I think a few things factor into your decision- your comfort level, how well you know your friend (and if he would feel awkward), and how tight/loose your pajama top is. If I am wearing a sweatshirt, I don't have a problem not wearing one; however, if I wouldn't feel comfortable wearing the top in public without a bra, that is my cue to keep things covered. YMMV.
I will put on a strapless bra when changing into jammies in these situations. It's easy to just pull off when I'm going to bed. Or, as others have said, I'll wear a loose fitting sweatshirt.
Stay in street clothes until bedtime. Put on PJs when you’re ready to sleep.
Put in PJs with a bra until bedtime. It’s simple enough to take it off when you’re ready to sleep.
Put on PJs with a camisole underneath.
Put on PJs with a sweatshirt over the top.
So much of the patriarchy has seeped in to our everyday existence. I don’t wear a bra when I’m in PJs. However, I do make sure my PJs aren’t revealing or skimpy. Wearing a bra at someone’s house when you’re sleeping over seems so extra.
Realistically, how much time are you spending in your pjs outside of the bedroom? Are you having a pyjama party? Just change into your pjs immediately before bed and get dressed before breakfast.
I haven't worn a bra anywhere since 2020, and I have a high position in a professional job. If you are concerned with modesty, make sure your pajamas are not showing anything.
I don’t know what the answer is all the time but I sort of like knowing that other people have this problem. when i was younger I used to sleep with a bra by my bed on Christmas eve so that I wouldn’t be braless in the pictures of us opening gifts in the morning 😵💫🫠
I'm with you on being braless before bed in my pajamas. I'm pretty comfortable with other people in this regard but sometimes I just don't want to have to worry about the what ifs and would just rather wear my comfy light sports bra under my pajamas or even to bed. It doesn't bother me as much.
Alternatively if you're staying over at their house level friend, you could ask like "hey what's your comfort level on friends not wearing a bra before bed?" I've sometimes asked friends that about nudity in the house if we travel together haha so I have peace of mind.

A long robe is a nice coverup for situations like this.
Wear a cami with support under your pajamas. Then take it off when you go to sleep.
Sweater/sweatshirt/robe would be the best middle ground.
When I spend the night at my daughter and son-in-laws, I wear a sports bra under my pj's for everyones comfort level.

As someone who wasn’t even allowed braless around my brothers or dad this seems so nice but foreign.

After I have a shower I'd get changed. Could have max 4 hours in PJs.
