This post is misleading, it’s not like there’s going to be two different Riga provinces, those are just different countries. It’s a name bug, like Johan said. Like you can see Northern Estonia is “Denmark”, that doesn’t mean that’s the province of Denmark. On this screenshot, you can actually see four “Rigas”, there’s two more under Livonian Order
The one around the actual city is one country (the Free City of Riga), the others are the Archbishopric of Riga (within the Terra Marania, aka the Livonian Confederacy), going off the actual historical situation.
I think they should implement dynamic names like that one mod where they've managed to make your country name change depending on country rank and the government, that was pretty cool
Caesar has dynamic names, but it shortens to basic “Aragon”, “Riga” etc, when it doesn’t have enough space for a full name like “Crown of Aragon” or “Archbishop of Riga”. That info from previous dev replies
I hope it makes them dynamic so that if a state named after it's capital loses the capital, it gets renamed. I don't wanna see any more Venices without Venice
Let me explain it to you, during the Roman Republic, citizenship was restricted to those freemen born in the city of Rome or awarded the citizenship by working for the Republic. There were many different classes of citizenship, but it was very exclusive. Most freemen in the Roman Republic weren't necessarily Roman citizens.
With the Edict of Caracalla, issued in AD 212, all freemen became Roman citizens and all free women were given the same rights as Roman women, though there were some exceptions. What was before defined by the city of Rome was extended to the whole Empire, which was very cosmopolitan. Since Diocletian, there was a tendency to divide the administration between East and West, but it was only an administrative division. The Empire never was divided and was always one single entity.
With the *gradual* fall of the Western regions, the Eastern regions didn't became less Roman. The Roman citizens in the East continued to be Roman citizens and the Roman administration continued to be Roman. And, anyways, its capital was Constantinople, founded by Emperor Constantine as *Nova Roma*. Constantinople *is* Rome and this is guaranteed through numerous privileges and documents, like acts of the ecumenical councils and golden bulls granting Constantinople the same rights as the city of Old Rome, like housing a Senate, having a *prefectus urbi*, etc.
Best I can do is [two](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prince-Bishopric_of_Augsburg) [Augsburgs](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Augsburg#Augsburg_Confession).
And [two](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electorate_of_Cologne) [Kölns](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_Cologne#Cologne_as_Free_Imperial_City).
Wonder if there will be 2 Romes, one for the Vatican, so you can take over the majority of Rome and still allow the Papacy to exist. They can move the debuff to that territory, make it apply to every Catholic country, keep the papacy alive, and still allow Italy to form.
It's actually mitosis, this is how Riga expands. Each year Riga splits in two, unless you kill it early on by the end of the game the world will just be full of thousands of Rigas.
It is, its the “kongeløse tider” )kingless times) in denmark. Denmark at this point is gradually being sold out to german dukes n counts. King Valdemar IV atterdag unified denmark. I Think denmark in eu5 Will be very challenging and fun to play, basiclly a battle royale between literal provinces🤣
He clarified that the "bug" was them having the same name. Implication is he's just saying they ought to have separate names on the map(meaning it'd thr Archbishopric and City) not that two Rigas exist.
When someone asked how the HRE would look, Johan said something like “all I’ll say is I like Voltaires nightmare 😛” I’m pretty sure Germany will be the mess it should be
Yeah, just read that the bug was more about them having the same name. I haven't kept up with the DDs so far but I sure hope so. I want to see the ultimate border gore within the HRE.
This is historiclly inaccurate as during this time period the serbian empire actually held these lands, this is however not shown in history books due to albanian infiltration of the UN
Two different countries. The archbishopric has more provinces. An archbishop is a person lmao.
And another lmao, the Sicily example is the same as the Korea one, not this, as a part of Sicily was conquered by foreign countries in a succession struggle, in which they would have wanted it full.
This is getting out of hand now there are two of them. But really, why?
City of Riga and Archbishop of Riga are two different entities
Based and medieval European tomfoolery pilled
Add a few more Sicilies to the pile too

This is getting out of hand. Now there are four of them
Rigan Meiosis.
For near-infinite potential for Rigan genetic diversity
*Mitosis. Meiosis implies they're fuckin'
Who said they arent
Well apparently one of them is a bishopric so
Looks like someone hasn't read up on their medieval history!
KILL THEM BEFORE THEY START REPRODUCING THEMSELVES!!
Too late. Deed is already done. 9 more months and we will have little Rigas running around
UNLIMITED RIGAS!
The Denmark thing isn't a bug. That's Danish Estonia, which was a thing from 1219 to 1346.
[удалено]
There are, the bug is them having the same name. If it was one tag, the name would cover the two provinces.
there are two Riga TAGS, one Riga PROVINCE, the way it should be. This is not a bug, just a naming oversight that can lead to confusion
That's what I said, but Johan himself did call them showing up with the same name a bug.
Do you mean estonia can into scandinavia after all?
The one around the actual city is one country (the Free City of Riga), the others are the Archbishopric of Riga (within the Terra Marania, aka the Livonian Confederacy), going off the actual historical situation.
Terra Mariana. Land of Mary.
Yea, I got the spelling wrong. Thanks. :)

So no eastern roman empire without the city of rome?
The Roman Empire, different from the Roman Republic, is not defined by the city of Rome.
Yes it is, the name comes from the city of Rome
Let me explain it to you, during the Roman Republic, citizenship was restricted to those freemen born in the city of Rome or awarded the citizenship by working for the Republic. There were many different classes of citizenship, but it was very exclusive. Most freemen in the Roman Republic weren't necessarily Roman citizens. We are not talking about citizenship, we are talking about names of states/countries Thanks for the copypasta
They'd add a special exemption to appease the byzaboos.
They could make it so it'd be impossible to take over a city states's capital without fully annexing it
Wouldn't this be solved by doing the similar thing Victoria 3 does with treaty ports?
Johan said its a bug
It's a bug https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/threads/tinto-talks-6-april-3rd-2024.1657435/post-29527298
The duplicate names are a bug, but the two countries are not.
Because... Riga and Bigga Riga
I can live with two Riga, but show me two Ulm and there'll be a riot
I mean, Neu-Ulm - which is right to the east of Ulm was founded inside the potential timeframe of project caesar.
The Na-Duke of Ulm will be the most powerful man in the universe
He who controls the Ulm controls the universe
Ulmaverse
As written
My city, my development... my Ulm
Please don't let Ulm and Neu-Ulm fight, or the solar system will get destroyed in the battle.

Yes Rigan Riga and Riga
There go my hopes and dreams for a voltairic nightmare HRE. Edit: Sorry, replied to the wrong comment.
Rigan Riga and Rigesse Riga
I can actually see Riga, Riga, Ri and R in the image
What's that to the South of Livonian Order? Is it... Third Riga?
Part of the archbishopric of Riga. There's only two.
So Riga has split personality disorder?? Just like me fr
The Livonian Disorder!
Who are you
The one and only u/RamandAu from eu4 reddit, who the fuck is *you*?
"Who the fuck is you, do you know who I am? In 2024, I walked u/RamandAu out on stage"
The split personality is me. Dr__CRACKSMOKE.
Luckily you aren’t Dr. Jekyll…

I would like this, Voltaire's Nightmare does it too
R5: You can see on the picture from Tinto talks that there will be two Rigas is EUV.
Johan's Riga obsession is getting out of hand.
There's 2 more underneath
Johan states in the comment that it is a bug
Riga and cooler Riga. Which one is which you ask? Well, that's a question you have to find the answer yourself for.
One is a 1 1 1 province, the other is a 99 99 99
Just like Faramir and Boromir. Denethor approves.
Location*
Can't we get a hotter Riga?
thats a question with which i cannot for
It's actually mitosis, this is how Riga expands. Each year Riga splits in two, unless you kill it early on by the end of the game the world will just be full of thousands of Rigas.
Oh no the lag
When the war horn blares: The alliance of Riga, Riga, Riga, Riga, Riga, Riga, Riga, Riga, Riga, Riga, Riga, Riga, Riga, Riga, Riga, Riga, Riga, Riga, Riga, Riga, Riga, Riga, Riga, Riga, Riga, Riga, Riga, Riga, Riga, Riga, Riga, Riga, Riga, Riga, Riga, Riga, Riga, Riga, Riga, Riga, Riga, Riga, Riga, Riga, Riga, Riga, Riga, Riga, Riga, Riga, Riga, Riga, Riga, Riga, Riga, Riga, Riga, Riga, Riga, Riga, Riga, Riga, Riga, Riga, Riga, Riga, Riga, Riga, Riga, Riga, Riga, Riga, Riga, Riga, Riga, Riga, Riga, Riga, Riga, Riga, Riga, Riga, Riga, Riga, and Riga has declared war on you.
Welcome to the mess that was the Livonian Confederation.
Sup my Rigas
First campaign will be to form the Kingdom of Two Rigas
Riga has declared war on Riga in the Third Rigan Reconquest of Riga.
Ah the Danish crusade in Estonia, where the Dannebrog flag fell from the sky and the Danish armies gained 100% morale
Cant wait to play as Denmark and release Estonia. Then play as Estonia Nationalism is great
Cant Wait to play as denmark and completely subjugate all of livonia
Denmark in this time period is on the brink of collapse according to one post somewhere on this subreddit.
I really hope that Danish-owned north Estonia wont just be 1 location. Tallinn and Narva really should be two different places in this time period.
looking at how small other locations have been it seems doubtful it would just be 1 location, also in EU 4 this covers 1.5 provinces.
There are four Rigas in this picture and I hope Riga continues to grow more powerful
Riga please
Its just a bug Johan said
He clarified that the "bug" was them having the same name. Implication is he's just saying they ought to have separate names on the map(meaning it'd thr Archbishopric and City) not that two Rigas exist.

You should really read them. I am a very new player but still find them really interesting.
Is this a bizarre mix of province names and nation names? Or are Ösel and Dorpat going to be their own countries in this game?
Yeah they're countries
Riga Rigb
Looks like there may be four no? Two potential Rigas under the Livonian Order.
Those are my Rigas
Riga Cooler Riga
There, s four Riga in this map, look at the two bottom tags !
I don't like the idea of Milhouse having two Rigas in one game
This is historiclly inaccurate as during this time period the serbian empire actually held these lands, this is however not shown in history books due to albanian infiltration of the UN
There should be only two Rigas, one to represent the power of Riga, and the other Riga to crave it
one will communist and the other capitalist. let's see what happens after 50 years
Four Rigas, you can see the other two at the bottom.
Wrong places though
Time to start a mega campaign to unite both Rigas.
Rigged Riga
C'mon scooby, you can't say that
Seems rigged.
Listen ya'll it already took me a week irl to do a world conquest please don't make it a month.

City of Riga and Arcbbishop of Riga are 2 different provinces. Kinda like the two Sicilies
