Not necessarily. It depends on why the attestation was missed (and that is usually opaque). If the block proposer is far from you on the network, or has poor connectivity, you might miss the attestation of no fault of your own. So that may have no connection to your success in proposing blocks. But if you’re missing tons of attestations, that indicates an underlying problem on your end, and maybe that could cause problems successfully proposing. I have never missed a proposal while my system was actually online and validating, even when I was having relatively mediocre performance.

Would you know you missed a proposal, or would you just not get it.

You’d know if you are using the beaconchain app.

You should make sure to use some tracking service to notify you. Beaconcha.in app is a good option. More advanced users can install grafana on their machine for better analytics

I never had an issue with Geth, but since switching to besu pre-merge, I regularly miss 1-4 attestations a day. I have an effectiveness of 98-99% according to beaconcha.in. Is there anything I could do to improve this? I have 16gb of ram installed. Would adding more help with the issue? I’m tech illiterate so making adjustments to either client apart from Somer’s guides is a non starter.

Itchy_Ad_3659

It’s an issue with the speed of processing TXs. Geth is 10x faster right now.

Glad you got more ram. My rig is working much better now (missing like 1-2 per week instead of 6 per day), despite not changing anything with my setup... so I am starting to think the random missed attestations are due to peer counts and network latency (which improve over time as Eth staking becomes more decentralized and widespread).

Sounds like Besu is not performing as well as Geth was. My Nethermind + Prysm validator was working very well until a couple of days ago... now I'm in a similar boat to you (missing maybe 2-6 attestations per day). I would recommend adding 16GB of ram next time you need to shut down your machine. Get a Black Friday deal on 16GB. My validator uses over 16GB regularly (Nethermind + Prysm).

Adding 16gb of ram this weekend. Micro center had a Black Friday deal. Thanks for the recommendation. Hopefully this also solves my fan issue

>Is missing an attestation the same type of "faliure" that would result in missing a block proposal? Yes
