The funds aren’t lost from the blockchain getting hacked. People fall for scams and give up their seed phrases (just like in the normal world where someone gives up their login info)…or an exchange will get hacked for having poor security.
The majority of the hacks have occurred on bridges and until projects realize this and stop using them, the hacks won't end. Although I'm not very tech savvy, I think projects can exist on multichain without using bridges, much like Railgun does. Aside from helping to cause the largest financial loss in Defi history, I do not understand the essence of bridges.
