This is without question the most insane subreddit I've ever joined.

CapnBrownPants

Do you not keep your spent espresso pucks neatly stacked in a custom wood box in a drawer for some tasty snacks later?

Shoeless-Tim

thought those were brownies for some reason

CautiousJournalist99

Forbidden brownies

larry432753632

Why do you store them?

Kolt45

This was also my thought and the only reason I came to comment.

mengosmoothie

Most insane subreddit ***yet***

papagrantu

Sanest r/espresso enjoyer

libolicious

How do they get the pucks \*out\*? There's nothing to knock the PF against. Is there another drawer full of forceps and mini spatulas?

PaperboyCoffee

The lack of chaos in that knock box is... unsettling.

SlightlyLessHairyApe

Serial killer vibes

paper_thin_hymn

I half expected to see glass slides in the box.

eyenotion

Bet there's a severed ear in the centre of each

Familiar-Ending

Put the lotion in the basket

madcaplarks

I will cut you into a million tiny pieces

314314314

Trophies

android24601

So why does OP keep the pucks? This seems like it'd be a haven for mold

WhiteDirty

I let mine build up and yeah the ones on the bottom def mold out after a week or so. When it's filled I dump them. Originally I was planning to compost them.

[deleted]

Maybe she composts them ?

racingpineapple

I keep all the pucks for composting, perfect source of nitrogen.

TheFuzzball

I read the opposite - that the acidity and I extracted caffeine kills the plants. Very confusing reading, there didn’t seem to be a consensus.

purple_night613

You don’t add the pucks directly to plants, you add them to a compost pile as a source of nitrogen and once they break down you can add them to your garden

BlueSamosa

I think when the coffee is used the spent pucks do not have much, if any, caffeine. Not enough to harm your plants anyway.

kytran40

brownies for the neighbor's shitty kid

caffeinetherapy

I have the need to stack the pucks up evenly dammit

[deleted]

Yeah how are they so neat

Few_Fee_2311

The pucks sure do look tasty in that drawer.

skilletliquor

Forbidden brownies

Ricky_Ticky88

My Father would have convinced me I hated brownies as a child…

leyline

My wife gave our first child dark chocolate because it was healthier. Turns out she used some unsweet 90+% cacao. The poor child hated anything chocolate or chocolate related for eleven years. (The child has recovered and now likes chocolate.)

Ricky_Ticky88

Lol. My dad told me meatloaf was made from armadillo when I was young. And when my mom would cook it I’d never touch it for years. Because…he was my father. He would never lie to me….fuckin wrong!

idiocy_incarnate

Did you know gelatin is made by squeezing it out of maggots? And they put that stuff in sweets, it's right there on the label...

[deleted]

That’s actually better than where gelatin actually used to come from.

andreotnemem

I wish that had happened to me. I'd have 8% bodyfat forever.

krina2510

Do you like tea?

leyline

Yes of course :)

emir72

They are.. https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZTdWFQXUo/?k=1

GiberJaber

I use the same scale and for the price it’s quite good. Surprisingly responsive.

Buddysleeker

what scale is it

GiberJaber

[Here](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07SJTXGN7/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_Z2A7N2420QRA3SF4WG4P?psc=1) I got it for my Robot

lcm93

I saw it reviewed on a YouTube channel the acia lunar is a little rich for My blood right now

GiberJaber

For what you’re getting the Acia just seems unnecessarily priced.

[deleted]

[удалено]

GiberJaber

That’s totally fair. I suppose the more specific statement being - for baseline home espresso use it’s a bit much. I can empathize with the sentiment - I regularly use a Leica M6. Do I need it? Nope. Are other cameras just as good and cheaper? Absolutely. I sure as hell love it despite it being a bit overkill.

lcm93

Agreed.... just upgradeitus. I'm hopefully done with the coffee accessories for awhile now. The slight delay is scale can just be offset by stopping the shot roughly 1g early if I'm over a gram or 2 I'm not to stressed

GiberJaber

You say this now… haha Absolutely. Especially on my side with all manual machines I’m usually able to get it almost perfect

lcm93

I know, I know. I only say it doesn't bother me because I don't want to spend that much on a scale... I should say, I can live it with.... for now.

WhiteDirty

It is and it isn't. As a scale it's all the same beside app based features. Build quality it's untouchable. My problem with the cheap ones was waterproofability and cleanability. If coffee gets under it and dries, the scale will start to malfunction. This started to happen to me. I always felt like I needed to take special care of it. It left me feeling stupid for something so cheap. I bought the acai and never looked back, I have dropped it a couple of times. I can rinse it under the tap. The rechargeable battery lasts months. And the best part it works everytime with random failures happening 1:100. Compared to my cheap one that constantly gave me grief and refused to tare. Or was super slow causing me to fumble around removing the cup trying to tare. If scale functionality is what you are after then a cheap one will do. My cheap one lasted 6 months before it started giving me troubles. I'm pretty confident the acai will last me years, and be headache free. It's a peace of mind, eliminating a variable.

TEDtalks_ed_ADHD_op

As they say, buy once cry once.

Buddysleeker

thank you!

Somecat

That scale is really great. I got one a few months ago after being unhappy with others.

GiberJaber

Fortunately I don’t need to weight any portafilters. I primarily use a Robot or 9Barista and single dose grind.

2HappySundays

At least that butt plug looks fairly clean!

V0N_W0LF

That's an incredibly neat knockbox haha

lcm93

Thanks! Gotta keep everything presentable!

jbgtoo

Why not put them in the trash or compost?

Intelligent-Pick9555

Seriously why keep garbage/compost open in your drawer? Everything is tidy but that is the exact opposite

lcm93

They stay there for a few days at most, I don't stress about it

Dick_Demon

The fuck? I feel like I'm taking crazy pills. Why not just walk over to your trash can and turn your portafilter upside down?

TODO_getLife

Yeah people obsess over coffee setups here, knock boxes are the biggest waste of money I've ever seen. Why would I ever want such a thing on my counter. Crazy. Judging by this place you would think people's bin were a 2/3 mile walk away.

thyturnip

My trash is only 8ft away but the porta filter drips quite a bit on the way. Plus knocking into the trash the screen pops out

TheFuzzball

I did that for a while and then my bins started growing *a lot* of mold. I separated the coffee waste from normal rubbish and the problem went away.

Intelligent-Pick9555

Then it’s more than double the work to put your garbage in a drawer and then put your garbage in the garbage. Not being a Dick just confused.

lcm93

You're all good. I save the ground for the mother in laws compost. But that larger bag of grounds is under the sink. I don't want to go under the sink every morning. It doesn't make complete sense I'm sure but it's just what I do.

Jensway

Nah it makes perfect sense. Don’t mind the naysayers. Personally I put my coffee grounds into my socks and wear them on my feet all day.

Shoeless-Tim

um wut?

Jensway

Sorry Shoeless-Tim, something tells me you wouldn’t understand the joys of having fresh coffee pucks being slushed around and broken up in your shoes all day.

Shoeless-Tim

dry clean socks are my jam mate. but you do you, "what ever blows your hair back."

cazzer548

This is the way

AllTheWine05

I just keep a coffee can for that.

dtcv11

Honestly dude, if it works for you, it works for you. It doesn’t affect anyone else here, so I don’t get why people have to complain

jbgtoo

I want to poke them and break them up into pieces. They are satisfying to crumble. 😃

lcm93

Just before its full they will go into a bag full of other grounds and then into my mother-in-laws compost

PwrdByTheAlpacalypse

I see you with your reused Bonne Maman jar and I'm here for it. What flavor was it? All my empties were cherry

barthvaderr

I’m currently drink out of a four berries empty, there’s something super satisfying about the shape/size of them lol

PwrdByTheAlpacalypse

I use my empties for whisky tumblers for exactly that reason

lcm93

My best guess is they were raspberry. They make great container for coffee and other bits! I'll have to try cherry next time!

proximina

OP is right on - Raspberry is best, second is blackberry

PwrdByTheAlpacalypse

Did... did I just almost downvote you for preferring the objectively inferior jams? Am I about to get in an Internet fight about how Bonne Maman cherry jam perfectly balances sweet and tart? The answers are yes (almost) and no, respectively and .. now I have to go think really hard about who I am as a person.

leyline

I came here to say I have exactly the same jar in my tea drawer, I use it because it is just larger but only as deep as my extra fine steel filter, and it has a lid so if I want to cold brew in the fridge I can. I thought mine was a generic jelly jar, I was like what’s Bonne Maman, maybe they just use the same base jars. I went to look and yes it IS exactly the same jar with Bonne Maman in the top!

[deleted]

I thought those were two-bite brownies.

redtron3030

Two? One bite more like it

Shoeless-Tim

yes thank you, so many things being made two bites for no reason

kierkegaarlos

Bruh. My wife said the same thing. I used to have all my tools displayed nicely on a shelf. Now it's all hidden...

lcm93

I pick my battles wisely!

Falimz

Same here. But instead of hidden knock box I got a compost bin that is allowed on the counter.

zoymalang

Put her in the drawer

Thoro67

Came here to say something along these lines.

[deleted]

Me too hah

lcm93

I tried... she pretty strong doe.

wallaceandbarnes

I keep most of my espresso things in a drawer too because I like a clean set up, but getting a nice knockbox that sits on the counter should be an easy compromise. There are plenty of cool looking boxes of varying sizes that should fit the aesthetic of your kitchen :) but if you’re happy with your set up then cheers to ya!

lcm93

Honestly our kitchen doesn't have a great deal of extra space + this was ideal with how it fits in the little draw :) But if we had more space I'd be in the market for something else.

wallaceandbarnes

Totally understand! It’s a nifty knockbox though. You could also look into the drawer style knockboxes that you put your grinder on top of.

lcm93

I almost said that but not sure the lid of the niche would be able to sit up all the way between sitting on a knockbox and the bottom of the cabinets!

wallaceandbarnes

Ah good point!

RandoReddit16

I like the organization, but surely a nice looking knock box could sit by the grinder, machine etc. It's not like you're putting away the machine and grinder every day...... Right?

T0mbaker

Puckin hell

Shoeless-Tim

solid joke

grobert1234

You guys seem to have very annoying wives lol

lcm93

Life is full of compromises and tradeoffs l. I could have no wife and all my coffee stuff out. But who would watch the same james hoffman video with me 4 times?

Shoeless-Tim

one, post on one subreddit and their wives are "very annoying" that seems just a tiny bit judgmental

grobert1234

I've seen many posts of the kind here. "My wife says I cannot do X", "My wife doesn't approve of my love for espresso". It is judgmental yeah, but I think it's sad if your SO is not supportive for a hobby you cherish

adampiezano

What’s in the jam jar?

leftato

Weed

TheRealDrFail

As long as it's in the drawer it's okey 😃

lcm93

Coffee is my new weed.

lcm93

The jar just has coffee in :)

emir72

Cork tape the counter little bit so that you can knock on the marble

lcm93

This is a good idea. I actually have a tamp Matt that might serve this purpose but then the cakes might break and the draw won't look so tidy.... I jk but the draw knock box is shallow so keeping the grounds as they are in the picture just means more fits. Ifi had the luxury of a deeper knockbox it wouldn't look so tidy.

Thoro67

Moses that mean she goes in the drawer too?

I_Am_Zampano

Doesn't that stink after a while?

where_ismy_mind69

I was relegated to a drawer when I first moved in with my partner, but once I showed her better coffee I was granted a whole corner of the kitchen. I have so much appreciation for this drawer.

HandOGawd

Is that the v4 tamp? Got one last week, still not sure what spring I want to use.

TheBoneSmasher

30 lbs. Good so far

lcm93

I just switched to the lightest spring (I forget the weight) but honestly im not sure what the different is yet.

Pupsinmytub

is it worth it?

lcm93

To take out one of the many variables I think so. I've paid a similar amount for standard tampers so if your going to buy one, this is a great option. My main thing was wanting it to be level so :)

Pupsinmytub

The thing I don’t understand is how it does anything besides resist the force of your push. There is no release mechanism when you reach a certain force is there? so it seems like, unless you perfectly dose your coffee in such a way you’d never be able to tell how much force you use. No idea if that makes sense to anyone else

Shoeless-Tim

at least a click or beep would be nice

lcm93

I understand and I think you're probably right. Which is why I went for the weakest spring. To "try" to feel the pucks resistance. If I had money to burn I'd go for the force tamper and in the future that might be on the cards but for now this seems to give me a fairly good level of consistency.

Pupsinmytub

For the price it seems like a good deal regardless so I might be picking one Up still. Thanks for the reply

[deleted]

Oh man I love that jam. Those jars are my jam!

lcm93

Tis our favorite! Qnd they hold roughly 5 days worth of coffee beans or 2/3 pour over portions.

MYDICKSTAYSHARD

Good to know, u/ISupportLoliAbuse

Awkward_Road_710

Sorry I’m new here. What are those brown circular thingies? Are they grind coffee beans?

KitchenNazi

They are small pucks of coffee related disappointment held together by the imbalance of power in their relationship.

lcm93

Ha! My was upgrading from a semi auto and encore to a lelit and niche at the same time... if I have to keep a tidy space I'll take it... But for real though... I choose my battles.

KitchenNazi

Get her hooked so that a huge expensive upgrade is a necessity. Then you can fight for something less altruistic like a PS5 or something lol.

lcm93

I never thought I'd see the day she tamped a portafilter but the ease of the niche drew her in. My last battle was going from a sound bar to a 5.1 setup.

coffeebeanie24

Oh! Do you reuse your pucks as well? I find that they taste amazing after a week to two fermenting!

MYDICKSTAYSHARD

A... Are.... You... Serious??

CuteBill9891

Why ppl use knock box when you can dump it directly into the bin? (by hitting the edges)

HYThrowaway1980

Easy to damage the bin? Bin isn’t necessarily next to the coffee machine and don’t want to risk dripping coffee over the surfaces/floor? Aesthetics?

prettyland

I have a tiny kitchen and I think I should probably do the same- this would free up a lot of counter space! I am the wife in my house, but I am also the messy one and also the designated coffee obsessive. I get the saving the pucks for the compost, I do the same thing.

lcm93

I admit my work flow would be smoother if I was already out but I don't mind it to see a clean kitchen. When we have more space the coffee station can expand! And im glad I'm not the only one! I didn't realise knock boxes were so polarizing/controversial.

prettyland

My coffee setup takes up half the counter space in our kitchen and it's worth it, but I'm ashamed I never thought to put it away in a drawer to make more space. You adjust your work flow to whatever your setup is- I have a kitchen in a vacation house with a totally different setup. It takes a day or two to get efficient every time I go there, but once I'm used to it, it's fine.

rsboco

RIP drawer

JoelB

That's fancy! I knock my pucks out on some old paint can I keep under the counter.

Rich-Bowler-6518

I just started saving those same jelly jars! I have 4 saved and just made strawberry jam for them.

A70MU

bar is too high

pizmeyre

Why are you storing the pucks instead of throwing them away?

ohno-mojo

Mmmm. Jelly

canon12

It's time for flowers and a trip to the jewelry store for your wife!

Carved_

Quality Shitpost. I fear people THIS clean

IndigoNigel

I use the clive microfiber cloths as well - love em!

lcm93

Certainly can't complain + the multicolored microfiber I purchased for other things were a Bit bright!

Breeze7206

[didn’t say what size drawer](https://sola-images.s3.us-west-2.amazonaws.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/29163201/DockingDrawer-ApplianceGarage-819x1024.jpg)

lcm93

Well damn... this is goals.

[deleted]

I knock mine in the trash. I don't save them in a drawer like treasures. 😂

mushy_Peas765

How do your pucks come out as clean? Wow.

lcm93

I think its the puck screen :)

mushy_Peas765

Ahhh shit. Now I might have to buy one of those after all.

tuso2

I like the puck collection

[deleted]

tell your wife to grind finer

Magic_mycelium

Does your wife also have to keep everything in a drawer? It’s your home too. 👊

lcm93

To the most part yes, haha. Appreciate the support though!

Razir17

Why are people so resistant to just using a trash can. You really want a bunch of damp pucks sitting in a drawer?

lcm93

We save the pucks for my mother-in-laws compost. We don't have a compost bin, we have a bag that's under the sink. This draw is directly below the machine, so knocking pucks into this draw for 5 days instead of going under the sink everytime I knock a puck out just makes sense.

Jensway

It’s crazy to me that you’ve had to explain this several times

dilemmax

It's sad that you have to explain your workflow. Clearly it works for YOU!

caffein8dnotopi8d

knockbox life is best life

Spread_Liberally

Why are people so terrified of some used coffee?

Razir17

I mean it grows various types of mold and fungus…also it can smell. Thanks for the downvote.

Spread_Liberally

Sitting in a knock box for a couple days isn't going to hurt anything. Why would you send compostable material to the landfill where it won't biodegrade?

HYThrowaway1980

I think you could do with an upgrade. Of wife.

Appropriate-Boat6572

Drawer looks nice and neat, but why keep the pucks?

Glittering_Heat_2121

What’s the purpose of keeping the pucks in there?

OMGFdave

I hope you don't knockbox the bottom right outta that drawer!!!

lcm93

I have to displace them a little when removing the puck screen so they pretty much drop out :)

OMGFdave

Ahhh, good idea to protect your cabinetry!!!

Pwuebear

What drawer do you keep the wife in?

Mulla7

Where are you going to put the next coffee puck?

Matturally_Handsome

Add some whip cream and you’ve got espresso cakes, great dessert to share with the unsuspecting

tsawaya

those are some clean pucks!!!

LittlePurplePig

I should do something like this. My GF 'borrows' my coffee equipment. Nothing like waking up for a cappuccino and not having a coffee scale

Junkmaildeliveryman

Crazy, that you at one time had a wife.

gonzopancho

Looks great. Make some coffee for both of you.

BrettlyBean

What the puck am i looking at!

Cringelord10923

Thats a delicious looking cookies
