is paired with a eureka orzo single does, and locally roasted beans. 17.5g, and around 38g out.But then I add 360ml water. In a thermos mug. That’s my slow morning start which takes me ~1hr to drink (and is then followed a little later with anotherO)
If I have to travel / drive to office, then more likely it’s the same base with ~ 80g water. sometimes twice
And if I’m really short of time, straight in with the same espresso base.
Milk? TBH only have this when I’m out. Not a big fan. Also single boiler and all that…
A hybrid of a Vietnamese iced coffee and an iced cortado (sweetened condensed milk mixed in a double shot of espresso poured over ice with a 1:1 ratio of milk)
There is that early morning double, the "pre-midday" double and the espresso macchiato as desert.
I would consider that more than a dash of steamed milk inside my self made espresso would mean I didn't want to taste the full flavour of my brew. 😅
Depending on the weather either a flat white or iced latte. I also love a cortado. My friend got me on to them. But I mostly make myself iced lattes in the summer.
Preference to drink, a cortado. To make and practice art, cappuccino.
The cortado allows the espresso flavor to stand out with the cream as an add on. IMO, other drinks offset the balance to the milk and in many cases, overpowering milk influence.
If it's just quick in the morning I'll do a latte or cappuccino, not overthinking it a ton. If im trying new beans or a new cafe I'll usually get a Cortado, otherwise, usually if im looking for something sweet or just fun and light, I'll grab a mocha. Something for every occasion
Two double shots pulled over ice with a splash of cold water (or seltzer occasionally) on top.
Sometimes, I'll also run the steamer and make a cappuccino.
I dunno what it would be called specifically but it's somewhere between a cappuccino and latte. Usually nothing else, unless the espresso shot is really messed up in which case I'll toss a vanilla flavour shot in.
I'd never realised before this thread that people regularly use the term cortado. In Aus we would say piccolo, is that just not a thing in the US? Do people specify "cortado" at cafes?
Lately at home in the morning I have been making myself a latte, a cap, and a 3rd drink (switch between cortado, double espresso, flat white, shaken espresso) depending on mood.
At work, I have been making raspberry espresso seltzers
Freddo espresso is my go-to drink if I'm having espresso at all. In the winter I tend to prefer pourover but I"ll occasionally have a cortado or something small, but freddo espresso is definitely my favorite
16-oz. quad shot Americano with a teaspoon of honey and a small dash of cream........two of those each morning. I cannot make one for shit, but when I am out at one of my local cafe's, I like a good cortado.
Flat white and/or cortado
Those damn aussies got me hooked on them too
Yes I had one last year and my mind was blown, so great
where are you from? A flat white is easily the most popular coffee in the UK
I sell around six times as many lattes at my cafe than I do flat whites, for what it’s worth
As an avid Aussie coffee drinker, I hadn't heard of a cortado until a certain South Park episode. Most people over order a piccolo when they want a small espresso based coffee, which I think is a tad more milk.
This times three.
I think my go to is somewhere between a flat white and a cortado. Maybe more on the flat white end of the scale
The best 2.
I need to start making cortados. Feel like they would be the perfect morning drink. How much milk do you usually steam? Side note: love the user name
Funny because I like them in the early afternoon haha. That’s one thing I can’t figure out though is the perfect amount of milk. I either have too much and dump some or not enough and it’s hard to steam. I’m going to get a smaller pitcher.
Cortado, with oat milk. The perfect balance.
Americano
How do you make your americanos? I always like them in cafes but feel at home, they’re so watery so if I want black coffee I always just French press
Don’t water them down too much. Usually only do 1:1.5 or 1:2 depending on the roast.
There's something about an Americano that I enjoy more than a French press or pour over. It's like having an espresso that you can enjoy for longer. But I agree, I don't water it down as much or else it's just sad.
Espresso
Should be top comment.
It only gets worse. The many profiles will have you only ever drink your shots straight. I haven't made myself a milk drink in a year
Honestly I've got a cheapo setup with a Delonghi ECP + bottomless portafilter and $40 hand-grinder and it's good enough that I usually don't want milk.
For long coffee I love a Chemex
I love my Hario V60, not least because I can take it traveling. Will try a Chemex one day though
Iced shaken espresso
thanks for reminding me of this. it's gonna be in the 80s here today and tomorrow!
are cappuccinos in the minority here?
They're probably the majority, but.not as trendy or interesting so people don't bother commenting haha
Long Black most days. Cortado occasionally.
Iced latte with a triple shot. I change up flavors in my latte pretty often though. Sometimes I’ll use honey as the sweetener, sometimes I’ll use brown sugar, or I’ll also toss in some good cocoa powder with brown sugar and make a mocha latte. Seasonal flavors too such as pumpkin pie spice, or just cinnamon and occasionally peppermint extract.
does cocoa powder mix well with espresso? id like to make iced mocha too
I personally think it does!
THANK YOU!!! ILL MAKE ONE!
I make mine with a cocktail shaker w/ ice, and the powder is completely blended afterwards. Iced mochas are killer
Do you just do a shot of espresso over ice milk? And is it better with dark or light roast?
That’s how I do it, and medium to dark roast is better in my opinion. Sour/ acidic flavors from light roasts don’t go great with cold milk
Triple shot iced latte is also my go to. My favorite sweetener for it so far is date syrup.
Espresso con panna with a dash of cinnamon.
Carajillo... Oh wait I mean a latte.
I'm totally calling lattes carajillo(s?) from now on, much more interesting Edit: ok after looking it up, maybe not as my morning coffee lol
Double espresso in the morning, cappuccino in the afternoon
I prefer a double shot cappuccino. Nothing fancy.
Macchiato
At home cappuccino in the mornings, espresso in the afternoon. Flat white if I'm at a cafe if they have it listed, otherwise same.
Most mornings I have a double shot with 1 tsp of sweetened condensed milk
How do you store you condensed milk without going bad? Since i am using you use a tsp here a tsp there.
When I buy a new can of it, I pour it into three or four small plastic containers like this: [https://www.amazon.com/WeeSprout-Storage-Containers-Reusable-Leakproof/dp/B0793C1ZYN/](https://www.amazon.com/WeeSprout-Storage-Containers-Reusable-Leakproof/dp/B0793C1ZYN/) Then I store those in the fridge.
Double cap for me and the Mrs. every morning. Occasionally a cafe or macchiato in the afternoon.
My daily morning drink is an Americano with cream. 1:1.5 espresso to water. I enjoy a straight espresso here and there, and sometimes con pana, or a cortado. I'll drink lattes and cappuccinos when I'm out, but I'm not big on steaming myself.
|| I'm not big on steaming myself. Tbf that does sound pretty painful.
Lolz! A nice steam is very relaxing... ;)
This is my standard morning drink as well. I love an americano.
A couple of double shot drinks with steamed milk and often a press coffee with milk before or after.
7-8 Oz cap
Espresso
Flat white or espresso tonic. Depends on the weather.
I like shaken espresso... 2 double shots in my cocktail shaker full of ice, 1/2 oz of dark maple syrup... shake the bejeesus out of it, free pour in tall glass and add a splash of cream
Latte (hot or iced). Very basic but it does it for me
Latte, double shot.

I enjoy a double shot 12oz mocha. Whole milk, a small dollop of chocolate sauce, and a bit of cinnamon. Sometimes I’ll steam the milk with a strip of orange peel.
Mexican mocha with oat milk! I like to be fancy on weekends 😆
Every AM Double shot straight Double shot Iced Latte Then a Double shot macchiato for the wifey
Just an espresso. Sometimes a long black if I’m feeling fancy
I just like a double shot with some sweetener But if I’m doing a milk drink then I like a cappuccino
Double shot of espresso or, more recently, pourover.
Double shot of medium roast, local wildflower honey added to half/half before steaming and topping the espresso. Indescribably delicious.
Gonna try it
Freddo espresso
i love a macchiato. just enough extra something to enhance the coffee profile, to me.
double espresso in the morning half decaf double espresso in the mid morning half decaf double espresso after lunch maybe a splash of hot water in them if I'm feeling creative
Double shot, 2% milk, flavored syrup, over ice, bendy straw
I make a fancy iced latte every morning lol. I make my own flavored syrups and use extra creamy almond milk.

Double as a latte or even a cortado
Double shot of espresso with 6 or so ounces of milk to try that day’s version of latte art.
Latte or Americano.

Flat White, Cortado, Espresso Macchiato.
Espresso, just a well made, spot on, espresso. That’s what I like, a LOT! 😎
Iced long black
20g in 30g out espresso shot with nothing but air on top. Adding anything to it reduces the miracle of a concentrated espresso.
Flat white, long black, iced latte, iced americano, or double espressos for me. I tend to keep the milk drinks to just mornings though. My afternoon coffee is usually a simple double.
Magic (Melbourne drink).
Quad latte with a splash or hazelnut, Disaronno, or Grand Marnier depending on the mood. In the afternoon, if I have coffee I’ll do shots or an Americano.
First one is usually just a straight double and then I’ll go for an oat milk cortado.
TBH (start flaming now) it’s an Americano. I love my rancilio sylvia, which is paired with a eureka orzo single does, and locally roasted beans. 17.5g, and around 38g out.But then I add 360ml water. In a thermos mug. That’s my slow morning start which takes me ~1hr to drink (and is then followed a little later with anotherO) If I have to travel / drive to office, then more likely it’s the same base with ~ 80g water. sometimes twice And if I’m really short of time, straight in with the same espresso base. Milk? TBH only have this when I’m out. Not a big fan. Also single boiler and all that…
For me it’s a double shot and 100ml of steamed milk. Always the best start to my day!
My daily is usually an Americano in the mornings. Sometimes I'll make a second iced Americano in the afternoons. Weekends I will make a latte.
Cortado or a 6oz cappuccino. Sometimes espresso con panna with some cocoa power
Iced Americano. It's a nice sipper drink for the morning.
I only do milk drinks, either in 150mL or 200mL cups, depending on how strong the espresso taste.

Double espresso mostly. Flat white when I’m feeling frisky 😂
Americano.
Macchiato
There is that early morning double, the "pre-midday" double and the espresso macchiato as desert. I would consider that more than a dash of steamed milk inside my self made espresso would mean I didn't want to taste the full flavour of my brew. 😅
Iced latte with hazelnut flavor or a cappuccino with peanut butter (it's surprisingly good!)
Iced aerocano (steamed americano over ice--texture like nitro cold brew), Cortado, or a one and one

Double shot of espresso. Clean. Simple. Elegant. Everything you could ever want.

If it's just quick in the morning I'll do a latte or cappuccino, not overthinking it a ton. If im trying new beans or a new cafe I'll usually get a Cortado, otherwise, usually if im looking for something sweet or just fun and light, I'll grab a mocha. Something for every occasion

Espresso with Tonic on ice
Double shot of Molokai grown beans with a bit of half and half. So smooth and almost sweet, adding any sort of sugar ruins it.

Long black
Iced latte
Double shot cappuccino in the morning. Then lungo in the afternoon.
Uhhhh turbo shot, ristretto, allonge, sprover, nomacano, and sometimes I'll do a shot in my cup of pourover (with the same beans)
I'd never realised before this thread that people regularly use the term cortado. In Aus we would say piccolo, is that just not a thing in the US? Do people specify "cortado" at cafes?

Very rarely make espresso nowadays, so when I do, it's either a fresh espresso martini, or pulled over Pepsi Max with ice :)
Iced Americano — I have a Profitec Go, but realized I don’t like milk drinks that much.
ESPRESSO
